I have been using this board for a while now, got it for a steal as part of a bundle deal which made me seriously question if it was gonna be as good as it is. Turns out, this board is GREAT, especially at the price point. Just checked this video because I wasn't sure if the second m.2 slot was PCIe 3 or 4, so thanks for the info, your format and presentation is awesome and saved me the hassle of digging out my mb packaging and manual for the info I needed!
@@superduper2024 it still runs like a dream, I use it mostly for streaming and gaming so not sure what it's like for other applications but I can tell you it is smooth as butter for every game I've run on it including TW:WH3 and Baldur's Gate 3 which are both resource whores. It's in a fully AMD system which I can recommend wholeheartedly
@@Veklim thanks for replying , i recently switched to AMD, after being most intel all my life, Bought a gygabyte a520 but died on my just after 2 months, so i was looking for other options and found out this one to be the most complete for less than 100 dlls , while including VRM and M2 heatsinks and WIFI.

AFAIK USB doesn't support more than 3 key presses at once, so therefor using the PS/2 for keyboards can be an advantage. Or simply if you own such an old keyboard. The VGA is a no-brainer, you can get dirt cheap monitors with VGA. It's great for small 7-10" screen to watch TV on for instance.
@ 2:13 - Before assembly, take notice to the numbers found on the sticker- on the 24 pin power socket. Drove me crazy trying to register my product w/o knowing where to find the code.( I forget what the code was called, I think it was a 3 digit #) Finally when I did figure it out, it was after I assembled the PC. Had to use an inspection mirror to read it! MSI making you jump through hoops, just to register the product! (My M-B is a Pro B550 V-C)
My motherboard is coming next week and it's the last component I need to build my first PC! I've been freaking out trying to study about it so that when it gets here the build will go as smooth as possible. Guess I gotta take a look at that online manual lol..

That would be a solid build! I have a similar build but with a 5600G and with that I can get great fps on medium to max settings (depending on the game) at 1080p.
Great and elaborative video for the motherboard. I just have one query: At 16 minute 30 second timestamp, you were talking about upgrading the WiFi connectivity thing through the M.2 slot. I currently uses the antenna and they aren’t pretty fast. So, I guess if you can help me in setting up the extra WiFi option, then it will boost the capacity by a bit. Also, you told to use the second and fourth stick when using dual RAMs, what about if we are using 3 RAMs, is there any specific configuration in which we can maximise the output ?
Check out my video on adding wifi to an AsRock motherboard. The solution I used there was pretty fast. Also with wifi 7 out keep an eye out for those cards.

Check out the drives from this list. It's blu ray which covers CD burning. They are external and I've filtered by brand: LG, ASUS, and Pioneer (brands I trust), so you can dodge the odd named brands that Amazon tends to have. Hi, You won't need to buy new fans. 3-pin fans can work in the 4-pin pwm slot, they just won't be PWM, meaning you can't really control the speeds by software. I believe they are called voltage controlled fans, which you can control in the BIOS. so PWM, 4-pin, headers have a keyed portion and 3-pin fans can slot into them. I wonder if the lettering means anything? I was looking at a Pro B55 MC, I happen to Own a Pro B550 VC, this video is looking at the Pro B550 VDH. I think when it says Pro, Aesthetically the unit should fit a work environment. the Pro B550 MC is 'old school', OEM green Motherboard. My Pro B550 V-C is Black with mild accents to the build and minimal lettering.Although, it leaves no doubt, who the manufacturer is. It has 'MSI' printed five times, if you include the GPU. (another pet peeve, one of the printed "MSI"s is a different font. Back to the subject, I would guess 'Pro B550 MC', might refer to Machine Class?(thinking Business/office application) My Pro B550 VC could be Video Creation?(thinking Content Creators) I'm just wondering what VDH could stand for.

