you know, at first, I was going to say "Well, of course, they're not cursed, this game is based in reality", then I remembered the Giants, the aliens, Bigfoot... Yeah they are definitely cursed
Such reality. I’ve always wanted two magical guns to appear on my back.
And the time traveler, and death himself
Every Rockstar game is cursed lmao
they did a great job of making it so realistic that they took the opportunity to bring urban legends to life.
Anytime there is a reference to something supernatural in a rockstar game, it’s probably true in one way or another.
It's honestly hilarious that you have to do a whole questline proving to these people that their groundwater is poisoned and a corporation is trying to cover it up, but that they're still right about being cursed.
Honestly that's a pretty genius move for the entity controlling the curse lol
Fucked from the back end and the front end.

It’s both.
It’s kinda obvious when you think about the fact that they never investigated any of it stupid is an actual curse.
I love how the game kinda caters to everyone in the sense that if you want a logical resolution to most of the plotlines then you'll find it on the surface level. However, if you like the more paranormal and conspiracy oriented plot devices then you can find plenty of them after a bit of digging. I'm not a huge fan of paranormal themes and really just wanted a good cowboy game, but I appreciate that they found ways to include it for anybody that is. 11/10 Absolute gem of a game
Ik old comment but man it is such a gem , so many new things I didn't find my first playthrough. I just wanted to play the main story and the quest along the way. But seeing all these secrets is baffling
I’m replaying the story cause the first time I rushed through it. So many details I’ve missed, game is truly one of the best ever made. I appreciate rockstar for taking their time on these games. That’s what makes them one of the best 🫡

The creepiest thing I've seen in Butchers Creek is that if you go to the shed at the highest area in the village there's blood infront of a haybale, if you climb over them you can see an even bigger pool of blood and someone's clothes on a haybale.
Maybe theres a body in the haybale? i think i remember a episode of bones where they found a body in the halebale, but i dont remember
I think that's where they wash up after butching animals but hey
One more thing you forgot to mention is that sometimes, while you're tracking snakes, they will mysteriously die. It's happened to me and I was always bewildered, but played it off like a glitch or another animal killed the snake

Still feel like the pentagram's placement next to the R was a deliberate R* reference that also happened to work well with the theme of the town.
Agreed. It's just R for Rock and a pentagram for the star
I was just about to comment this myself.
I dont think it's a reference to this. A better one would be to just simply place a star on a big rock. Or a star shaped rock.
Yeah I think you are right but they also turnt it into a cursed place just because they can.
Pentagram is totally different from R*
Laughed so hard when I discovered the 'shaman' is just a guy from the mining company who grew his hair long and put on a tunic. I decided I wanted retribution after the last mission and I lassoed him as he was stumbling away. It was then my map lit up with red dots and I realised the whole village had turned on me, was pretty terrifying. Especially when I hadn't discovered the banjo guy at that point and he came straight at me from the shadows 😰
Jabba The Banjo Playing Hutt.😲
Yep I wanted to kill him so bad, but he just runs around the town screaming. So unless you want to fight the whole town you gotta let him live.
Hes already dead as arthur/john made him drink poison
I always just tackle him and knock him out. The villagers don't attack me if that's all I do.

