Valid points, however, I just got my A7IV and I have to say it is absolutely fantastic. I had the A7III, then the Panasonic S1, and now back to Sony with the A7IV and I have to say, not disappointed whatsoever. Videos look incredible with that 4:2:2 10Bit look, 33MP sensor take such good photos, and low light performance blows the Canon R6 straight out of the water. If I had one "complaint" it would be that it doesn't have a 30fps option in XAVC HS mode (h.265), only 24fps and 60fps FOR NOW (Easily fixable through software updates). Everything else is literally just nitpicking.

I recently upgraded to the a7iv as a b-cam to my Sony a7siii. Honestly, the biggest change has to be the dynamic range of the sensor and color matching it's 10-bit footage is a huge benefit to using the camera.

  • @frankfeng2701

Good for: those needing a second Sony Alpha body, those upgrading for video and/or hybrid shooting.
Not so good for: 4K video at 60p, sports and wildlife, silent shooting, those upgrading solely for photography.
Advantages: new touch menu, redesigned mode dial, ease of customization, improved color science, class-leading autofocus, 10bit 4:2:2 color depth in most recording modes, convenient features, lens selection.
Disadvantages: super 35 crop under 4K60p, noticeable softer 1080p than 4K, 10fps compressed RAW and 6fps uncompressed RAW in full frame or super 35, small buffer with SD card, rolling shutter in full frame, serious banding using electronic shutter, mediocre IBIS, mediocre LCD

  • @mordbain4671

      @RauriBarron  2 роки тому

Yeah! I actually mention in my video on “why I’m not buying the A7iv” that the 1.5 crop is actually not a concern to me.. but a benefit! When I do broll, the crop helps close in and get nicer more detailed broll shots which I like at 60p

I was shooting on a Nikon D7500 and I really liked it, but it had some serious drawbacks, especially in video. I was in the market for a new system and chose Sony for the fantastic 3rd party lens support. I got the A7iv and it's like a fighter jet compared to what I was using. My work then bought me an A7iii so now I can compare the two side by side. In my hands, I mush prefer the feeling and the features of the iv over the iii. Both are fantastic and miles beyond what used before. For the iv, I wanted a hybrid, all-in-one, camera and I got exactly that. It's more than what I need for my work, as my job requires photography, and everything I want when I just want to enjoy myself. But, valid points.

Any complaints about crop are so easily fixed with a wider lens.
The complaints on this review are a bit nit picky. If you want an awesome hybrid camera, you’re not doing crazy camera movements for run-and-hun action shots that will cause rolling shutter, and you just want solid photos and clean video up to 60fps, get this if you have the means. It will allow you to do both video and photography and get very very nice results.
I just bought the A7iv and it’s an amazing camera and any cons will not outweigh the pros.

I don’t think I realised prior to this that the a7 series is the entry level ff in Sonys line up!?! Clearly very well specced but that price point would seem like a barrier - £1k price difference between iii and iv here in the UK - and that would have me asking serious questions about the benefits. This video in conjunction with your others offers some well balanced opinion, very helpful mate 👍🏻

    • @RauriBarron

Thanks mate. Yeah I’m done with the A7iv focussed content for now, not much else to say. Sony did say this is really hybrid focussed, whereas the A7c is their “entry level mirrorless”, but to me it’s lacking and costly, single SD slot and I’m not a fan of the body design. But still a good camera… hope they upgrade it 2022 though. Thanks mate!

Best 4K footage up to 30fps. Sharper than a7siii even in 60fps. Great photo camera for most people. 33mpx. (Perfect for most things except landscape) this is the camera you take on holidays or to capture life as you go. Amazing low light footage in video. Very low noise. (Fine noise- less blocky than a7siii. Yet it takes amazing photos. Obviously lacks the high frame rates and robust all day shooting. It’s great. I’ve had the FX3. Great robust camera but not as versatile.

For video the S5 seems like a lot better option, way better video features, and among best IBIS, autofocus is pretty much from the 1980s on the S5 so you have to dial it in and tell it what to do or it wont do it at all, Sony is just click button and leave it, it does it all for you.
Really sucks that we have to make compromises, the rolling shutter on the Canon R6 is just atrocious 32ms, horrid.

You Are totally right. If the S5 would have an autofocus like a7iv then canon and Sony would be immediately destroyed in Video. Lumix delivers the best Video cams obviously especially for extreme low price but you should know how to manual Focus. Otherwise you won't be really happy. I Switched from a7siii to gh6 was stunned how many Features I have for 2100€. Honestly, it gives me much better and cleaner results in almost every scenery. If they give pdaf or Tof autofocus in a gh6 and rise price by 500€ then We would have it: the dream Camera We All are waiting for!

I'm primarily a wildlife and nature shooter. Birds in Flight are not a big part of my photography so I'm not really looking for that as a go/no-go point. Just wondering if anyone is using this camera for wildlife. How well does it pair with the 200-600mm? I'm coming from Nikon (D500) and a host of Nikon full frame lenses that I would have to sell to get this one. The 3 lenses that would be must have: 200-600, 90mm macro, 24-70 (I hear sigma is better than Sony for this particular lens). Anyone use it or wildlife/nature/outdoor photography?

Most head to head comparisons show the A7iv has better rolling shutter (it's not great though), and the R6 is more prone to over heating (important if you intend to do lots of 4k), they're both great for video but just depends what system you want to invest in. The A7iv has some amazing new features, the real time tracking / AF and how sharp the 1080p is (check out some videos...the 1080p seems sharper than 1080p!)

Can I please get your opinion on something? I've seen so many people rave about how amazing the Sony G master 24mm wide angle lens is, but I don't recall seeing anyone talk about the G master 35mm. And I have a feeling a 35mm is going to work better for my needs. I just got my A7IV and want to get a really good lens, but it's going to be my only really good lens for the time being so I want to make sure it's going to be versatile enough for what I need. I get occasional paid gigs doing birthday parties, family photos, etc. but I don't go searching for jobs so it's pretty rare. My main need is to start filming music videos for my own music.
Can I get away with using the 24mm to do all my performance shots and b roll for rap music videos? Or am I right that a 35mm would do way better? And have you heard anything on the 35mm G master? It's just as expensive as the 24mm, so I'm hoping it is just as good.

Hi mate. Both great, really depends on your use and situation, do you already have Sony or canon glass? The Sony has more MP so more ability to crop or shoot in APS-c mode, the Sony body is more customisable as well. Canons display is slightly better (but that’s not a deal breaker). Another thing, I believe the Sony has better performance in regards to over heating. Both have great AF. So it’s really dependant on if you’re already invested in one of the systems, which one are you most attracted to? Go to a store pick them up and feel for yourself 😊

I now have the A7IV, not as sexy, my wife says that the camera looks like something her dad had in the 90s... not as comfortable for my hands. At the end of the day, they are both very capable camera, I just feel you are more limited with the canon on so many aspect (video, lenses, cropping\mp). I don't care about the 60fps crop, so many ways around it, for the grip I bought a cage (smallrig) helps a lot!
