I mean, I think it's pretty obvious what happened after you find Dutch's wanted poster in Micah's camp.
He was planning on betraying them since Blackwater, he wanted to get all the money for himself.
He would get the money, and rat out the gang to the Pinkertons, both earning his freedom and getting rid of Dutch.
Only problem is that they hid the Blackwater money, and Micah didn't know where it was, so his plan had to be postponed.
That's why he was so insistent on getting Dutch to tell him where the money was.
He was probably planning to repeat the same thing with the Saint Denis bank robbery, that's why he was the only one wearing white, he probably agreed with Milton to not shoot him and wore white to differentiate himself from the rest.

The Saint Denis bank Robbery happened before he was picked up by Milton so I doubt that he cooperated with Milton on this one. I believe that he was also conspiring with Colm O’driscoll to turn Dutch and the gang in as well. The true purpose during the botched truce was only to capture Arthur and to have Micah lead them into a trap to find him, then turning the entire gang in for a reward. The only thing is that Micah didn’t believe Arthur would escape, so he was probably shitting himself the moment he limped back into camp. Colm even told Arthur what the plan was, but he didn’t directly refer to his partnership with Micah when he did. It’s also been speculated that Micah betrayed Colm and was the reason he got caught towards the end of the game. I also believe that the O’driscolls were also tipped off on the Blackwater ferry heist, and were some of those dead in the Massacre, the news article said about 22 total died of combined lawmen and outlaws, its safe to assume that Micah set up the ferry job to get both gangs killed or captured and run off with the money

I honestly think everytime Dutch and the gang got close to an opportunity to settle down somewhere he always found an excuse why it wasn't good enough and they should keep looking is because Dutch never wanted to give up the life of an outlaw. I think it's hinted at in Arthur's journal where he says "we found some land but Dutch got spooked and said we were being watched" I think Dutch made up an excuse because deep down he never wanted to stop doing the things he's been doing all of his life. So I think Dutch never wanted to settle down move away and be free. I think he always wanted to be the outlaw and he mentions multiple times "outlaws for life".

I agree! Even Milton accuses him of being nothing but a killer when the Pinkertons show up to the Rhodes camp and the look on Dutch's face pretty much says "He's seen right through me..."
When I read that line in Arthur's journal about "Dutch getting spooked", I got the same impression you did. There was no way Dutch was ever going to actually go through with farming mangoes in Tahiti - If the Saint Denis heist did go well, he would have found some excuse to keep on living the outlaw life.

People try to romanticize Dutch and justify what he did, but that's bullshit. He identified and teamed up with Micah because he's just like Micah, he wanted to be like him, but was stuck in this life of being a leader, maybe because he wasn't sure how he wanted to be or because Hosea had a different nature, but this spirit of being a cold killer that no matter who dies while he steals has always been inside him, John and Arthur had a little talk about it, I don't remember who it was, but one of them said he thought he was always like that. He was closeted because of the gang, as doing horrible things that he wanted to do would only turn people off, because of course he liked to be admired by being a leader. Micah appeared to exalt that side of him, so much so that he accepted with virtually no resistance, even accepting the others in Micah's gang over John and Arthur. It's like some people who choose what to do in college, some spend their lives thinking they want it, but in the end they give up, or see that it's not what they wanted.

Here’s what we can imply based off what we know:
Charles: Burned his hand just prior to the heist, and most likely acted as a diversion to help the rest of the gang escape after Dutch shot Heidi. We can assume this because after the robbery in Saint Denis, he also helps the gang escape. Also, he is very often paired with Arthur when they need to track someone down, or move camp. He is instrumental in getting the gang to safety.
Sean: Was involved when the heist went wrong as he describes it as ‘chaos’ to Arthur in chapter 3. However, he got knocked out either on the ferry, or near Blackwater and came to after the gang moved, as he recalls not seeing anybody. He was arrested soon after.
Jenny, Karen, Tilly, and Mary: Most likely were the initial distractions to guards before the heist started. Abigail was watching over Jack.
Micah: Instigated the chaos. We know this because in a camp interaction in chapter 3 Hosea refers to them being on the run because of a “bad call” he made. Micah most likely snapped when a gang member was caught. I assume Jenny was in trouble, as she was first to die-and Dutch took Heidi hostage and killed her in retaliation.
Bill, Javier, Mac, and Davey: Were the main robbers and guns of the operation. they were in charge of getting the loot out safe.
John and Micah: Were Dutch’s most trusted to be by his side deal with the storeroom where all the money was kept

I remember feeling surprised my first playthrough because the writing of the game was pretty good overall, but that part was out of place. I don't mean to defend Dutch, but Arthur was uncharacteristically stupid and naiive in thinking that that lady guide in Guarma wasn't going to betray them. Sure, killing her in cold blood was questionable, but she was 100% going to be a liability if they just let her go. She was demanding more payment, and Dutch said he didn't have any more salvaged gold left on him, so if they didn't deal with her there one way or another, she would've called the soldiers on them.