Do you meant 5600G? There's not 5500G that I saw. Regardless, the bits will work together well. If you're just relying on integrated graphics, your gaming experience will not be the most amazing, but it will do. Having said that do not expect to play Cyberpunk at good framerates if at all. More casual gaming should be alright. I def recommend going for a 500 - 1TB NVMe if you can afford it as you'll want more storage for games on top of the OS. They'll all be compatible with Win 11, so you're sorted there. If you can, save up for a discrete GPU for a future purchase so you can have a better gaming experience.
Hello, I am writing again. My motherboard arrived and I am wondering what screwdriver would I need for the m.2 screws. And also my board has a sticker "5000 ready", does it mean I do not need to flash the BIOS? Also really nice video, definitely gonna help me for when im building my PC
Correct, you do not need to update the BIOS for your 5000 series CPU. If you're using a 5000G series, I want to say you won't need to update either. A standard Philips head screwdriver should do you fine for the m.2 drives. Just don't over-torque them so you don't strip the screws. If you have a multi-bit screwdriver with bigger and smaller Philips bits, this might help you.
Got the Wi-Fi version for about $93 a few weeks ago - seems like a great board, for the price. I plan to use it along with a cheap used R5 3600x and a spare GTX 1660S I have on hand to make a budget gaming PC for my sister.
does this motherboard have stereo audio? like would I be able to hear players on my left or right because the motherboard I currently have doesn't do that
I have the board installed with the Tecware Eclipse 240 AIO, which includes a 9-pin connector for the 2.0 USB header. While it receives power, it's unable to transmit data to the AIO, resulting in the LCD display remaining stuck on the default setting. I'm unable to change the display or GIF. Ports, cables, and headers checked to no avail.
I wish you had done the MSI PRO B550M-VC WIFI, instead, the one you're doing has been done to death. I think the VC is a better board than the VDH, but no one has reviewed it, can't figure out why ! I am looking to buy one very soon and need more info besides what I can extrapolate myself. Edit: You did not mention this board at the end as a possible alternative within that $$ range ?!
@@MiddleofKnowhere Understood, did not know the release date(s). It's just difficult when trying to find a good (and inexpensive) Home Media Server board. Not much data out there that is not running a Xeon (used) processor on a Supermicro board that's not cheap. The way that you do your reviews are thorough, concise, giving very relevant data. Unfortunately I can't say the same for most other review channels, of which most are focused on "Gaming", which is very weird to me as I can use one gaming rig and will need two maybe three servers. Anyway, thanks for your detailed and very professional videos !

Hi, i want to buy second SSD 500gb i found some ssd's but i am not sure that i can use with this motherboard. So what you recommend for second SSD(500gb)?
If you have the wifi version it should connect. make sure it's that version and not the non-wifi version. After that, make sure your drivers were installed when you installed windows. Go to device manager to see if it's there. If it's not, you may need to connect an ethernet cord temporarily to download drivers.
@@MiddleofKnowhere yes, it’s the wifi version that came in as a bundle. It has the wifi connectors on the io. Where do I find these drivers? Cause I already updated the bios and still no sign of adapter in device manager and Bluetooth is also saying “generic Bluetooth device error code 43”.

