- I’m today’s video I’m going to address the light knock knock joke on the cheap 3V’s top end by replacing the phaser, but discovered there was another issue.

What you are hearing of the tapping is the Roller followers- on the Drivers side.
In most cases varnish has built up in the lash adjusters - I know this because of the 5.4 in my super duty 2008 Truck . Try this first a remedy that I do on my truck and that is use WD40 in with your oil. If you use 10W 30 oil the remedy should work.
In a 5Liter engine use about 6oz and let it mix in with your oil, it will clean and quieten the lash adjusters - I did this on mine as when it was up to operating temp a ticking sound you could hear - I then poured Wd40 in to see if it would help and YEP!! It sure did.. there's still a bit of tick as one lash adjuster is worn but my engine was a lot louder after I got it and changed the oil before I tried this procedure. Not only that but I let WD40 work along with my oil and use WD40 with every oil change as a gentle additive to help keep it cleaner. Just don't go to thin if you are using 5W30 - In this instance use 5W30 only in the winter and 10W30 in the summer if you have lots of miles on the engine. I also recommend to pull the oil pan for deep cleaning if you had a roller follower fail as there will be flake at the bottom .
Already happened way to much, that I could fix my second mustang with parts I had laying around from the first one🤣 nice job! Fun to also see some 3v work👌🏼💪🏼
Thanks for making this video
Great job
Hell yeah! Sometimes I’ll ask myself why I’m hanging onto some parts then this happens..
What will be your advice: next week I will change my lifters, rocker arms on passenger side and vct on both side. I have tool for valve spring. which is the better whey to do the job. With tool and remove the rocker arm and lifter one by one or remove the camshaft.
Just take the camshafts out using the wedge tool
Good job, but didn't u have to roll the shaft at 1 then pop off intake and exhaust rockers then remove camshaft, or just remove as is? Thank you.
I try and find a point in the cycle where there’s the least amount of valves open or being opened and never fully opened and just take the cams out as is
Definitely sounds like you have a ticking cam follower on the driver's side as well.
Only one way to find out!
So the lobe is on the camshaft? And basically it was worn down? Just tryna learn bruh lol
Yes a camshaft has lobes. The roller on the rocker seized and was wearing severely on the lobe
Mines been down for 5 months due to previous owner not doing the timing when needed and it’s destroyed all the cam races and bearing 😂 cams all boogered ip and to top it off 80% leak down on 6 of 8 love it
Sounds like it needs to be swapped. With another 4.6 or a Coyote 😈
@@MattSoppa agree with you all the way i'm fine paying big bucks for coyote but man people want too much for 3v's still lol probably because they sound damn good
One for Al Gore's lack of rhythm.
Order all new rockers an followers in future I can still hear a slight noise do cams also
For the algo
Ya he makes this job sound easy, let me tell you this job is NOT...REPEAT NOT an easy job and shouldn't be taken on by a so so mechanic. My 2006 f150 almost got pushed out into the street and lit on fire several times during my cam phaser replacement job as bolts are near impossible to reach, and many guys are coming onto the ford forums to report they've not gotten the timing gears aligned properly thus causing another tear down n start over. It's at minimum a big pain in your ass and isn't an easy as this nice fellow makes it seam....just a heads up!!
Only to the uninitiated
TRUE ill give you that... but there is a lot of guys out there ill just say are over confident and this video doesnt tell you how many people dont get it right the first time and end up doing it two or three times. im just glad this time i did my research, besides its just a matter of time till it happens again, my best advice is to do the cam phaser lockout. or better yet buy GM....@@MattSoppa
But you didn't show the phaser replacement which was the single most important part of this entire video.. what a joke!!
Um I did pal
