LOVE this song!!!! The lyrics are so painful & that guitar solo sounds like someone weeping from heartbreak. Definitely one one of the best power ballads EVER!!!! Great reaction!!!! This song always gives me chills 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
Nice description 👌 👍

Miss Misery was great off that album.
@@markwilliams6394 And Changin Times.
Or the No Mean City cover either.
R.I.P. to Nazareth guitarist Manny Charlton. I saw that he passed away on July 5th.

The guitar , the bass, the emotion in the voice ....greatest song to play right after a break up. Someone hurt this dude. Great song and great band :)
Shout out to the harmony vocals as well and that bridge is just stupendous. His voice is so raw and his phrasing is just so strong. It really hurts. If you want to check out Nazareth doing the total complete opposite of a rock ballad, showing you how they can really rock, then you've got to do probably their other most famous song, Hair of the Dog.
This is an outstanding cover. The original is by the Everly Brothers.
Did not know that. Thank you.
Very like your comments.
I have lost my appetite. For 3 or 4 days. I get it.
Joan Jett also covered this song and has a video looking the best she ever has imo
I think Roy Orbison did a version also.
Axel Rose (Guns & Roses) and Brian Johnson (AC/DC) continued this "style" of vocals. No autotone or polish, just a lot of natural talent and energy.
Very true but they wasn't a patch on Dan
Holding my lighter up like I'm back in a stadium during a concert!!!
Good times.
Quick update for you both.. The awesome guitarist in this, Manny Charlton, sadly passed away yesterday. He would have been 81 on the 25th.
Nazareth were the first band I ever saw live & Manny's guitar blew me away. He lived a couple of miles away from me. Dan, the singer still lived at home with his mum & Pete and Darryl lived on the same housing estate as me. I used to see them at the KInema Ballroom in Dunfermline before they hit the big time with "Broken Down Angel"..
R.I.P Manny C..
Oh I missed that one. Sad to hear that Manny passed away.
@@thommagnusson8449 Statement says that he was living in Spain but "passed away suddenly" on a visit to his home in Dallas, Texas.
A very talented man..
That's sad, but he will be remembered, because their music will always be great.
RIP Darrell, Manny and Dan. All 3 in my top 10 musicians.
Love can hurt in many ways. I cared for my wife at home for three years while cancer stole her away.
🌷
Big hug and sorry for your loss.
May God bless her soul...
Be strong!
So sorry Scott! God bless you 🙏
Prayers for you and her! SO sorry for your pain and loss!
Kids, how did you know that I LOVE this song.
What vocals!!!!! Thank y'all.
Fantastic song it was in "Dazed an Confused"
unless you've married your first love everyone has felt this way at one time or another great reaction guys...
I married my first (only) love . Even so, you can't go through 41 years without some hurt.
@@lilly5157 fair enough I can get behind that statement
@@lilly5157 I envy you.
...yeah and "love hurts" when your spouse of 40 years gets cancer and suffers and dies ....then love hurts for a long, long time
Thank you!
I am 62 years old (and retired this year, heck yeah!), so my teen years were in the 70's. Trust me when I tell you there was not one teen dance or party where this song was not played. Time to slow dance. It was everywhere, and everyone could relate.
Dan McCafferty himself said that he wasn't the one who wrote these lyrics, but he would really like to have written them because it had everything to do with him and the band and the composer said that he wrote them to be sung exactly in his voice. The lyrics of the song say that everyone will experience love and see that love also hurts, a disappointment in love or the death of the loved one, only the pain of loss for having loved someone will remain.
This song reminds me of my teenage days when the song came out and my friends a we’re hanging out at the pool hall all evening playing pool. The next song you should try is Nazareth’s This Flight Tonight.
Yep, and their song "Hair Of The Dog".
Sure did get a lot of jukebox play. Think I was in the same pool hall, just in a different town. LOL
👍
"Beggar's Day" !
@@dt1064 I can't believe I've been a fan of them for years and just found out about a month ago about that being a play on word aka "Heir of the Dog" which fits the lyrics ... Can't believe I never even gave that any thought
"Love Hurts" is a song written and composed by the American songwriter Boudleaux Bryant. First recorded by the Everly Brothers in July 1960, the song is most well known in two hit versions by UK artists; by Scottish hard rock band Nazareth in 1974 and by English singer-songwriter Jim Capaldi in 1975.
