Szeged is a really attractive city. Great buildings indeed and often a comfortable train journey. I stayed there for 2 days in 2024.

Fun fact: If vagonWEB is correct, then Trenitalia will actually launch a direct Frecciarossa service between Ljubljana and Milan via Trieste and Venice in mid-June. I don't think it'll decrease travel time (it only will do once high-speed lines from Vicenza to Brescia are complete, but that only on the section past Venice), but this just shows the relationship between Italy and Slovenia.

Actually I don't recommend 1nd class rail tickets by PKP Intercity. There's basically no additional amenities, yet it's more expensive. 2nd class is just fine.

2:31 The worst solution for transporting bikes and luggage. If you have a reservation for a bicycle space, then passengers will immediately cover the hanging bike with suitcases, sometimes damaging it. In the Stadler Flirt EMU there are separate spaces for luggage and bicycles.

Much better and much cheaper than trenitalia inter city notte service. eg the equivalent room was 100eur super saver fare Taranto to Milano. The cabin was pretty old, no soap in the loo. No shared shower in the carriage. Plugs worked only off and on etc. Much better breakfast too on the Chopin! My cappuccino was clap cold and was accompanied by a carton of juice and a plastic wrapped supermarket cornetto. No choice other than that.
