@@jimmrockford9407 especially if you learn your minor and major arpeggios. Hell add in some dominant arpeggios while you’re at it. It’s almost easier to learn Dorian rather than your basic minor shapes, just so your not stuck trying to add the notes later.

Next thing is to work on the muscle memory to be able to use it well. Most peoples fingers don't naturally work together like that. (thats where the real work comes in).

Buy a book called Blues You Can Use. Bought it over 20 years ago. It teaches all of this stuff. It’s easy to understand. You all can do it, too. Get a book. Practice.

John you just tripled my guitar skills in 7:30 thanks. I could already good player but I’m dyslexic never put it together like that. I can’t read notes tab or watch unless backwards just patterns in my head . You freakin rock. Thanks
One way I sometimes think about it, when outside the VIII position Cm pentatonic, is looking at the other side of the coin: Eb major pentatonic in V position. I always struggle having the root note on the little finger and this has helped me a lot on visualizing the fretboard. My guitar teacher, a great one at that, always tells me and his other students to study the different scale shapes both in minor and major, for any given position (e.g. ascending major, descending minor etc).
This proves to me John Mayer cares more about the art of guitar and people being able to learn than just benefiting on it. Blues is an art and people like him keep it alive
