Hi Mike! Holy crab, this video did the trick. I spent all night trying to flash the BIOS on an MSI B550-A Pro last night and could not get it to work. I thought I'd done everything: USB 2.0 stick, under 32 GB, FAT32, MBR, used Diskpart to clean it, multiple drives… nothing. The one thing in your video I hadn't seen was making sure the volume didn't have a name. Tried that this morning, and am finally getting the BIOS updated on this motherboard. You saved me from going through a stupid RMA! Thank you thank you thank you!
hehe! I just experienced the same frustration! ..but I thought it was the mbr-trick that did it. I wasn't sure if the no-label trick was the solution since I did both..xD
Mike - here's a suggestion - I've seen this many times - in DISKPART you do a LIST DISK then "guess" or "hope you get lucky" in determining what disk # your flash is. Get it wrong and do a CLEAN and you have a bad "oops" moment. Easy fix - start w/o the drive you want to clean plugged in. Do a LIST DISK - note the disk #'s present. Plug in drive to be cleaned, give it a few seconds to be recognized then do a LIST DISK again (up arrow, enter). There will be a disk # now present that wasn't present before - that is guaranteed to be your target drive.
Wanted to say thank you so much for this! The only USB drive I had kicking around was a small 2GB one that had clearly been through the trenches over the years. My new MSI board refused to recognize it properly with basic formatting. Your instructions fixed it, first go. Bios now updating away nicely! New to your channel and now a definite subscriber :)
Thanks for posting this video. It saved me from buying a new motherboard. I had given up all hope of saving it and then I came across your video and I watched it from end to end, following your step-by-step instructions as I was watching and the bios finally updated. Great stuff! Keep it up!
Just got an MSI MPG x570 Gaming Plus and was experiencing the CPU error indicator issue with a Ryzen 9 5900x, and I was finally able to update the BIOS after trying the second method in your tutorial. Thanks so much!
I have wasted 400 quid on a new mobile, cpu and ram and am thinking of giving up and reinstalling the previous 7 year old mobo. I am sick and tired and just want the pile of shit to work.
Just gonna leave this here for anyone who was searching like me: IF you have a Gigabyte A320M-S2H board and you’re looking to update to F55, (Or any new version past F40) you NEED to update to version F32 beforehand as there was a major update to allow for better BIOS updates for all future versions. Hope this helps and this video is a big help with teaching you about partitioning :)
Just one more person who wants to thank you for this video. The detail about converting to MBR finally got it working for me. Thanks for saving me from a crazy support ticket.
I can't thank you enough! I've used this exact USB drive for flashing MSI bios before, and without your videos I would have no idea what the problem is. After using your diskpart method it worked like a charm. Thanks again.
I can't believe, that worked :) :). I have a 64GB USB stick. After following all the steps from the video, I created a 16GB (16384 MB) partition and put the renamed BIOS file in there. This is necessary because you can't use a USB that has more than 32GB. Hope this may help someone. Cheers!!!

BEST VIDEO ON THE CASE BEWARE!!!!! THE NEWEST BIOS UPDATE FOR EDGE WIFI DDR4 (version 7D31v19) did NOT work for me. Instead version 7D31v18 was recognized and it now boots with my 13th gen
As a long time ASUS user & since their USB BIOS FlashBack (board only, 1 touch) of 2012, Even though their early manuals were not so clear. You do need to use the "white" USB. (something to do w/ being legacy USB-2.0 & priority boot) & then a proper BIOS file name specific to that board. Or it grabs it from DVD if inserted. In my experiences, ASUS in EZ-Flash mode doesn't allow older roll back but it will in USB flashback when needed. If motherboard is still being finicky, I look to use a quality USB-2.0 of a smaller size (4-8g) & on 1st USB-2.0 slot if none specific for your flashback. Make sure to find 1 w/ active LED indicator. This will help.
Altay Altun Thanks for the feedback! Please consider sharing the video and information on your social media, it really helps to get the message out there.
Thanks man. Been saving for a while and got my new pc parts all together, just waiting on a cpu. Been putting off using the bios flashback as I am not the luckiest person around and I am kind of nervous lol. Just watched your guide and went through the steps to prepare my usb stick and feel more confident of it working now. One thing I have done is use a usb with an indicator light on it. Being able to see the light flashing when the data is being read might be handy when installing the bios.😀
I’m not sure if this is something I did stupid, because I learn as I go with PCs on UA-cam. This video didn’t work, however I stopped doing what you suggested in this video and the other for the update file. This last time I did not change the file name to “MSI.ROM” and left it as what’s downloaded from the website. That finally worked. Before it would not show anything other than the volume information and would not recognize the file. MSI B550 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi board with Ryzen 9 5950X.
This really helped as any other video before. I was having problem with my usb. It's weird because i used same usb some days ago without any inconvenience but.. maybe it was damaged after create a usb bootable with windows 10.. anyways, thank you very much dude!

