🎉Happy Birthday Terry🎉!
The FX3 is a badass camera but my A7iv does everything I could possibly ask for. But I agree with you 💯. Why keep an expensive camera around and risk damage to it in the long run if a cheaper cam that does everything you need is available. It totally makes sense to me.
Happy birthday Terry!!! Thanks for bringing your brand of sunshine and energy to the platform. This world is a better place because you’re in it!
I shoot on the a7SIII and a1 and there's just no new features that are on any of the current cameras that would pull me off of either. That being said, the ONE thing I resonate with is I don't like to take my cameras out to certain locations but that's just a society thing these days. You've gotta be aware of where you shoot and your surroundings!
You get the 2 best cameras for the videos on the market before the cine camera, so its normal you don’t want to change lol ^^
I thought the same, I got the zv-e1 as a backup thinking id almost never use it. Now it's my main. Until you enjoy the basically perfect autofocus that snaps onto any subject immediately, you probably wouldn't understand
This makes me feel better about my ZV-E1 purchase haha, I’ve overheated it once, and switched out the battery on the spot and was good for the rest of my shoot, it was a 2 hour long shoot, I don’t find overheating to be an issue either!
Hey Terry I watched the whole video. You got me thinking about getting a zv for my second cam. I had my fx3 since the day it was born. My fx3 proven to me that it can endure all my UA-cam videos for fishing and hunting adventures. It is a power horse and survived through hot, cold, rainy weather, mud, dust, and bugs attack. It is a true heavy duty TANK for my purposes. Thanks for sharing your perspective. God bless and have a good day :)
Hey buddy, I am a Sony user for several years and currently I have FX3, FX6 and A7R3 for photography, but...what I am going to say is with great respect to you and colleagues, I understand each one works the way you like, the ZVE1 is a very good camera but for some reason in CINEMA EI the difference in dynamic range is much higher vs SLOG3. The image is very clean in the highlights and exposure is almost RAW. It is confirmed that SLOG3 has some problems in magenta and reds colors but instead when you film in CINEMA EI that doesn't happen. You would never see hollywood people using sony cameras using slog3, is for a reason right? If you feel comfortable working with SLOG3 because of your workflow go ahead, but in my case I don't trade CINEMA EI for anything in the world, and if you use an Atomos Recorder direct on SDI 12 bit cable, you'll realize that what I'm talking is true. Anyway I always tell my colleagues that it's not the arrow, it's the Indian behind the camera. cheers.
interesting comment, i got my a Sony fx3 but Can you advise me a cheaper camera to use as Back up ? Thank you
@thepreluder8273 Hi buddy, a great but cheap backup camera does not exist, but thinking about your budget, would it be $1,500? I recommend a Sony A7III with an Atomos Recorder, because the camera records 12 bit RAW via micro HDMI, now, if you have a budget around $2,500 the Sony A7IV is a great option because it comes with regular HDMI and records at 14 bit RAW with an Atomos you could record directly to an external SSD drive that you could buy 1 with a 4TB capacity, So in Apple ProRes the image quality is awesome. I hope my information is very helpful to you. Greetings.
@@JoeVazquezProductorMusical Thanks your feed back is really helpfull 📸
Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean exactly ? Can’t you shoot slog3 with cine EI activated ? In that case would I still have magenta tint shifts ? I sold my fx30 a year ago, switched to a BMCC6k full frame and now want to go back to something like an fx3 (or a nice camera with a focus on videos) cause I can’t operate the black magic on my own.
@@giuliomalloni3975 Hi buddy Cine EI is the same slog 3 but more flat. I have BMCC6k Pro and is a great camera too, if you don’t have work in manual focus you have to buy a lidar system like DJI and you can get auto focus with the Blackmagic camera. Hope I could answered your concerns.
Thank you for this video. Your insights are fresh and practical. Sometimes it hits me - we buy all these expensive cameras, but we still do a ton of work in post to achieve a look that is possible to achieve with a cheaper camera.
