Drove the first one for 300,000 miles and the second one (which was totaled) for 125,000 miles. One of the most reliable cars I've ever had. I've had German cars. No thanks.
I own 3 Toyotas of different body types and a high end Porsche too. There’s no comparison in terms of reliability, maintenance cost and value of a Toyota. You need to ascertain why and what your priorities are in seeking in a car. German cars feel and drive impressively but you better have a good income to afford maintenance and upkeep. But if brand and name is important to you, then you have different priorities and reasons why a Highlander is not for you.
I was gonna comment... but you said it right... we own 2 highlanders (2022 XSE & 2020 XLE) Now why would we spend money on something that didn't make sense
Don’t need to hit the button to unlock the door (button on the door handle is mainly to unlock; it has a sensor behind the handle so just pull on the door handle when you’re near it (detects the key fob when you’re in range)
Right. As soon as I get close to my car I can hear beeping sound of door unlocked without needing to get my key from my purse or pocket. You do have to unlock passenger doors though probably for safety reason which is a plus.
😂😂😂incredible, what a comparison 🤣🤣 those are money hungry vehicles. I recently bought a Highlander Hybrid because it was well recommended and never gives trouble.
I watched the video. I want that 4:21 minutes back. A complete waste of time. Pricey? I can decide that. Room, or lack of it? Isn’t that what people decide when they buy it? Very feeble argument against it.
I'm on my 3rd highlander and I have to say they are one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. They only one I like better is my Sequoia but just because of the extra room. All are very reliable.
Been driving for Toyota for over twenty years. Most reliable cars I’ve ever owned. Had enough of German car problems that were expensive to fix, mechanically speaking. Had stupid problems with Porsches and BMWs. Nah, give me a Toyota any day. Price aside, I’d still have the Toyota.
I have a 2023 Toyota Highlander Limited AWD.....I don't regret purchasing it.....gas saver, JBL speakers, etc......been having my Pearl (vehicle) since last December 😀 running great still no issues what so ever....plus it's a great car for a big family and pets 😀
Good choice. I bought mine used 3 years old and now 7 years later still running great. Just regular maintenance all I need. I think it's a good investment for me.
He didn't actually mention a valid point whatsoever. 😢😅 reliability over luxury I would say. Besides even the highlander being expensive they are more accessible than the brands he mentioned 😊
Respectfully I disagree with you. There are many videos that say the Toyota Highlander is a great vehicle and one video said (the guy reviewing it) that in his opinion the Toyota Highlander is the best used car to buy. They are very well built and reliable vehicles. The reason the new ones are so expensive is because they are great vehicles. ua-cam.com/video/DBSo1WriVQE/v-deo.html
I have 2008 Highlander Sport with 325k and still drives the same as when I bought it 12 years ago. AC replacement has been the only major issue. Best car I've ever owned..👍
We have a 2015 XLE that has had zero major mechanical issues. There was a minor squeak of the driver side window the last inch or so going up that finally resolved itself over time. The vehicle has 78,000 miles and other than the lousy OEM tires that had to be replaced at 36,000 miles, no mechanical problems. Brakes are original and show about 50% left. Regular oil & filter changes at approximately 5,000 miles and tire rotation and balance at the same interval. That's it!
Do yourself a favor and service all the differentials with new fluids and put some ceramic brakes on that bad boy, no more dirty rims and your rotors wont be warped by your next brake job

My 2022 Highlander hybrid @ 33,000 miles just had the wipers quit. In the rain. 15 miles from home. 1st time ever that I lost wipers on a vehicle. Been driving since 78. Prius is almost flawless, this really shocked me about the wipers.
What BMW Audi or Mercedes can you buy for the price of the Highlander with all the features the Highlander has? Love our platinum and getting 30mpg also with a V6.
Time for a reality check. I own a 2021 Highlander Platinum trim and it is a great car to have. Your complaints are somewhat misguided. 1st - I disagree with your statement about the price. Yes it is a high price car but the car retains the value for WAY longer than ANY luxury car does. Do you homework cause I think you don’t know this. So if I lease this vehicle the price of this vehicle will depreciate very little compare to most luxury vehicles. I agree with the app and the 3rd row being the biggest draw back but most luxury companies don’t even have these features for free either - you have to pay either way. At the current rate of interest rates there are very little cars that are a good idea to lease. 2 years ago there were good options right now I would not buy or lease any car even if its a Toyota that will hardly depreciate and that’s where you will need to correct because Toyotas don’t die but your luxury cars do.