Do I need to do these or is going to F61 as it says on PCpartpicker good enough? And the other question: Do I need to do the stuff outlined in this video or can I just follow the instructions on your regular how to update gigabyte bios video? Hello, I have a question! I don't have such problems like those for what the video is about but I have just used your instructions to format my USB flash drive and to use it clean for BIOS update. I have used CMD and diskpart to clean it and I have also converted it to MBR. My question is - since my current BIOS is UEFI and I want to flash a previous version of it, will that USB flashdrive work for flashing the BIOS as it is MBR now? Also does the USB 2.0 version of the flashdrive and the 2.0 port on the mobo matter for BIOS flashing?

Thank you sooo soo much. I bought a 64gb stick for the initial process but it couldn't be formatted in FAT32 which I didn't know before. Your video helped me get through this process. Thanks!!!
Glad I could help
Well my drive was in fat32 format. Now it's not. Not available at all. Your method broke my drive. Now I can't flash my bios, good stuff 👍
Sorry to hear that. i am more than willing to try and resolve the problem
It did the same to me....
Really starting to second guess his abilities here. How do I know that his BIOS flash button video is right? Why risk bricking my mobo when he can't even format a USB drive.
thank you so much for this, save me a lot of headache and RMAs being sent back. got a subscription from me! thanks again
Thanks for the sub!
this is so helpful thank you sir. i followed the asrock manual and they didn't even mentioned to partition the disk into mbr format. I followed everything on the manual and it didn't worked it until i saw your video. thanks again. really helpful
Glad I could help
this man is a life savior
this seriously worked, i never thought it would work. great video man.
Thanks for watching and commenting
your fix worked for me as well, Mike! thank you so much! fingers crossed that i can get my B-650P to post... 🤞🏿

OMG dude i love you, in italy right now is 1:40am and im tryimng to update the bios of my mobo since 3:15 pm and now it`s finally working, i was literally crying couse i tought i broke the mobo or sum, thank you very much
You are most welcome! Glad you got it working :-)
THANK YOU! this worked. thought I bricked my brand new asus board

YOU ARE A GOD. SOLVE MY PROBLEM WITH THIS VIDEO AND AFTER I NEEDED TO CLEAN THE MBR OF THE PENDRIVE
glad to help
very helpful
It helps a lot.
I've tried many times. The white light blinks continuously and steadily.
I think it's broken.
That's because the usb doesn't work.
Try another usb or a slightly older bios
Bless videos like these. turns out I was using an old 8gb usb that was previously formatted as a boot drive. Windows only saw it as a 256mb even after formatting..... I just grabbed a generic 1gb stick that had never been formatted for another use, gave it Fat 32 treatment and it worked. Updated in 2 minutes.
You are HERO, savior... Can't thank u enough!
I thought my mobo is broken, but you fixed!
Glad I could help!
You saved my life. Thank you. I was about to send the motherboard back to the shop since the flash button process seemed to not recognize my usb drive hahah
glad it helped
Thanks Mike! Late video! I like it!
Thanks buddy
Four hours of banging my head against a wall, found this, problem solved. Countless webpages and forums and this was the only time I saw this fix mentioned. For me it was on an ASROCK board from 2011. Plus, getting to relive the DOS glory days...priceless ;)
glad it helped you
BEST VIDEO ON THE CASE
BEWARE!!!!! THE NEWEST BIOS UPDATE FOR EDGE WIFI DDR4 (version 7D31v19) did NOT work for me. Instead version 7D31v18 was recognized and it now boots with my 13th gen
thanks for the info
Hi Mike i have a question should i do the Datei in the Order. Fromm the USB Stick ? LG
Sorry I don’t understand why you are asking
Wow thank you so much. I’ve been looking for a solution for about 4 hours now and finally this fixed it and I could install the bios firmware.
Glad I could help
Thank you so much man. I tried so many thing but they did not work, but this video solved my problem. SUPER USEFULL

Great video! Using Diskpart to format the drive definitely solved mine with an Asrock TRX40 Creative. Thanks!
Great to hear!
You Sir, are a steely eye missile man. Worked a treat
Glad I could help
@@mikesunboxingThanks mate!
Super smashed that sub button, you did the trick on my MSI b450m gaming plus. I can't thank you enough.

