Family friend was a crew cheif out of California, he served quite a while, I’m joining in a few months when I get fit, hopefully I can be a crew cheif if the position is available! Dealing with the recruiter is like pulling teeth though.

Don’t take no for a answer. Even with my guaranteed enlistment job, the MEPS recruiter tried to trick me into a different job. I stuck to my guns and said well i guess i’ll call my parents back to pick me up. The recruiter got huffy and said hold on for a minute and I’ll make a phone call. He came back and verified I could have my guaranteed job in the Air Force after all. They’re sneaky bastards watch out. former SSGT USAF ATC.

jc1701 can I become a gunner in this mos?

    • @johnbrady1211

@@backinblood3218 The Crew Chief is one of the door gunners. Usually an 11B or another Crew Chief mans the gun on the other side. That's how It was in the 1/17 Air Cav. There is no MOS for Black Hawk door gunner.
Also you have to have high GT scores, especially in things mechanical, to be recruited as a 15T. The Crew Chief is responsible for making sure the bird doesn't fall out of the sky.

I will be joining the US Army in a week. I am extremely excited because I have chosen to be a 15T (UH60 Helicopter Repairer). I can't wait to live this life!

I would love to be a pilot but I was one point off on on line scores so they cut me. I am now having to join as a 68W (Combat Medic) with an airborne contract and I'll be joining the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment!

I put the first Black Hawks into service at Ft. Bragg. 1/17th Cav, C troop, 82nd Abn Div. The mos was 67t then. I started as a 67n. (Huey's) What people who are not directly involved is that the helicopter is the Crew Chief's. Pilots come and go, switch aircraft but the Crew Chief's name is on the log book. He flys in his aircraft every time it goes up. No one knows that particular bird as well as its Crew Chief. I practically lived in my bird when I helped put those first "A" models into service.
The Crew Chief does a more extensive daily inspection than the pilots pre-flight. He does any maintenance on it and monitors any other technicians that work on any part of the aircraft. Avionics, rotor blades, whatever. We have to make sure all timed inspections are done, take fuel and oil samples to make sure all is OK.
It might be different these days with the newer "L" and "M" models. Back then, we had to do 10 hour inspections on the intake particle separators among other closely spaced inspections."A" models were falling out of the sky in alarming numbers due to system failures. 21 "little black boxes" scared the shit out us guys that migrated from Huey's to Black Hawks. On Huey's, you can see all the mechanical parts. (You old school guys remember what it's like in the "hell hole") You can inspect and check all mechanical parts but you can never tell when or if a black box failure would occur. Birds were looping or rolling over into the ground. I was lucky. I had a pretty good bird. Well, I did have an engine control module fail once with a fully equipped squad of ARRPs on board. Happened on a flight from Bragg to Camp Blending. Thank God I had a great pilot. The failure was intermittent and causing the engines to rev up and down causing the tail to swing almost 90 degrees left and right. The pilot shut the engines down and auto-rotated in to a cow pasture. Like today, we wore a body harness attached to a hard point in the helicopter and I was shuffling left and right trying to help guide us down. We quickly isolated the problem, off loaded the ARRPs, and flew it the rest of the way to Camp Blending, Fla. on one engine! Greatly increased respect for my aircraft.
I have great respect for almost all the pilots that flew my aircraft. And the pilots in my troop returned it in kind to me. Only once was I disrespected by a pilot from a different unit. Sometimes we flew with an assistant Crew Chief so we could man the M60d's on either side of the aircraft.
Respect to all the CCs on flight status on UH-60s. From someone who helped work the bugs out of the first 'Hawks to make them safer for the next generation.

I assume you mean the big grey thing just inside the sliding door, that's a patient carousel. They can load up to 4 patients on there for transport.
