3:28 the perfect timing to start a guitar lick. The trick to Mayers playing is to keep shuffling that timing and combine bluesy licks around the beat whilst feeling the overall pulse of the song. He takes the basics and brings it to another level. All in all, It's just good ol' "simple" blues but building a solo and seeing that big picture in the context of a song, I believe, is Mayers main strength. You don't get bored.

100% agree. He has an impeccable groove and roundness that I just can’t get enough of in his playing. It pays such great homage to the greats that mentored him like Buddy Guy, while being a style completely his own. When I played around on garageband as a kid (totally not a musician btw), I got so much excitement out of singing along to songs and then adding effects on my voice and whatnot, and then playing it back. I did not use that software to its proper potential, but I can understand how real musicians can get all up in their feelings when they hear their creation coming together. Plus the joy of being able to capture the creative process on computers or videos instead of their brain dump being lost to the environment, never to be replicated again. :P

As a fellow guitar player is was great watching John piece this together! He's become so comfortable in front of his phone/camera that you can almost see him zone in and out during the solos when he's obviously conscious of the camera and playing to it and then towards the end when he turns away from it and plays some of the tastiest parts of the solo. Almost like the first half was a bit of showboating for the folks at home and the last half was "time to go to work and nail this solo..." Great playing and really cool song. Thanks John!

John has given me the inspiration to challenge my guitar skills and become a better musician and I am so glad I found his music soo many years ago. I have a spotify playlist of all of his songs that always sound like I am hearing them for the first time because of how deep and intricate his guitar playing is and how amazing Pino and Steve play and structure their musical conversations with John. dude, fuckin like 10 years ago now (I'm so old :( ) John did this thing he does once or twice a year and performs unannounced at this bar in Hollywood, which was down the street from my house but I missed it cause I wasn't much of a fan of his yet. some patron there filmed every song and put it up on her channel a few months before my heartbreaking breakup at the time and I found his performance of Slow Dancing. just him playing alone acoustically in like my favorite version of that song he's ever done. I obsessed over that performance for like a month, learning it note for note over the course, which helped me get over the sadness and anger. I love it, probably listened to that performance like 1000 times, and it's funny cause people in the comments talk about how good the solo is and that vid has over a million views, so something about it connected with people too, even tho it's just John alone in a bar playing a song he was already famous for.
