Yes... Abhishek.. Listening to an all time great
yes here in the UK, stay safe fella !
Same here in the US. Stay safe!
Yes..I too listening
Greetings from France
keep safe!
The fact that the audiences are also singing “we shall overcome, someday” make me tear up so much.
We’re not alone. We suffer together. And we overcome together. This is truly the anthem of the civil rights movement.
A interesting fact its 6 year after germany was split by a wall and the person know waht that mean because it is in berlin. I hope we german never forght and we will overcome our history and help other. God help us!
there is a song by Pete "Tomorrow's Children" gave me a vision that has kept me in the movement that Pete Seeger sang for. Urge you to hear
Yes, Brava.
Yes, the civil Rights Movement
Our new anthem 😊 in 2024
God be with America and us all now more than ever.
yes! thank goodness for the wise and everlasting solidarity of God especially for all who suffer - two footed, four footed, winged, finned, and green
We got this. Our ancestors have been through this before as well and we can learn from them before its too late.
Its hard to not cry hearing these songs.
lhkemp I know
Was not hard enough.
No need to cry. Carry hope and fight on against tyranny. Wherever you are. Its a great Hope Anthem
I never Cry.. Bad voice
very much so
Literally my world view changed after an introduction to his music at a concert at Western CT State University in 1968. All of a sudden words like peace, freedom, justice and compassion gained meanings that I'd never thought very deeply about. His passion and his courage will be in my consciousness for life. I regret that he is no longer with us.
Me too! Just not at Western CT State. The music of Pete Seeger, Peter Paul & Mary, Phil Ochs AND the events of 1968 from the Tet Offensive, the McCarthy campaign, the assassinations of MLK & RFK and then the Police Riot at the Democratic Convention affected my thinking for the rest of my life. No other year affected me so deeply
In 1964 I attended a concert at The Hollywood Bowl.. Pete Seeger & Peter Paul and Mary. "We Shall Overcome".. was one song performed. ( Los Angeles CA )..In 1968 I was a Nurse Aide at Good Samaritan Hospital when Bobby Kennedy was brought in to ICU. History.. and now..we circle around to the need for people to sing loud for freedom, justness, compassion, and the fearlessness of speaking out. Trueness of spirit and courage of heart and common sense of mind WILL prevail. peace on..
btw..the Reverend Charles Albert Tindley wrote this song. Pete Seeger made this a popular song.

There's something about the "we are not afraid today" verse in this recording specifically that always gets me close to tears whenever I hear it.
Ditto.
I'm so glad that my parents told me help society.
I have the same reaction.
“do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:13
So many young people have never heard of Pete, or his wonderful music, or his "facist-killing machine": The acoustic guitar! My favorite History teacher in HS used to bring his guitar to class, he played and sang this song in the mid-70's. I hadn't heard of Pete before that, but became a fan that day. Mr. Mitchell was Blackfoot native American (and ridiculously handsome). I had such a crush, but I also learned so much in his class. NOBODY skipped Mr. Mitchell's class!
Wasn't that Woodie Guthrie
@@killercd7682 Yes, it was Woody Guthrie who had "This machine kills fascists" on his guitar. Pete Seeger had (and here I try to remember from memory) something along the lines of "This machine surrounds hate and forces it to surrender" on his banjo at some point.
To be honest, I like the no-nonsense directness of Woody's version :-)
@@andrewwigglesworth3030 So you’re ok with killing if it’s someone you disagree with ?
@@robinhood480 I don't think you understand, it was a guitar ... think about it.
I recently discovered him and am currently trying to spread his music
“Somebody has to be willing to sing, we are not afraid!” That part got me.
ESPECIALLY sung unannounced behind the iron curtain on live national TV. Pete was rallying a beleaguered people, and he stepped up and got an enormous pinch hit. He was willing to say to power, "WE ARE NOT AFRAID." Twenty years later, when freedom came, people said this had given them hope and stealed their resolve.
Pete was absolutely right. That *is* the most powerful part of the song. I get choked up every time I hear it. The courage of those marchers in Alabama continues to inspire.
@@landslave why must anarchists defame all socialist projects that were objectively better to the people who lived under it?
'57 percent, or an absolute majority, of eastern Germans defend the former East Germany. "The GDR had more good sides than bad sides. There were some problems, but life was good there," say 49 percent of those polled. Eight percent of eastern Germans flatly oppose all criticism of their former home and agree with the statement: "The GDR had, for the most part, good sides. Life there was happier and better than in reunified Germany today." '
Me too 😰
I cry every time I watch this, I still believe in the power of the collective that we can upend the oppressive systems and overcome that which divided us. I live in hope still. Change is not an easy pathway - but let not us not be dissuaded. Though any road is long let us rest and savour the destination when we reach it.
I'd like to dedicate We Shall Overcome to anyone who is being bullied or maligned in any way.
The Palestinians and hence their supporters including Jeremy Corbyn
Thank you.
Thank you!!