Asia & BJ, their “Hair Of The Dog” would be next for you!
you bad boy/girl what ever. Please don't Judas me even better. But hey the nice kids, May the sun shine . Would be better
*I really hope you will react to more, these Nazareth songs: Miss Misery__Beggars Day__Hair of the Dog__Whiskey Drinking Woman__Please Don't Judas Me.*
The whole "Hair of the Dog" record kicks it, every song!
MISS MISERY...FTW!
I think I was about 8 yrs old when this song came out, our dog died right around that time, I cried my eyes out everytime it was on the radio. 😭 I love this song but it still gets me, that was my first real lesson on loss and love. If you love, your gonna have loss ..and That's Life !! ♥︎ 🐕 🐶
I know what you mean. My dog passed away yesterday.
@@Mercenaries3 ❤️ It never gets easier 😔
@@Mercenaries3 Very Sorry!
Soo true. I was 13 when our german shepard was hit by a car. It was our fault too..I cried so much. I Remember it like it was yesterday. My first lesson in love and loss.
@@vtbmpskier5400 🐕🦺🤍🐕 oh No. Awe, that sucks. Thats even worse. My sis dog ( Lou Reed) got hit by a car too and it was her fault. 48 Years later and I've had 5 dogs since. That's what we do. Over and over again. Because the good times outweigh the bad. 🤍 🐕 🤍
Nazareth made this song a hit, but it was originally released by the Everly Brothers on their 1960 album A Date With The Everly Brothers. Like their heartbreak hit from 1957, "Bye Bye Love," it was written by Boudleaux Bryant.
Young love is hot with passion, but it burns you when it's hot. The guy in this song has just made this discovery, which is a revelation of sorts - all those singing the praises of love are fools who will soon be burned, as love is just a lie made to make you blue.
The original Everly Brothers version runs 2:23 and is delivered in their distinctive, pleasing harmonies. The Nazareth version is 3:03, with sandpaper vocals by lead singer Dan McCafferty screamed out as if he's falling into the pit of despair.
LOVE IT!!!! I definitely relate to the Nazareth version. Very lovely & heartbreaking 💔💔💔💔💔
How did you know about the Everly Brothers? They were popular very long time ago.

One of the bands that had the classic sound of the mid to late 70's.
Another underrated: Sensational Alex Harvey Band!!!
Singer has a wicked set of pipes....
Great band and reaction. Brings back memories from my high school days. Dan McCafferty has a distinct unique voice that you know it's him when he sings. Nazareth had many other great tracks...
'Hair of the dog' is solid! all the way through👊
The guitar player for Nazareth Manny Charlton died yesterday. Coincidental tribut to him.
If you've ever loved someone that never loved you back then this song will choke you up just thinking about it and if you actually hear it tears will fall down from your eyes.
Nazareth - This Flight Tonight! ( Is a must Video) !
This song (this cover) was an 80s power ballad from the 70s
Another underrated 70s band
This maybe a cover, but it’s the most memorable
I keep waiting for someone to react to "Vigilante Man", their take on an old Blues classic & much loved by longtime Nazareth fans.
Hint, hint.....💙☮
One of..THE most famous Rock Ballads of ALL time. Thank you for posting!!.
Had the eight track hair of the dog
Nazareth is fire. 🔥
Best Scottish rock band ever.
when I first heard this song, and album, I was 16, sitting in my bedroom, with the album on the turntable, that was back in 1976, I'm thrilled that a new generation is discovering some of these timeless classics...I never imagined all these years later, I would still be enjoying, (and sometimes headbanging) the music of my youth...and I played a pretty mean air guitar, and air drums back in the day...LOL...Rock ON!!
I always love both of your reaction's. My first concert was Nazareth the month I turned 17 in September 1982 in Lakeland Florida. Still have the concert T & great memories. Awesome band.
Oh boy. This one cuts deep. And that voice!!!!
Beautiful song
My first concert in ‘78…Eddie Money opened for them in San Bernardino at The Swing Auditorium…Dan McCafferty had a bad back that night and sang from a barstool and kicked ass…this is their mellow song…check out “Hair of the Dog” and my fave “This Flight Tonight”…respect…
Shanghai'd in Shanghai. Silver Dollar Forger. Sunshine. Glad When You're Gone. Woke Up This Morning. Cat's Eye. Telegram. Whiskey Drinkin' Woman. I'm The Violin. Born Under the Wrong Sign. RazzmaNazz. So many good songs to choose from. I'm told they're still touring. My favorite band in the second half of the 70s and till probably, the 90s.
