  • ** My last Rogator video, and I much enjoyed it! I gave a Pros & Cons in my opinion only of what is important to me and our operation.
** Please keep in mind that I am not bashing any colour, nor do I tolerate that on my channel. What works for me might not for you and so on.
** Hey if you are interested in what I do, and want to watch theses UA-cam videos ad free, then come on over to Patreon, my social media account and follow me there. To be honest, it's dirt cheap for the content that you are receiving. I have been told by many sources I shouldnt have the "tiers" as low as I do. 🤔🤷‍♂️😂

I get why Mike probably doesn't want to discuss some of this stuff publicly, but I'd love to know what their machinery investment and cost is per acre seeded.
The big quad tracks sell for about $600K. The drill and cart are about another $600K. They have 5 seeding units that do 40,000 acres, so 8000 acres per machine. $1.2M/8,000 = $150/acre.
The rule of thumb for farm equipment is it costs 25% of its value to own it, for depreciation, insurance, cost of capital and upkeep. On new equipment the depreciation is much higher, so this figure is probably 30-33%. So their machinery cost for seeding is $150/acre x 30-33% = $45-$50/acre.
    Combines are $600K. I doubt they each harvest 8,000 acres. 8000 acres with one machine is a lot. Probably more like 5,000 acres per machine. $600K/ 5,000 acres = $120/acre x 30% = $36/acre.
Sprayers are $600K. Probably do 6,000 acres each. Sprayers do way more acres an hour, but the application windows are short and you need to do multiple applications, so they don't cover a lot of acres each. $600K/6,000 acres = $100/acre x 25% = $25/acre sprayer cost.
Then you have the miscellaneous stuff... headers, grain carts, grain trucks, augers, spray plane, rock pickers, loader, excavators, service truck, etc. Lets say another $2M over 40,000 acres = $50/acre x 25% = $12.50
Total machinery cost per acre is $45 + $36 +$25 + $12.50 = $118/acre. That number doesn't include fuel, operator, seed, fertilizer, chemical, land rent, taxes or grain storage costs. That is just the cost of owning and using the equipment they do.
    Farming is an interesting business.

That is pretty good. Now, with avg yields, what is an acre of canola net, less inputs not including machinery>

      @@timgear9892 pubsaskdev.blob.core.windows.net/pubsask-prod/115298/Crop%252BPlanning%252BGuide%252B2020.pdf
There are lots of crops with Return over Total Expenses of $100 or so. Some are negative.
The target yields are top 20%, and you aren't going to get that every year. But Mike and his brothers are probably to 20% operators.
I would think Mike's Machinery Depreciation and Machinery Investment costs are much higher than what are in the guide. The guide assumes 10.7% straight line. New equipment depreciates a lot faster than that and Mike's investment per acre is probably a lot higher than normal. See items 15 and 17 on page 4.

As a guy that details our tractors in the winter time, I dont see the metal on the corner posts as a con. It would be much easier to scrub mud and dirty off the metal than it is to scrub it off of hard and soft plastics, but to each their own. Great video Mike!

We like the second sight gauge on the back because we are always in a different field entrance, some are flat some are not and when we are on an incline or decline, it's nice to be able to make an average of the level between the two when loading, so we don't have to guess how much we are off based on incline/decline.

The R Series Deere sprayers are extremely comfortable and nice to run. They have a fridge and Bluetooth. Extremely smooth riding, between the Case and Deere I would take the Deere every time. All the machines can hold product and pump it out the boom, a lot of it comes down to operator comfort and usability. I have always wanted to try a Hagie but from everyone who has run a front boom I know they said they would never go back to a rear boom.

About the sight tube. I used to like front and back tank sight tube. If the machine was parked in a little incline you can check both tubes to see more accurately the tank level. But with the new digital readout it might not be as necessary.

I remembered Tuesday afternoon that your wedding was going on and you were outside. I was curious so I pulled up the radar over your wedding. I was surprised and confused at what I was seeing. There was a storm with low pressure circulation going on that looked exactly like a hurricane. The way I saw it, that thing should've had an eye-wall. Like I said before, I live in Daytona Beach, I'm in aviation, and I'm very familiar with the structure of hurricanes. I wish I would've video'd the radar image of what I was seeing.

Mike, you don't lose any of your mapping with the Hawkeye, the Accuterminal for the machine is a UT display, so you can just display your Hawkeye UT screen there. Also when you're rinsing, you can can be recirculating your booms to be scrubbing them with your freshwater at the same time. Allows you to clean your tank and boom at the same time.