I remember in the late 60s taking one of Seeger's albums over to a friends house to play. After I left my friend got in touch with me and told me his parents told me never to bring the record back into their house.. I loved/love his music and what he stood for. That incident never left my memory.
Sid Kaskey - Pete Seeger moved a lot of people to be brave and tolerant. He also scared a lot of people, making them face unpleasant things. ☮️❤️🛐
@@mariec.9102 My friend's parents called Seeger's a communist. It was and is a term used by too many who do not give thought to things carefully.
@@sidkaskey He actually was a communist though. Like literally. I am too, so I think it's a good thing.

It's May 31st 2020, at the time of this comment. Things are getting hairy here in the states. But we too, shall overcome someday.
We have a lot to overcome this time. He wants to cause a civil war & he doesn't bother to relise how this is all happening or why. If the REPUBLICAN party doesn't soon step up we may never be the Great Country of AMERICA again. My heart is sad for the Generations who will never know the feeling of pride all AMERICA's have lived with. We were prowerful in our pride, honesty and even in our humility . I don't know if thats even explainable ?

You can add January 6th, 2021 too

The most important verse if the one they wrote down in Montgomery Alabama
They said 'We are not afraid'
And the young people taught everybody else a lesson
All the older people that had learned how to compromise
And learned how to take it easy, and be polite, and get along
And leave things as they were
The young people taught us all a lesson
We are not afraid
We are not afraid
We are not afraid, today
Oh, deep in my heart

Vielen vielen Dank, ich möchte gerade jetzt diesen song wieder öffentlich zeigen und ihn in meine Sprache übersetzen. Ich hatte die freie Rede akkustisch nicht ganz verstanden. Es hat mir sehr geholfen. Danke!

I was listening to this song in 1984. During my music lessons at school. They said this was an Anti-war song. I do believe
Yes I am listening to this song..... brings back memories of the struggles of the 1950's and 60, 70's's.... and what Pete contributed with his singing and giving us sustaining strength ....
I knew him slightly when I was a child. His words and music speak to us, especially now. I am sorry to lose so many great musicians. May they guide us always with their light and music.
That’s the wonder of the gift of music it’s timeless.
Immortal lyrics 😊
There are those, relatively unknow, perhaps, who are still carrying the torch.
If you ever met anyone of his stature and courage in your life you have been very fortunate
This song was our morning attendance prayer in school...... brings back whole lot of memories!!!!
That's amazing, and very cool! Where did you go to school?
In our school also it was the morning prayer

Corona, we as a race will soon overcome it... Stay strong everyone!!

My thoughts exactly. This is why I searched for this song xxx
हा हम ही जीतेंगे। मानवता जीतेगी
Hopefully, after all of this is over, the world will come closer to the vision of the lyrics. Everywhere we are seeing compassion & humility that has brought us to care for one another for we are at our most vulnerable as a human race, and we need each other to survive. Once we overcome this hopefully we'll have a better understanding of what makes us meaningful & create a better future for all of our kind.

Great singer.... takes me back to Winnipeg in the 1950's... and the struggle working people faced then and now !
Several months ago I was in a group listening to music and a guy played We Shall Overcome. A very lovely young woman had never heard it before. I was so shocked. I thought everyone knew it. At least now she's heard it, but I wonder how many others in their 20s have never heard one of the most important songs we have.

I really needed this right about now
I love this song.
This gospel song, which became a protest song in the Civil Rights Movement is believed to be lyrical descendant of the hymn " I 'll overcome someday " by Charles Albert Tindley.
The Hindi version " हम होंगे कामयाब " was a literal translation composed by renowned poet Girija Kumar Mathur.
The Bengali adaptation " আমরা করবো জয় " was penned by Bengali folk singer Hemanga Biswas and first recorded by the late Bhupen Hazarika.
Thats right good
👌👌❤
Anyone born in 70 , 80s and early 90s in India know the English and Hindi version and ppl in eastern india all 3 😊
Thank you for posting this information.
I was looking for the original after hearing an alternate version that was recorded by Roy Zimmerman in Flint, Michigan, during the water crisis there. He sang a beautiful counterpoint about all the people needlessly lost due to structural injustice. I wasn’t sure if that was part of the original song or not. I guess he wrote the extra verses.
