I also traveled on this beautiful night train last year. We were almost 2 hours late in Bar. This meant that you could also see the beautiful mountain route on the Montenegro side in daylight. You could buy Turkish coffee for one euro from a sleeping car conductor and yes, there was no breakfast, but you can live with it. There are worse things, I can only recommend the trip to everyone, because this route is unique in Europe. In Bar there are many seaside resorts on the Adriatic, where you can find beautiful bays and beaches to relax and enjoy by the sea. I will definitely travel on this train again.🚂💯👌
I didn't know about the Turkish coffee onboard :) I knew there was no breakfast and got some bakery and water earlier, so no problem at all. It was a great experience overall, only the border check at night is a minus. I visited Budva and Kotor after. Would do it all again for sure.
The Turkish coffee was a coincidence because only one sleeper car, Taner, prepared it privately and unofficially for the guests on a camping gas cooker. So as far as fire safety is concerned, you can't look. Some passengers smoked with us too. It's allowed in Montenegro because it's not part of the EU, but the train was still a great experience. The border control is a bit annoying at night. You're not allowed to take photos. I was immediately shouted at by a police officer because I just wanted to take a photo of the sign for Prijepolje Teretna station. I also recommend the Šarganska osmica steam train (about 30 km from Uzice).
Wow, you had an authentic experience with the gas cooker. No grilling sausages on the open fire? :D Compared to that, my carriage felt so posh, like the Orient Express - my fellow passengers went to bed with chickens, no parties, no fights, empty corridors, smelled smoke from the neighbouring cabin just once during the journey… just boring :) Stations in the region must have some kind of top-secret classification or I don’t know…. I was shouted at by security for recording inside the Sarajevo station… like there was anything to see through the smoke anyway…
We used to go on a vacation every year by train from Belgrade. We used to put our car on the special car wagon and travel in a sleeping car to Bar. Then we would disembark with our car in Bar snd continue to our place. Good memories
In 1971, as a high school student, I worked during the summer on the construction of this railway at the location of Brodarevo, between Bjelo polje and Prijepolje. It is an unforgettable experience. Of course, I have traveled many times from Belgrade to Bar and back on this railway.
I thank you for your participation :) What was the mood like between the workers at that time? Was there an awareness of building something spectacular and unusual, or of something crazy and impossible? Or it was just a job?
Thanks for sharing! I also travelled this route on a torrid August day in 1989, just before Yugoslavia started breaking into pieces, the train was overcrowded and we didn't manage to enjoy the astonishing landscape. I heard later the route runs along the world's second deepest canyon after the Colorado. Arriving in Bar, feeling the nearness of the Adria, enjoying its freshness and the relaxed and cozy summer feeling was a well deserved prize after so long sweating. Congrats also for the subtitling letting the train and nature noises starring the video score.
This has a potential to become one of the biggest tourists train travel attractions in Europe ! Amazing route, amazing scenery. It just needs to be refreshed so to say.. renovated, modernized.. equiped with new tracks.. trains.. services. stations.. I see a VERY bright future for this route!
Great..again! That route was on my list a few years back. Wonderful! The Zagreb to Split Sleeper is worth a go. First class....and cheap. Montenegro is a beautiful country. Cheers

Thank you for the video! The line is really due for reconstruction. From what I've read before, it was supposed to be done by Russia. Perhaps delayed indefinitely because of their war, unfortunately.
Did this journey 2 weeks ago, great experience! Have also fun the Lunatic Express between Nairobi and Mombasa which is now gone unfortunately, replaced by a high speed Chinese railway. Be careful what you wish for 😢
You have convinced me ! That is a ride that must be experienced . I wonder how good the scenery was during the hours of darkness and .... how were the bars of Bar ?
Great to hear. I read, that the scenery is nicer in Montenegro, that's why I went in this direction. Bars in Bar? :) Hmm.. no idea actually. I had just a short walk in Bar before jumping on the bus. I chose to stay longer in Budva and Kotor during my visit. Can't see them all :)
The scenery on this route is the best in Montenegro and southern Serbia. However, be prepared for fantastic yet chilling mountainous landscapes in Montenegro and southern Serbia
I’ve always found travelling on a night train to be brave. I‘ve been to over seventy countries so far, but I‘d never dare sit or sleep on a night train (neither in my own, nor in a foreign country). I know it’s practical; especially if you want to arrive rested and ready to tour the city in the morning, but it’s not my cup of tea.
@@Europe-By-Train Yes. I‘ve travelled all over Europe on trains; Paris-Marseille (800 Km) on a TGV (3h15‘), Berlin-Munich (600 Km) on a ICE (4h), London-Paris (460 Km, 2h35‘), Zurich-Brussels (650 Km, 5h), London-Glasgow (680 Km, 5h), Berlin-Budapest (880 Km, 11h), Zurich-Rome (860 Km, 8h)… but it was always an early morning train. I wouldn’t feel safe at any European train station after 9PM.
@@Der_Dolmetscher For me, so far, the worst station I was waiting for a night train at, was Split. But overall, no safety issues. I always book a private compartment. Czech Railway's ones feel the safest to me - attendant in the carriage, room lockable both from outside and inside. Often you can use a Lounge at the station with the ticket while waiting.
Please elaborate on what specific safety issues can arise because otherwise it is usually safe in European trains. Have there been frequent incidents, if so then what kind?
This is a really unique route with spectacular views. for this route, what are your recommendations for hotel accommodation / airbnb. so basically one has to get off in Serbia anyway to buy the tickets . Are they sold on a particular train station?
Not really, I haven't stayed in Belgrade over night. Neither in Bar. Upon arrival, I took a bus to Budva. Tickets are for sure sold at Belgrade and Subotica stations. I emailed to Serbian railways before going to Subotica to check the opening times. They replied quick and in English.
I bought the ticket in Subotica in the ticket office. No online sale, unfortunately. But there are certain travel advisors, who would get the ticket for you and have it delivered to the hotel for double the price. I did not stay in the hotel, so it was not an option for me.

They don't do any kind of reservations with payment during the ticket collection. Also, if you stay longer than 24 hours in Serbia, there is a mandatory tourist registration.