Own a 2016 and I can agree with you on back seat room. Now the door handle only seems to have those issues if if it was locked in the last few mins. The value of highlander needs to be a plus If you are buying a vehicle and it holds it's value that is a good thing.
We've had a Highlander Limited since 2014 (180,000+ miles) and we're just about to pass it down to my daughter and her husband and get a NEW Highlander. This car has been amazing, is still in perfect working order from stem to stern. It's luxurious, comfortable and a perfect "young" (third row seats are child proportioned) family vehicle. We're excited about getting the new 2024 Highlander Hybrid and would recommend it to anyone in the market. With this car, you definitely get what you pay for.
What year is it, I have the 2016 limited but I think it is also the Platinum. It has the panoramic sunroof and I think you can only get that on the Platinum is that true?
I just bought a new le, felt sick when I saw this title, glad I watched this video. Feel way better now that I know his complaints were pointless for me.
I’ve purchase three brand new Highlanders and it’s the best investment I’ve made. For the style reliability and comfort. The next step up would be a Lexus. Still choose my Highlander over the Lexus.
Guess no one explained how a smart entry actually works. The lines on top of the handle lock the car... To open just stick your hand in the handle and open. As far as the European counterparts he mentioned check that resale in 3-5 years. Good luck with that. Good luck once you get over 100k
BMW and Mercedes are starting to charge a subscription fee for things such as heated seats, heated steering wheels, more HP on certain Mercedes models. Apple CarPlay and android auto are free. Your beloved bmw and Mercedes charge a subscription fee for those too. But if comfort is your main concern, at least when your bmw and Mercedes breakdown, at least you’ll be comfortable when your sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck.
This is not true on BMW. You all just make up stuff as you go to support your case for your highlanders. I had one - 2024 Limited and kept it for one month. Cheap interior. Lackluster drive. Scratchy leather. Plastic parts everywhere. Traded out after one month. Got a BMW. Haven’t looked back. No fee for the app. Have remote services. Free. Hotspot with WiFi is free. Do your research.
This guy is clueless. The Highlander has one of best depreciation rates of all cars! It has stellar reliability. And the cost of maintenance is very low compared to the cars he is comparing it to,
My 2019 highlander is great car to me i had it for one year so far no issue runs great , very reliable so far and i have 2009 nissan Maxima that have brought it Demo new in 2009 going on its 14 year it has 146,369 miles on it and still runs great
highlander doors open the first time every time. You just grab the handle, stop pushing the lock or unlock button. The third row is small but it’s for kids mostly. Lastly, it’s resale value is hugely better then others you mentioned. You can buy this and in a few years sell it and come out good, the others you can’t.
The Audi, BMW or Mercedes isn’t half the car that a Lexus is. Their well financed owners actually brag about their cars being well cared for at the Dealership. Also, check out the depreciation rate for those 4 brands.
I think you are wrong about the lease payments. Yes, for the similar amount of money for a really good spec Highlander you can get a new GLC or X3 or Q5 - however BMW and Audi are pretty bad in terms of reliability and engine issues. MB is still holding good in this but the lease payments are a lot more than Highlander. I am Mercedes guy, I was only driving MBs for a very long time, after we moved to Canada we got a brand new Toyota Rav4, before that we used to have W177 A Class which was really nice car. Toyota kease payments are not too bad and I think looking at the lease payments from premium brands are pretty high and when you want to own the car you will pay a lot more at the end of the lease than you would just finance it. The more the expensive the car is the more money you will throw at the end to own it. If you want to own the more premium czr from brand new the better option is to finance, lease is only as good as you will switch the cars after few years.
The led headlights be blinding other cars at night! It’s either the drivers not operating it correctly or their lights are just blinding other road users at night
The Highlander is one of the best and most reliable vehicles out there. Go to the competitor and pay $20k more for 2” of leg room at the back. Also maintenance cost on bmw, Mercedes etc is enormous and vehicle reliability is not there.
Highlanders have higher resale value than bmw and Mercedes, so you will pay more upfront but will lose less in depreciation when it comes time to sell imo
I have one and I actually use it as a work truck, I pull a landscape trailer full time with it. People laugh but they have no clue how reliable and great on gas they get. They pull really well also
Simplicity=Reliability PERIOD! I have a 2019 highlander and made sure I got a turn key instead of a push start as well. Best SUV I’ve ever had. And I paid mine off already. Reasonably pricy but still affordable

My experience owning a 2016 XLE has been nothing short of amazing. I just returned from a 3,000 mile trip last week and it's one of the most comfortable vehicles I've ever owned. Yes, I've owned 3 BMW's, so I'm qualified to refute virtually everything you posted.
