    The Design Essentials Avo Almond Mousse works well with leave ins, I’ve used a few. I used this mousse for 2.5 years straight with Camille Rose Honey leave in and the Curl Maker gel. I use a little leave in under my mousse. I add the leave in while in the shower. I twist each section and allow my leave in to marinate (that's what I call it). I then go back in and add my mousse. I don't like the dry feeling. If I have a really special event, I may skip this step. Also when using mousse, don't overlap any sections with mousse. Wipe your hands before starting different sections to that each section can be detangled. If not, mousse starts to set your hair as soon as it touches etc.

My hair’s essential elements are nearly identical to yours, so I’m hoping the mousse will work out just as beautifully for me. Your videos are so well done and thorough. And you help me feel less weird about my indecisiveness 😅
    I don’t cowash anymore, but when I did, Oyin Handmade’s ginger mint cowash was my jam. It’s more of a cleansing conditioner though, since it contains cocoamidopropyl (sp?) betaine. But it left my hair just as moisturized and hydrated as a straight-up conditioner would. Plus, it contains hydrolyzed oat protein, which gave my hair a touch of strength and elasticity.

Only thing is the smell is a strong fruity type of smell that does linger especially when using the curl slime In conjunction which I absolutely love that every time I shake my head I can get whiff of my hair, but I know lots of people are scent sensitive or don’t like strong scents.

      Mmmm I honestly prefer Olaplex. They both do different things and are both good products but I don’t like that I have to leave on the K18, and that I can’t use a deep conditioner with it without feeling like I’m essentially wasting the K18. The company says that you can rinse it out after four minutes of leaving it in the hair, but since they prefer that it’s used as a leave in product I hate rinsing it out because it is one of the most expensive products I use. I feel like I’m wasting money by essentially rinsing it down the drain. so those are my thoughts on that currently. 🖤

      My goal was to see if I could get away with using light products and get great volume and definition. But at this point, I’ve learned that moisturizers and creams are not just optional, but necessary for my hair health and my desired result (fluffy but with more definition and hold) So I will be integrating curl creams into the mix! They are coming out mostly fluffy, but that’s all in the name of experimentation! Thanks for sharing that great pov 🙌🏾

    Great video as usual ❤ i have some questions . 1. Do you love co washing ? I find that i get build up pretty easy , plus i can get a irritated scalp . 2. Why not use a gel under your mouse for extra hold unless thats not what your going for . Awhile ago i watched ayesha do a wash and go with uncle funkys and ag moose , and it gave her day 3 hair on day 1 . Also ive been detangling before i wash my hair , i use the pattern beauty detangling necter. So by the time i shampoo and condition its already detangled. I try to be as efficient as possible because i have 2 girls with very long curly hair lol 😅 so i barely have time for my hair , but i try not to go over 5 days .

    • @BrittanyMia

      I love cowashing because it adds immediate moisture to my curls in between shampooing. It’s helping to mitigate some of the dryness that I was experiencing while doing this mousse only wash and go series. I also do not put the conditioner on my scalp. I just focusing on my hair and water wash my scalp.
      Right now I’m moving away from gels and trying different styling products to test and see what my preference is. Gel can give great hold, but I’m not currently seeking a strong hold. There are gels that do not give such a strong hold but again I’m just testing out different stylers at this time. I’ve heard great things about the detangling nectar so it’s on my radar. Thanks for sharing!

    • @BrittanyMia
      @BrittanyMia  Рік тому +3

      I’m not 100% sure on this. Shampooing, probably not. But cowashing is different. However, there is potential damage from simply wetting the hair daily from the cuticle opening and swelling so often. My thoughts are using a bond builder conditioner would help with that, but there are conflicting ideas between different professionals on the matter.
      I probably wouldn’t be doing it everyday. More like 4 to 5 days a week since that’s my workout schedule.

I got my first ever curly trim (Tippi Shorter/Hair Love KC) and for the FIRST TIME EVER….I didn’t have EVEN ONE FAIRY KNOT!!!!! I could have gone out in public with my Day One Wash and Go!! My hair looks fabulous!!!!! Keep the videos coming!!!!!

