This video was exactly what I needed! My Kwikset door knob kit has been sitting on a table in my house waiting for my husband to find time to install it. A month later I was about to call a handyman to do it but decided to look into how difficult the job might be when your video popped up. I installed everything in less than ten minutes after watching your video! Thank you so much!
I am in my seventies and I have a terrible time lining up the final screws to complete installation. Here is a little trick I discovered. Before I install the inside lock part, I put two farmer's matches in the holes just enough to hold the match. They fit perfectly. Then I put the lock part on and tape it to the door with a painter's tape (wide). Your holes are lined up. Pull one match stick and insert the screw. Pull the other match and complete installing the last screw. 'WORKS FOR ME'
This is the best comment. Perhaps I could have used toothpicks? I don’t have farmers matches. It’s already installed now. This would saved a lot of frustration. The lock button sticks now which is still a frustration.
Thanks John for your comment. I found you can also use any nail that is slightly smaller than the screw diameter. Just clip off the nail head before inserting into the holes. The main intent is to line up the holes before final assembling.
Thanks George…. I am going to return the one I have now because the lock button sticks. I will use your tip when I get a replacement unit. I will comment again so this gets to the top of the pile of comments!
I was hoping for some magic way to line up the screws that hold the 2 sides of the knob together. I have been fiddling with this for 30 minutes ! Thank you for the video
Thank you, the instructions were non-existant, none in the box. From YT I learned how to put in a door knob, reset my thermostat for my furnace, sharpen a lawn mower blade and learn how to remove it do so. There is a wealth of information on here for someone who is alone and nowhere to go for help. God bless you sir.
My old handle became very loose and eventually fell off. I tried to fix it but had no luck and couldn’t get the screw tight. I came across your video and fixed it in a couple minutes. I was completely overthinking it. Thank you for the video!
Thank You!!! I am a visual learner , so this was video was great for me . I also appreciate the speed at which you covered the process. Thank You so much! 😊
Thank you, your videos are excellent. I live in a home built in 1965 and have been slowly fixing and updating things. Since my husband past away I have been expanding my skills. I find your videography and explanations some of the best, Again a big THANK YOU
Great Video but I have a tip for you. For removing/installing the Knobs on the door. The interior knob has groves or slots for the screws that hold the 2 knobs together (at least on KwikSet ). So to remove the interior knob loosen the screws and turn the interior knob counter clockwise and the screws will disengage from the knob and you can remove it. They come out the slots. To install, put the outer knob thru the striker assembly, install the screws part of the way in, slide the interior knob on to the center shaft then slightly turn it counter clockwise, once the screws hit the back of the intrior knob, turn it clockwise to engage the head of the screws into the slots of the interior knob...tighten until snug. This save you the hassle of trying to screw the screws in the whole way with your screwdriver angled.
Thank you so much for this video, I am a 76 female widow that had to replace my old door knob to one with a lock, your video was so helpful, I installed two after watching and had no problems.
If you already had a quick set walk to that door you could have repeated because kwikset has the new rekey locks and it is super easy to keep the same keys throughout the house and garage and rekey yourself which takes about 1 minute or less. After 37 years, and the kwikset comes with a lifetime warranty but I figured that for 30 bucks I now have a new entry lock and a deadbolt which I'm installing today and I used your video too refresh my memory before taking everything apart. I will say that your video is one of the best on UA-cam. Thank you for sharing it with us and also I learned a little bit about the parts that allow for the adjustments without having to read the two very long read only my magnifying glass guides or instruction papers.
Thank you so much, Jo Daddy! I’m a single mom that got married out of high school and just went through a divorce after 20 years. I embarrassed to say it, but I honestly have no clue how to do even the most simple handyman tasks around the house. Thanks to you and your video I was able to change my door handle! I subscribed to your channel, which makes another first for me, and I look forward to more helpful videos. I’m sure I’m not alone so I just want you to know how much those of us who’ve never had to do anything like this before truly appreciate your help! :)
Thank you for walking us non handymen through this DIY project. Love how you broke everything down to the simplest details, how you described process in easy to understand language. Love your presentation style so much, I am new subscriber.