All these Sony creators 'switching' their FX3's, ya know what's coming up. Should be an interesting end of year for camera releases.
Yeah your wrong. There’s no rumors or anything about the successor of the fx3 anywhere. I’m choosing the camera I think suits my needs best for my set of needs that I have right now
fr are they making videos of an a7siv
@@SaxSpy y’all can think what you want. I have no clue about a new a7s or fx. If I did I wouldn’t have gotten a zv-e1
Bro you do you and enjoy your Birthday! I hope this coming year is your best yet!
You and I know it’s now the gear, it’s the user! It’s what’s on the page! It’s movement, composition. I know for a fact you could shoot the exact same project with both cameras and know one would know the difference! Same damn sensor. I’m in your side, but I’m debating between the Sony and the sigma fp. Thoughts?
At this point in my career as a full-time videographer, I don't think gear really matters in 2023, especially if you are making videos for instagram or tiktok. My colleague recently worked on a Ferrari global commercial, using an FX30. And the footages are sharp af.
In 2023 any camera can do the work
Lumix S5II actually has a built in fan.
good for film?is it cinematic
@@mattduncan5500 it is Yes, However cinematic look is about lighting not the camera itself.
@@iammz81 a lot of cameras which are digital are said to better for a 'film look' . film for most people would be considered more cinematic than crisp digital. ie. ppl like the 12 mb sensor in the fx3 feeling it is softer and good for creating a film look
and a sh*tload of moire
@@robertbalkovec4087 there are filters that helps you block moire.
Cant wait to pick up my ZV-E1. I think its going to be a great compliment to my A7IV
Happy Birthdya Bro! Got me thinking the a7c2/R is going to be a beast... ;)
It makes sense. The FX3 is overkill for most people and the ZV-E1 is just perfect for setups like yours. No need to break the bank on this one. Happy birthday bro 👊🏽.
Wait did I hear that right?!? The fx3 for the Sony zv e1??! Although I might disagree, the best camera is the one that we have in our hand and I’m sure with your talent and creative abilities you’ll still be able to crank out amazing content bro! God bless and Happy Birthday!
Just gotta pick what you feel works for you. I shoot on an FX3 for local production companies and still find myself filming with my GH4 more often than my Sony.
You’re golden with just about anything these days. Keep inspiring G!
Same here! I only use my black magic on bigger productions! I really use my Gh4 most of the time and I freaking love it
love to see more love for the GH4! still rocking one too
Still using gh4 and gh5 too, love them both
What general do you guys use for GH4 and does everyone shoot in V-Log/Cinelike V? Just bought an FX30 after using a GH4 for a bit
@@Subala_Villa I still shoot music videos with the gh4. I shoot standard profile but I drop sharpness saturation and contrast to -5. I find I get better flexibility in post than when I use cinelike
I've had the ZV-E1 for a few months now..., never had an FX3.., but the ZV-E1 has been great for me! plenty of long takes out in the heat too ( summer time by the beach) 80+ degrees F.., and its been a joy to use.., no overheating or warnings so far.. It might not be setup for the most professional features.., but its perfect for quick n dirty type shooting... i bought a white one too haha,, i was that paranoid about the overheating issue prior to receiving it
have you shot FHD or 4k on the beach?
we love u terry and no you selling your camera does not mean we "should have to follow" understand you have a lot of influence and the younger audience may follow you tooth and nail. and i appreciate you telling people not to sell. but when you do these continue to be careful not to push GAS and we know how you feel about GAS. keep the good work. but encourage people to use what
Happy Birthday T!! No lie tho.. the 3rd party fans coming to market for the ZV-E1 should alleviate some of the demanding shoots that the ZV-E1 would otherwise struggle with.
About 38% of a Terry Warfield video is Terry telling us what he's "not saying" lol !
Happy birthday brother thanks for all your content, looking forward to many more years!
Right decision terry , for longer interviews you have panasonic and A7 IV , and 4k 120 needs for short bursts ZVE1 is good enough
I wonder, would you get an FX3 II if it meets your expectations in the video you did previously ?
