  • Repair Shop XSX LONG - The seller of this Xbox Series X said they were ripped off by the repair company they sent it to, and in this video I'm going to try to fix it. The HDMI port will need some repairs, and we will have to replace the Retimer chip. If we get lucky this might be an easy fix!

      Because it's not the perfect amount.
      The perfect amount is a small dallop and then spread across the surface.

    Most repair shops don't like fixing HDMI ports. My local shop does not do them. They claim that it cannot be done because it will cause the board to be overheated.

    • @brucepreston3927
      @brucepreston3927 7 місяців тому +8

      It's because they are inexperienced and don't want to destroy peoples consoles...There are too many "repair shops" that claim to be able to fix them and then end up mangled HDMI ports...I would rather them just say they don't work on that part

      That just means that they don't do know how to do them and don't want to learn. It's 100% safe to replace HDMI ports on these boards if you know what you're doing. On top of that this repair is quite profitable. You could probably run a good profitable business just replacing HDMI ports.

    I worked briefly in a cellphone repair shop. The kids that worked there before me would basically take in anything and promise to fix it. Problem being they had no real experience in soldering and were comically inept at obtaining parts. I think some people see videos like yours and don't realize that you put a lot time and effort into developing your skillset...and even you don't have a 100% success rate. This is difficult stuff.

  • @christianbustillos4066
    @christianbustillos4066 7 місяців тому

    I went through a similar situation, the shop basically used my Xbox for parts. They replaced the power supply for a bad one, it was missing the wifi/bluetooth card, it was a different black housing for the entire system chassis. It only needed the power & eject ribbon cable replaced and they tried to screw me over. I took it back and told him to replace it with good working console and he agreed to his mistakes.

    Why’d they go through that much work to fix those traces, just to not have the joints soldered to the board correctly, which they could have done much easier than the traces being fixed? And then allegedly steal a part off of it?

      Yeah, typically you are better off just biting the bullet and having Microsoft fix it. It's $300 for a Series X, and that includes shipping. Sure it is a bit steep, but Microsoft isn't going to designate it "unfixable" and keep your money unless it is from obvious abuse (and then in worst case they will just keep the shipping cost and send it back). They just send you a new one if it is something that can't be repaired. An independent shop can just keep your money, and in some cases like this strip parts and then tell you it can't be fixed.

      @mjc0961 are you missing the part where the seller still did the repair themselves after the initial failed shop repair... but still didn't repair it, despite initiating a repairing themselves.. so sent it out again. That's the problem with the story, not the idea of paying someone to free up your own time. I'm sure that's how you free up your time; Have someone cut your grass poorly, then go out and re-cut it yourself, but only 99% of it, then hire a new company to come back and cut it again to finish that last bit of grass that you decided you wouldn't because you wanted to do something else with that last 20 seconds.