Wow, after watching 3 other videos I found yours, what a blessing you are! You taught this 58 year young new home how to fix her own door handle. Thank you!!!
Thank you, thank you. This senior lady was able to install the new door handle and save the fee of a locksmith. Those screws used to connect the knobs were the toughest but mission accomplished!
Wow it was a great video. I’m a recent 68 yr old widow that was able to replace the exterior doorknob thanks to your video. Definitely was easy after watching you & sure saved paying for someone to do it. Keep up the good work helping us diy .
Great, detailed video. I've got Kwikset locks too, and they are absolute crap. The finish wears off in no time and the mechanism fails. I've replaced mine 3 times over 20 years using the Kwikset warranty. Service is pretty bad, too. For anyone watching who hasn't bought yet, go with Schlage or another good brand.
OK Jo Daddy Oh..... Just finished installing the Kwikset door handle.... probably took me about 30 minutes was having trouble getting into place without being inches from the door. Finally everything fell into place, doorknob / lock is working and onto the next project! Thank you very much..... I think it would have been much more difficult without your tips for some of the mechanisms releases. 11/14/23
It’s 14 degrees out today and of course my door knob failed. After watching this it took me about 5-10 minutes to do. Super simple. I’ve done it before, but it’s always good to have a visual refresher right before you do the job. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this instructional video on how to install a doorknob! Like someone else stated, my new one had also been sitting on my kitchen table until I found your video! After mulling over the directions and still not feeling clear, you simplified, explained, and modeled the installation! I'm looking forward to more of your videos to help me through the projects around the home! My first doorknob was installed at 63, with your help! 🙌
Thank you for making this very helpful DIY video! Appreciate you explaining every detail for us beginners, and way better than trying to decipher the enclosed written instructions. Love your pleasant personality and humor also..... very funny bloopers at the end of video! 😆
I'm a 67 yr old widow with older house. 2 door problems. Bathroom door knob mechanism stuck and broke in door frame. Yes, literally broke! Another knob keeps falling off so time to replace both. Watched 1st youtube video and guy said to simply throw out collar. Bathroom door frame not recessed so wound up chewing up the wood in the door (with screwdriver & hammer) to create the recess. What an aggrevating, time consuming ordeal and mess. Then watched your video and followed your tip about installing the collar into mechanism and hammering with block of wood. Wish I watched your clip the first time. Note to anyone reading this, the block of wood is necessary as it protects and cushions the mechanism and door and ensure it hammers in straight and flush with door. Worked like a charm on the second door. Thank you so much. Your tip was a God send!!
This video was well worth the time spent watching, as I have 12 of these to do, and the first one had some issues, will now redo that. Thank you so much for explaining not only the how but the why. The little paper instructions that come with the handles did not put the breadcrumbs close enough together for me. You have a new subscriber...
Thanks for taking the time to make this thorough video on the kwikset door knob which is exactly what I bought yesterday. I seen the instructions and said no I'm just going to look for a video and here it is! Thank you
My house is older and 1 door mechanism actually broke off with the piece stuck in the door frame. Another door knob was agiving me grief to so it was time to replace them. I watched a how to video on youtube but the 1st guy said to just throw the collar out. My door plate area was not recessed so the 1st installation did not work. I was aggravated and at a loss, so I manually chewed up the door (with hammer & screwdriver) to make the recess for the door plate. What an ordeal and mess. Then I watched your youtube clip and found your comment about adding the collar and hammering in with a block of wood and it was a God send. It saved me so much time, aggrevation, and mess on the second door knob replacement. Note to anyone reading this, the block of wood is necessary when collar is needed and used. It cushions protects mechanism, plate and door and ensures it is hammered in straight. Worked great! I can't thank you enough!