*When "picking up" something is used like that in a sentence, it means retrieval, not acquisition*
"Picking up" Micah after Guarma, doesn't mean he began there. People keep saying that was the start of the treachery and just explain the rest away to poor judgment. Reallyyy though? The gang become masters of their trade over the course of decades, and they get overwhelmed once and the end begins? Nah, when "picking up" something is used like that in a sentence, it means retrieval, not acquisition. They acquired Micah, and then set him loose, then
picked him up, updated, then set him off again, before picking him up again, repeat. Just like actual undercover assets have always worked. It only seems like this was a "one time" arrangement because Micah acts like a real outlaw the rest of the game. In reality, Micah's behavior as an outlaw is actually his constant struggle of *self-preservation.* The "Team Switcher" to whoever was in the lead. Often using both of them. His was a temperamental law asset at best, hence only the occasional meetings.
Micah's suspicious disappearances throughout the game.
    1. Before the game
Micah conveniently meets Dutch at bar, joins the gang, suggests the ferry, ferry job is a Pinkerton trap.
*Note* A trap.. For what? Dutch's gang had been active sporadically all over the West for years. Going East to West Elizabeth, they had lost so much heat, they literally camped in the outskirts of the town and could walk around downtown like citizens without worry. The Pinkertons didn't just randomly choose a potential target in a still growing town on the other side of the country to specifically catch a group of criminals who did not specialize in heavy robbings such as the ferry. Arthur even mentions that over the span of two decades, they would only rob a bank every couple of years. None as significant as Saint Denis or Blackwater. More like Valentine (and look how easy they got away with that). The ferry wasn't even a concern for the gang at first, focusing instead on real estate scams. That was until Micah was suddenly introduced and began incessantly pushing the idea forward to Dutch. Somebody notified the Pinkerton's, and a larger plan had been set in motion.
    2. Prologue
No activity, Micah was trapped with the gang in the snow and he was always around. *The one chapter the gang just walks away rather than being found and chased by the law.*
    2. Valentine
Micah immediately leaves to go scouting nearby with Lenny. Winds up in a different state, far beyond their original mission (Lenny even mentions how confused he was because of this). Micah encounters some old gang members and gets arrested. This is the "distraction" Rockstar uses for Arthur (The player's) attention. Micah went this far, meeting old gang members. In reality, Micah was meeting the Pinkertons. The gang's trail had been lost, the money was lost, Micah wasn't reaping any benefits. Not being able to contact them directly and not knowing where to look for him, Micah shoots up an entire town for seemingly no reason other than to spur chaos before vanishing. But he doesn't vanish. He camps nearby for several days waiting for the insane incident in some small town in the middle of no where to attract some serious attention. The Pinkertons arrive to investigate, are immediately informed by everyone in the town that it was Micah, he is easily found nearby, and shortly after, the Pinkertons are openly approaching people around the gang's camp, in a different state. The Pinkertons didn't find the gang because of Cornwall, Cornwall randomly found the gang because of the Pinkertons and the new partnership formed from the robbery of his train in Ambarino. (In Annesburg, head agent Milton is even seen being scolded by Cornwall for lack of results.)
    3. Rhodes
Micah is absent for most of the chapter other than being seen around camp. Massive shootout in Rhodes, Pinkertons arrive shortly thereafter.
    4. Saint Denis
Micah spends time alone (even hearing of a stage coach from a man he was talking with in a bar, leading to him and Arthur robbing it). Saint Denis bank robbery. Its a trap.
5.The game explains it from here, during the separation of the Guarma survivors to eventually rendezvous at the new camp when it is located, Micah also contacts the Pinkertons. Yet again, Micah Bell is *picked up* after the Caribbean... And he leads them straight to the camp, literally.
During the final hours of the main story line. Micah disappears during a gunfight with Pinkertons in Annesburg and then meets up again with Dutch and Arthur before escaping. After a few more missions and another robbery, the Pinkertons at full strength launch an assault on the camp, destroying anything left of the gang with only a few escapees and survivors.
In the hours before the large battle, Micah shows his true hand. Knowing of the impending doom being brought by the Pinkertons, Micah begins preparing to disappear with Dutch (his source of finding the blackwater money) and using the Pinkertons major assault to burn away any complications left behind. A dying Arthur arrives at the last moment, now stalling Micah's plan. The clock ticks, Micah grows impatient draws his gun on Arthur, kills Mrs. Grimshaw and convinces Dutch to leave with him. John arrives... And then so do the Pinkertons. Micah and Dutch fight their way out of the storm, while Arthur and John do the same. In the chaos, Micah, Arthur, and Dutch all meet one more time.
At the end of it all. Micah and Dutch are gone. The Pinkertons are left with no means of tracking Dutch now, and are left standing over the smoldering remains of the Van Der Linde gang. They decide this is a victory enough and the Pinkertons exit from the RDR2 stage (Micah becomes a major outlaw later on, but without Dutch, they could care less about tracking him down next). Micah and Dutch do eventually secure the Blackwater money, and disappear into the wild.
Micah constantly suggests cutting away burdens to Dutch, (which Micah eventually forces this to happen himself). So that they can go back for the Blackwater money (which he does). Micah, disloyal as they come, played both sides the entirety of the story, so that he could escape with the cash while any competition was occupied destroying each other. A brilliant, but rather simplistic plan that worked only because both the Pinkertons and Dutch's gang were incapable of self-control and careful analysis.
Hosea and John, the only two gunfighters with sharper instincts and unclouded judgment, were Micah's true enemies from the start for this reason. They noticed certain elements of the situation and shared their distrust of Micah with Arthur openly. Micah constantly works against them and harasses them in response. Eventually getting Hosea killed and constantly attempting to remove John from the picture as well. Arthur eventually sides with Hosea and John. Micah realizes this and seeing an opportunity with Arthur's endgame weakness and vulnerability, handles his plan's final risk himself. Edit: Notice how Micah is playful and almost tries temptation with Arthur up until the end, where he becomes downright hateful and sarcastic. Unknowingly to either of them, Arthur did however start the chain of events that would eventually end with Micah's defeat in the finale. Micah's arrogance and boosted confidence in his own doings caused him to leave a single loose end not taken care of, one with the potential to end it all for Micah. "Just you left, is it?"
    *"Just me."*