Nazareth was my very first concert. The opening band was called Thin Lizzy who had hits called 'The Boys are Back in Town' and 'Jailbreak'. Both bands are Scottish. I was about 15 years old and my girlfriends Dad drove us 80 miles to Madison, Wisconsin with a 12 pack of Past Blue Ribbon beer in the passenger seat while my date and I smoked shitty homegrown weed in the backseat while enjoying the countryside. I sure miss the 70's
They played this song on the radio 1000 times a day forever.
Remember this song in the movie " Dazed and Confused " A Classic. Also check out their song " Whiskey Drinking Woman "
Dan McCafferty. What a great voice. Used to jam this one in my service days and still have it on my phone. the entire Hair of the Dog album is good.
One of the Greatest songs of all time hands down
The guitarist Manny Charlton died on July 5, 2022 at the age of 80. He left a part of himself in this song with his moving and touching guitar playing.
I remeber slow dancing to this song many a times at jr high school dances back in the day,
Saw them twice in concert in the 70s , great show, thanks again
It takes me back when I was 5
Way back on 2005 I think
Miss you Mama so much
Her kind of music.
Met this band at a TINY venue in the midwest of US in the 90's. A bar really. Anyhoo......when Don came to the line "....I'm young, I know..." he just gave the audience a little wink...Super cool guy.
This song was originally done by Roy Orbison around 1960. It was the flip side of "Running Scared." Also done by Emmy Lou Harris and Gram Parsons around 1970. I played Roy's version at least one a month for 60+ years.
Yes it does Then you live and learn Try it again and again till you get it right And it does get right Yall be safe out there
It's so hard to believe this is a cover because it is the HIT song I grew up with, love, and seems so fitting for the band. Loved the reaction Asia and BJ, thanks so much!
I know right. I was born on 66. It's just part of your soul. And they didn't over-play it throughout the years on the radio, so it was always a treat to hear. 👍
@@JaneReRe I was born in 1964 Jane!
@@jerickson725 We had the best music ever. ""Whiter shade of Pale" too. Released in June 1967- The summer of love. It's embedded in my soul. 👍✌️
@@JaneReRe I agree. My oldest sister is 10 years older and I remember listening to everything from Sugar, Sugar, to Maggie Mae and Elton John when I was around 5 or 6! The 70's also had the best one hit wonders - remember Undercover Angel? 😂
@@jerickson725 yeah! Haha. Midnight fantasy. I never had a dream that made sweet love to me. 🤣 We had no idea what we were singing for the most part. My cousin always reminds me about this shirt my Mom got me on the boardwalk when I was about 9 or 10. She thought it was an Elton John shirt but it said Cap'n Qualude and 714 on the back. 🤣
When my oldest brother turned 16 and got a job, he bought a stereo, a Bowie album and huge speakers, it was great, prior to that we only had the TV/ Turntable/ Liquor Cabinet Combo. 😆
He makes the guitar weep in that solo
First recorded by Eveley Brothers back in the day. When this came out Jim Capaldi relaesed a disco version. Saw these guys live at the Liverpool Stadium 1973 unbelievable.
Nice, they were a staple at the summer fair in Vancouver. Prob saw them 20 times. Good old Scottish band.😁🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I remember this song when I was really young. I love it!!
Greatest close-up slow dance ballad ever.
The pain in his voice makes you wanna protect something.
Yes, rock ballad.
Dan can peal the paint off your walls and then sing you to sleep with a lullaby. And he's still got it!
Watching the lead singer, in the video, is mesmerizing.
Wife here..Love Nazareth!!..Great Song..As most can relate to it at some point..This was one of the first Rock Ballads I could play quite well..(Wayyy back in the eighties)!!.."The emotion of the guitar..,a hurt feeling"..Wow BJ..heard this song all my life & never thought of that comparison.."A gift and hurt at the same time"..Perfectly stated Ms. Asia!
"Love Leads To Madness" is another great song by Nazareth.
Yes. Great song.
Brings back so many memories like your first crush that you thought would forever until these words come out love hurts
Love Hurts" is a song written and composed by the American songwriter Boudleaux Bryant. First recorded by the Everly Brothers in July 1960
The song was written by the first professional songwriters in Nashville, a husband and wife duo. They've written so many songs, and founded BMi Records. This song has been covered by almost everyone, including Elvis.
