This is something that confused me early on in the social media use. I stopped following some people they were so offended they no longer wanted to talk to me in real life. I had no idea social media was so important. These people didn’t not behave like they did in real life and I didn’t like it so I naively thought I could just hang out with them in real life. I did not believe online life was very important at all.

I've also encountered this manifestation and I think people perceive your media presence as an extension of self, meaning that gets integrated into their mental model of what they THINK you are. Too connected. I despise it. Much love, at least some of us are more alike than others. Assigned importance doesn't mean it is literally important, rather a derivative of perception such as those who OFTEN engage in social media and believe it matters that much for individual and group socialisation. So very connected through the abstraction, and algorithmically filtered until sterility of thought is achieved. The mirror image. People are only like this when they are accustomed to utilising those systems.

It's a proxy of real connection, but one that a person can see, and count, and brag about. They may have perceived you thought you were "too cool" to be seen as their friend online, and reacted accordingly.

@@biscuitsandthat I think you are confused. Dr. Peterson was saying that what you declare about yourself and who you are is irrelevant (even online) Your persona (not personality, but reputation or esteem) is attributed to you by others. You can declare you are trustworthy, but if nobody trusts you, then are you trustworthy? You can declare yourself nice, but if other's consistently call you a jerk, what's the truth? You can call yourself a good father, but if your kids say otherwise, it doesn't matter what you think. Reputation is earned and actions speak louder than words. It doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, it's what's on the inside that counts and we have to learn to love ourselves the way we are.

I don't think enough people realize that if they are online 24/7 then the probablity that they need a shower is known. It's good to realize that newer generations were conditioned to sew it this way. Neither a kid, not most teens are able to buy themselves smart phones or computers. This was done to them.

Half of Millennials never had smart phones in school, while another half did. Because of my Dysgraphia, I used a Laptop in High School, so I'm about 10 years ahead in technology trends. And I've opted to go with a flip phone, because I don't need constant attachment to the internet. My computer gets a lot of use, obviously, but unless it's phone calls, I don't really spend much time on phones. So I get a lot of social interaction.
With that said, the two and a half generations that grew up with the internet in their pocket, are warped because of it, because they've never been able to experience childhood. They never had play, but everything revolved around iPhones and idle chit chat. Jordan did a fine lecture on the importance of play, once, and I think we have an entire generation who just didn't do it. And probably got warped sexually, from exposure to easy access to porn. Not to mention, the damaging effect of social media.
Of course, Gen-Z and Alpha are going to be the most influenced by cell phones. Probably in history, as I see smart phones probably declining in popularity once the harmful psychological effects are well known.
And Video Games don't count. Beside Pac Man or Super Mario, there's nothing really good about them. They're violent, and probably the root cause of so many behavioral problems.

I disagree with your Video games point, it’s like everything in life. You need to balance out what you spend your time on. Video games have helped me in public speaking (leading 8 player raids and assaults) and working in teams (find out who’s the weakest link etc.). The biggest issue video games can present is unrealistic expectations to rewards etc. Because in a video game as long as you get the kill or capture the flag, XP is guaranteed, but in life that is not so.

    • @BKNeifert
      @BKNeifert Рік тому +1

@@dylanquinones-mattei2157 Truth hurts. Video Games and Crime going down are correlations. The real reason crime has gone down is because it's organized now. It's embedded in the system, and supported by politicians, unions, attorneys and police forces. It's a lot like Japan, actually.

No, I'm not 12. You puzzle me, how your mind works. But, that's exactly the kind of warp I'm talking about.
I probably am about 10 years ahead of the technology trends, too. I had a laptop on my person at all times in about 2004, and took it to school. That wouldn't become normal until about 2012. In fact, modern schools require that you have a device, and prefer it. So, let's just even it out at eight years, okay? Although, before that I had an Alpha Smart in Middle school, at sixth grade. Lol. I played Emulators constantly in 2009, and had an N64 and Super Nintendo Emulator which I played with an X-Box 360 controller I had plugged into my computer. That wouldn't become popular until just recently.

@@jtjones4081 Yeah... you're probably right. But, nobody knew about the damaging effects it would have. That's like Cocaine when it first came out, everyone thought it was a wonder drug, and improved cognition, and had all these health benefits. They even put it in the drinks. It's not their fault. Smarter people can see it---like I love that scene in Red Dead Redemption where the guy's shooting up, but the Indian schools him on the buffalo; it's a perfect metaphor for how stupid scientists are---but it's not common to have people who can see those trends.
And talking about Ted Kaczynski, he actually could, but ruined his own vision by hurting other people in order to promote it. That's why his ideas never solidified, and people weren't warned. Maybe they could have been, if he were a responsible writer. Who knows? But that's the point I'm trying to make. Writing is a responsibility, and if you know something so important, you can't jeopardize it. You have to do it the right way. Otherwise, it could lead to cataclysmic effects later on down the road.