    One thing that is important to note, is mousses have the most water content, than any styler. The hair is meant to be light, hydrated, and with hold. Most have their holding agents lower in the formulation, but design essentials/the Doux/Nairobi all have their holding agents within the first 4 ingredients. Doing the hair every day, is just so much. Especially if the cowash doesn't have cleansing agents. So the conditioner is just adding to the product lol. Mousses will never weigh the hair down and give you the feeling of a cream or gel. If you want more oil rich products, then use them. But make sure, you're using the appropriate cleanser and conditioner afterwards. It's all about technique

    • @BrittanyMia
      @BrittanyMia  Рік тому +1

      Water washing is a thing. I am adding more product but product is also rinsed out during water washing. Not completely ofc. I wasn’t really expecting the mousse to do what a cream or gel does. I hadn’t had enough experience with mousse alone to know what it would do. But now I know lol. And I’ll be using more oil rich products as you mentioned and implementing the proper shampoo and conditioner for these products. Thanks for sharing 😊.

    I think in this case your hair wasn’t “moisturized” because you didn’t condition properly. The styling phase is just that, the conditioning/detangling phase is a precursor no matter what product you use. If that step isn’t done properly your styling phase will be difficult and the overall wash & go isn’t going to give favorable results.

    Just a reminder to everyone, a leave in conditioner is not needed. The only thing that can moisturize your hair is water. Normal conditioner seals that moisture and that's all you need. I havent used a leave in for about a year now and my wash and go last for 7 days. I now use mousse but I always use a topper gel to give me more of a hold and that has made my hair last very long.

    • @BrittanyMia
      @BrittanyMia  Рік тому +34

      I respectfully disagree. I don’t think that conditioner is all that is needed for everyone. I think that it works for many many people. However, not everyone. My hair responds better to using a leave-in conditioner. Is it needed always, no. But for me, it’s preferred to maintain hydration. To me, that’s like taking a shower and not putting lotion on. Or putting the lotion on and then rinsing it off again.
      Hydration is about moisture absorption, but moisturization is about moisture retention. I think products with a strong hold can do a good job of retaining that moisture, but products that do not have a strong hold don’t. I do not like a strong hold so therefore, I am not retaining much moisture without a moisturizer. This is just what I found for myself as I’m experimenting with my hair.

      I understand we do what we think is right for our hair hence the reason why you say you use leave in conditioners for extra hydration and it always feels right to add it. I was once like this too. Ive spent 2 years of my life wasting money on items I don't even need because I thought I was helping my hair. I thought I knew my hair more than anyone. There are 2 stylists on Instagram that are called black girl curls and I thought it was crazy for them to say such a thing because I thought leave INS are additional moisture. But after reading their online guide and tried it myself only using a botanical and a topper gel (I've seen you have used this combo many many times) , Ive noticed my hair lasted long and I had no need to stretch my hair anymore plus my hair felt great without it.I haven't looked back since and I no longer use deep conditioners unless I am preparing for after a style take down I know this is a topic where people will agree to disagree but putting leave in after you have already sealed with a conditioner doesn't do anything. I know it feels that way because our hair is much more softer after the application with wet hair, but your conditioner has already done its Job. I can understand using it after washing because it's still a conditioner and you need something to seal in that moisture. We only get moisture from water after we cleanse our hair and all the conditioner does is seal that water/moisture. I know this is an agreed to disagree thing, but I just wanted to explain this.

    • @cydashlee
      @cydashlee Рік тому

      @@JM_408 Gel does not lock any moisture in your hair. We only get moisture from water after we've cleansed and it is sealed with conditioner. I don't normally use mousse but I am trying to use up the remaining Paul Mitchell that was bought. I normally and usually only use botanical gels and topper gels. But those things don't matter if you are not applying the right technique. If I showed you a picture of my hair a year ago versus now with the same gel but better technique, you wouldn't believe me.
