@@ParkersReef Thanks for the reply, I’ve kept LPS and some SPS and tbh I’m leaning towards soft corals more and more, I have a busy life, not to say I don’t make time for my tanks as I have 5 and run them all on a maintenance schedule, but managing Alk is a bloody headache not to mention keeping perfect stability of phosphate and nitrate, whenever I see a soft coral tank I’m like “why would you want anything more” soft coral tanks have more movement, fish are happier with more places to hide and they just fit life better, not lazy, but they give greater visual rewards for a fraction of the work and quicker growth, and that’s most of our aspiration to have a tank with more coral than rock and see visible growth month to month

Hi i have a question about my nitrate reactor .When i turn the valve to increase the drop flow. My affluent water nitrate level always increase can you help
Hi, I am assuming we are talking about a sulphur reactor? If so, what speed is the effluent when it is producing zero nitrate and what are you increasing it to?
@@ParkersReef when the affluent is zero nitrate the drop rate is very slow maybe one drop per minute then i am increasing to 3 drops a minute .Yes it is a sulphur reactor.
Yes agreed, the tank is too small for these fish. Adult size of the queen angelfish ranges from 18-24 inches. Too small a tank stresses the fish and shortens their lifespan. You can‘t stunt the growth of some species, they will just keep getting larger thus outgrowing their tank. The tank also needs to be wider and not just longer. 800 gallons perhaps.
i am doing something similar on a smaller scale. sinularia, zoas, toadstools, purple star polyps, gsp, xenia. then 1 forest fire nem, 1 purple torch and 1 green elegance just for a little bit of contrast. i did have a alvopora but the nem deciided it liked that spot.
Even if he doubled it .. that’s 200gallons which is big enough for a few tangs .. I hate seeing fish in small tanks .. those are big angels and he has a lot of them
Funny how they say you don't have to go super expensive (aussie upward inflection like its a question)...you got 6 ai leds at $600 a pop and tangs angels and massive softies, all at least $300 each ... wow
Soft corals are great but i find most people grow out of them. Its becomes too easy and people look for more of a challenge with SPS. The tank looks great!
It's funny you say that, as I find SPS becomes fairly easy to grow. Some softies are certainly easy, but some others that were previously considered "temporary" in home aquariums are now possible. The hobby is growing and I'm pleased to see it grow in all sorts of different directions :)
Queen angelfish hail from the Caribbean and grow 18-24 inches in length in the wild. Strange seeing one in a tank full of info-Pacific endemic reef fish and corals. A separate tropical Atlantic Caribbean themed reef tank might be more appropriate. Then you might include French angelfish, rock beauty angelfish, jackknife drums, banded butterflyfish, royal gramma fairy basslets, princess parrotfish with brain corals, purple sea fans from Cuba, sea whips and other Atlantic coral species as cohabitants. Queen angelfish halocanthus ciliaris have no natural immunity to Lymphocites.

@@Krusty_the_Clownfish that is much Better than the tank in the video, but I think still short for an emporer, I have a bit bigger than yours and I would not put one I think 2000l is a minimum for such a Fisch and 3000-4000 would be perfect. They can become very hudge and need to swim a lot
@@tomg5405 they take a decade too get that big, i have a blueface angel in my 6 foot 210 and hes doing great and he has plenty of room
@@ParkersReef when the affluent is zero nitrate the drop rate is very slow maybe one drop per minute then i am increasing to 3 drops a minute .Yes it is a sulphur reactor.
that is a very very slow drop rate. You might need a larger sulphur reactor
Nope. That Emp, Queen and Naso need waaay more space. He needs an upgrade asap. Or sell/trade those big fish to someone that can properly keep them.
Yep, 10ft on the way :)
How can we find more of Michael's tank of socials? Insta? UA-cam?
It’s actually shut down now to make way for an upgrade
Where can I get that colt coral
I know right, I haven’t ever seen it before
I actually found it here in the US..but took a long time to find it every where I look that said coral it was a pink Kenya tree lol....
i am doing something similar on a smaller scale. sinularia, zoas, toadstools, purple star polyps, gsp, xenia. then 1 forest fire nem, 1 purple torch and 1 green elegance just for a little bit of contrast. i did have a alvopora but the nem deciided it liked that spot.
Beautiful!!
Such a small tank for those fish 😢
Upgrade on the way :)
@@ParkersReef you need tausends of gallons for this kind of Fish!!
Even if he doubled it .. that’s 200gallons which is big enough for a few tangs .. I hate seeing fish in small tanks .. those are big angels and he has a lot of them
@@Wetbandits34 I'm with you. I couldn't make it more than 2 minutes into the video; it's painful seeing those big fish packed in like sardines.
Very interesting cheers 👍
thanks for watching!
I personally prefer soft or lps and nems I'm upgrading soon from a 135g to a 200g and this is probably the route I'm going
Nice choice :)
Funny how they say you don't have to go super expensive (aussie upward inflection like its a question)...you got 6 ai leds at $600 a pop and tangs angels and massive softies, all at least $300 each ... wow
Not a cheap hobby!!
Hey Parker - How do you film the tanks and avoid having the footage be overly blue? Thanks!
Just iPhone with a filter :)
Indeed, however not many people keep accurate biotopes in reefing
Disease and and parameter swing resistant softies are 👑
Sure are!!
Im suprised he has angels in there, dont they munch on soft coral / LPS ?
not in this instance :)
I’m about to buy a similar sized tank. What do you think of asfur, majestics and Achilles tangs for this type of system?
to be honest, the Achilles will be too big for the system long term
Thanks, Powder Blue it will be
Also pretty aggressive fish for a 5ft system
What tang would you suggest? I’m mostly focused on the angels which is why I love your system. In descending order, my favorites are Regal, Goldflake, Flame, Emperor, Asfur, Magestic. Trying to figure which to get and when. Of course, not all
@@gregorymowens1697 that tank is way too small for angels, you need 9 foot tank at least, i would say 310 gallon too 1000 gallon sysyem
