Great to hear the story around how "Big Boss" got his name and his relationship to you. Thanks for sharing and for clearing that up!
Kudos to your dad and biggest boss, the world would be a better place if we had more dads and big bosses like this.
There is always a time to call it to quit, you gave your Asus laptop your best and it's time to move on. Always fun as usual.
I think about fathers day and I see this video and how you appreciate your father and Uncle. Two very important people in your life. Such a blessing to be able to experience that. Happy Father's day guys.
When the fiberglass of the PCB get that hot, to turns in to carbon and becomes conductive. That's your short. take note that the resistance went up when you ground some of the carbon away. It is possible to lift the trace layer and clear the carbon, but you have to get it all.
That would be when the grinding pen will be a useful tool.
Isn't fiberglass made out of glass fiber? Glass fiber is made from silicates from Silicon. I can't find a recipe for glass fiber that contains carbon. Maybe it's from the resin.
he didnt clean all up. so i see the qualification of that rookie…
yes because carbon is a fantastic conductor... look at Nanite one of the most conductive and electro efficient materials out there. Look as how much static carbon fibre components emit.
Thank you for your video! I am very happy to see that you have a good relationship with your father and that you are supporting each other. Unfortunately, this is not a matter of course and there are different fathers. All the best!
Big Boss is his uncle.
A Big Family of hard work! Thanks to you,big Boss and your dad for all!♥️
nice to see your dad alex an important part of the team regards to him
The guy is straight forward and perfectly fix things.... helps a lot.
Big boss is really a cool calm guy just like a true martial artist I’m loving the working environment thumbs up
maybe it's the little boss beating up on the big boss, he is just calm now because he has to be. little boss is now head boss
I just want to reiterate how much I love your channel and everything you stand for. You’re one of the most honest, upstanding citizens i can think of. By the way, how was the new house viewing?
Darcy's performance as the cursor on the screen was oscar worthy.
Such a good video. A big shoutout to you co-workers, bigboss and your dad. They always do a good job backside of the cam and your job. Greetz
Great job, keep the old guys working, it keep us alive. Interesting and fun too. Give your dad a nick-name, something nice and strong.
Brave to give Dad a nickname! My Dad would have looked at me kind of bored and frightened me to submission!
You said: 1.3 V (asus)
15 - 16 Ohm
P=U*I =U*U/R
-> Set higher voltage to see hot spot
I like Your work.
I won't be able to tell the difference between your dad and Bigboss, they look alike. 😊 Thank you for the show.
Thanks!
Your work is amazing.. people say am the best but then I now realize uv got more better skills and equipment
i love the way you appreciate BIG BOSS for his hard work, you make him feel better, think better, work better and at night he sleeps better.the simple word `thank you`means a lot you`re a good person.
You say this because you don't Arabs yet 😀
did you get inspiration from Big Boss when growing up for fixing electronics, love for the work? cheers.. just amazing !
Loved the tip on using hot air and the soldering iron to apply low melt to the connector case pins!
You "loved the tip on the soldering iron"? Ok, tschupbach -> you funny. Cheers
@@ovalwingnut Did you read the entire thing? Using BOTH hot air and the soldering iron at the same time....
I learned a lot from this channel, and it is a very educational video. I have a fundamental electronic background, and because of this, I level up.
An honest hard working family. I'd sure be a costumer if I wasnt overseas.
Bruce LEE the LEGEND...LEE never got lost thru time... KEEP UP THE GOOD TALENT
I was sad 😔 no work but then watched your video gives me motivation thanks
As usual, a good video, and not that common..something you didnt know what the H was going on. Over all that, seems you are still having issues with overwork. No qualified helper came through ?
Thank you again for another good video. ( From Europe, David )
Big Boss Said Bismillah before pressing the power button, awsome work I've learned a lot from you
If it is a layer issue, it's possible it didn't get any heat spots because there was no component in the way of the flow of current to get hot, it was just flowing from power to ground through the shorted board layer. Knowledge says the board layers could be carved out and a fix might be possible, Wisdom/Experience says, the board is a no fix. Nicely done!
Yeah, drilling the board wouldn't have been a good idea I agree. I'd leave it up to the customer to find someone crazy enough to do it too.
1. There was no current flow so I don't know what you are writing here
2. You don't need components in the path of current to generate heat. Wires, traces, board layers, whatever metal is enough. Don't think you understand this topic well mate.
@@Martin_danko9207 you're right. I don't know the topic that well, if I did, i'd be fixing boards instead of watching a channel teaching me how to fix boards.
If you hook up positive to ground on your power supply does it detect dead short and limit amperage or does it push all of its amperage to ground?