As someone who owns both the FX3 and ZV-E1, I completely understand this! The ZV-E1 is the actual A7CII I was waiting for (because of my video focus over photography). It's just missing the viewfinder which I already got used to with my FX3. Also, it's lighter, full frame, half the cost, and you mentioned the exact reason I bought it to be my out-and-about UA-cam camera/B-CAM -- it doesn't ✨look✨ expensive. I went to Mexico City with it and I looked like a tourist. I grab the ZV-E1 more than my FX3 now when leaving my home. Also, saw you through your collab with Brittney 😎, subscribed!
Kept watching: My ZVE1 overheated for the first time while I was filming 4k-30fps continuously for a tutorial (I teach editing online) but again ZVE1 is B-CAM for this stuff so I'm not pressed FX3 kept chugging plus it finally overheated like 4 hours into filming 🫨
@@halleasehave you figured anything out for the overheating?
@@halleaseIs autofocus in zve1 better than in S3 ? Thanks!
I made a similar change recently that I'm dropping a video about this week. People tend to create such personal attachments to their chosen gear, but at the end of the day, every use case is unique. I'm glad you found a version that works for you and also allows you to fund another passion you have!
❤ the ZV-e1.
It’s such a bomb little camera
I did exactly that, and I'm so happy. I just got the 20-70mm and I love it more than my 24-70 GMii. Bro if you need to record for a long time, get the Ulanzi fan. It's $40, and the updated version 2 sticks in way better and let's it play outdoors till the battery dies. I literally shot a wedding with it, filmed the whole ceremony with it for an hour straight, the Ulanzi fan works.
I was gonna say you gonna get the Lumix then i remembered that you already got one. Heard good things on the ZVE1. Happy birthday man!
I was so tempted to buy that fx3 off of you 😆 but after using my a6700 today I kind of wished I had the zv-e1 instead. Happy birthday Terry!
What’s wrong with a6700?
@@jaymills1720 just wanted a little more extra low light and zoom rocker haha. but still a great camera.
I’ve been using the ZVE1 now for videos and photos. I love it
Where do you guys sell your gear so easily? And for a good price.
I love how u are always so real! I will always watch your stuff!
Happy Birthday bro. I’m not gone lie, I called this months ago. Everybody wanted to hate on this camera when it came out because it didn’t have the super pro features ( 2nd card slot, more dials, buttons, 120fps at release, “Overheating”) but now people can’t get enough of it. I’m all for it because I love the ZV-E1. I believe the perfect combo would be a ZV-E1 for videos and a A7CR II A7R4/5 or A74 for photos
Im a filmmaker in Oakland California, so I feel you on not wanting to take my a7siii out and would rather go out with a zv-e1.
Less expensive and not as chunky/expensive looking.
First the a7siii and now this!! 😮😮😮 haha jk man, love it and stoked your going all in with the ZV E1 model. Excited to see you continually crushing it.
Just ordered a zve1 as a b cam for a7siii lol
Man.. That FX 3 seems to be King of Video Sony Camera's!!!!! When I went down the best Sony Camera for Real Estate last year; the Sony A7RV won for me.... But if I had to do it all again, Should I have gotten the FX 3 vs the A7RV.....................???? Seems like the ZV E1 meets the best of both worlds.. Especially for getting the best video specs..... Sony definitely hits every need and wants for your needs. Thanks for your Vids Terry... Im a fan.
Hahah Terry be like, “before you cuss me out!!!” 👏🏻
First of all, happy birthday buddy! 🍕🎁🎈 Second, I have to say that I find it a weird decision. Yes the inside of the ZV-E1 is comparable with the FX3 but that does not make it an FX3. There is a reason for the price difference. You are of course going to lose money on this deal if you ever want to go back to the FX3. Then there is the money issue. I know the US culture is spending until you drop, but as a independent business owner you should have a considerable buffer. Then I don't mean that your bank allows you to have more depth. No real money that is actually your money. Don't buy a sports bike unless it is from your own money instead of going into some sort of lease construct. And only do that if you have a buffer to provide for yourself and your family for at least 6 months without any form of income. I know, you know I am right. You are smart. I also know that you are going to ignore it anyway.
