I follow a few journalists who've travelled to Guatemala & spoken with them about what's taking place. MANY live in villages in the mountains. They have almost no education & speak their own language, not Spanish. "Travel Agents" visit the villages & promise parents they'll give their children a great life in the US. Parents actually pay them to bring them here. They don't have money so they give them the deed to their home as a guarantee of payment. The kids are brought here, can't communicate with anyone & are sent to work as labor or $ € × $l aves. They work off their debt & the parents are given back the deed to their home. They're told their kids are going to school, doing great & are very happy. They never see them again but take their word for it. Bottom line is, the VAST majority of countries around the globe don't value life like we do. They do things to survive, like sending their kids away or $elling them, if it allows them to eat & make ends meet. It's unconscionable to us but routine to them. How can a child without money, who does no speak english and is not familiar with the area can just leave? That does not make any sense to me.
Many of them speak English, and they already have parents or other family members in the US. Parents will come here first, work, get housing and become stable etc and then send for their kids. If they are over 16 they've already completed school in their countries and they're coming here to start a life and begin working themselves.

I feel it's a lot more going on here. If they run away, they are with out a home and basic needs. So where do they go, and how are they surviving. They had a place to stay that met their needs. Staying in school is paramount for a better education. They could graduate, go to college if they chose and get a good paying job. Why would a teen with a baby choose to run away? Many children in foster care are molested. All you have to do is talk to an adult that grew up in the foster care system! Some of these kids are also being trafficked.

If she found 15 of the missing children... What reasons are they giving for leaving? There must be some kind of correlation between them. Border needs to be locked down regardless. Shouldn't even be an issue unless they are legal immigrants. Change citizenship laws so that citizenship is based on parents instead of just being born on U.S. soil (like it is in almost every other country), and we'll see a huge reduction in illegal immigration.