The picked up thing is just semantics. It very well could mean picking him up as a spy in that context, and given that Milton doesn't mention Micah being involved in anyway with them before that, it's pretty much certain that Rockstar only intended on Micah being a rat after he got back from Guarma.
Micah met Dutch in a random bar in the middle of no where in the mountains, so it seems pretty far fetched that he was expecting to find Dutch there. That, and he only got the opportunity to join the gang after Dutch tried to sell stolen gold to locals, who caught on and tried to kill him before Micah stepped in. If it weren't for that, for all we know Micah never would have met Dutch, let alone joined the gang.
And he didn't just bring up the ferry robbery shortly after joining, this was 5-6 months after him joining the gang, and in an entirely different state. Arthur mentions in his journal that Hosea and Dutch agreed to head to Blackwater rather than back out West, so Micah probably figured out about the ferry money while they were camped outside of town, and then as Arthur says, he got Dutch excited about it and eventually convinced him to go for it.
I agree that Micah never cared about the gang, but him tipping off the Pinkertons about a robbery on a boat he would be stuck on in an active shootout just in the hopes that he could make off with the equivalent of $5 million today in the chaos seems unlikely. That and in Chapter 2/3, Micah can be seen trying to weasel Dutch into letting him go back for the Blackwater money and asking where it was hidden, just him. This encounter seems to imply that he only cared about the money, not that he was a spy for the Pinkertons.
The gang was also at least somewhat infamous even before Blackwater, according to Ross's dialogue in RDR they had robbed a shit load of banks at this point in time. Arthur mentions in the very first mission that Colm O'Driscoll has a large bounty on his head, also mentioning that Dutch's bounty was slightly higher than even Colm's. Along with this, there were bounty posters all over Blackwater for Dutch and Hosea, meaning that Hosea was known to be a high ranking member of the gang as well. Arthur Morgan was also known about, enough so to have $5,000 placed on his head by the time Milton and Ross first confronted him (probably only that high because of a combination of Blackwater and the Cornwall train, but he was known about for sure and Milton mentions having files on Morgan, directly saying that they know a lot about him.)
As for the Strawberry bit, he was not meeting Pinkertons. Lenny saw the entire thing and he pretty much just says that Micah got drunk and killed an O'Driscoll, he and another O'Driscoll (the one he kills in the breakout) got grabbed, Lenny almost got lynched, and by the time Arthur gets to the town they were literally going to hang Micah the next day.
He shot up the town because the Sheriff and his two deputies immediately engaged him and Arthur after he got out of the cell, and needed to go back to get his guns (and kill Skinny for leaving him to hang) and a lot of people obviously started shooting back. As for the Pinkertons showing up near camp, it's never even implied that Micah had anything to do with it. You could just call it sloppy writing, but I think you're looking too far into it in any case.
As for Rhodes, the Pinkertons were looking for the gang in that area for at least a few weeks before the shootout. The veteran with the missing leg tells you in the third conversation with him that government agents were walking around town asking for information on Arthur and the others. This has to happen at some point before "Blessed Are The Peacemakers" after which there's a few week gap as Arthur recovers and immediately after "A Short Walk In A Pretty Town" (the Rhodes shootout) is unlocked, which gets rid of every one in Rhodes, including the old man, until the mission is complete.
If Micah was a rat at that point, the Pinkertons wouldn't be going through town asking everyone for information on the gang, they would have showed up at camp like they did at the end of the chapter because they would have an exact location. Oh, and one last thing, if I remember right the Micah stagecoach robbery in the Saint Denis chapter wasn't a set up, they didn't seem to be expecting anyone and the entire shootout only began after you blew the dynamite.