I do actually. With the 5600 and B550 you'll get PCIe 4.0 capabilities for the M.2 slots and NVMe drives. The 5500 IIRC doesn't have PCIe 4.0 lanes available to it so storage will be slower. Also it all depends on your use case as well. If you want to go for more demanding gaming or tasks, I think the 5600 is a better CPU. If your goal though is to save money go for the 5500 + b450. OR 5500 + B550 and upgrade the CPU later to take advantage of the features the board and a higher tier 5000 series CPU will offer.
Which power suply shall i get with this? I want power supply to have all compatiable cables to connect to board nd with graphics card gtx 1650 or gtx1660
What CPU will you be using? Based on that GPU, you could probably go with a 500-650 Watt PSU. I always encourage to go for higher wattage though so that as your system grows, it's one component you don't have to upgrade. So for instance if in the future, you plan to get a 4070 or equivalent GPU and a 7800X3D then a 750 watt PSU would probably work.
okay. This motherboard is AMD only so you'd need an intel socketed motherboard for the 12400F. Check out the Ryzen 5 5600 over the 5600G. It's a bit better and shouldn't be much more money.
The 5600 doesn't have integrated. The 5600G will though, but you'll miss out on some features by going with the 5600G over the 5600 such as PCIe 4.0 for storage (5600G only has 3.0) and then the PCIe x16 slot will become 3.0 as well. If you don't need the integrated graphics go for the 5600. Otherwise, the 5600G is your best bet.
I just bought this motherboard but I have an issue. The USB 3.2 Gen 1 90 degree angle is next to a part of the case that cannot let me to plug it. Is there a way to use it?
i have this board and already a 3.0 m,2 installed on the top slot, ijust got a gen 4 m.2. i wanted to ask if ican just swap the slot of the current m.2 from top to bottom and install the new gen4 m.2 in the top one? will i have to format the older one or windows will read that one as OS drive automatically?
You can swap slots yes and then in the bios you can choose the boot order and choose to have the lower m.2 slot be the OS. It might also just recognize the boot drive automatically.
Which BIOS version did you download? Did you manage to unzip the file and put it on a USB drive before flashing? Find out your current BIOS version then download the most current, non-beta version. Be sure to follow MSI's instructions as different motherboard makers have different methods.
thank you for your videos, doing my 1st build to get back into pcs after 15+ years. only thing i cant make up my mind is what MB to go with. im doing a 5600x cpu and rx 6600 gpu. but with MB im in the air with this or the MSI B550-A Pro. every thing im looking at says this is better then the b550 a pro, but its like $30 cheaper and that just doesn't make scene to me

I'm on the fence with getting this mobo as I'm seeing so many reviews online about it crashing. I'm wondering if the board itself is bad in general or if the batch that was sold at the time was bad. I'm planning my first ever pc build so I'm having trouble deciding a board.
interesting. I hadn't seen reviews about it crashing a lot. I can say from my experience with the build I did with it, I had no issues. I was able to update the BIOS easily, make the build and get Windows installed with no issue as well as play games. What did the reviews say was causing the crash? It could have been a pre-release BIOS causing the issues.

It seems like alot of people with processors that have "3000"(3700X and others) have this problem, but others with the same processors are not. It's really making it difficult to pick a budget b550 board.

Hi, this all depends and there are 3 methods: 1. Connecting your fans directly to the motherboard and downloading MSI's Mystic Light software. 2. Your fans have proprietary software you can use like Corsair's iCue, but these fans will also be connected to a hub of some sort which is then SATA powered and USB 2.0 data controlled. 3. the fans have a remote control like UpHere or AsiaHorse fans. Hope that helps.
@@MRHARDCOREGAMINGCORONATION If you're asking how to control the aRGB on your CPU cooler, it should use the same 3-pin aRGB header as any other aRGB fan, so you should be able to use the same software.
Hi! I'm planning on purchasing this motherboard for my build but ive seen a lot of scary reviews on amazon about it boot looping on ryzen 5000 series cpus. I'm pairing it with a 5 5600 (non x) and im scared i will encounter the same problem. Do you still use this mobo and is it still working fine? Thanks
Hi, I used a Ryzen 3 3100 with this mobo, and I sold the build, so I couldn't speak to longevity issues. I will say for the 10's of hours I used it updating, testing games, etc. I never had any issues with boot looping. If you're unsure about this motherboard consider the B550M Aorus Pro-P from gigabyte as an alternative.
It will and as Guerra said you MAY need to update the bios for it to work unless the board came with a later version and has a “Ryzen 5000 ready” sticker on it.
PCIe 4.0 speeds for the GPU and at least one nvme slot. Faster speeds on the nvme can be very important to specific users. The PCIe 4.0 for the GPU maybe not as much since even 3.0 wasn't saturated by current gen GPUs. Ryzen 5000 CPU usage should be available for b450 with a BIOS update so that advantage was mitigated. Also more B550 boards have USB Type-C in the front and back than B450 did.
i heard you need to update firmware so you can use ryzen 5 5600g.... my question is.. example.. when you replace the cmos battery in due time.. the bios will reset.,, and since it will reset because of cmos is not installed.. my question is.. does the firmware update also reset? or do you need to update again firmware so you can use again ryzen 5 5600g.?
Great question. The bios setting will reset but the version will not if there makes sense. Basically if you set xmp for your ram or overclock the cpu and then clear cmos or remove the cmos battery those settings revert back to factory. If you’ve updated from bios version 1 to 2 and clear cmos you will still be on bios version 2. Hope that helps!

