So good! It’s really nice to hear someone demo this gear who can actually get in the ballpark of playing like Mayer. Not trying to throw shade on anyone, but lots of guys have the gear, but when they demo it, they don’t have the FEEL. It’s an invaluable part of the equation, and you got it!
My bro!! Amazing, your playing is as always incredible, nice to see you here on UA-cam too!! The Traditional Clean is also my dream amp, still collecting money for the one! Nice to see how this amp got treated so well by a player like you!🔥
The playing & tone is amazing!! Pure joy. Thank you. I don't have the Two Rock, but I am playing through Bias FX 2 Lite, which they gave away for free. Most importantly, this edition has a Fender, Marshall and... a Two Rock. Spend 99% time on it. Made my perfect preset and this amp matches literally every old/new song and style.
@@JakeLoosemore yeah 😁. I tried almost every modelling software imaginable. Even tried combining completely different VST plug-ins in chain. But Bias FX 2 is one of the most rich, composed and delicious sounding one.
@@JakeLoosemore I came here for an update 😁 2 weeks ago I tried Neural DSP Archetype: Cory Wong plugin and other Neural plugins (there are 14 day free trial). That turned everything upside down for me. I thought Bias FX 2 was 1ft above all plugins I tried. But Neural stuff seems to be another 1ft above everything else. Really sounds like a real amp, has pleasant feedback, rich, fat and versatile tone. One of amps in Cory Wong plugin is said to be a Dumble, so it is great for Mayer tone. And on drive channel it is even close to a Marshall sound, so very versatile. Plus an amazing reverb with shimmer, stereo delay, envelope filter, chorus, wah. Bias has way more amps, and pedals, but the difference in tone... Recommend everyone who is interested to try 😄
After watching you play Edge of Desire, the amp is part of it but your skill is where all the tone is coming from. I've been playing EoD since it came out and I still sound like a beginner.
What a great tone. I'm not even crazy about Mayer, just came to see how blues guitarists stack their pedals but wow. Really nails that Live in LA tone. Superb playing as well. Just to get things clear - the amp is a platform, the Klon is the always on drive, the Tube Screamer is boosting the Klon and the BluesBreaker is the solo bpost right? I've never stacked more than two pedals before.
I’ve been coming back to this video for the past week, and I gotta say that I am obsessed with how accurate the tones are. Ain’t no Sunshine tone was absolutely dead on! Great playing! What speakers were you using? The built-in IRs in the universal audio Ox? Or external impulse responses?
Ahhh man, that means a lot! I was using the Two Rock style cabinet with the G12-65’s in (I can’t remember what it’s called). All of the audio was from the OX!
Great stuff! That’s the Belief intro from the Continuum release show at Webster Hall right? That has been my “tone goal” for years. The TC is the first amp that completely nails it.
My TC should be arriving tomorrow 🙏 I found a 100/50 head in stock from a german company lol. Was going to get a ceriatone JM 100 but I figured the two rock will be worth the extra cash.
At the very end of the repeated part, there's a transition from 7th fret on the D to 7th fret on the G that's supposed to be smooth. I naturally played it with all fingers, and struggled to make that sound smooth. Forced myself to not use my pinky and it solved itself.
@@ama5573 Interesting. My issue would be the exact opposite, I guess because of my small hand (thumb) size, without my pinky, I simply cannot play part of it smoothly because they're having to jump all over the fretboard.
Hey dude! Awesome sound how do u set up the ox? And how do u record? Got a TC aswell but i moved to an apartment so just wonder if the ox will fix that :)
Curious - Did you end up keeping your Suhr Bella? Currently have a Bella myself and am really enjoying playing it, but I've always wondered if the step up to a two-rock would be worth it.
Yep I still have the Bella and gig with it every week. I put an EVM12L in mine a few years back, and although heavy, it really took the amp to the level of the Two Rock’s in my opinion. With that being said they’re still very different amps, and I’m lucky to own all of them!!
which ir are you using for the amp? ive heard a few demos with g12-65 speakers and they compliment two rock amps so well. curious to maybe if youre using them also. i wonder if the two rock speakers are a similar style speaker as well
I think i would have to cut my fingers off and get exact replicas of Mahers fingers and then get a brain transplant. Yes with Maher's brain. Shoot if i was going to go that far, I might go for the Beck special edition brain.
Nice tone. The Traditional Clean is a good amp to get Mayer tones. It's the same circuit as the Two Rock Crystal with different and new transformers. Of course, the best amp to get Mayer tones is the Two Rock Mayer Sig.
Thanks a lot! Songs like ‘Who Did You Think I Was’ required very different settings to most of the other tracks as you can see in the video. But the amp was set almost the same for Belief, Slow Dancing, Edge of Desire and Ain’t No Sunshine, so the main differences there were the pedals!
Hey jake! I saw you from tommy guitars instagram, and I have a question for you, cause although i know about guitars, i'm not really good with amps. Doesn't it impact the sound from the video if you're mic'ing the prs cab instead of the two rock head? (I really have no idea how heads and cabs work btw)
Hey man! A head has no speaker in it so you can’t use it on its own or mic it up, you need a cab to both take the load off of the amp and to produce sound! Hope that helps?
during this quarantine .. all the guitar players is more interesting all about john mayer than before and also this amp is very expensive in my country lol
Probably the best combination of tone accuracy and feel for JM stuff I've see on UA-cam
Huge compliment! Thank you 🙏
This tone is.. freaking astounding!!!