Great song!! Loved it since I was a kid. ✌❤
The sound made when someone pulls on your heart strings….
This is my favorite version of this song.
This song was in the movie Dazed and Confused. If I'm remembering properly, it was at the middleschool dance. 💃
Asia can sing very well. I wish she'd given us a little more of her "a chapella" version of "Love hurts".
Great review hubby and gorgeous wifey. That point about the guitar crying. Great observation.
Anyone who has experienced unrequited, or unreturned, love knows that it can hurt like nothing else. To love someone who does not love you back can be difficult -- even painful. 💔(˘̩̩̩̩̩̩‸˘̩̩̩̩̩̩ o). Love hurts, 💔❣💕Love scars. 💔🥺
Unrequited love sucks! Can't wait till they perfect humanoid sex robots so that can be a thing of the past.
This song was first released and sung by Don and Phil Everly, in the 50s.
My first concert back in late 70s.
Love Hurts...on the 45...side 2 was Hair of the Dog. I was a little girl. Singing this then run around sing "Now you're messin with a S.O.B." 😆
This song has been my anthem since the 70s. Facts don't care about feelings.
You heard it as background music on a commercial. I can't remember for what, but I recall recognizing it instantly
Incredible vocal performance...
My first idols. Guitarist Manny Charlton passed away a few days ago. Thanks for reacting,
Such a beautiful 💞💞. Love song. 👍. I really love this 🎶🎶🎶🎶. Love sure the hell does hurt. Been with the same man. 55. Years & it just ended 💔💔💔💔. Please listen to,. Hair of the dog. By them. Thank y'all 💞💞💞
This song has been used in commercials, most recently for Esurance and Aspercream.
Haven't heard this in awhile. Thanks guys
5 yrs old, and this song was embedded in me!
13 yrs later, 82nd Airborne, this song resurrected!!!
53 yrs old, and this song, and band, is still, Gold!!!!
This song started out as a country and western song. Earlier versions were released prior to this version.
Part of my growin up soundtrack! I think I was in junior high or so, this song was everywhere
Another great band from my youth !
You have heard this song in commercials, movies a lot of times. Aspercreme, Nissan cars, Norelco razors, etc.
Great reaction... thanks for sharing this classic.... broke it down too...nice, thumbs up!
THIS ALBUM IS TOP 10 OF ALL TIME! No exaggeration. Great all the way through! McCafferty's voice is manly, rugged and refined at the same time. Underrated. Overlooked.
This song has been used in tv commercials and was featured in films.
..Manny Charlton is the guitar player , whith the sweet slide guitar.. Please do a reaction on "Bad Bad Boy" (funny) , or "Woke up this morning" if You do , You two willl be in the front of "reaction videos" ever! I Love You two!
OMG GUYS LOVE ❤️ NAZARETH gosh I used to daydream to this song for years & still do……( this song is a Everly Brothers cover,) my other favourite songs Holy Roller & Hair of the dog …. Thank you Asia & BJ you both always got us!
This song was first recorded by the Everly Brothers released this song in 1960. I hope you get a chance to see their video.
ABSOLUTE CLASSIC ALBUM! is still play it often today.👍🔥
I’ve ALWAYS thought that the guitar solo sounded like the guitar was crying. Even after the first time hearing it in 1975.
It's been in probably a bunch of movies and shows. Two I know off the top of my head is Dazed And Confused and Rob Zombie's Halloween.
This song was first recorded by the Everly bros in 1960 but was never released as a single, first air play came when Roy Orbison recorded it in 1961. The best version, of course, is this version by Nazareth.
Love this song!
my teenage years, great song and band, I also love the Jim Capaldi version (uptempo).
Time to follow-up with the rocking jam HAIR OF THE DOG. Rock music is the most versatile in that anything can be used to create the music. It's influence is powerful and the main reason it is still appealing today. Now break out the cowbell and let's have a little Hair of the Dog !!
Love this classic!
This is considered power ballad because of the electric guitars. A ballad is done on acoustic guitars but sometimes has the electric guitar solo. You may have heard this in Rob Zombie’s Halloween where the mom is like dancing as a stripper this song was playing or the movie Dazed and Confused. Off the top of me head, I cannot recall any other movie with this song in it. This is a classic rock song. The next Nazareth sing to check out is Hair of the Dog. Peace!