You would think that with a large purchase your farm is planning on doing for sprayers that these companies would be beating down your door for business. The demos are nice for testing for the time being and you all putting them to work. Totally understand the need for after sales support also being very important. Nothing worse then spending $500K+ on a piece of equipment to then have to spend $1500 for a service call for repair work. Or them nickel/dime you to death for options that should come as standard at these price points. I wish it was easier for you farmers out there!

The reason for the sight tube on the back right hand side is, of your standing on an angle or slope and you want to add an exact amount of liquid, you take the average of both to find your total fluid. It is 180 degrees from the front left side.

A lot of the zerks on the machine would be 10 hour zerks. I could not imagine spraying 20 hours (which I have done before) and greasing over the whole machine at least once but most places twice. • @johntemple8387
    @johntemple8387 4 роки тому +1

Mike, I really like your channel, and please in no way consider this bashing. I keep hearing how much you get in another industry for the price. I think the real problem is ag products have not kept up with the cost of other products. In the 70's corn sold for $2.50-ish a bushel now it is $3.50-ish, I'm sure that is true of the grains you deal in as well. A real nice car or pickup sold for $4,000-ish now it is $40,000-ish and the pickups you just bought probably $70,000.00-ish. If you were getting 10x the 1970's grain price you probably wouldn't worry so much about machinery the price.
Also the volume of production of sprayers is low, and if you want to compare how much volume production changes the cost of manufacturing compare any high volume car to these: Bugatti La Voiture Noire. Price: $12.5 Million, Rolls-Royce Sweptail. Price: $12.8 Million, Bugatti Centodieci. Price: $9 Million, Mercedes-Maybach Exelero. Price: $8 Million, Bugatti Divo. Price: $5.8 Million, Pagani Huayra Imola. Price: $5.4 Million, Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita. Price: $4.8 Million.
I've never even seen any of these models but to me for the price they should literally fly.
By the way I have worked with molded parts for over 40 years and the molding in this dash are are crap! Not bashing just a fact.

    • @bpaul1201awesome
      @bpaul1201awesome 4 роки тому

the price of these sprayers is quite ridiculous though. They cost the same as combines in some cases like the ones Mike is testing. They are fairly straightforward designs, frame, tank, hydraulics, wiring for electronics/sensors, etc and everything is usually exposed and not under a bunch of panels and use a lot of common parts from other products in the companies catalog. They are easier to assemble and build then a tractor or combine. I mean Apache hand makes their sprayers and they are usually $200-300k less then the bigger name brand sprayers. Makes ya wonder how that can be with a low volume production unit, did Apache figure out a secret formula or are the other brands really overcharging?

Surprised mike hasnt talked about a versatile self propelled yet. From what I can tell they are a "cheaper" or more basic sprayer, alot like the Apache. Around 500,000 new capaired to 750,000 like the fancy brands. But I'm gonna guess there isnt a close dealership? Or maybe they just arent good?

Those sprayers are junk. 2 neighbors had them and both didn't make the summer, wiring issues, sensors issues, one had engine problems, def problems, blowing hydraulic lines, broken booms, and other stuff. Apaches are 10x better, thats what we have now.

It may be ridiculous but you will keep on buying something! Farm equipment has inflated much faster than the overall inflation rate, bordering on ridiculous but farmers keep on buying it, financing it and using it, so there’s little incentive for manufacturers to innovate and build better equipment. When it comes right down to it, there’s not much difference between most of them and very little difference in the price. I’m interested to know how AGCO gives you free service? I doubt it’s free, so is it built into the sales price? Service contract? Lease?

Yes built in.. Our Ideals were cheaper with a 5yr/3000hr bumper to bumper warranty, and the first 3 yrs serviced all in our shop, than deere was with the 790s with no extra warranty.

Mike Mitchell - Thanks for the explanation and I understand the thinking, so while your reviews are entertaining and your rants funs, your pro’s and con’s insightful, they really don’t get to the under lying buying decision, price and warranty and maybe reliability? Just curious and not a criticism of your work, because I enjoy the channel, watch every episode and like them all. BTW, congratulation to you and Ashton! Some rain isn’t so bad during a wedding, it hailed during mine, in a steel roofed building!!

Cab is small? Compared to what? Have you ever been in a Case Patriot? RoGator has twice the cab space. It’s like a Living room compared to a closet.

Just buy an Apache and be done with it. In fact compared to the options, you can buy 3 instead of 2 of the other makes. No brainer.

Ok, it is not a “buddy seat” as I have been corrected several times. It is called a “Operators Instructor Seat”. Ha... has to do with insurance reasons by the powers to be for the naming of it... Go figure...