Man I stumbled across the Elysian Pool Cave trying to find the Poisonous Trail Treasure I think. Just followed the rivers to look for falls. It was the first one I found and I figured out the story of the miners likely destroying the area that was previously home to the Natives, hence the cave paintings. And just exploring the cave and realizing I hit a dead end then setting a marker exactly where I couldn’t go further and going above ground to find the abandoned mine, piecing together the story of the pollution... It was so satisfying. And there is soooo much of that kind of visual storytelling in the game it’s incredible. It’s IMO the best game ever.
Wait a minute - could that be the source of the curse then? They moved onto what was once Native land?
@@spawnglance6720 could be something from the natives? as far i know building something on a natives graveyard will anger their spirits and haunt the people living there
I forgot how bad John was at sketching lol
I mean, it's hard to draw good to be completely fair to John, takes a lot of damn practice
Every time I play I have to get near black water and have Arthur draw the circus wagon. I get taken out but it’s worth it
yeah me to its like a child sketch that imen less smart then Arthur
@@erenyeager3829 That is true, but you'd expect at least a little improvement over time. Unless he has no innate talent for drawing and the ability to translate lines and shapes into reality. Which is also fair to John, not everyone has the eye for that.
Don’t know what’s worse , his sketches or his swimming
Probably has something to do with the whole Dreamcatchers quest. After you've found all of them, you can enter the cave at the same Elysian pool and find the Arrowhead by the ancient paintings. These villagers or the miners might have done something to anger the spirit in that cave. The cave is connected to the very same Lead mine (as it also appears on the mini map that there is a whole other system of tunnels you can't go into while being in the Elysian pool waterfall cave), the same poisoned water can be seen leaking all over the cave. But hey that's just a theory.
I mean hey.. those charms are made similar to the dreamcatchers...
What if butcher creek once started to mine in there and poisoned the nature like that...? I mean yeah i know its called BUTCHERS creek but...who knows.....that would be at least a reason
Nice theory
I wouldn't be surprised if the Strange Man did this as well. But another thing I would like to add:
The star symbol is also refering to the Seal of Solomon. This was used in order to *command demons* and talking to the animals around us. This symbol is strange that it appears in the game, because we have the Veves in the game, that was used in that ritual we can find in the game which isn't really explained as we have no idea what the whole ordeal was about that ritual, and, we have the Viking Runic Alphabet (even though they claim it's actually a misspelling of Phoenican instead)
What do these things have in common? They are all used for magic. Magic seems to be a thing in the RDR lore.
What is even cooler to know if you are interested, is there is an actual alchemic person in this game that blows himself up when you reach the building where his/her lab is supposed to be. Gold was made there. Gold, happens to have..you guessed it, magical capabilities in ancient cultures. Plus the fact, that if you put the chemical lead in this perspective, the Seal of Solomon, has also an importance in alchemy, which is, to create gold as that is the mastery of an alchemist. Cool right?
@@GaiaLegendYour alchemy theory explained why this particular house in Butcher's Creek is all burned up .
I think that Roanoke in the game is just otherworldly to me, completely bizarre in nature (even more so than the swamp). Asteroids falling, whispering trees, peculiar ancient evidences scattered all over. Heck, it's the best hunting ground aswell with all the rare animals you can find there. The name Butcher's Creek probably came from the fact that this village butchered so many animals there since they don't cultivate or planting anything.
I saw a comment somewhere that said the pentagram might be an Easter egg hinting towards Rockstar Games since it’s right under the R. I do however still believe that the true curse of the village are those damn goats knocking you over every time you get off your horse.
DAMN GOATS!!!!!! BLEEEEEET!
Goats do that everywhere I go, and I shoot the fuckers every time they do.

I figured the woman and villagers were referring to the Murfrees when they mentioned demons - because the Murfrees came in the night and stole people who were either never seen again or were pressganged into the brood. I thought killing Walt Murfree would be a quest but he's just mentioned in that note and never again. I wonder if he appears in the game files but was left out, like the talking parrot?
you are partially right and wrong.
The damn Murfrees are just tools of the same damn demons!

For those that keep saying it’s a rockstar Easter egg. That might be it but it’s linked to the braithwaite girl locked in the outhouse. There are 5 outhouses around butcher creek and when lining them up it forms a pentagram. The outhouse she’s locked in also points towards butcher creek.
Oh my I just now notice that wow
She also counts to 5 , which is the only pattern in her counts., except that she does say 6, three times. In butcher creek the number of outhouses is 5, each outhouse is numbered inside of them, 6 6 6 is the sign of the beast. The Braithwaite girl is possessed, she even alludes to the exorcist. The Serial killer also seems to fit in more or less as well as the weird house with the frankenstein monster/Golem whatever..... more than one thing can be true, the mine poisons and the curse, and if they are cursed wouldn't it make sense the mine was also cursed and than their water supply? These folk at Rockstar are devious , their easter eggs are of the Russian nesting sort, many inside the one... I suspect there may even be more to this theme of demons in the world.
Underrated commentary.
I am investigating the general large crossings of all the major paranormal sites in game and the UFO site is fairly central. I think that cult is more insidious than the night walkers skinners or murders, or than we realize.
What with the poisoned water, pentagram, Murfrees, whispering woods and the Manmade Mutant all within the Roanoke area, it certainly gives credibility of there actually being a curse upon that part of the map.
I am also reminded of a video uploaded here on UA-cam of unused audio in the game files that sound like they belong to some sort of monster (and not the river monster either, these are different audio files) which makes me wonder if maybe - big maybe - Rockstar intended to put some sort of cryptid into the game (possibly within the Roanoke area) as well, but then decided against it.
The man made mutant was supposed to come alive. It had a fully functioning PED in the game files. Too bad it never happened.