Jake, this tone is outrageous. Excellent work! The playing is also fantastic.

Thank you!! Correct mate (or at least my rough approximation of it), and it definitely nails it!
We have similar technique in playing Edge of Desire. Idk how JM does it with mostly downstrokes!
I don’t either!! 😆
My TC should be arriving tomorrow 🙏 I found a 100/50 head in stock from a german company lol. Was going to get a ceriatone JM 100 but I figured the two rock will be worth the extra cash.
The Two Rock is definitely worth the extra cash. Congrats man!
Can you explain what you’re doing at 5:57 when the camera cuts to the Two Rock? It sounds so cool and unique!
My first though was when did mayer play a blue stratocaster?
Hahahah, thanks man! Wayyy too kind.
Excellent
How people play Edge of Desire without using their 4th finger is mind blowing to me.
At the very end of the repeated part, there's a transition from 7th fret on the D to 7th fret on the G that's supposed to be smooth. I naturally played it with all fingers, and struggled to make that sound smooth. Forced myself to not use my pinky and it solved itself.

Where could I get that Klon Pedal?
They’re no longer made sadly! Keep an eye out on Reverb!

Great sound. When you bought the amp did add any preset through company or is the amp standard set up, want to know thinking of buying amp thanks
Oh that subtle Klon flex though ❤️

daaayyyummm Jake. Needed some water to put the fire in my speakers out. fire! Belief intro tones were immense
Hahaha, thanks mate! That Belief intro can be darn hard to play to be honest!
This is so inspiring. I’ve been trying to track down a traditional clean FOREVER. Where did you get yours..?
Thanks man, Peach guitars!
your playing is so tasty - tone is killer
do you think you can nail the gilmour tone with the right speakers and this amp?
Thanks man! I absolutely think you could yeah
wow! that tone :'). Do you remember the positions of the knobs on the strat? Thanks!!
Thanks man!! My volume is usually on 7/8, but my tone is wide open.
Two rock SSS or TC for John Mayer tone? I think John Mayer really likes his dumble sss. Btw, nice demo! Thanks.
Honestly it’s hard to say. I do have both now, so I’ll have to make a comparison when I get chance. Cheers!!

Why do you have the gain so high though?
The amp doesn’t have gain in the way that a 5150 or Marshall does, as it stays clean. I’m using the gain for compression and therefore clean sustain!
This is just too good. How much tinkering did you have to do with the settings between songs or was it more dictated by the pedals?
