Daniel McCafferty, the lead vocalist for Nazareth. Passed away November 8th 2022.! Just last month! To this day, I've never heard anyone hit those notes that he did in the studio that day!! It's absolutely remarkable .... He will be missed. "Miss Misery" is kickass !!!! AND OF COURSE, HAIR OF THE DOG !!!! 🌹

Yes! "Hair of the Dog" (1975) is the only other song by them I remember hearing regularly on US radio back then. Plus, it has a cowbell and a talkbox, so they should like it.
I don't care how many times I hear this I still get those goosebumps from my head too my feet it's crazy!!! A never ending classic, great to this day! OOOO that guitar solo though
I love this song. I think all seventy babies do. My husband and I have such a huge collection of all the seventy ' s music. We have hundreds of c.d.s albums, 45s,cassettes and 8 tracks. One of my favorite songs from the seventy's is Time in a bottle by Jim Croce. It is a beautiful song he wrote for his son right before his plane wrecked
Yup! I am from Hawaii and DH is from Bama and we have what is basically a double collection of the same music. We have vinyls, cassettes, reel to reel, 8 tracks, CDs and digital copies. AND since we were a career Army family we hauled the music around the world and back again. We had the best music growing up (got to pull from the 50s, 60s, 70s & 80s with a few "modern" artists sprinkled in).
@@mj95b I had all my Dad's reel to reels and his reel to reel players too. I gave them to my nephew when Daddy passed. He got the players working and listened to a bunch that we sang on as kids and sent to Daddy when he was stationed over seas. It's pretty cool. Me and Charlie were Daddy's pets lol.
Nazareth are from the town of Dunfermline in Scotland. The lead singer is Dan McCafferty. The band usually featured one or two covers per album and had an uncanny knack of making those covers sound better than the original. Their cover of Joni Mitchell's 'This Flight Tonight' is a prime example.
as one who never appreciated Joni's talent until I saw her with a back up band of the top jazz musicians (Pat Metheney Lyle Mays Jaco Pastorius) then listening to more of her catalog tho I like Nazareth's cover I wouldn't say Nazareth's cover is better than her. Same with CSNY cover of Woodstock - the live rendition in studio with Joni at piano is stellar
wow', I didn't know that', and it's one of my favorites, must of listened to it several several times on here UA-cam, and millions of times on cassette throughout my life'.
This era was the “ singers who can really sing” time. Where did that go? This is a fantastic song sang and played beautifully. It has been covered by a lot of artists but this is the best in my opinion.
Singing, playing your instrument...well, drummers having real rhythm and not needing a click track, being able to create real music that moves people, that all went away with ProTools. It's funny coming from an IT admin, but in my view computers have ruined music. When people used tape, and music was analog, the recording process was expensive. The tape and equipment was very expensive. The tape was rarely reused, so it was a one shot deal for that section of the real. Every time you tried to record over something, the quality would deteriorate. For that reason, to help save money for the band, studio, and label, the talent had to be just that...talent. As you can tell by a lot of the bands, looks came second or third behind stage presence. Today everything is out of order. It's all about looks. With ProTools, beat detective, and autotune, the studio can fix anything. You could go in and mess up beyond belief and they can fix it. Or, it can be recorded over and over and the quality never deteriorates because it's all written to a hard drive that doesn't care if you use that same sector over and over again. With few exceptions, it's my belief that real music pretty much stopped after 96'. With Alice in Chains' unplugged album being the best of the last. Real songs, about real things, showing real emotions, played by real musicians, that's why it's one of the greatest things ever recorded the way I see it. Then when you add what was going on with the band as a group, and with the members too, it's amazing that it even exists. Don't roast me too much over this. There are exceptions to this rule, but they are rare, and for the most part, only exist in rock/metal. Check out Dave Grohl's documentary about the recording studio "Sound City", it's free on UA-cam and is a bit of an education on the process and why analog is just better. More difficult, yes, but if you have the ears to hear it, it's just better. Maybe it's because we are analog machines ourselves. Anyway, just my $.02 , check out that documentary if you have the time... ua-cam.com/video/kREXK5sVjQ4/v-deo.html
Unfortunately the last great musical era was grunge. It seems like musical talent has been taken over by synthetic sound. Have you heard some of the live performances by today’s top tier band? Absolutely wretched.
Written by the great Boudleaux Bryant for the Everly Brothers Roy Orbison did it too Even Cher covered it But Scottish hard Rock band Nazareth had a big hit with this version
This song was featured in the following movies that I know of... Dazed And Confused. Halloween(2007). Can't Hardly Wait & Detroit Rock City. Singer's name is Dan McCafferty. 🤘
The song was first recorded by the Everly Brothers in 1960, Roy Orbison had a top 5 hit with the song in the southern hemisphere in 1961 But this version, from 74/75 is the one that most of us know, was #1 in Canada, Norway, The Netherlands, Belguim and South Africa, and a top 10 in the US.
This is up there as one of the most iconic songs of all time. Would really love for you guys to check out Dr. Hook- "Cover of the Rolling Stone" or my favorite - "Sylvia's Mother"
I’ve suggested they should dive into Dr Hook, but carefully. They have some of the most beautiful love songs, but also some that I think are a bit too raunchy for UA-cam. My favorite in Only Sixteen but Better Love Next Time is a song most everyone can relate to.
This is the one you always hear from Nazareth, the ladies love it and for good reason. To hear the other side of them, try Hair of the Dog, the title track of that killer album. They could do the occasional ballad BUT these guys were more about crunching hard rock. Enjoy! 🎸