I wish there was something more to it, i really want to know how curse affect these people (other than roanoke fuel company), more backstory to it. My personal theory since we have no other paranormal spirit or being in RDR2 is strange man did deal with or roanoke fuel company or one of these villagers. Just like what he did to these 2 towns in new austin. This topic is so interesting that i would beg for more clues to be found or being made by Rockstar, great video as usual, chills were guaranteed due to fantastic music and audio in background you implemented there. Your editing skills, ability to make 10 minutes or more of video out of one single piece of dust or dirt in game is absolutely amazing and never ceases to amaze me. I've been binge watching ur vids and I cant believe how awesome they are. Every one of them is edited and put together in a way that really brings out the emotion of the situation. Great work.
After the mission, I thought about this ambiguity between the rational explanation that all this was only a poisoning of the waters. And the curse theory, which still holds for two reasons: the very strange pentagram that seems to light up with an unnatural light, and the idea that the accident in the mine was a consequence of their curse. Because you have to be cursed, somewhere, to have your environment polluted because of a hazard.
When you're really bored and strange man just releases another video. I can tell without watching this will be an amazing video, this dude needs more attention!
I was watching one of the vids from this channel. Refreshed it real quick from scrolling and boom. New vid lol.

It's a solid theory i'll give you that, but. All the animals around, including fish are mangy and poisoned. I don't have an explanation for the pentagram but this demon curse theory it's a bit ass pulled in my humble opinion. There some strange things happening in RDR2 indeed, the pegan ritual, the Bigfoot, aliens, the panoramic map and all the other chilling stuff. Butcher Creek being around the Elysian pool, a lake poisoned with arsenic and lead it's a clear explanation why the people are sick and mad. Plus the fact that they are hillbillies, not the smartest inbred bunch after all, of course they believed the "shaman" feeding them lies about demons lurking in the shadows (the mangy dogs attacking in the night). Telling them not to go to the abandoned mine where the toxins pour downhill into the water, etc.
yeah but why is there a glowing red pentagram in the middle of town though
@@blockman3508 like i said, i don't have an explanation
@@blockman3508 it's just a Rockstar easter egg. The pentagram/star location on the map is right at the bottom right-hand side of the "R" like the Rockstar logo
I agree I don't think they're at all cursed, just poisoned and not very bright. I think the pentagram is just another easter egg that happens to be near by and people want it to be connected to each other. But (as far as I know) there's no other proof that they're cursed. The only "proof" is the pentagram that's near by. (Unless, of course, I missed other proof.) I mean the Shaman even admitted it was poison....
@@stylisticsguy3746 Well it is a mark of the Devil, and the dogs only attack at night when the pentagram is present. Otherwise they would be constantly attacking no matter what time it is. Probably a wrathful spirit/demon influencing the events around the pool and the creek

I just completed this mission well after finishing the epilogue and soon after finding the weird shaped trees. I didn't know any of this existed. I'm still only at 85% complete and guaranteed this area will creep me out the most going forward. Even more than the Tall Trees. It's just so unsettling with everything you stumble across in the area. In the dialogue it was mentioned even lawmen won't venture that way and maybe for more reason than the Brood, who totally gave me a jump scare last night just showing up at my campsite threatening me being around there haha. This game is seriously the best.

