a few years ago if a cat was in distress the owner would help them, now they just reach for a camera and post it on social sites. 9:14 the cat has obviously got its claw stuck and is in danger of causing real harm to itself but all the guy does is laugh at the cat's distress and carry on filming.

You are so right. Several of these videos disgusted me because of ignorant cat owners who think it is fun to torment a cat. Most of the videos were okay but not that laughable. Some people value getting worthless thumbs more than their cat.
The cat's claw may or may-not be stuck. It could be a case of the cat just not wanting to let go. All the cat need do is retract its claw. I've seen this behavior in my own cat. It's not so much different than when a cat clamps down on something with its teeth to the point where you can actually suspend the cat in the air.
People nowadays only care about getting their 15 seconds of glory.

Some of these are amusing, but others... I know that cats snore, but the last time I heard a cat making the noises the cat at 1:47 was making, it was because she had heart failure. Hope the owner took their cat to the vet... Doesn't look like he/she is feeling well...

Some of these are actually funny, but I really do feel bad for those overweight cats. I know it's hard not to give in to these cuties... I tend to spoil our cat, too, but I couldn't bear seeing her suffer.

Is it possible for the people making these videos to stop cutting them down to the middle of the screen. I know that I and a lot of other people who try and watch them can't see them. I usually just go to another one when I see too many.
They didn't cut them down. They don't know how to TURN THE PHONE SIDEWAYS when making a video. Modern phones change the format from vertical to horizontal when turned. Stoopid people.

The cat aggressively chasing his tail is in distress. He needs to see a vet. My cat did this and ran around wildly as if she was being chased. The vet put her on an antidipresient, it did wonders she is no longer so stressed. The condition is called feline hyporesthesia. Google it it's very interesting.

I didn't think the one with the ginger & white cat, not being able to breath very well, was very funny. The cat is sick. Also the clip where the cat was hanging by it's claw, with no-one helping it, was cruel also. The one where the cat was struggling to get through the cat door...I hope it wasn't pregnant, as serious damage could have been done. It's a fine line between funny, & "shadenfreude".