The ZV-E1's internal mic is insane. I was so surprised because it's way better than the ZV-E10's internal mic, but kinda looks the same. Speakers are also surprisingly good.
You go for it dude!!
I love that you stressed "for MY use case". So many times on forums I'll ask a simple question and get a few people that want to change my mind about the camera and lenses I use.
I chose the camera I have and the camera I'm getting based on what I film, what my clients need and what makes me the most money.
You do YOU brother!!
Talk to me about the dual card slots!!! If I’m shooting a wedding highlight - I want to know I can have a backup! What cards do you recommend then? I’ve never had a card fail me before (I am a photographer not videographer) … but I’d be terrified rocking the 1 slot
So why not get the fx30?
Happy birthday Terry. It's a free world, each to their own. I have often regretted selling stuff (well maybe 5-10% of stuff, mostly no regrets). But it can usually be bought back again (occasionally for less than I sold it for, but usually more). If ever needed. Or for sentimental reasons.
Anyway, many of us (in the developed world) probably have too much stuff. It's cathartic to 'slim down' and streamline kit, removing old stuff that's past it's use to you.
Happy birthday dude! New to the channel, new to Sony, and I enjoy your content. Cameras are just tools, so get what is best for you at any given time. If we hold on to tech for too long it loses its value.
I traded my zve1 for an fx30 but I live up in Vegas and that thang overheated in an event. I missed crucial moments but the picture was amazing. The dynamic stabilization was amazing but because it punched in on a uhd sensor the image was just too soft. Great quality but hoping to jump to the next A7s camera. Really hope dynamics stabilization comes to future cameras.
What’s your experience with FX30 so far? I’m debating this vs ZVE1 and A7SIII
@@marvoski547 if you can, grab the a7s3. That camera is amazing. Zve1 is an amazing camera too but for professional work I’d pass on it. The fx30 is absolutely amazing but lot of noise. That will be the biggest battle. Definitely would choose a7s3 over all of them though.
I have the Fx3 and I live in Vegas too. I do a lot of content creation in difficult and extreme temperatures, and not once has it overheated on me. For my workflow and needs, it's the best and most dependable camera. I don't see myself switching or selling it, until the 3rd generation is available.
@@dannycastro1826 nah my zve1 overheated. Yeah hoping to get a steal on a fx3 or jump to the next wave of cameras for professionals.
I love my a7siii, always will. I’m not selling it but my zv-e1 has largely replaced it for my daily camera. Given your circumstances your choice makes sense to me.
I've been saying this since the zve1 was rumored to come out. I shot in the desert, and full blown music videos with my zve1. No extra sd card slot, still kept my footage safe, no internal fans, not once did it overheat, it's my main camera now and my a7iv is my B cam
I can respect your outlook. For me, I need my FX3 as it does bring a certain amount of "respect" when being hired by people plus I am never sure what I need to shoot
Paul and I shot 3 days straight in 98 degree (115 heat index) in Orlando with the ZV-E1 in 24fps and a bunch in 120fps and not once did it overheat. Both of us definitely overheated and had to run into AC but the camera stayed strong
I like how Sony is reaching all target audiences based on budget, all giving you the best bag for the buck. I’m still shooting on my Sony A7iii in 2023. I believe my next move is going to be the Sony ZV-1
I'm in a similar position to you, but I'm going for the FX3 when I can. Eye-AF in video and 4K slow-mo are features I really long for.
Is autofocus in zve1 better than in S3 ? Thanks!
@@karolmcgonigle1689Is autofocus in zve1 better than in S3 ? Thanks!
I went for the ZV-E1 in the end.
The AF is excellent - the upgrade was a big leap over the A7 III for me.
@@KarolMcGonigle Thank you!