I love the song, but there's no way it's Joni's best. She has SO MUCH incredible music. Chelsea Morning is far better- so is most of Blue, Hejira, and a lot of other stuff.
After fifty years, I am still not sure what I like more, the original (Bryant) song, as recorded by the great Everly Brothers, or this later version by Nazareth. Vocals are more beautiful on the original, but somehow this rock band manages to create the right feeling of pain that the song is about. I am still undecided.
I'm thinking the same. Nazareth's sound sticks with me longer though. You can feel the pain being put across. I do own the Everly Bros version but not Nazareth's. Go figure...🤔🙄
Dan McCafferty has such a great voice. Highly recommend Hair of the Dog, Miss Misery and their cover of Joni Mitchell's This Flight Tonight. Spoiler alert: Joni loved their version and that is high praise. Joan Jett also covered this song in 1990. The original version was sung by The Everly Brothers (1960).
I saw them live back in 2010. So glad I got to see them while Dan McCafferty was still touring. His voice is so unique and even with his health issues, he sounded amazing that night.
Our home town of Dunfermline in Scotland where Nazareth come from was devastated to lose Dan a few months back,, one of the best rock voices ever and the most gracious humble man you could ever meet.

Oh and I lovvvvvve Holy Roller... too.. so please add that one as well please!!! Anyway.. so happy to see you two are doing Nazareth hits now! :))

The next from them that is a must is Holiday or This flight tonight or Hair of the dog all CLASSIC ROCK ! All songs from the album Hair of the dog is a great listen! Yous would love to go down the Nazareth rabbit hole!
I saw Nazareth live twice (75,76) live in Milwaukee and they were outstanding! Always gave it their all and left it all on stage. "Love Hurts" was their biggest radio song. Such a beautiful ballad.... 😍🎶😍
My earliest memory was 1979, New Years Eve turning 1980. I was only 4, but I remember this song on the turn table. My Dad gave me popcorn, and told me that this was the only time we could stay up, because it would be a history that we could hold on to. It is crazy, because I remember things looking the same, just different cars, and clothes. I love that at only 4, my parents gave us little moments so that we could hold on to memories. Great job as always guys. You are celebs! Thanks!!!
You made it to the Scottish rockers Nazareth. Try these: Turn On Your Receiver, This Flight Tonight, Woke Up This Morning, Razamanaz, Broken Down Angel I saw them in an outdoor concert about 15 years ago. Sounded just like they did back in the 70's.
Saw them on a dBm bill with Black Sabbath in the early 80's. BS at the time was Tony I, Ian Gillan, Bev Bevan and I don't recall the bassist. Doesn't matter, Naz was the best of the night.
Nazareth has a lot of great songs. Hair of the dog, expect no mercy, whisky drinking woman are some good ones. Would love to see you react to some Doctor Hook and the Medicine Show.
I've been listening to Nazareth since the 70s. An often overlooked band that has so many great songs, great albums. Hair of the Dog should be in everyone's collection. Just subscribed. I love ya'lls content. I'm a 63 year old guitarist. I started playing in 1974 because of bands like this.
One of the best breakup songs ever. It’s been in almost every movie made about the 70’s.
It was a cover song, originally done by the Everly Brothers in the 50s
i remember i first heard it in rob zombie's halloween remake lmao

Not only does the singer sound like he's crying but that guitar cries right along with him.
It was a huge hit in the 70's, even here in Brazil. A favorite for young people in love ...

They featured this song in an episode of That 70's Show. So you might want heard it on that show.
Una de las mejores canciones que e escuchado lo tienen todo, es una de mis favoritas
I think this is in the "Dazed and Confused" soundtrack. Great movie about growing up in 1976 Texas.
I saw Nazareth live twice (75,76) live in Milwaukee and they were outstanding! Always gave it their all and left it all on stage. "Love Hurts" was their biggest radio song. Such a beautiful ballad.... 😍🎶😍
Amber rockin’ the Stones shirt. You go gurl!
Thanks!!!
so are you saying this is the event that turned you into a ridiculous homosexual?
One of my ALL time favorites!!!
You made it to the Scottish rockers Nazareth. Try these: Turn On Your Receiver, This Flight Tonight, Woke Up This Morning, Razamanaz, Broken Down Angel
I saw them in an outdoor concert about 15 years ago. Sounded just like they did back in the 70's.
Saw them on a dBm bill with Black Sabbath in the early 80's. BS at the time was Tony I, Ian Gillan, Bev Bevan and I don't recall the bassist. Doesn't matter, Naz was the best of the night.
One of the, ( if not THE) GREATEST Rock-n-Roll ballads EVER written. Timeless.
Yeah, McCafferty's vocals are "other worldly"!
Pure 70's Classic Rock!
The last movie I remember for sure hearing this song was in Rob Zombie's Halloween remake.
Now try the best version of this old chestnut by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris. It's pretty devastating and just perfect.
Seen them in Concert in Canada in his later years..still a legend in my eyes..listened to them as a teen. ❤️
Written by Boudleaux Bryant and recorded by the Everly Brothers in 1960. Great song and Nazereth really does it justice.
This song was popularized again when Rob Zombie remade. Halloween.
This one really digs down into your soul
I discovered this on That 70's Show. Maybe that's where you heard it
Nazareth has a lot of great songs.
Hair of the dog, expect no mercy, whisky drinking woman are some good ones. Would love to see you react to some Doctor Hook and the Medicine Show.
YES! They would trip on some Dr. HOOK and the Medicine Show!
NAZARETH was using talk box in 1975. Love your channel .
Awesome song and band! Checkout their hit “This Flight Tonight”!! Truly amazing rock sound and tempo!! Cheers
