Dear David, you are most welcome. I am going on nearly eight months with the Schlage door hardware - no issues whatsoever. And as the expression goes, "Happy Wife, Happy Life..."
Also when you buy sledge door locks make sure you save the packaging and everything that came with them because they're guaranteed for life you're guaranteed for life if you have one that fills you just take it out take it backup to the home Or wherever you got it and they will have it on the register if you use the credit card and they will replace it with a new one. And as most of you know anything you buy from Lowe's you can return for any reason at any time.
So those locks lock when the tab is horizontal? Can I change it to lock vertical? I'm having issues installing mine because I cannot make to flush with the door even with tightening the screws. In addition that horizontal to lock is driving me nuts.

@@krispbacon598thank you for clarifying this for me! I’m not crazy. I will be returning this knob for a second time and going with a new brand entirely. That defeats the entire purpose of a lock on a door

Schlage isn't exactly the same company as it was that long ago (in a galaxy not far far away), so they don't carry the spring latch for my door knobs. Fortunately, I found the exact spring latch I need. So, yeah keep your old door knob. You never know if you need it, or maybe someone else wants it. They don't lose value if they're good quality. Keep every part, including the plates as a set. Ummm, the credits at the end? Ha ha! Love that! Who was the executive producer? 😅

Another brand I had would lock the knob from rotating and we could easily check to make sure it was locked by attempting to open the door and tou couldn't. I'm used to that and prefer that more. Anyone got an opinion on the releasing lock from inside?
Yeah, the locks can be different with Schlage. If you recently purchased them I'm sure you could still take them back to the hardware store for a return. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
I am changing my door locks from Weiser to Schlage and that has created a problem. The edge of the door was chiselled out for the Weiser faceplate. I have now discovered that the hole in the door is 1” so I need to insert a metal faceplate in the hole to make the Schlage mechanism snug. How do I do that! If I insert the silver, metal Schlage faceplate in the hole, can I then pry the faceplate off the Schlage mechanism into 2 pieces and use the finished one to cover the chiselled out area on the door?
Yeah, that is a tricky part of the project and I created a video about the very task for you and others... ua-cam.com/video/ikyeHfHeOHs/v-deo.html I hope this helps!
Well, you have not answered me yet; ergo, I'll just take a stab in the dark... I would recommend disconnecting the two parts of the door lock handle. And then carefully slide them together again making sure they connect correctly. Do not force the two sides of the door knob together. I hope this helps.
I’ve bought and Installed one of these but I was pretty shocked by how easy It Is to bypass the lock simply by slipping a plastic card In, how do I prevent that?
A plastic credit card, eh? You've been watching too many Instagram videos ;) I have not tried to break into my own office nor the storage room. Perhaps, I should make a video just about the negative aspects of Schlage, eh?

The two knobs I have came connected and I have no idea how to get them apart. It doesn’t day in the instructions and pulling them apart does nothing help!!
This install did not work for me; I should have kept the piece together, taking it apart and removing it didn't work although I do have a circular insert. 😕
When my doorknob is in the locked position, I can just turn the knob from the inside and open the door without the need to unlock it. Did I install incorrectly, or is this how this brands knobs are? If so, I definitely don’t like that feature. I may need to switch brands.
I just tried that on my Schlage door and and does not unlock from the outside. If mine was not locking correctly, I would pull it apart and inspect the inside of each side of the doorknob. Does yours have the key to unlock or is it the type with the pin hole?
There's gotta be a way to remove the door knob so as to make it easy to insert the screws but havent been able to figure it out. This video didn't help in that respect.
I removed the same knob & door lock from one door to another in my house several months ago and the separation of the door knob simply took a bit of patience, a screw driver, and subtle points of pressure. Sorry, one video is not able to include all scenarios. If I encounter such an issue again with a Schlage door hardware piece or something similar, sure, I can make another video.
I have a wonderful idea. If you film a short video and send me a chat via Facebook, yes, I can watch your dilemma and then help you figure out, perhaps, a solution. I have a few minutes between now and 12:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Or did you already ask a smart neighbor/friend to help you install the door hardware, eh?
Oh wait, I know... you are an English Professor at Harvard and simply help new UA-camrs with your grammar. Thank you for taking the time for your busy lectures to watch my silly video. My handle will not separate.
Strange… I did not run into that problem. What have you tried?
Why is my knob lock on the inside the wrong direction? - locked and I unlocked??
Yeah, there have been many comments about that very fact. And many think that is just how Schlage designed this mode of door hardware.
When my doorknob is in the locked position, I can just turn the knob from the inside and open the door without the need to unlock it. Did I install incorrectly, or is this how this brands knobs are? If so, I definitely don’t like that feature. I may need to switch brands.

Were you able to fix your doorknob hardware on your own or what happened?
I thought lock should be vertical on thumb lock and horizontal for unlocking?
Yes, many of us thought the lock direction was going to be different, sorry 😞
It's Shlageh. :-D
Okay... Do you have a college degree in English?
Oh wait, I know... you are an English Professor at Harvard and simply help new UA-camrs with your grammar. Thank you for taking the time for your busy lectures to watch my silly video. I shall be more careful with future videos, and I have been. The product name of, "Schlage" was very difficult nearly two years ago. And yet, after months of therapy, yes, my pronunciation is improving. Once again, thank you sir, madam, they, or them, for the pithy comment. I hope you have a wonderful week!
Schlage is pronounced with a long "a".
Thaaaaaaaaank you for correcting me. Sometime in the next year or two when I replace another lock, and if I buy a Schlage, I'll be more careful with my grammar and pronunciation. Happy Holidays 🎁 🎄 ☃️
