      @@LivernoisMotorsports Hi. I was wondering, does installing this delete make the timing chain and system last longer ? Is the engine less sensitive to low oil pressure ? Will engines with deletes last longer with less trouble and why ? Thanks

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  3 роки тому +2

      @@mvd4436 Typically speaking the timing chain system takes a beating when the phaser system fails as the shock load is being absorbed 100% by the chain and guides/tensioners. so eliminating this issue puts less stress on those items. It is also less sensitive to oil pressure changes as the VCT system requires a substantial amount of volume to work properly. the engines themselves as a whole don't necessarily last any longer, but the oil/timing systems do, reducing the need to replace them. so as much as we would like to tell you that it would be directly responsible for the engine lasting longer, the engine itself, if you constantly changed those failure points, would last a long life. But, since you are having to replace those items less frequently, it helps life for those items.

      @@LivernoisMotorsports Thanks for the answer. One more question. Since you guys have seen your fair share of Fords... When you lock out a 2004 or newer Triton , does it become as reliable as an old 2 valve Triton generally speaking ?
      Im looking for a truck and I never had problems with 2 valve Tritons. But the phasers are almost pushing me to buy a Chevy. If the locked out 3 valve is close to as good as a 2 valve, I'll just buy a good used Ford and send it to the shop to get locked out right away.

      @@mvd4436 We feel it is, the only issue left is spark plugs on the pre 08 engines, but just changing them every so often is a big part of if you will have issues. But to be fair, 2v engines had their own spark plug issues too.

I think the ford manual requires that 2 valve springs be removed to keep the cam from spinning once the phaser is removed. I guess when you put the phaser back on you can spin the cam back to where it should be by aligning to your mark.

    This is the wrong thing to do by useing lock outs. This engine was designed to use phasers to in crease POWER and gas mileage. i tied this, not as much power up-hill gas mileage went down.

      If properly done, this is not the case. These increase power and mileage compared to poorly functioning phasers, which on a 3v is 90% of the time, even with brand new parts on an old engine, and the calibration has enhancements required when making it a non-vct equipped engine.

Thank you again for posting this video, its detailed instructions are perfect for the do it yourself person and I look forward to your reply.

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  8 років тому +18

      +Silicon Valley Engineer Replacing the phaser actually doesn't address anything in regards to the failure point in this system. The phasers operate off of oil pressure supplied by the engine. When these engines wear, and age oil pressure naturally drops. Because of this, the phaser no longer has sufficient oil pressure to operate correctly. Now, the oil pressure is plenty to still operate the rest of the engine safely, but not feed the high demand of the phaser. The reason you see people claim that replacing the phasers helped is that you have a brand new part with zero wear on it, so it's operating at maximum efficiency, but since it has to pick up the slack for the rest of the engine it can fail within hours again. This is why our lockout is the only permanent fix for the phaser system.

    Once the lock outs are in, is there any reason why the spring and plate on the back of the phaser still need to be there?

    We are considering this for one of our fleet trucks, just trying to find a mechanic that will do it.
    One mechanic said it is too late (we just started feeling some rough idling this week). This is a better option than engine or phaser replacement and honestly probably worth a try. Thoughts on it being too late or is the mechanic just trying to sell me an engine. Btw if I can get even a year out of this it’s a huge win.

    • @LivernoisMotorsports

      Typically it's only too late IF there is damage to the camshaft and phaser dowel pin area, and that usually takes a long time of ignoring the codes and noise. So if it just started, while it's always safe to inspect, that's highly unlikely.

    when you face the engine, the cams rotate clockwise. The clockspring in the phaser retards the cam, oil pressure from idle up advances the cam, for better low-end grunt. Your positioning of the lock out is creating a full retard condition. Shouldn't it be full advanced, since 90% of driving is under 3000 rpm?

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  6 місяців тому

      The phaser, at rest, is fully advanced, and the lockout keeps it a full advance. It uses oil pressure to retard the camshafts, and this eliminates that function.

Second problem, it thrown a P0022 code (INT CAM POSITION TIMING OVER RET BAN 2), its misfiring the passenger side and the technician said maybe is a phaser... The truck was repaired of a time chain kit 2 months ago... those problems I have sounds awful and the motor starts to vibrate... I saw a lot of videos on youtube that adjudicates the problems to VCT Solenoids... and maybe could be those, but I´m not sure... What do you think? Could those Phaser Locks help to solve my problems??? For what are those made for??? What are they improvement for the motor or what is the benefits? Hope you can help me with this!! • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  7 років тому

      From what it sounds like, it is in need of our phaser lockout system. The main improvement is that you will never have another issue with the VCT system at all because it bypasses it, making it operate like a traditional fixed timing gear. Our package comes with our MyCalibrator tuner, and the corresponding tune changes to make certain the engine runs properly with the VCT system eliminated. The only reason the Check Engine Light would come on is if there was a legitimate issue outside of the cam phaser system itself.

    So I got to thinking on this whole cam phaser issue on the 5.4L . So wouldn't just getting a new torque bolt fix the issue for another 100k? I know the lick out is a more permanent fix but it seems like the bolt getting out of torque because of the design flaw is biggest prob and may stay good after replacement for 100plus miles. I'd be fine with that for a $10 part.

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  5 років тому

      Technology on the Beach No, the phasers lose control due to reduced oil pressure that naturally happens as the engine ages and wears. The phaser itself, along with the timing drive, and fasteners have nothing, or at least very little to do with this phenomenon. That's why replacing the entire drive system with new components maybe lasts for 1-15k miles before happening again.