Aside from the registration, and the cheap I/O shield, I really like my Motherboard.
I got a combo deal from Microcenter with a 5600X and this motherboard for $219. I thought this board would suck but it's actually not bad at all.

Do you meant 5600G? There's not 5500G that I saw. Regardless, the bits will work together well. If you're just relying on integrated graphics, your gaming experience will not be the most amazing, but it will do. Having said that do not expect to play Cyberpunk at good framerates if at all. More casual gaming should be alright. I def recommend going for a 500 - 1TB NVMe if you can afford it as you'll want more storage for games on top of the OS. They'll all be compatible with Win 11, so you're sorted there. If you can, save up for a discrete GPU for a future purchase so you can have a better gaming experience.

I believe so yes. The non-wifi version may have allocated the wifi lanes elsewhere so do look at that.

Hello, I am writing again. My motherboard arrived and I am wondering what screwdriver would I need for the m.2 screws. And also my board has a sticker "5000 ready", does it mean I do not need to flash the BIOS? Also really nice video, definitely gonna help me for when im building my PC
Correct, you do not need to update the BIOS for your 5000 series CPU. If you're using a 5000G series, I want to say you won't need to update either. A standard Philips head screwdriver should do you fine for the m.2 drives. Just don't over-torque them so you don't strip the screws. If you have a multi-bit screwdriver with bigger and smaller Philips bits, this might help you.

Got the Wi-Fi version for about $93 a few weeks ago - seems like a great board, for the price. I plan to use it along with a cheap used R5 3600x and a spare GTX 1660S I have on hand to make a budget gaming PC for my sister.

I have the board installed with the Tecware Eclipse 240 AIO, which includes a 9-pin connector for the 2.0 USB header. While it receives power, it's unable to transmit data to the AIO, resulting in the LCD display remaining stuck on the default setting. I'm unable to change the display or GIF. Ports, cables, and headers checked to no avail.

Yes you can upgrade your cpu from say a 5800x to a 5950x which is a Ryzen 7 to 9 change.

Understood, did not know the release date(s). It's just difficult when trying to find a good (and inexpensive) Home Media Server board. Not much data out there that is not running a Xeon (used) processor on a Supermicro board that's not cheap.
The way that you do your reviews are thorough, concise, giving very relevant data. Unfortunately I can't say the same for most other review channels, of which most are focused on "Gaming", which is very weird to me as I can use one gaming rig and will need two maybe three servers.

Do I need to get a wifi adapter? The wifi on this board doesn’t connect or anything it asks me to connect a Ethernet cord
If you have the wifi version it should connect. make sure it's that version and not the non-wifi version. After that, make sure your drivers were installed when you installed windows. Go to device manager to see if it's there. If it's not, you may need to connect an ethernet cord temporarily to download drivers.
@@MiddleofKnowhere yes, it’s the wifi version that came in as a bundle. It has the wifi connectors on the io. Where do I find these drivers? Cause I already updated the bios and still no sign of adapter in device manager and Bluetooth is also saying “generic Bluetooth device error code 43”.

I do actually. With the 5600 and B550 you'll get PCIe 4.0 capabilities for the M.2 slots and NVMe drives. The 5500 IIRC doesn't have PCIe 4.0 lanes available to it so storage will be slower. Also it all depends on your use case as well. If you want to go for more demanding gaming or tasks, I think the 5600 is a better CPU. If your goal though is to save money go for the 5500 + b450. OR 5500 + B550 and upgrade the CPU later to take advantage of the features the board and a higher tier 5000 series CPU will offer.