Easier said than done Jordan Peterson and Bret Weinstein, I was born in 93 and for the most part of my early life I had no connection to technology. I was a religious and quiet boy. As soon as I turned 12 my step father gave me a laptop. Mostly I used it for video games, RuneScape, grand chase mostly but I also used it scarcely to look at images of “boobs” or “hot women”. I made a persona on the internet that can talk to random people and share ideas. In real life I don’t like connecting with random people I rather keep them just that random people. I’m 29 now and I still find myself “talking” more online to random people than in real life. It’s weird that I rather have an empire in the virtual world then in the real world.

It's true that people can easily alter how they present themselves online, but at the same time, people also tend to be harsher judges when they interact online, especially if they are posting behind a pseudonym. It's much easier to call someone out on their delusion compared to if you were doing it in person because there's a greater sense of anonymity so the potential backlash of being individually targeted is supressed.

This topic is a big deal for the average person and not just people exploiting gender extremes and stereotypes. Kids today have the whole world to pick from; being able to associate with people anywhere on the planet. We - people our age - 50 to 60-ish, had the constraints of proximity and the feedback for how we behave in the day-to-day DOING of life. When you work with people in situations of mutual investment - that's who you really are and how you learn about yourself, in real-time. So now people who are in business need to abstract and symbolize stuff they never needed to think about aka personal branding. And young people are choosing abstractions to present without having the real-world experience to line up a theoretically chosen "ideal". Of course, I'm not saying kids today have no real-world life but the proportion of unselfconscious doing is so small compared to making presentations and manufacturing symbols of identity. I'm not complaining just saying this is a big shift.

I agree but the reflection of my online persona is more accurate then the online world is a reflection of the real world. Without internet almost nobody would be bothered with pronouns and sex change for example. I literally know 0 trans people like most of us. But because of all the attention that number is probably going to increase. Some problems are only problems when you pay enough attention to them. Internet is perfect for doing that.

The kids jumped on the internet first. Some of the adults came along after the kids had established the landscape. I mean UA-cam was ran by kids, it's not until the podcast movement came along that there has been any order on the platform and that's only UA-cam. Reddit is the new established landscape for the kids and Reddit is far more pathological than any of the Adults have yet to realize. In terms of building an online persona, Reddit is the place to establish it. Right now the source of all this mess comes from Reddit. I can assure you on that.

    • @oceanliketeacher
      @oceanliketeacher Рік тому

UA-cam was not run by kids, it was run by adults. Kids (teens) "played" on the platform, they provided content (and still do, in addition to others). The service was never run by kids, ever.
And reddit is not the source, it is a symptom. The source is human nature put into certain constraints (like the reddit forum) and then playing out its needs and wishes.

    • @trinsic6652
      @trinsic6652 Рік тому

@MomsSpaghetti I don't mean literally ran by kids. I mean it was a platform with mostly kids and teens as content creators and kids and teens as the audience. But in terms of Reddit, it is no symptom, it's a platform purely designed to express your internet persona. Twitter is related too much to the real world, same with Facebook and instagram. UA-cam is for the popular. Reddit is for anyone and no one. You can be anyone on there. You can run purely online communities on there. You can't tell me that isn't the source of people creating their online personas. It's the platform most divorced from reality.

THIS all happened during Bret Weinstein's watch at Evergreen State, arguably, making the situation worse in the process of trying to 'negotiate' with children. Suggesting that the internet is postmodernist by conception and consumption merely sets the stage for declaring mass formation psychosis to occur to anyone without 'qualifications' to declare otherwise.
There are bigger things at play here, and Bret's lack of response to JP's claim that his avatars are more powerful than 'he', should illuminate Bret's postmodernism scapegoat. (Internet is corrupt and corporations are all bad mmmkay)
Let me guess, the man from the government has a plan to make all the suffering cease?

