Your breakdown of the open tuning is a good example of your unique and elite teaching abilities. ‘Snapped the G string when tuning to open EBEBEG#, so I tuned to open DADADF# and then capo’d at two. This no doubt made a lot of musicians smile.
Gabriella Quevedo watches the video, then two hour later she releases a version playing all three guitar parts and the drums at once. During that same time I realize that after 40 years I still can't play the guitar. Good times!!! Andy is the best!!!
YES!!!! MORE YES!!!! Awesome job!
+
I’ll support that request for more Yes /Steve Howe please!
💯
More YES PRETTY PLEASE!
This is such a beautiful song. They don’t make em like this anymore. ❤
Andy. Making the World a better place man.👍
Yes!
Great lesson. More "YES" is good. "And You And I".
Beautiful Intro, doesn't have to be complicated to be Ear Candy. Steve is the most interesting guitar player.
Just like to say Andy, I've never heard a guitar player nail a song that most don't have the courage to even try to figure out in the first place...You are approaching virtuoso territory on guitar and teacher...Thank You, for everything!!
A tease! It's like hearing "We Will Rock You" without "We are the Champions"! xD
Just love to hear you play. Teaching me how to play is bonus. Thanks so much.
Gratitude Supreme: my appreciation to you is by magnitude beyond thanks. I leave my Ovation in this tuning & my Taylor's and others now need not be changed! Tried it on Mandolin, other 6 string methods...this is authentic as it gets!
Holy cow! I tried following a lesson done in standard tuning and it sounded so colorless. I just got through the first guitar part here and it sounds SO RIGHT! And I even have the voice to sing it. Now I just need to find 4 other people to play it with.
I’m in!
This brings me back to riding with my pops back in the day. He loved playing the guitar as do I and I’m sure he’ll be looking down on me smiling when I’m playing it one day. Thank you for the lesson.
The hardest part was getting the tuning since Howe didn’t use a standard guitar. Genius 👍
Yes and I agree
I just found your tutorials and have watched a few of them. So many of the other lessons I've found on UA-cam feel overly technical and academic. Your tutorials feel like the way a buddy would teach you a new song just sitting in the living room together. You've encouraged this old dog learn more fingerstyle when I had resigned myself to forever being just a strummer.
You always go that extra step with the video editing that it always blows me away. I haven't heard this song in years. Good selection.
Saw Yes back in the early 1970's in concert a couple of times. Their concerts were a production.
Very nicely done. Started a loop at 10 sec to 2:23 to play this over and over. Very well done especially the part where the bass comes in.
I love the first part of that more too Andy - I used to be the other way when I was young and didn't know any better...than my musical sensibilities developed and that changed. Great lesson.
typo - then
I've been traveling for the last 2 years. I just bought a house and can't wait to get my studio set up so I can start tackling some of your great tutorials. 😊 You are, IMO, the best guitar song instructor out there. Looking forward to learning and donating 👍Thank you Andy.
Another great lesson from Andy who was covered so many great acoustic tunes. I would love to see a Classical Gas tutorial. It might not be a rocker but it's definitely a classic and you know he would nail it.
Great job, awesome song. I also really appreciate how you've started adding links in the descriptions to each section of the videos. Way cool!!! :)
I couldn't agree more.
Took me like 4 hours to get the hybrid picking and timing but I’ve got it clean now! Thanks for posting this.
gorgeous sound - meticulously clean playing, dude.
Beautiful rendition of this classic YES song,! Thank you, Andy! 🎸🙏🏻😎
Wow! Great solution to playing this beautiful intro. One suggestion: At 7:11 you pull off the D string second fret to open D. If you also play pull off the B string second fret to open B at the same time, the octave note helps simulate the 12-string sound. It was with great joy that I finally learned this intro thanks to you. Brilliantly done!
One of my favourite songs EVER! Such a Moving, Loving, Happy Song
This really is brilliant guitar playing.
So beautiful. Thanks!
Loved it. Thanks. Brilliant demo as always.
Broke my G string trying to get the correct A note. Thanks. My donation will be going to the music store to buy more strings.
Thanks so much for posting this! A great choice and, as ever, well demonstrated.
FANTASTIC ! Thanks so much for this lesson !
Beautifully done. Thanks
Thanks for doing this up so it can be done on a 6 string. I'd tried it on Mandolin & via regular tuning...this is great!
