    hello, i installed this kit 3 years ago on a 2008 5.4 expedition with 155000, the reason i installed it, after 145000 i replaced timing set ,phasers, and solenoids, and 10000 miles later the chain popped a hole in the passenger valve cover!! well heres a 3 year update,, the vehicle has been driven from coast to coast and at now has 248630 miles with no failures !!

    I want my old F150 to run a long time yet, so I ordered your system today.

    great video and easy to follow instructions, however, it would be helpful if you would add to the beginning of the video to tell people how to position the camshaft - if positioned correctly it works just like your video, however, if not the phaser will not wiggle off but will tap off with a hammer and then the cam will move - this creates a huge headache trying to get the alignment pin in the phase rotated and lined up perfectly with the notch in the cam - speaking from experience unfortunately -

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  5 років тому +1

      Typically the install takes less than a business day, and the tuner does address the fault codes related to the vct system. Of course if your vehicle has other faults, those codes will remain. As for power, most report back a noticeable improvement in power over a failed system. As for being worth the money, of course we feel it is. Especially given the fact that most temporary fixes start out at double the money, and ours permanently fixes it. As for customer testament, being we've offered this kit for nearly 10 years feedback is definitely out there, but the biggest testament is that most repair shops that install a customer supplied kit end up ordering multiple kits for stock.

      The phasers can impact ignition timing, but usually not to the amount you are describing. they control cam timing mostly, and then ignition timing can changed based off of where cam timing ends up. so you'd need to look at desired vs actual camshaft timing to know.

    Seems like a backwards step?

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  8 років тому +7

      +Fabian F The advantage is removing a well documented design flaw from the engine for those more concerned with durability and in-service life while keeping repair costs down. As of now the only way to properly retain VCT is to just rebuild the engine to factory specifications every time the engine wears down enough to cause the system to fail. Considering some trucks have this happen in under 50k miles, you ca see how expensive this can be. Being there is negligible loss in power or economy ~700 once is far better than ~7000 every few years or less.

    • @cryptopyro
      @cryptopyro 8 років тому +2

      +Livernois Motorsports If the low idle locking pin is causing the "ticking noise" problem, wouldn't it be better to create a remanufactured and improved cam phaser, so the improved low rpm torque is retained by having full functionality of the cam phaser system?

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  8 років тому +10

      +Fabian F Actually since the vct system makes the most torque by being in the fully advanced position, disabling it does nothing to the low end torque. Additionally since the engine itself is the cause of the vct system failing, you'd need to completely reengineer the base functionality of the vct system. Being the original design cost millions of dollars, and was flawed, engineering an improved offering could easily match the original's cost, without the economics of scale helping offset the price per unit. This could mean phasers that cost more than a whole new engine costs, which to be completely honest almost no one would buy.

    And the reason for putting Lockouts on the phasers is what it seems the springs brake real easy .is this the reason?

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  6 років тому +2

      not at all, the spring does not operate the phaser, it is only there
      to help dampen movement. The phaser is oil controlled as as an engine
      naturally ages, the oil pressure drops. Once it drops below a certain
      point, the phaser can no longer properly function. There is still
      plenty of rpessure for the engine to live a long, happy life, just not
      operate the phaser. So the lockout removes that issue.

    I just had this done on my 2004 f150 and now I get terrible gas mileage. Is there anything I can do with the programming of my truck to at least get some of it back?

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  9 років тому +1

      +Joe Bowyer Joe, if your fuel economy dropped off substantially, we would recommend going back over the install. Often times we have seen people put one lockout in backwards, causing a severe drop off

    • @TheGnthreman

      not backwards, but the programmer has two modes. which one is best?

      +Joe Bowyer There is only one mode. Stock, or tuned. It requires the tuned option.

    Im going to be doing a cam install and will be including the lockouts. I noticed that when you pulled the cam phaser off the cam didnt move. Did you guys remove the 3 cam followers that Ford recommends or did you just set the cam to where there are the least amount of valves open?

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  8 років тому

      +MotoGPJoe1 No we did not actually. We left it complete

    • @MotoGPJoe1
      @MotoGPJoe1 8 років тому +1

      +Livernois Motorsports Ok thnx! With the followers in would it be hard to set down the cam and torque down the caps or is there little pressure coming from the springs to even worry about it? Ive heard people leave followers in and they just mash the cam down instead of removing the followers. This is my first time working on the motor so I just want to make sure what Ive been reading wont give me any trouble.

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  8 років тому

      You can have the followers installed, and then slowly tighten the cam caps down in an even sequence, just a little bit at a time, working the cam slowly into position, while making sure not to allow too much pressure to exist on any one cap at a time.

    Wouldnt this just cause it to not advance and thats pointless it seems better to have it

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  8 років тому +1

      +Jackie Chan the VCT system doesn't advance these cams, it retards them. And since the VCT system fails, making it unable to control the cam timing at all, No, it's not pointless. These run very poorly when the VCT system fails, along with running a high risk of damaging the engine, so the locked out cam timing is far superior to that of uncontrolled cam movement.

    • @TechNatureGaming
      @TechNatureGaming 8 років тому

      Ok, well then would it be better to just repair it?

    • @LivernoisMotorsports
      @LivernoisMotorsports  8 років тому +2

      +Jackie Chan There is no "repair" for the phasers to keep them active. Even replacing every single part of this system only provides a temporary solution. Sometimes the noise returns within hours. That's why our lockout system is the only true way to permanently repair the noise.

    • @MrCurt54661
      @MrCurt54661 5 років тому

      As a ford tech it is very rare that people need to replace the phasers more than once if they use a ford part. The phaser rests at a full advance position(not a zero), if you are removing the phaser just replace it. Most ford techs and high end techs at independent shops laugh at this process because it only seems like backyard mechanics do it.

    You guys are a life saver. I have an '05 mustang GT and am doing a comp cams cam swap that requires their phaser limiter kit. Well, turns out I need new phasers and they are the updated ones. Well, they say their spring lock tool ONLY works on the old phaser and not the new one. I don't understand why they have not included a spring lock tool for the newer models as well. Anyway, long story short, they lost my business as I ordered y'alls cam phaser limiters since it seems y'all are the only company to make them for these newer phasers. Thanks Livernois!

      Only if there is physical damage to the phaser. However, that is rare, but you should always inspect it especially in the area of the dowel pin.

      +chuy gonzalez The tuner can scan, and clear codes, and it does address the codes that come up when the VCT system fails, but it does not effect the diagnostic functions of the computer outside of that.