Don't fail the Law of Moses 🇮🇱 (knowing Good from Evil):
Genesis 1 is God 😇 (Elohim in Hebrew and Theos in Greek).
Genesis 2 is that ancient serpent called the Devil and Satan 👿 (Yahweh in Hebrew and Kurios in Greek).
    Genesis 3 has a clever snake 🐍
(the snake knew Elohim, of Genesis 1, from Yahweh of Elohim, of Genesis 2.
So, the snake passed the Law of Moses 🇮🇱.)
What is the difference between Elohim and Yahweh?
According to the documentary hypothesis, these variations are the products of different source texts and narratives that constitute the composition of the Torah: Elohim is the name of God used in the Elohist (E) and Priestly (P) sources, while Yahweh is the name of God used in the Jahwist (J) source.
    Who was Yahweh originally?
Yahweh was originally described as one of the sons of El in Deuteronomy 32:8-9, but this was removed by a later emendation to the text. With the notable exception of Yahweh himself, the deities worshipped by Israel were also Canaanite. These included El, the ruler of the pantheon, Asherah, his consort, and Baal.
    How did Yahweh become god?
"Yahweh" was differentiated out of "Yahu" by the etymologizing fancy of the priests of the sanctuary of Sinai in the land of Mutsri. The Calebite clans in the south of Judah, whose arms placed David on the throne, worshiped this god; and when David became king, he made Yahweh the national god of Israel.

[Elohim (God) from Genesis 1 vs
Yahweh (ancient serpent called the Devil and Satan) from Genesis 2]
      Compare these two verses:
      2 Samuel 24:1
      Names of God Bible
      David’s Sin-He Takes a Census
24 Yahweh became angry with Israel again, so he provoked David to turn against Israel. He said, “Go, count Israel and Judah.”
      and
      1 Chronicles 21:1
      Names of God Bible
      David Counts the People
21 Satan attempted to attack Israel by provoking David to count the Israelites.
It's important to note that different scholars and theologians have different interpretations of the relationship between Elohim (Genesis 1) and Yahweh (Genesis 2) in the Hebrew Bible, and there is no consensus on whether they are different deities or different names for the same deity.
However, here are five hypothetical reasons some scholars might consider:
      1. Different Title/Name: The title and name Elohim and Yahweh are distinct, and they are used in different contexts throughout the Hebrew Bible. Some scholars argue that this suggests that they represent different conceptions of the divine, and that they might have originally been separate deities that were later merged.
      2. Different Characteristics: Elohim is often portrayed as a more distant, transcendent deity, while Yahweh is portrayed as a more personal, immanent deity. Some scholars argue that these different characteristics suggest that they are different deities.
      3. Different Origins: Some scholars argue that the name Yahweh is associated with the southern kingdom of Judah, while the name Elohim is associated with the northern kingdom of Israel. This difference in origin could suggest that they were originally separate deities worshipped by different communities.
      4. Different Roles: Elohim is often associated with creation and judgment, while Yahweh is often associated with salvation and redemption. Some scholars argue that these different roles suggest that they are different deities with distinct spheres of influence.
      5. Different Historical Contexts: The use of the name Elohim is more prevalent in the early books of the Hebrew Bible, while the name Yahweh becomes more prominent in later books. Some scholars argue that this suggests that the conception of the divine changed over time, and that Elohim and Yahweh might represent different deities worshipped at different points in history.

[YHWH or LORD "Yahweh", that ancient serpent called the Devil and Satan (from Genesis 2), accepts a child/virgin sacrifice where a father literally slaughters his own daughter]:
(not to be confused with God "Elohim" or Spirit of God "Ruach Elohim" from Genesis 1)
      Judges 11
      Names of God Bible
      Jephthah’s Vow
29 Then the RUACH YAHWEH came over Jephthah. Jephthah went through Gilead, Manasseh, and Mizpah in Gilead to gather an army. From Mizpah in Gilead Jephthah went to attack Ammon.
30 Jephthah made a vow to YAHWEH. He said, “If you will really hand Ammon over to me, 31 then whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me when I return safely from Ammon will belong to YAHWEH. I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering.”
32 So Jephthah went to fight against Ammon. YAHWEH handed the people of Ammon over to him. 33 He defeated them from Aroer to Minnith and on to Abel Keramim, 20 cities in all. It was a decisive defeat. So the Ammonites were crushed by the people of Israel.
34 When Jephthah went to his home in Mizpah, he saw his daughter coming out to meet him. She was dancing with tambourines in her hands. She was his only child. Jephthah had no other sons or daughters. 35 When he saw her, he tore his clothes in grief and said, “Oh no, Daughter! You’ve brought me to my knees! What disaster you’ve brought me! I made a foolish promise to YAHWEH. Now I can’t break it.”
36 She said to him, “Father, you made a promise to YAHWEH. Do to me whatever you promised since YAHWEH has punished your enemy Ammon.” 37 Then she said to her father, “Do me a favor. Give me two months for my friends and me to walk in the mountains and mourn that I will never have an opportunity to get married.”
38 “Go!” he said, and he sent her off for two months. She and her friends went to the mountains, and she cried about never being able to get married. 39 At the end of those two months she came back to her father. He did to her what he had vowed, and she never had a husband. So the custom began in Israel 40 that for four days every year the girls in Israel would go out to sing the praises of the daughter of Jephthah, the man from Gilead.