I'm not sure and I'm not willing to risk my power supply to find out.
I thought Alex said it was injecting 0.7 amps, but I watched again and he said 0.07, so my bad, I was thinking at 0.7 amps it would take a long time to heat the entire ground plane without a component 'in the way' causing the short.
Why don't you educate me instead of just telling me I don't know what I'm talking about. 👍
@@Martin_danko9207 Yea but shorts creates a lot more heat then current flow.
@@xan1242 Like Mark Shaffer perhaps.
Nice to see your Dad back and helping. I thought we lost him to the south.
Liked and subscribed! You are the Bob Ross of electronics repair!
Awesome work Alex, I just wanted to remind you to answer our question on the forum which is how do you manage to remove the glare.
Finally We have seen both your uncle the Big boss and your dad too 👍
He's shown them many other times prior and other family members as well.
Anyone else try to rub the mouse cursor off their screen?😂
;-)
I did lol
Every single time. Even in dreams.
Unexpected doubleheader. Great work and great tale about the nickname of Big Boss.
This is why we keep telling you to get a Electron Tunneling Microscope. This is the right tool for the job. We believe in you! :)
There's a tiny mouse cursor in the middle of the screen when looking through the microscope at 9:10.
you are genius
Its awesome you have a whole family business,. Keep up the great work!
Big boss is great as great bsmalleh before tesing or doing anything may allah have bless on all of u 🙏
21:00 I work as mobile repair guy I can feel the satisfaction ❤️❤️
Thanks to sir Alex who gave me great tips for replacing Ports
subtitles at 0:30 "lets just put the meter in diet mode" LOL gotta love the subtitles sometimes
Your videos are always fun to watch you and your big boss did a good work. He is a big boss of the big bosses. What time keep the flow going well done. I love the videos you did absolutely a best you could to rescue the Asus laptop, but unfortunately it is not fixed, it is best to be moving on keep the good work going guys. I will recommend your channel to a new
we are interested in seeing an extended workshop tour!
You know it's getting bad when even expensive things are built like shit these days. The manufacturers should feel ashamed.
Great work as always, fascinating to watch. 🤝
You are a legend at what you do
I thought your habit of repeating "solid, solid, solid" when testing pin soldering and the nickname "big boss" were both references to metal gear solid XD
clean better the burnt area with dremel, you still have a connection to ground , the burnt pcb between layers causes low ohm readings ...
The ginormous amount of jobs he has on his dock connotes him not prioritising his time efficiently. So as he said that type of grinding/rebuilding repair will have to happen elsewhere.
Shoutout to big boss 💯💪🏽
Thanks for explaining why Big Boss is called Big Boss. Been puzzling me for a while now.
How do you determine what ceramic capacitor to use as a replacement? Don't they have ratings that I should be concerned about?
And now we finally know that in the past big boss was a Martial arts senseiiiiii 😅🔝 love it. Big boss you are the man 💪
Good call, sir!
What’s your ESD protocol besides the blue mat? I don’t see a esd strap and doubt esd shoes.. just wondering since you’re handling components barehanded
great video alex ... a man after my own heart BRUCE LEE my favourite also ..good to see a little shop work flow haha ...
Hey man, I have a couple questions that I'm totally stuck on. First off, let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of your channel!! I've been interested in repairing laptop and desktop motherboard boards for roughly 2 years now and I absolutely would not have been able to learn half of what I know if it wasn't for you and your channel. So, thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with me!!
Sooo, I have an Asus ROG Zephyrus gu502gv motherboard that had a loose screw in it somehow and it ended up touching the motherboard causing it to make a "zapping" kind of sound and immediately just shut off and died with absolutely no indication of life whatsoever. No LED lights come on when plugged in. Anyways, I believe that I have found the issue with a blown cap. Now, my issue is that I have absolutely no idea about these caps. I don't know where to even find the exact cap to replace it. Could you maybe give me a little bit of advice on how the caps work and where to find them and if there are certain specific sizes that I would need, please?
Also, I am receiving another Asus Zephyrus ROG gu502 gaming laptop that was given to me by a very random and kind person because they thought it would be a good project and a valuable learning experience on how to repair it. Now, when they gave this laptop to me they said it was totally dead and unresponsive with no signs of life and no LED indications. They told me that her son had spilled soda on the laptop while it was powered on and while he was using it. I'm not sure how bad the spill was. I haven't seen it yet. But, what caps or compositors usually go bad due to liquid damage? She said that the spill had happened on the left side of the laptop and motherboard. Is it even possible for it to be repaired depending on how much of the soda was spilled on it? Or is it just a dead, unrepairable board??
