  • Adam and Chris Meckley (ACI Aquaculture) create a ‘coral care guide’ for many of the common species we keep in our reef aquariums. Correct naming/classification, characteristics, lighting/par, flow/placement, special parameters, feeding/nutrients, fragging tips and ultimately, a difficulty level from 1-10. This is the first of a multi-part series, so stay tuned for more!

    This podcast and Reef Beef are easily the two most informative and important reefing podcasts. Thanks Adam!

    "The best confidence we have" with the additional empirical notes from you both works great. Amazing images!!! Thanks to you both, Vincent Chalias and Jamie Craggs for another great episode! This is the first serious conversation about the subject in a long time. Please keep doing it!

    Adam, the PC Rainbow I got from you I managed to pull out the rainbow colours by moving it to lower light.

      That's good! Mine is still mostly red with some metallic in the base.. Sometimes the frags in lower light do look a bit better.

    32:13 I’ve been collecting and growing Acropora since 1999. (See my tank on Tidal Gardens vids). Since the dawn of these cutsie names, I’ve always talked about how these trade names are destructive to our ability to accurately reference these animals. Imagine Corals of the world with an index of superhero’s, fruits & rainbows 😂. It’s ridiculous.

    Can I get some details on the “stabbing” technique for dummies? I’ve got a red planet that has encrusted nearly a 6 x 6 inch area for over a year with no upward shoots at all. How do I do this stabbing technique Chris mentioned? It’s taking up
    prime real estate in my system, but just looks like an encrusting !! What type screwdriver? How big? How many stabs? Actually damage the coral? lol, I’m desperate at this point…another great listen, thanks!

      Hmm, I can only guess, but it's similar in care to pearlberry species, but definitely different..

      I've seen some 'microclados' from Indo that look like that too, but I think that species label is incorrect. I think RRC Wonderland might be the same

    Adam, is that your tanks in the backdrop. I need to pick your brain on your Radion color intensities. I’m gonna PM you soon if you’re not too busy. I’ve been playing with WW, CW, R, and G, but I don’t think green is as important since Ecotech didn’t include that channel in the G6’s. I know the ATI T5 ABS has a lot of green though, and back in the day everyone in Europe was running a 50/50 mix of B+ and ABS and the corals were growing amazingly. So maybe it’s more important than we know. I think we all run 100% B, RB, V, UV, etc.

    • @fraggarage5922
      @fraggarage5922  Місяць тому

      Yep! Having both G5 and G6 Blues on either tank/side, I really don't think the missing green and cyan makes a huge difference to the colour and growth, but I'd be curious what others have expereienced. That said, I'm using radions in combination with a lot of other lights (T5, Orphek, Reef Brite), so my reference point is pretty mixed.

      Jacqueline is the name of the person that the coral was named after by Dr. Wallace in 1994, updated.