What CPU will you be using? Based on that GPU, you could probably go with a 500-650 Watt PSU. I always encourage to go for higher wattage though so that as your system grows, it's one component you don't have to upgrade. So for instance if in the future, you plan to get a 4070 or equivalent GPU and a 7800X3D then a 750 watt PSU would probably work.

okay. This motherboard is AMD only so you'd need an intel socketed motherboard for the 12400F. Check out the Ryzen 5 5600 over the 5600G. It's a bit better and shouldn't be much more money.

The 5600 doesn't have integrated. The 5600G will though, but you'll miss out on some features by going with the 5600G over the 5600 such as PCIe 4.0 for storage (5600G only has 3.0) and then the PCIe x16 slot will become 3.0 as well. If you don't need the integrated graphics go for the 5600. Otherwise, the 5600G is your best bet.
I just bought this motherboard but I have an issue.
The USB 3.2 Gen 1 90 degree angle is next to a part of the case that cannot let me to plug it. Is there a way to use it?

i have this board and already a 3.0 m,2 installed on the top slot, ijust got a gen 4 m.2. i wanted to ask if ican just swap the slot of the current m.2 from top to bottom and install the new gen4 m.2 in the top one? will i have to format the older one or windows will read that one as OS drive automatically?
You can swap slots yes and then in the bios you can choose the boot order and choose to have the lower m.2 slot be the OS.
It might also just recognize the boot drive automatically.

Which BIOS version did you download? Did you manage to unzip the file and put it on a USB drive before flashing? Find out your current BIOS version then download the most current, non-beta version. Be sure to follow MSI's instructions as different motherboard makers have different methods.

It will operate at PCIe 3.0 speeds instead of 4.0. That's pretty much it.

I'm on the fence with getting this mobo as I'm seeing so many reviews online about it crashing. I'm wondering if the board itself is bad in general or if the batch that was sold at the time was bad. I'm planning my first ever pc build so I'm having trouble deciding a board.
interesting. I hadn't seen reviews about it crashing a lot. I can say from my experience with the build I did with it, I had no issues. I was able to update the BIOS easily, make the build and get Windows installed with no issue as well as play games. What did the reviews say was causing the crash? It could have been a pre-release BIOS causing the issues.

It seems like alot of people with processors that have "3000"(3700X and others) have this problem, but others with the same processors are not. Hi, this all depends and there are 3 methods: 1. Connecting your fans directly to the motherboard and downloading MSI's Mystic Light software. 2. Your fans have proprietary software you can use like Corsair's iCue, but these fans will also be connected to a hub of some sort which is then SATA powered and USB 2.0 data controlled. 3. the fans have a remote control like UpHere or AsiaHorse fans.

Hi, I used a Ryzen 3 3100 with this mobo, and I sold the build, so I couldn't speak to longevity issues. I will say for the 10's of hours I used it updating, testing games, etc. I never had any issues with boot looping. If you're unsure about this motherboard consider the B550M Aorus Pro-P from gigabyte as an alternative.

PCIe 4.0 speeds for the GPU and at least one nvme slot. Faster speeds on the nvme can be very important to specific users. The PCIe 4.0 for the GPU maybe not as much since even 3.0 wasn't saturated by current gen GPUs. Ryzen 5000 CPU usage should be available for b450 with a BIOS update so that advantage was mitigated. Also more B550 boards have USB Type-C in the front and back than B450 did.

i heard you need to update firmware so you can use ryzen 5 5600g.... my question is.. example.. when you replace the cmos battery in due time.. the bios will reset.,, and since it will reset because of cmos is not installed.. my question is.. does the firmware update also reset? or do you need to update again firmware so you can use again ryzen 5 5600g.?
Great question. The bios setting will reset but the version will not if there makes sense. Basically if you set xmp for your ram or overclock the cpu and then clear cmos or remove the cmos battery those settings revert back to factory. If you’ve updated from bios version 1 to 2 and clear cmos you will still be on bios version 2. Hope that helps!