You mean a bad night
I did the wisdom of the eldors mission just after I had gone hunting for treasure in the cave behind the elysian pool, and when you have to go looking for stuff in their mines, I relised it was the same cave. And the animals around there are always low quality, but does anyone know why the Murfree Brood lets these people live here, same as the people in tall trees? If not can somebody please look into this. I'm really happy that you're uploading again Strange Man. Have a great day everyone and stay safe.
Edit: I also realised that the water in the cave was orange and was full of rats when I went treasure hunting, but never relised it was poison till i did the mission
In my opinion, it's at least partly because they're "locals". I'm not sure what R* intended the Roanoke area to actually be representative of, but as a native Kentuckian I can tell you that it is EXTREMELY indicative of poverty stricken areas in far eastern KY/western WV and Virginia, which are known for being a part of "mining country". There is even a town in the western portion of Virginia name Roanoke.
The tribal mentality of people in these rural areas is far more extreme than any other place I've visited, and the poverty level in many areas would be shocking to anyone who doesn't know to expect it. We went to far eastern KY to visit a dying relative who was a local. We got lost on a backroad, and were interrogated (in a very hostile manner) about what we were doing in the area - up until it was stated that we were relatives of a local, at which point we were greeted again without hostility and helped. During our stay, I could see a clear divide with anyone I spoke to - the local town/people were okay, but anything outside the immediate area was met with some level of hostility.
It may just be the similarities to my experiences, but this is honestly what it seems like to me. The people of Butchers Creek appear to share their same level of poverty and general way of life, minus the raping, murdering, and torturing, which would probably incite less anger with the Murfree Brood. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Brood and people of Butchers Creek were related by blood, with those of the Brood having originally been townsfolk from Butchers Creek that splintered off.
@@akriandurin151 Thanks, that was very nice to know 😊
One time I had a Murfree brood encounter near the elysian pool and I killed them, and then some random people on the docks just started shooting at me and John said "so you got friends huh?" And I also found a dead body under a table on the same dock area later, so I kind of just assume the Murfree brood and the people of Butcher creek are related.
The treasure is called “the poison trail” ;)
@@akriandurin151 while that would be a possibility that the Murfrees we're originally residents of Butcher Creek, it's said that the Murfrees were a respected and wealthy clan that lived on the frontier, but they were gradually forced off of their land when the Industrial Revolution hit Roanoke Ridge. After that, they drifted off to the caves, and made their home in Beaver Hollow.

I'm marathoning all your videos man, they're so interesting and your editing/sound direction make it so much more enthralling. well done.
Dang he doesn't just explains but also makes movie out of it
The choice of music for these mystery videos is amazing. As well as the edits that go along with it.
This channel is so underated it should have millions of subscribers one of the best channels I have ever seen
I’ve been going through and watching all your vids. These are so well thought out and well done. Opposite of MrBoss
Hey Strange man, I was playing through RDR2 SP campaign for the first time recently after enjoying RD:O for a long while. It occurred to me that RD:O takes place right before the Blackwater massacre. There's a lot of ambiguity about what happened there, and I have a theory. I believe that the cause of the Blackwater massacre is the RD:O characters. All online characters get quests by charging toward danger and events. There's no chance that Dutch's gang could have pulled off the heist without alerting a host of the online characters. Those characters would be a host of bounty hunters, rival gangs, and players who exist to cause mayhem. They would be a force of complete chaos and their presence there would invariably lead to a massive shootout. If it was a Pinkerton setup - they would have needed a lot of hired muscle and turned to the most likely candidates for that work. (RDO characters, again)
This explains why the heist failed, and why nobody knows for sure how or why it happened. The RDO characters showed up and started shooting each other, the police, the town, and Dutch's gang.
The end of the shootout is that all RD:O characters die (the massacre victims) and Dutch's gang lose their score with Pinkertons hot on their trail.
Everybody gangsta...
...Till the pentagram showed up.

I love how much work he puts into his videos and story
Your edits are mad clean especially like them when you’re showing a shoot out
I really love the shooting edits on this channel. Bam bam bam bam bam. Satisfying
Why am I addicted to your creepy RDR2 secrets vids? The fact that you add those dramatic music at the back makes everything so much more interesting lol
Amazing job with the background music. I know it takes effort to make a content like this, and not just for the sake of putting out a video, i appreciate it. Keep it up
I don’t know but this video came so quick.... strange. Love your vids!
That’s quality content right there💯💯
"I've got a gift MYSELF" **raises fist** I died laughing
This music/sound you've added really draws me in to watching this.
Damn you! Point me in the direction where this story starts and I'll explore it for myself.
Gotta say I love how this video is put together.
Its kind of cold where I live. Watching Rdr 2 Mysteries while in bed during a grey skie filled with rain clouds and just cold overall brings back amazing memories of Winter 2018 when this first came out... I wish I could be back im those days
I know you...
🤣🤣 jokes aside yesterday it was the first time that i knew anything about this channel and already saw all your videos.
Edit: great content i wanna see more of it. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That lady speaking by the camp fire in the beginning reminds me so much of Margaret from Resident Evil 7 lol
2:35 wow that gave me some undead nightmare vibes your editing skills are so good