One more comment about my Highlanders vs an Audi. I've owned 19 new cars over my lifetime and several used ones when I was young. None of my cars ever broke down and left me stranded until I purchased a brand new 2009 Audi A4. In the two years I owned it, I had to have it towed twice. Once I had it towed to a local garage from 80 miles away when it broke down. I'd never have another Audi.
I own a 2023 XLE Hybrid. I absolutely love it. The third row is for kids and for short trips. If you are hauling adults, go buy a sienna or grand highlander to get more 3rd space
I have a 13’ Highlander and I need another big car, was going for the 24’ Grand Highlander but decided with a 23’ BMW X7, it’s way nicer in every way. I usually don’t keep my cars for more than 3 years so it wouldn’t matter, plus it has warranty
Yes the highlander is expensive, and yes you it is approaching some of the German options, but how is it regarding total cost of ownership. I’d be willing to venture TCO is far less than its German rivals, and this is why people chose the Toyota (and Lexus) over a Benz or Audi. Second, I personally think leasing a car is a horrible idea. Leases are structured to benefit the dealer. Not only do they get the high monthly payment, you are limited on the miles that you can drive. Then at the end of the lease, they turn around and sell what is a low mileage car as a CPO and make even more money. I’d opt for the purchase of a CPO and pay cash if you are able to. You’ll come out ahead as opposed to the lease.
Going from a Toyota to a bmw seems like a step forward but in 10 years of ownership you could buy 2 Toyotas for the price of a similar bmw because of maintenance headaches.
I’ve had my 2016 Toyota Highlander XLE and I’ve had ZERO problems with it. You talk about price ? You pay for what you get and I got a reliable Vehicle I can count on and the parts are easy to get and not that expensive to buy either VS you’re BMW, Audi and whatever other cars you mentioned PLUS none of them are reliable as a Toyota and I’ve had a few. I like being the average everyday person with an everyday average reliable Vehicle.
I find it hard to believe that people are buying Highlanders because they actually want a fancy sports car. Anyone going out of their way for one of these isn't going to want a money pit just so they can look cooler.
I own a Highlander ( XLE 2019) my oly real complaint is ..that last row is tight But I don't use it everyday I'm a solo camper ..Bike rider so this is perfect for that ...worst case I can lay seats down and sleep like a baby

Quite Helpful, Thanks for sharing!! Eye opening to hear about the app 👀, I had no idea. Not sure if that will stop me or not from proceeding with getting one or not. Not getting 1 this yr, but have drooled over getting 1 of these for yrs.
I’ve got a 2002 Highlander that I bought new. Other than normal maintenance (oil changes, new tires, new battery a couple of times and regular tune ups), I’ve been very pleased with it. Still drives great.
07 Highlander with a quarter million miles and I would not trade it for a 0 mile German or American anything. No check engine light no vibrations and no body damage. There is no better car than a Highlander and the AWD is unstoppable. This guy is not a car guy, he is a German car salesman.
I've had 4 Toyota Highlanders and I love them, especially the smooth ride of the 6 cylinder SUV power on a Camry chassis. Yes, I paid good money but I've had very few repairs on any of them.
I learned nothing from this guy, he pointed out nothing wrong with the car he has no strong points or any real numbers to compare the cars he talks about to and he just rambles the same nonsense over and over again, so i went out to a Toyota Dealership today and i looked at a highlander and the Grand highlander and i like it so much that i ended up buying one, i ended up getting the GRAND Highlander it has more room in the Third row and it has 2 inches more head room clearance. We had no problem opening the car you touch it once to open and twice to lock it. Dont listen to this guy go look the car yourself.
Seems expensive until you buy one of the German cars and start having to replace parts that would still have hundreds of thousands of miles left on a Toyota.
7 years later I'm still driving my 2017 Highlander and it has not seen the dealer except for the initial free service. It has been absolutely trouble free. My previous vehicle was a Highlander was a trouble free hybrid . The vehicles you are citing as probably better are having massive recalls. @@everydayfun9531 ye, but a lexus wouldn't really compare to this car on offroading.
👆 Nailed it, thank you.
agreed.
WELL DONE ❤
I have 3 as well most Reliable Vehicles out there ,, especially those built in Japan
I was gonna comment... but you said it right... we own 2 highlanders (2022 XSE
&
2020 XLE)
Now why would we spend money on something that didn't make sense
Don’t need to hit the button to unlock the door (button on the door handle is mainly to unlock; it has a sensor behind the handle so just pull on the door handle when you’re near it (detects the key fob when you’re in range)
Right. As soon as I get close to my car I can hear beeping sound of door unlocked without needing to get my key from my purse or pocket. You do have to unlock passenger doors though probably for safety reason which is a plus.