He's not going to read a book kiddo. Make it 4 sentences. The caps are only for rfi or noise protection. You do what he does. Pull a cap from another board. Also you need to study about basic circuits and components so when you see it on a board you recognize the function.
@@radiotests I understand about the super long comments being hard to read. Idk why but I've always done that and always felt the need to explain myself. Plus, when being on a laptop or computer, it doesnt really seem like im typing a whole lot. Anyways, I didn't know where else or who else to turn to for help and advice.
@@OhioBoii330 I left a reply on your video
@@radiotests hey bud, I appreciate that you commented to help me out, however, it says that I have 1 comment but there's nothing there.
thank you for the update on Big Boss ...
:)
Oh boy, that mouse pointer placement. 😵💫
What temperature do you set your hot blow gun to? To do this kind of work.
I freaking love this channel
I never knew using a hot air gun to install an HDMI port was a thing, but I guess I am rookie I would probably damage that port, what temperature setting did you use and what temperature does that solder melt at ?
Love your work 😎👍
I wonder is the reason the motherboard doesn't draw amps now because you didn't replace the capacitors you had to take off to clean the carbon.
Totally aggree with your decision to stop working on the laptop.
At the same time its obvious why only 0.077 Amps are being drawn if you use Ohms Law: I = U/R -> I = 1,4V/16Ω = 0.088A
I dont know how much voltage you injected, but the physics checks out I guess
You saved me writing this too, you are Correct!
I think 1.1-1.3V, for some reason it didn't flash for me either to use the simple physics.
You have a nice set up there. Love your videos!
Looks like the foot of the first component you took off is still there to me.
Switching from thru-hole, soldering 0805 MLCCs onto boards gives me the fear. I've broken a few just by looking at them.
Also in Alienware manual you can see that 2 red 1 blue refers to CPU failure
Amazing family work!
Love the long video!
are we not gonna talk about that dog's face @ 6:30? Please tell me I'm not the only one who sees that :D
What temp did you set to resolder with the heat gun? Did you not melt the plastic?
I'll make a bad martial arts joke. Alex has killer wick-fu skills.
Big Companies that produce that kind of electronics devices is not interesting in to let you repair broken units. Thats why they make it very delicate and hard to get broken so they can sell more units. They actually loose money when good people like you is trying to repair.
Great job 👏👍
very good👍👍
Alsalam alaykom.. why u not fix microsoft laptops .. i need to learn
Good team work
I really love watching your videoes...
How much you normally charge for the repairs?
Bonus content and proof it’s a true family business working well
How do you recycle your used wicks and E waste? And do you make some $$$$ back? 👈😉👍
Love the "Big Boss" story.
Good job mate.
As you said in the past you have a lot of asus laptops.
If you were to try and draw a conclusion, are these old laptops (like 4-5 or more years old) or recent ones (like 3 year max)????
Do you have other gaming laptop brands waiting in line or something that you found repeatedly in another brand !?
Thank you

What is the temperature of hot air and diameter of solder stick?
Where Can I get the grinding tool that you used to grind off the layers to get rid of the short?

my asus gu502gu-xb74 rog zephyrus wont turn on and no charging lights. First I thaught was the battery and got a new one but it wont power up and no charging lights. Any advice what I should do?
Thank you Big Boss
Is this laptop from Chicago Bulls? ;-))
Which one is more reliable PS5, XSX or XSS? I think nowadays nothing is build to last.
One question sir, what is the value of the capacitor which are common failures on asus laptops
7:33 am i the only one that see a dog here? 👀
These ROG Strix Laptops are a plague. We should go forward with a class action lawsuit, unbelievable...
Absolutely, it's not only the strix lineup. Both the zephyrus & tuf laptop lineups have very high failure rates. Even my Asus ROG Strix laptop died twice right after the warranty period. Asus definitely has some planned obsolescence going on here. They need to have a class action lawsuit filed against them. I was gathering data & evidence but couldn't complete it due to personal restrictions.
@@therealb888 Yeah but the Strix takes the 🍰, didn't know the Zephyrus was concerned...
I don't think it's planned obsolescence, they just save on costs, it's always the same problems: ripped battery connector or dead mosfet... I experienced both with mine, back to Lenovo now...
What was your issue ?
I just wonder if some components are not higher standard
Wow! You guys got a Shakey's Pizza! I thought they were out of business. I loved Shakey's
How many times have you eaten there?
Just draw with thin scalpel between the top traces where it seemed to have been blackened, it will take like 5 seconds to do and I think that would have fixed it.
I wonder how thin the layers would be at that spot and if it's a delicate area. He sounds like he's been there, done that. But yes! I wanted to start scratching like a dog with fleas. Cheers
Nice man!