@@bobjones1432 I wasn't saying the stage was a setup, I was just using an example to prove Micah wasn't just at Shady the whole time. As for the rest, you're probably right about it, the game does point in that direction objectively, however subjectively there's a lot hinting at something else going on beneath the surface, even if its just Micah intending betrayal at the start. Truthfully, you're probably correct; I think the "bolstering" of the gang's infamy and expertise prior to *one job going wrong* and the absolute disaster the game shows us they become is borderline unbelievable in the span of time that it all went down, leading myself and others to try and find other explanations. Rockstar RDR team is very skilled at writing hidden and "bigger picture" theme and plot devices, at first hardly noticeable, however on this matter it's probably over the top to consider.

    • @bobjones1432

@@nathanlennox6056 Oh I entirely agree that it's sloppy how the Blackwater job going wrong caused them to fail at literally every major plot and robbery they carried out there afterwards, with the exception of the Valentine bank and the train robberies. Especially when they seemed to have evaded the law and been successful with their plans for the >20 years prior and then suddenly they're completely incompetent and are disbanded within a few months, with the law only having good knowledge of their location and plans in the last few weeks because of Micah.
I honestly don't know why they didn't just make him the rat all along, I mean they made him the rat anyway, why did they specifically mention that it was only since they got back from Guarma? It definitely seems like they planned on it, I'm pretty sure it said in a newspaper that the law was tipped off about the Scarlett Meadows train, meaning that someone in the gang would have had to be the one to do it, but it's never followed up on.

Then we'd see everyone in the gang and see what actually happened in blackwater. Arthur mentions that Colm's bounty is almost equivalent to Dutch's...but the O'Driscolls are a much bigger gang than Dutch's, so you would think the pinkertons would find and kill them before finding Dutch, and how after chapter 3 Colm wasn't seen or heard of ever again until suddenly he's been arrested and hanged, because Micah was now working directly for the Pinkertons. Either way Dutch is the cause of the gangs misery, getting greedy and robbing that boat and killing that girl, letting Micah turn him against his own gang, it all goes back to Dutch who they loved like a father and he betrayed them all

Micah is one of the only men not there during the robbery, even after the mission, John Marston says "how did the law respond so fast, were they tipped off?" Arthur then responds with " I dont know". No one would suspect they were working together as they were so different and viewed differently by the gang, in particular Arthur and hosea. Plus Micah says in a side mission that they had sex with each other behind the blackwater camp which could mean they were a couple working together and hid their relationship to maintain their cover.
As everyone knows as well the scraps in his strawberry camp, heavily implying that he had Dutch in his sight long before guarma. For the Blackwater massacre, there is a dark horse candidate who might’ve been a plant sent by the Pinkertons - Jenny. Not much is ever revealed about her character, so it’s hard to really speculate. But what we know is she just showed up on the side of the road, had recently joined the gang, and quickly got in the gang’s good graces. She could’ve played off Lenny’s feelings for her to get in better with the gang like a pro. Also, Micah *claims* he slept with her. That could have just been him making it up to brag to Arthur and Bill. But if this was true, Jenny and Micah could’ve even been in cahoots together with the Pinkertons to set the trap with the ferry job. Like a Bonnie and Clyde duo, if Bonnie and Clyde were actually informants for the cops.