Doesn't the ZV-E1 overheat like crazy tho?
Very rarely for me
It actually makes sense. Long as you don't take too much of a beating on the resale, that's probably the move for the moment.
I can commend you for being honest with YOURSELF! Most people wouldn’t do what you did, because people believe gear makes them relevant. Not to say it has no importance, but it’s nice to see creators being honest with themselves. I have an FX3 and I said to myself if anything happens I’m grabbing the ZV-E1. I do think you’re crazy, lol … but definitely not a dumb or stupid decision and your logic makes sense not that it should matter to anyone BUT YOU! Happy born day and ride safe on your future bike.
I’m feeling the love for LUMIX cameras from a Sony shooter. I use both and I’m happy.
get em terry!!!
Well - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! As to why you made the move, I cannot see it. But if you feel that is what "you need" then God Bless you !!!! I hope it will serve you well, Terry. Cheers, mate!!!
I does a change similar... sold my a7s3 and bought a ZVE1. The Reasons?: Better AF, Luts on display, Breathing compensation, Variable Shutter, cheaper, small and lighter (omg, my back appreciated), touch screen, same quality, and for me no overheat at all (i no shot on 120p for long time, and in 24p running out my SD card and was perfect).
What i miss from my a7s3?: better display quality (the ave1 has the same display than the a74) and some physical dials (specialy the m1-2-3, on the zve1 are on the display) and that´s it.
Many Happy Returns Of the Day! First time viewer. Liked and Subbed! Love you work on this video.
Yeah man at first I was sayin, 'Huh??', but your argument makes perfect sense... I am also in the same boat of not always wanting to take out my expensive/attention drawing camera (proud A1 owner here), ESPECIALLY at night or in sketchy places... I rented a ZV-E1 to record some DIY Home Renov and vacation vids and it was great! It DID overheat a couple of times, but only because I pushed it way outside of what it's supposed to do... Btw it's video tracking and active dynamic stabilization are AMAZING; Sony needs to put these on ALL future cameras. My Main Pain: The back LCD screen! WHY Sony??? 🙄🤦😔....
Happy BDay Terry. Good you make moves to shoot with what you are happy with. The ZVE1 is great. Compact and powerful
Happy Birthday! I did the exact same thing a few months ago. The value is still high on the FX3, but as people realize the power of the (missing) AI chip, that will change.
happy bday terry, i love my zve1 so much, fantastic image quality and autofocus is damn beast
Happy Birthday Terry.
What happened to the a7RV, we need an update...
OML yours too?! My younger cousin and my great uncle's was today as well! Happy Birthday Terry!
Happy birthday mate and enjoy a lot !!! That’s all I can tell you, cause you buy what you really need.
See ya !!! 💪
Ain’t no psychanalyst but this might be a case of Gear Acquisition Syndrone. But hey, if that makes you happy and you can afford it, go for it man. More power to y’a. Cheers and keep up the good work.
Nope. Because I waited months to make the decision
happy belated bday my brother!
My man! ZV-E1 is the GOAT. Mine doesn't overheat in 4k24 at all. Battery ran empty.
Happy birthday Terry, I don't own a Sony of any sort, but I sure would love to get my hands on one, I shoot lumix gh5s and I would love to explore other brands as to decide which gears works the best for me ❤, Wishing you a long life Jiggy
Happy Birthday, Terry! Thanks for always providing us good content!
Have a great birthday Terry!
First off Happy Belated Birthday. You got the Storm Shadow edition. looks nice. I say get and use what works for you. That is why they exist so many options.
I sold my FX3 2 weeks before the ZV-E1 was released knowing that the FX3 market would get saturated and go down in pricing. I love the ZV-E1. I don’t need the dual card slot or mic grip. Plus the size of the ZV sold me.
Super entertaining and fun to watch; and I'm not even much of a video guy. Well done.
happy bday mane
Happy birthday big T🙌🏽🎉💫. Many happy returns.