BMW, Audi, Mercedes = Money Pit
Scotty Kilmer
Quit UA-cam bro
😂😂😂incredible, what a comparison 🤣🤣 those are money hungry vehicles. I recently bought a Highlander Hybrid because it was well recommended and never gives trouble.
He’s 100% right. They’re just not well made, compared to Japanese cars
Bro.. you missed an adjective.. "endless" money pit 🤣
I watched the video. I want that 4:21 minutes back. A complete waste of time. Pricey? I can decide that. Room, or lack of it? Isn’t that what people decide when they buy it? Very feeble argument against it.
This guy has the intelligence of a 5 year old. Watch his other videos and you’ll see
Seriously! 5 mins successfully wasted.. useless video..
What German 3-row SUV can you buy for Highlander money?
Benz GLS: starting $81k
BMW x7: starting $78k
Audi q7: starting $60k
Seriously this guys confused on auto prices.
& I love the fact that the highlander has mechanical fold downs
X7 electric 3rd row is flawed
Stopped watching at around 1:30 when I heard I could get an Audi, BMW or Mercedes
Not for the same money, not even close.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I go for reliability and that only can be found in a Toyota.
Reliability give you peace 💯
What about hondas?
@@DonJulio510 good cars but Honda makes bad transmissions
Exactly. BMW’s or Mercedes have higher maintenance and so expensive specially in the US. I will take a Toyota or Lexus any day
I had Hondas and I love it also but now that I'm driving a Highlander, I found that Honda cost me more to keep.
14 year highlander owner and I am positive I will have another 10 years easy with this vehicle. Reliable and would buy again.NEVER had an issue.
I own that very same Toyota Highlander in blueprint I definitely recommend this vehicle I'm very happy with my purchase.
I have the same car and say the same
I'm on my 3rd highlander and I have to say they are one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. They only one I like better is my Sequoia but just because of the extra room. All are very reliable.
Same here and I've owned three of them also.
I would choose reliability over anything else. Don't want to lose my sleep over garage visits
Yes 100% agree. Had to take my Porsche to the garage so many times.
Same thing here
Agree
Agree I just got mine yesterday and I love it so nice I have the color red 2023 toyota Highlander
Good choice. I bought mine used 3 years old and now 7 years later still running great. Just regular maintenance all I need. I think it's a good investment for me.
Can you sell the car to me or can you gifts it to me
He didn't actually mention a valid point whatsoever. 😢😅 reliability over luxury I would say. Besides even the highlander being expensive they are more accessible than the brands he mentioned 😊
That’s not true, he mentioned the 3rd row for 10 seconds then it was 4:11 of complete bullshit
Damn, I just bought a 23 Highlander because of this video
2024 grand highlanders is what you want
Congrats, they're beautiful cars!
Your wallet will thanks you for it. Lol
@@dakel7 for the space - maybe, doesn't drive well - pretty sluggish on the road.

I drive a 2021, great car! No problems so far and I have put a lot of miles on it. My previous one was a 2018, same thing.
What BMW Audi or Mercedes can you buy for the price of the Highlander with all the features the Highlander has? Love our platinum and getting 30mpg also with a V6.
U have a hybrid?
The value of highlander needs to be a plus If you are buying a vehicle and it holds it's value that is a good thing.
no need to press the button to unlock. you can just put your hand through the handle and it will unlock automatically. has a sensor.
I have a Highlander Limited All Wheel Drive Platinum Edition. Best vehicle I have ever had. I'm thinking of getting the hybrid in a few years.
What year is it, I have the 2016 limited but I think it is also the Platinum. It has the panoramic sunroof and I think you can only get that on the Platinum is that true?
The thing that I hate the most is Toyota/Lexus are too reliable if you compared to German cars or others.
you lost me at 0:05 seconds bro. The mercedes, audi, and bmw are not the same price as this. Do more research.
My wife absolutely loves her 2018 xle awd.
I just bought a new le, felt sick when I saw this title, glad I watched this video. Feel way better now that I know his complaints were pointless for me.
You're going to be fine as long as you take care of it. I bought mine used and had for 7 years now. Me and the wallet still love it.
@@chanthana7694 you cannot go wrong with a Toyota
I’ve purchase three brand new Highlanders and it’s the best investment I’ve made. For the style reliability and comfort. The next step up would be a Lexus. Still choose my Highlander over the Lexus.