in all seriousness that was pretty badass, almost felt like i was watching an epic movie teaser
Hey man, since you're already looking into the poisoning of the lake maybe you should've checked out the rural paintings inside the cave. For what I can tell, the paintings themselves signal the story of how the fauna started to get poisoned after all of those charms where placed on the shaman tree... Worth a look into! Maybe they are cursed after all, Ando from a long time ago if the paintings refer to it correctly
Nice find!
Years later , this game still amazes and surprises me , just an absolute masterpiece !
even without the most revolutionary ideas, Strange Man videos are extremely enjoyable.
Jesus some of Strange Man’s videos are scary. I’m a relatively strong, middle aged man and some of these vid’s have me glancing to either side whilst I’m watching them lol.. Great content!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Now that's some world-class cinematic editing! Nice work Strange Man.
07:42 "We're cursed" so funny xD
This exactly how every religion works. One of the best missions in the game.
Exactly
I have a separate theory. Prior to Arthur/John's interaction with the first random character mission for Butcher Creek, the "Shaman" had already been in Butcher Creek for at least quite a while. I reckon his original attempt was to scare the populace away by burning down one of the houses; most specifically the one with the pentagram underneath. After burning down the house he hid and noticed how they reacted hoping to be scared away. Instead he noticed they didn't go away permanently , and remained. However, in the chaos he was able to find out the people of Butcher Creek were very superstitious. Therefore, while the building was still smoking after the fire he painted the pentagram underneath the building (either by crawling or removing some of the planks of the house). He then came up with the idea of being a Shaman so he can "protect" the village, and revealed the pentagram's location, saying it was demons. The only thing this doesn't explain is that why the pentagram is very luminous, but this could be so any would be players can definitely see it, so we can speculate about it.
Cevans The poisoning could still be due to supernatural sources as any of the bad things happening could be. The shaman just happened to be a con man who saw an opportunity, but didn’t realize something really was going on. Just because the shaman is a con man doesn’t mean actual evil isn’t involved.
@@shawncook923 also glow ink hasn't been invented during that time period
2:30 the attention to detail such as that is the reason your channel is the best.
Bruh... this editing... top tier. Made it seem like a horror game lmao
This man deserves more subscribers he works so hard to give us these videos and I think he deserves more PS keep up the good work 👌🏽🔥
You also get "attacked" by an unknown spirit in the woods when you're destroying the signs, suggesting actual supernatural enemies

Dude your channel is insanely good, I really hope you're not putting all this work in by yourself because damn you must be overworked if you do.
You're using the RDR font, your videos have consistent audio levels, your videos are well organized, and you comprehensively
explain every extent of the easter egg you're exploring.
These look like official Rockstar videos, and your attention to detail is incredible!
Seriously amazing content.

Your video quality and editing is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay much better than other RDR2 YTbers who just like to steal contents. They explain to much but yours is straight to the point

was just replaying this game again and came across this video it really made me laugh how you managed to still make it creepy when those cutscenes for missions in that area are way too funny 😂😂
There's got to be a story of how the pentagram got there. There's probably clues as to who, why and when. There's a tally of 4 marked on the top of the burnt cabin and a horned skull mounted on the front from what i've seen. I'm gonna go take a look rn.
After a year.... He still never come back...
@@alaricpumani5372 haha i think I went investigating then got side tracked after 😂
@@thenickfoxx 🤣 totally fair hahaha. I try to activate something too. But I don't think that the skull mask have anything to do with it. As the mask found on another ritual (voodoo story Easter eggs line),who's also perfectly aligned to a creepy house in a swamp. (maybe throwing a bodies and shooting the bell will do something...) as the body of the mask ritual is half brutally eaten (without a heart too).
Also I found that in butcher creek they hide a standing behind a pack of horse food (sorry not English) on the pile we can see clothes and on the standing blood..... 🤔😏.
So maybe they were butcher people then being cursed for it, also in the pentagram chamber there is 1 broken bottles interesting ( quick relief of tuberculosis/cholera.... For human or...... BEAST)