Great video! As a novice, I especially appreciate the little details that I might get tripped over. After watching this video I was able to change out a bedroom door knob in 10 minutes without any issue.
Problem being, there are a lot of people who think they know what they're doing and do a crappy job of explaining the correct way of doing it along with why it shouldn't be done the wrong way. Good job Barry.
Thank you for doing this video. I was going crazy trying to install new door knobs on my doors. Aftert watchaching your video, I was able to get all my new door knobs intalled. Lots of luck to you with all your videos! Thanks again!
Thank you so much! Your clear instructions helped this timid non-tech guy successfully install a new door handle and gain some confidence in the process!
OK Jo Daddy Oh! ~ here goes me, to do this door knob installation... thanks for this very useful video guide..... looks so EZ even a Cavewoman can do it!
I removed the hardware from my door, painted the door, and tried replacing it. Couldn't. The previous owner used BOTH the plate and collar on the latch. NO WONDER IT NEVER WORKED WELL!! Removed the collar. Thank you.
Thank you for making this video. I couldn't figure out what that collar was for and you explained it perfectly. I installed mine with my jamb already cut and had to take mine back apart.. . I should have watched your video first! Thank you again for your video!👍
Thanks a bunch for this video. I have a Kwikset core that came apart / wore out inside, and no longer pulls the 'tongue' back from the striker. Changing the core was easy, but watching your video definitely helped me know what parts to discard, and pointed out some things I might have missed.
Your video was just what I needed. Started replacing the locking door handle on a used door that I purchase and the sleeve was really throwing me for a loop. I am glad that you explained it in a simple and understanding way. Thanks for posting.
Nice job with the video! With 45 years of working with these things I’ve found that Kwikset knobs and deadbolts are inferior in quality of their parts and build. Schlage is much better quality.
Man thank you soo soo much i spent an hour trying to remove the plate coz i have the other type of door (round one) Thank you for sharing this video with us 👍🏼
June 21, 2022, Thank you. I just installed three Kwikset privacy bed/bath knobs. Your tips got me through it quickly. Locksmiths wanted to charge thousands to install all the knobs I needed. Bless you for being a good teacher. I subscribed.
Thank you for your video. I have a Kwikset lever handle with no external screws. I was intimidated at first, but after watching your video I am confident I can tackle this project on my own.
Thank you so much you have solved so many of the problems I was having, you have given me the confidence to get on with changing the door knobs now. Brilliant video x
My front door lock assembly is 68 years old and is built differently. I can't get the inside flange off in order to replace the lock assembly. Like yours, mine is worn out. Great install video none the less.
Thank you! I’m trying to swap a locking doorknob for a plain one and was sitting here wondering how to get the second half out, and the first few videos didn’t show it. This was very helpful!
This video saved me so much time and money. I had replaced the old one and made a major error and once I watched your video I corrected the error and everything seems to be working fine. Thank you so much
Thanks so much. I knew I needed someone smarter than a door knob! I have a defective latch bolt. When I pushed the latch bolt in it wouldn’t pop back out. I spent more time than I should have before I looked for a UA-cam to help me out. Back to the hardware store. Thanks!
Excellent step by step descriptions of how to put in the door knob. Our painter put all of the new door knobs in my brother-in-law's home in wrong. Like all of them. They are sticky. Excited to fix them now. Thank you! I will update on how it goes when I can get over the Pass.
Hey guy. Thanks for this. Seems crazy that I didn't know how to change a door knob. I figured it couldn't be that tough with such a few amount of parts, but in trying to figure it out, that little silver round piece threw me off. This video clarified things. Thanks again.