This video just saved me. Hours and hours of trouble. I typed in GIGABYTE.BIN
I had bin capitalized so it wouldn't work
glad to help
Hello, great video I just have one problem, I don’t have a windows laptop. Only Mac. Will that be a problem? Am I able to do this on a MacBook?
yes you can
I’m not sure if this is something I did stupid, because I learn as I go with PCs on UA-cam. This video didn’t work, however I stopped doing what you suggested in this video and the other for the update file. This last time I did not change the file name to “MSI.ROM” and left it as what’s downloaded from the website. That finally worked. Before it would not show anything other than the volume information and would not recognize the file. MSI B550 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi board with Ryzen 9 5950X.
however you got there, at least it worked out in the end.
Wow it worked i have a gigabyte mother and my usb was not recognised by my bios now its working ❤
Glad to hear that!
This really helped as any other video before. I was having problem with my usb. It's weird because i used same usb some days ago without any inconvenience but.. maybe it was damaged after create a usb bootable with windows 10.. anyways, thank you very much dude!
bless you
Man you just saved my life! I was getting desperate! Quick trick, great explanation and it worked straight away! I've been in this agony for hours! Thank you, really!
thanks, have a great weekend
thanks a lot man u help me in big problem .. i was lost before i find ur video
Glad I could help
Thanks very much for this - I was struggling to get the USB to recognise for ages and tried everything but the thing that did it for me was not giving it a volume label!
Hi Mike, you saved my Day!
After this Throubleshooting, my new GBT Board works perfectly with the new i5-13600K
Thank you very much and best Regards from Germany
You are welcome!
Thank you. Fixed my Problem on an Asrock board.
I'm planning to update my bios on my gigabyte b450 elite from F51 to F61 so that it will be able to use my new 5600x. I had just two quick questions: There are newer updates than F61. Do I need to do these or is going to F61 as it says on PCpartpicker good enough?
And the other question: Do I need to do the stuff outlined in this video or can I just follow the instructions on your regular how to update gigabyte bios video? Like what happens if I do have this issue and then cant update the BIOS I would just use another computer to reformat the drive and try again? Thanks for any replies!

Yep MBR formating saved the day! Took me 2h to do different stuff...
Just flashed the MSI B550 carbon wifi bios with this method, flashback and usb pendrive 16 gb 2.0! No problem!
Glad it helped :-)
@@mikesunboxing Thank you sir!
Thank you so much from egypt , you rock man , mbr trick fixed it for me.
thanks for letting me know
This video saved my new motherboard! Thank you!

Also does the USB 2.0 version of the flashdrive and the 2.0 port on the mobo matter for BIOS flashing?
the flash rom part of the board is not UEFI or BIOS / MBR it is it's own "thing" and the motherboards settings don't effect it at all
@@mikesunboxing I see, so I can safely flash my BIOS with that USB flashdrive.
Thank you very much!
thank you thank you thank youuu i was thinking of returning my motherboard but ur video saved me
glad to help
After finishing my pc build this worked thank you. You helped me save so much money and time
glad to help
You can also check in disk management if your drive is already in MBR format
good point
DUDE, THANK YOU.. I CONVERTED IT TO MBR AND IT STARTED MY PC.. SEEMS TO BE UPDATING.
HOPING FOR THE BEST.
Best of luck!
@@mikesunboxing I'm stuck.. Pc is idle and nothing is coming up on the monitor. It's flashing red on vga and boot.. Oof

You're welcome 😊
hello I hope you're doing great! I have the same motherboard and I have followed all of your steps and after my 3rd attempt I still get a solid red. What are suggestions on what I should do? Does mean the actual drive is not compatible at all and need to get a new one? Because the one I have is brand new. Hopefully you can help I need this pc running for school
sorry for the bad grammar
yeah try another drive and triple check the bios is the right one
If I may say so, I love you... Been trying various versions and sticks for 3 hours.. now it worked instantly.. I will now always perform this little trick just to be sure it will work 🥰
Great to hear!
@@mikesunboxing yeah sadly it didn't fix the main problem apparently, the bios update takes ages, had one running for 14 hours and nothing happend :/ at least the stick now gets recognized:/

Thanks buddy appreciate it any flashing due in your setup?
hi, i am writing to you from italy, i have a problem: i bought a ryzen 7 5700g which is mounted on a gigabyte aorus b450m i pro wifi, which does not have the qflash button.
Does this method allow me to flash / update even without this button?
A thousand thanks.
I sign up immediately.
if there is no flash button you will need to use an older cpu or apu to get into the bios to flash for newer chips
This solved my problem!! A huge thank you!
Was getting solid red light on this board.
Formatting to mbr did the trick! 🙌🏼
Great to hear!
Thanks that actually helped me. I also created a 32gb partition when using the windows disk part since I had a 64gb drive so I don’t have to go and buy another flash drive

When I had my computer built I have two data drives were set up as 'hot swappable'. I want to change them to 'non-hot swappable.
My motherboard has the 'quick setup' and the 'easy' setup which gives you more control to the settings.
The motherboard was put in about 2 months ago and it is:
Board: ASRock Z690 Steel Legend
I don't want to go digging around and mess something up.
it won't make any difference to windows whichever way it is set in the bios from what i have found