can we take a moment to think of the newspaper clip describing landon rickets. near the end it talks about how a book was never published. and that he was writing a autobiography before he died. and it mentions someone being shot in the back. very similar to the jim boy calloway storyline

Since the RDR games series by R* seems to move back in time when they go forward with a new game, the formation of the gang and having it climax with the Blackwater fiasco would make sense. It could answer allot of questions on some of these mysterious people in the first two games. What happened in Blackwater seems that Dutch and Micah got sloppy. In many ways most likely. Not hard to figure out what they were going to hit and when, with that much cash coming in on the boat. 150k was a huge sum back then. R* seems to want to make you think the Strange Man is the devil, and has delight in creating curses, plagues, and death, via peoples greed and dishonesty. A third RDR would be really great, but I don't hold my breath for it or a DLC. *A side note* Dutch's mother is buried in the cemetery by the church in Blackwater. Check it out. She's on the side leading out of town towards Beachers Hope. Simi large head stone. Is that where he really hid the money stolen from the boat? Not behind the building marked with an X in Arthur's journal? Lot's of clues, hints, and options for another full game for R* to make a prequel to the prequel RDR2. Blackwater is just as strange as all the other towns in the RDR2 game. Keep up the great research into the odd mysteries in this game. Good job.

      Not really.
These games always tend to have open ends in order to let you play in the open world afterwards.
Ending it in Blackwater would mean it would tie in directly with RDR2's beginning.
If anything, it would end with them talking about robbing Blackwater.

I've recently discovered your channel and I immediately fell in love with it, superb videos and great narrative, even if it is made only by text. I know it is off topic and I know you've already covered, at least partially, the IKZ mistery in your channel, but I feel like I can give you a new track, if you mind to investigate and it is something I've never seen mentioned by anybody on the comments.
There is a random encounter in the sorrounding of Van Horn that has some strange characteristics and that involves a woman: I was roaming there at night, around three o'clock, when I see this white dot on the minimap. The first time I saw that too late, because I wasn't expecting an event, and i didn't pay attention to the map. I returned there a few days later, just after the sunset (so I don't think it is tied to a specific time, but i think it can only happen during the night) and I saw two men riding a carriage, from which screamings where coming, I approached an tried to talk to them, but they just ignored me and kept going. So I shot them and, after the carriage stopped, i looked in the rear: there where corpses and a living screaming woman among them. I tried to talk to her, but she just kept screaming and tried to free herself from corpses. She was dirty, with blonde hair and i blue discolered dress. I din't pay attention to other details, because I wasn't thinking she could have been Isabeau, It is actually your video that brought back that to my mind.
Anyway, after she went of the carriage, she just looked at me and continued to run and scream, without thanking me or giving me any reward.
Now, the strange elements are two:
    1) any event in the game, even random ones, have a contestualization, or a bit of dialogue. In this case, there wasn't any (maybe I did something wrong, but the random encounter never popped up again in that area, so I think it was right to kill the guys leading the carriage just like that)
    2) the woman didn't thank me and just kept running in the night alone. She didn't ask me to be brought back home, nor she explained how she was in the carriage (once again, maybe I did something wrong and I should have managed to save her from the rear by jumping into it, without attacking the ones that were leading the carriage itself, so it is possible that i scared her, but Iìm not so sure.
After your video, I thought to the event itself, to the appearances of the woman and the fact that the woman was like crazy: maybe I should have lazoed her and I should have taken her to the Annesburg sheriff. I have not completed the game 100% yet, so i'm focusing on completing the game now, but maybe you or someone alse in the comment section can investigate or explain me how the random encounter worked, if I made something wrong.
Anyway, keep up the good work man, you're fantastic!

I think the gang got cursed when Dutch killed Heidi. When the strange man tells John he's forgotten far more important people than he, referring to Heidi. Also Arthur talks about the gang being cursed multiple times in dialogue. Did Heidi have any connections to the strange man?

I have a theory that Micha was with the Pinkertons from the very beginning. The typical colour of a western sheriff's hat is white just like Micha's. (could be a coincidence) (This happened in recent playthrough of mine) During chapter 3 when everyone is asleep in camp Micha is no where to be found until 8 in the morning as he then enters camp. at first I thought maybe it's a bug or something but the next night Micha wasn't anywhere to be seen again. This is just a theory that I wanted to add into the conversation
