  • This video covers the full track, To Craig's Hut from the Circuit Road traveling along the Clear Hills Track, It is a nice drive, and I think Craig's Hut is a great destination, with excellent views, Toilets, Picnic tables and seats. The hut was built as part of the set for THE MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER film, and is now a must-see Landmark in the Victorian High Country. There are tour operators taking people there, or you can also go by riding a horse. However, you go it will be worth it. We went by 4WD, driving our Nissan Pathfinder. I had the camera on the OUTSIDE of the windscreen and it did quite a good job, but it did pick up all the engine noise as if it was sitting on the engine. (I hope this helps anyone planning to take this track)

Thanks for sharing. Have been considering the track on an upcoming holiday and was worried I might need a big 4WD. Your video makes it clear this is a very good track and anything bigger than a Mazda 323 would be sufficient. So I guess even if I rent an AWD SUV, that will be more than enough.

+AlmostSwiss I believe there are signs there that say 4WD only, but I agree it does not need to be a big 4WD, but with rain or wind storms, this or any track could have changed quite a bit since this video was made. I would recommend a 4WD with high and low range gears, and a reasonable amount of clearance underneath, and travel with another 4WD. You can ring the National Park and get their recommendations as to the quality of the tracks and what you need that way you know. Hope this helps a bit.

I just did it last week in a Suzuki SX4, which is a small SUV with part time AWD. It was easy, but I appreciated the extra clearance this would have over a standard car.
The Nissan Xtrail in front of us was quite pleased with himself until he saw us drive into the carpark. ;)