Guess no one explained how a smart entry actually works. The lines on top of the handle lock the car... To open just stick your hand in the handle and open. As far as the European counterparts he mentioned check that resale in 3-5 years. Good luck with that. Good luck once you get over 100k
I have a 2012 Highlander, bought it 4 years ago..... NEVER had a problem. Those luxury brands are known for giving multiple problems.
You triggered a bot😂
I had a Highlander for a hew years. 2016 LE Plus I think. That car was amazing. I sold it for top dollar and bought a brand new 4Runner.
why you should never watch such videos 😁
This guy is clueless. The Highlander has one of best depreciation rates of all cars! It has stellar reliability. And the cost of maintenance is very low compared to the cars he is comparing it to,
My 2019 highlander is great car to me i had it for one year so far no issue
runs great , very reliable so far and i have 2009 nissan Maxima that have brought it Demo new in 2009
going on its 14 year it has 146,369 miles on it and still runs great
highlander doors open the first time every time.
This comment is laughable
@@josephfamilyrocks So I guess you have more money than intelligence.
@@elikemohammed7181I have both! Get a life.
And this Highlander will still be running after you go through three of your Beemers ..
I would never listen to the opinion of anyone who would choose that haircut tbh
I would rather pay $50-$60 oil change than pay $150 oil change.
This guy is embarrassing himself. Go reviewing your Mercedes and your BMW.
What color is your highlander ?
@@Hellocali1 it's a midnight black metallic. Also got the LE Plus. I don't need the AWD system or the fancy but warmers. LE Plus was the bust option for me. Kind of wish I had gone with the hybrid but still don't regret my choice.

Just remind you also toyota also make lexus the best cars on the market
HONDA ACURA IS THE BEST, PERIOD.

If you want to throw endless money into a bottomless pit then buy a Euro car . If you want to never break down again, buy Toyota. Cheers from NZ
I have a 13’ Highlander and I need another big car, was going for the 24’ Grand Highlander but decided with a 23’ BMW X7, it’s way nicer in every way. I usually don’t keep my cars for more than 3 years so it wouldn’t matter, plus it has warranty
I have had my Toyota Highlander for 20 years the other cars you named won't last that long without replacing the motor and tranmission!❤
That same one on this video is the first NEW car I ever bought and I have no problems with it. Almost done paying it off 🙌
He never said the model year of that car. The door locks on my 2016 Highlander never have malfunctioned. Also, I can service my own car.
Sorry i have to thumbs down and report your channel its unhealthy and misleading and wrong information 🤦♂️
I'll take reliability, dependability and resale value from my Toyotas and Lexus. especially the low cost maintenance any day over any german car.
I find it hard to believe that people are buying Highlanders because they actually want a fancy sports car. Anyone going out of their way for one of these isn't going to want a money pit just so they can look cooler.
I have a XSE 2021 and love it best suv I've own!!! 😊
I own a Highlander ( XLE 2019) my oly real complaint is ..that last row is tight But I don't use it everyday I'm a solo camper ..Bike rider so this is perfect for that ...worst case I can lay seats down and sleep like a baby
I have a 2018 toyota highlander and it is the best car I've ever had. Extremely reliable and safe. I love my highlander. I'd rather pay for comfortably than style
The German cars you mentioned at the beginning are high maintenance cost and low resale value.
I own a 2012 Highlander. Never had any problems with it so far engine/transmission wise. Great fuel mileage. Good interior space. Decent engine power. I find it hard to believe anything he said about the Highlander🤔.

2018 Platinum Hybrid. 116,000 miles and other than tires and interval maintenance I've had zero issues. Brakes are still in the green as well.
I've had 4 Toyota Highlanders and I love them, especially the smooth ride of the 6 cylinder SUV power on a Camry chassis. Yes, I paid good money but I've had very few repairs on any of them.
We went from a Lexus RX 350 to our new highlander limited and we love it more then our Lexus.
Good to see that no actual faults were mentioned.
7 years later I'm still driving my 2017 Highlander and it has not seen the dealer except for the initial free service. It has been absolutely trouble free.
My previous vehicle was a Highlander was a trouble free hybrid .
The vehicles you are citing as probably better are having massive recalls.
I look forward to seeing your posts lamenting buying BMW or Mercedes Benz which are owned by VW.
I have a 2013 Highlander with 160k miles on it and it hasn't given me no problems and it still runs like new. Oil change, brakes, wipers, and tires -thats been it.
I agree with him about a monthly fee of $10 after 1 year, it should be free!
I would like to see a side-by-side comparison of the this and the German cars you say are the same price.
