This is superb singing! The fact that she's 56 is utterly astonishing! There are sopranos at 26 who couldn't pull of the finesse she could. Brava Gruberova!
Quelle performance formidable!
FanTABulous !! "Edita & Her Boys" play Vegas !! I love it! Not only can she still sing it, but she really commits to the goofy staging, and brilliantly comments on the character's philosophy. I love this!
Smiling from ear to ear after watching. The voice is still intact, yes, but the most astonishing thing is how fabulous an entertainer Gruberova is. Un-self-conscious, full of humor, and sexy. Certainly not letting prejudices about 50 year old women get in her way of doing a killer Z. Brava.
So Gruberova was born in Dec 1946. Which makes her 55/56 years old in 2002... Holy smokes! Singing Zerbinetta at that age? Now THAT is solid technique! Or could be her voice is just made of steel. Impressing!
I witnessed her Zerbinetta in Munich mid 80's, during her 130th performance of this role. She was much more amazing. Long triller on d''' etc. Especially when she easily managed the staccato bows hitting e''', silent sigh from the audience was very impressive.
Well actually, she is supposed to 'overact'. Since it is a play within a play. Then one has to 'overact'. But even if it where not a play within a play...I find her acting quite good. It's not meant for TV or the big Screen. She's performing in a theatre where even the last row has to get something of her acting. You would not get that by 'natural' acting.

Same goes for Sutherland
She was virtually able to sing Zerbinetta standing on her head. No one of her generation -or since- comes anywhere near. She really 'owns' this role.
She really did and still does

Gruberova and her Beach Boys! boys were wearing the old fashioned swim suits for the early 20s.

Rest in power, Edita. You will be missed greatly.

it was in Liceu - Barcelona 2002
Absolutely. Singing Zerbinetta like this at age 56 really is amazing.
fantastica sempre... eterna diva
Minute 10.49 ... impossible to sing! But this titan did it!
Amazing technique.
You should hear Gruberova singing "La Straniera" at the age of 66: a miracle of nature!!!!!! (i was in Munich last July)
she performed the same miracle in China in 2019, age 73!
At fifty six, Gruby still has in going, and the guys! Sexier than usually presented.
RIP LA REGINA PER SEMPRE
Bwt who was Ariadne in that prod ? This soprano looks familiar but can't put a name on her face. Thank you !!

I seem to be missing the "thumbs up/thumbs down" buttons on comments, and the reply facility.Am I missing something, but they seem to have disappeared?
Nobody can sing Zerbinetta like Gruberova, but do look at Reri Grist here on youtube.
PHENOMENON. IN EVERY RESPECT. SHE IS SO MISSED...
UNREAL!!
Well, the thumbs have come back on my own posts, but WHY would I want to reply to/comment on,myself? lol