I’m still rocking my Fuji X-S10 but I really need a new camera because my Fuji overheats and the battery sucks 😭 the camera I want/need is the lumix s5ii x
happy early bday bro, im about to by an fx3 as my first serious cam for taking videos mostly car stuff do you think I should get an fx30 instead I really wanted a nice cinema cam w great low light figured buy once cry later ya feel
FX6 :) Building my vibe with an FX30 and then FX6, then Sony Venice II or Arri :)
Terry! you're the man! I rock 2 A7siii and and 6600 for run and gun.. Its all about work flow! AND the DJI MICS ARE BOSS AF!
The FX3 is a great camera, but to be real, I rather have two camera than just one expensive camera. There's time when you need one camera vs. the other. ZV-E1 hands down is my favorite camera and I used this when I'm at certain events to traveling, but I also have the FX30 because it somewhat has the same features of the FX3 but in an APSC body. Lenses are cheap, and its just a weather proof camera. ZV-E1 and a FX30 together are a beast and there's no need for an FX3
You made me SO FREAKIN HAPPY when you said ZV-E1, cause between those two cameras I made the EXACT same decision and haven’t regretted it since. You also having the same DJI mic setup as I do was just icing on the cake. Legit can’t wait to create more stuff now 😭
I'm back from a trip in Tokyo. It was 39°C (102 F°) all the week. I was with my ZV-E1 added a SmallRig cage + Tamron 20-40mm 2.8. Compact and powerful set up. No overheating issue what so ever. I was shooting in direct sunlight in 4K24p and 4K120p. I will post my video trip soon on my UA-cam Chanel to show you guys.
Short burst recordings I guess?
Change your smoke alarm batteries lol
Happy birthday. Please let us know what is that wireless mic you're using. I'd love to switch from my big Shure to something that sounds almost the same but it's wireless.
Terry, I love your videos. Very valuable information. But question, what mic are you holding in this video?
Love that fir you, man! Honestly the FX30 is for me, but I feel you on this one.
Happy Birthday Terry! I don't even remember 38! Enjoy the day! Thanks for sharing!
Happy Birthday Terry!!! I feel you in this video. I sold my A7siii for the ZV-E1. My main reason is that I wanted a smaller body with the same specs of my A7siii. And with MY use case (MY! MY! MY! 😂) the ZV-E1 is perfect. I haven’t even experienced any overheating at 4k 10-bit recording in the Philippine heat 👍
How do you manage humidity when coming from outside heat and humid environment to inside without problems of condensation inside the camera or lens?
Thanks
best camera is the one that does what you need! a cheaper camera can be better than an expensive one!
Happy B-Day!🎉🎊🕺
Nice move, in my opinion! Can’t wait to see the sport bike you get!
Happy Birthday Terry! Always enjoy when a video from you pops up...
Im with these cameras for the 4-channel sound, and 240 fps slo mo. And the 4:2:2 10-bit color
White or silver cameras are better when out doors when its hot and the sun is beating down because they can reflect some of that hear. Black cameras are better when its very cold out and the sun is out and the internals of the camera will be a little warmer and your batteries last longer when its warmer.
Back in the film days National Geographic photographers would glue down white cardboard paper to reflect some of the heat from their cameras. Some parts of the world can get up to 120 degrees and film can get messed up. Also when its really cold film can snap and that's when its better to have a black camera.
Happy birthday Terry! I like you films, so I'm waiting your new one.😊
Wow did I need to hear this. Today I bought the a6700 and I'm selling the FX30. Just too many features that aren't important to me. I got a great deal on it so I won't take too much of a beating but at least I'll have a camera I'm more comfortable with. Keep up the good work.
Happy Birthday, Brother You have to do what you have to do at the end of the day it's just tools that tell stories. We will never find the "perfect" camera. Though we can strive for "perfection". Thats the ingredient of creativity for self.
Happy Birthday! At the end of the day is your choice to sell it. You want to get something else.
Yo yo! I'm actually in the market for an FX3. Where do you have it listed?
