You better do a CST form Slog2 to Davinci Widegamut in the first node and another CST from that to rec709 on the last node. Davinci widegamut is the best way to correct everything. And saturation is a lot better done in HSV color space, just disable the 1st and 3rd channels.
dude this is crazy… I got myself the A7III a few years ago and started to get soo disappointed because of the 8bit, got myself the A7SIII and BMPCC6K Pro because I wanted to just grade the footage withouth any problems and now I‘m here filming with the A7III using this technique and it completely changed everything 😍
This was so helpful, especially for those of us limited by the 8-bit wall. Your shots look super clean and it's encouraging to see the quality come through when using this method. Thanks!
Gold! I’ve been wrestling with whether or not to move over to slog 2 on my a6400 but most videos I’ve watched have made it too complicated to understand. This doesn’t seem as daunting! Appreciate it 👍🏽
Thanks for ACTUALLY doing and explaining. There’s been so many videos out there telling us what to do but not really explaining it. I like the way you explain, practical and simple! Keep it up.
Just jumped into the Sony system with an old a7rii and I was looking for some Slog2 guidance. Perfect! Simple and straightforward. Just what I was looking for. My first tries on the Sony recommended way of exposing Slog2 also failed. So very happy with this approach.
@@BryceKoebel i feel you 💀 btw, putting the saturation to +18 seemed a bit weird to me, im used to it being at 0 or something. Is there a bigger reason for the increased saturation?
Good work with the grading! A lot of people use SLOG2 expecting it to solve all of their problems, but in fact, it can sometimes be the opposite. You really have to know what you're doing.
Thank you for sharing this! My color grading journey has been all over the place for S-Log2! But this tutorial really explained it in basic terms so will give this a try for sure! Thanks my man!
After becoming lazy and turning to just run and gun on my A7iii with no picture profile, I'm coming back to the process of shooting flat profiles again for more creativity this was such a good refresher for me to remember on how to edit / set things up again. Great work Bryce!
everything about this video is just beautiful ! you're explaining really clearly, I really appreciate you doing this video ! i just wonder what country you live in, because the ambience is breathtaking 😍🥰
Yes, when I finally figured out a slog2, I actually felt like I got a new camera. I use it on the Sony a6400, and it makes a huge difference. Thanks for sharing.
Great tutorial! I loved the pace, the aesthetics and simplicity. Thank you for the information and putting this online! Those shots at the end were so beautiful, great job ;)
this exposure technique works like a charm! especially in low light, which always used to be a problem for me. the footage is really easy to grade now. thanks Bryce! :D

Thank you for this! I’ve had people try to talk me out of my A7C purchase cause of the 8-bit limit and to only shoot on hlg. But this helped a lot and looks fantastic!
Great video. I shoot on an A7C and haven't dabbled in slog2 at all even. I just picked up a used a7s so I figure I should learn at this point to make the most use out of my cameras. Only downside is I use FCP and it seems to be harder to find info on slog2 grading on FCP
thank you man this was helpful, was shooting in N-Log and noticed a shit ton of noise, didnt know what to do thought something was wrong with my external recorder. Did some tests with overexposing, whilst I have the extra step of bringing the exposure back down later I think it is definitely a cleaner image.
Nice video. The footage you shot and graded looks good. I was planniing on sellign all my Sony cameras but might give it a try just to see if I should keep my a6500 or not. Thanks.
Thanks a lot for sharing and creating! Very helpful and relevant, even years after your upload. I record morning to evening in a very dynamic environment, I vlog leaving the house, grabbbing the elevator, then metro, again outside in harsh light conditions, office, gym, etc. How can I have some sort of run and gun setup with my ZV-E10 as I clearly want to keep SLOG2? Or perhaps there is no way to do this and slog2 is for a more controlled environment or studio? And if so, what should I use for all the other multitude of scenes? Perhaps Picture profile off and something flat from settings. Thanks a lot in advance!
Hello Bryce, after i watched your videos i decided to swich to slog-2 ;) For now colograding is going pretty great! Thank you! I hope you chanel will grow!
Thank you!! I’m glad it was helpful. I still use my HLG profile when there isn’t enough light, because slog-2 can be messy in the shadows. But overall it’s been great!
This is awesome. I need to figure out how to do this with my A7C. Tried it with Matti’s luts once and failed. Thinking I need to give it another go after watching this. Beautiful color by the way.
hey Bryce! I'm excited to try this out! I've been shooting HLG ever since I started, but everything you said about it, how easy it is to blow out highlights, I totally get! Anyways, I really enjoyed this video, very well explained and all that's left is for me to try this out! hope I can learn it! thanks for this!
I've been using HLG2 for the last 2 years on my a7iii, and I think I want a more cinematic rolloff in the highlights now. This seems to be the trick! Do you have any tips of post processing in FCPX? I haven't touched DaVinci Resolve yet, the learning curve is pretty steep. Thanks for all this information!!!
Never use the +/- exposure meter. Useless. Use zebras and the histogram. Set zebras to correct level for the gamma you're using, and ETTR for the brightest thing you want to keep detail in. Your shadows will thank you.
Thank you so much for this beautiful video im new in the slog2 i shoot a real estate video with slog2 and when i start the editing its was so bright so i will change the settings and see how it works ❤❤
Thanks alot for your video. It will be super helpful if you could make some videos on how influencers like Isabela Paige shoot and colour grade their videos. Something aesthetic.
This was really helpful. I was using cine4 all this time and was always afraid to use slog2 due to some bad experience, guess I did not know only how to expose it properly. But now I know because of this video. Thanks a lot. Just wanted to ask what things we should consider while using slog2 in outdoor in daylight?
I’m glad it was helpful! Yeah honestly, just make sure your subject is always exposed properly. I think I wouldn’t worry about having some zebras in the frame but keeping it minimal.
Hi, Bryce. I'm thankful to this video. you reminded me a7iii still has potential! I have a question. you said "in-camera sharpening is not good". how do you re-sharpen your footage?
I think the moment you dont have verry bright light s log is dead, there is so much noise in the dark areas, i always overexpose even more than +2 because it´s easy to bring the highlights down, the total oposite that i learned. now i have to find out how i grade different camera profiles in one final video.