RIGHT ON JO DADDY! This is a REALLY COOL thing that you do by showing folks like me just how to do something. I haven't replaced a door knob in some time, it's cold and dark out here in Maryland right now so I dont wanna be outside for too long. So you helped me as N if I had JUST replaced one myself JUST NOW! So, with that knowledge and visual in my mind now, it wont take as long for me to replace because I hope I wont make mistakes as I certainly would have had I not just watched your video! Thanks Jo Daddy! Larry in Maryland
Thank you so much for this helpful video! I'm not good at handyman task and was clueless even after reading the instructions so I appreciate you! I'm definitely subscribing to your channel! ❤
Thank you for this video. I have been apprehensive about trying to change out our doorknob because I have never done this before. My husband is no longer able to do these things due to 4 strokes, so I have to. You made it look so easy. Now, I can't wait to try. Thank you again. Have a blessed night.
good video. was trying to replace a broken knob and when i installed the replacement the latch was barely sticking out. this video showed me the issue. I had the outer knob installed at a weird angle which caused a lot of issues. thanks. an unterly dumb issue but its nice to see a "this is how it *should* look" example
OH YEAH BROTHER! PLEASE KEEP DOING THESE COOL VIDEOS! Guys like ME depend on them. I'm an Electrician by trade but I do just about everything. I just hadn't done a door knob in awhile. Thank you!
they shouldn’t put philips screws where my screwdriver can’t reach them…
The dad I always needed

I am disappointed because my handle is screwless and the hanfle is loose which he did not discuss how to tighten it.😢
@@kathleenmeadows535hope you got a man to fix your issue
Wow..a video that was actually helpful.

My husband and I spent 2 hours trying to replace a knob and got smart and watched this video. Thank you so much!!!!!
My husband was my best friend and handyman. Now that he's gone, I'm trying to save and do things. This video was a Godsend. Thank you so much.
Thank you so very much , I watched 10 videos before I couldn't get it untill tonight , because of you Sir I did my front door lock . Thank you
Great video! Appreciate you not adding the annoying music bed that competes with your instruction. Great videography as well
My old handle became very loose and eventually fell off. I tried to fix it but had no luck and couldn’t get the screw tight. I came across your video and fixed it in a couple minutes. I was completely overthinking it. Thank you for the video!
Super helpful video and you went slow enough for us to understand.

I am 58 and the things I know I learned from my dad. He is no longer around so thank GOD for UA-cam. You made it easy so now I can do it. Thank you!
This was so much easier than the written instructions that came with the lock. Thanks for the demo!!

You made it so simple! Only way installing would have been easier is if you came over & did it for me. Thank you. I feel smart!
You did great on this. I was able to install my Kwikset entry door handle all by myself.
Thanks so much. I knew I needed someone smarter than a door knob! I have a defective latch bolt. When I pushed the latch bolt in it wouldn’t pop back out. I spent more time than I should have before I looked for a UA-cam to help me out. Back to the hardware store. Thanks!
Sir, Thanks so much for the video and your super clear instructions. My Kwikset door knob got stuck and this video helped me fix the problem.
Excellent step by step descriptions of how to put in the door knob. Our painter put all of the new door knobs in my brother-in-law's home in wrong. Like all of them. They are sticky. Excited to fix them now. Thank you! I will update on how it goes when I can get over the Pass.

Very helpful! I needed to use the collar piece & no one else showed how it worked! Thank You! I also enjoyed the bloopers!
absolutely best video...detailed and easy to follow...thank you!
I installed this yesterday. Then looked up this video today. I did the whole thing back asswards. 😡 when all else fails, read the directions. Lol

Thank you! It makes sense when I can see what you were doing. Really helped me out!
Thank you so much for this helpful video! I'm not good at handyman task and was clueless even after reading the instructions so I appreciate you! I'm definitely subscribing to your channel! ❤
Thank you for making this video, really helped a lot.
Thank you so much. I had to remove the lug plate, thanks, and extend the internals as well, thanks. Well done!
Easy to follow instructions. Thank you!!
OH YEAH BROTHER!
PLEASE KEEP DOING THESE COOL VIDEOS! Guys like ME depend on them. I'm an Electrician by trade but I do just about everything. I just hadn't done a door knob in awhile. Thank you!
Thank you so much, I am also a handyman just like you. I needed to extend the latch, after that, it was a piece of cake because of you....