Fantastic Video, always wanted to see a lesson on this and other YES music! Love it, give me MORE!! lol Thank You!
Wow,, that took me way back, such an excellent production and lesson.Thank You.
I really love your rendition of this song...beautiful👌
Absolutely beautiful , amazing playing...
Beautiful, so beautiful. Thanks again!
great lesson Andy Sounds amazing!
This is the best tutorial for this song that I have ever seen on UA-cam !
Great job ! 👍 and thank you for this tutorial!
Nice tuning tip👍 great lesson, such an amazing song with a gazillion memories attached
As usual, an absolutely outstanding tutorial of a beautiful song. I don't know how you manage to break these pieces down, because I've puzzled over this thing since 1970 and never figured it out, but I'm glad you do.
Please make more lessons on yes songs. I would literally pay to see more yes lessons from you on songs like close to the edge, gates of delirium, heart of the sunrise, etc etc
Completely brilliant, Andy. 👍
Well done! Yeah the tuning really makes the difference. Thanks for figuring this one out I always wondered what tuning it was in and it whether it could be transposed onto a guitar. So bravo man!
Simply brilliant!
I boughtthat when I was a little kid in the 60s the yes album wonderful music
You are amazing Andy!!!
Beautiful! Thanks!
You always get things Spot On! Great lesson on a great tune...
ALWAYS a great day when a new tuning opens up a beloved song! Yer doin' the work of GOD MAN!! muchos gratias.
Another great video Andy! Thank you.
Nice, sounds beautiful!
You are the master. Great job. Thank you!
I watch a lot of guitar tutorials. You are the best. Thanks!
This is great! As usual! Thank you for posting this. One of my favorite Yes songs. Steve Howe is no joke!
Wow! Amazing arrangement!
So great. You're the best, man.
Nice work again my brother, Bravissimo !
This the most awesome lesson so far! Thank you! I love this tune by Yes, and you are obviously a brilliant musician, to figure out the tuning on guitar, to achieve the same sound as the original instrument used on the studio recordings! Tuning the guitar so when you add the capo is just very impressive, and obviously a necessity with most guitars/strings! I was told the actual instrument used was an Adzuki.( not sure if that’s the proper spelling). But, you always nail the sound of each song, in every lesson and that is Awesome! Also, adding the harmony at the end was perfect! Thank you for the precise lessons! It’s a joy just to listen to the entire intro for each lesson as well! Keep them coming please! Fantastic!😎😃👌
What a great lesson for a good song. Would have never attempted without this video.
This tune always brings me to tears!
Stunning, thank you
wow great showing on tuning,...i only played the Tommy shaw and jack bruce version, an unplugged one they did on their duet acoustic tour years back... in standard tuning......this is awesome thanks
Hi Andy. Heard you're not doing too great at the moment. Hope to have you back in the saddle soon. You are a fine teacher and such pleasant company of an evening when the family are away to bed and I can get my guitar out. Wishing you good health sir. Oh and I made a donation too yesterday. Everyone should if they are getting something from these tutorials. C'mon loyal subscribers! If Andy can't work just now he can't earn so I'm sure even the smallest of donations would be welcome
A great song! Thank you
Yesssss! Finally some Yes songs! Thank you!!
Sweet! Love this song!
Wow! This is awesome, thx so much. I had been playing in standard tuning & this sounds SO much better (& yeah the end of the intro is whacked timing & I never got it right so we made something up as to when the others would come in 😀). Now to unlearn & relearn. Again, thank you!
This is so beautiful.
You are awesome, I never knew why I should use a capo and now I'm going to buy one ASAP.
We learn something old every day, it's just new to us, thanks.
Many thanks from Corsica. More Yes will be so good
THATS AWESOME ANDY👍👍👍♥️♥️
Top Man Andy ! Love the lesson... more new lessons pleaseeeeee :)
Awesome!
That was brilliant
So beautiful ty
Fantastic!
Amazing song! Amazing lesson! Enjoyed listening to it! Doubt if I’d ever be able to play this song.
YES !!!!!!!!! Love this song ! Danka
No way!! Beautiful!
great song thank you your the best.
Well done.
Fabulous job Andy! I have The Steve Howe Guitar Collection book that confirms pretty much what you’re saying about the Portuguese 12 string instrument he used. His sister bought it for him! Great story !
the best teacher and player with yours lessons than you!!! Jp
Wow, thank you for that. I had figured long ago it was an open tuning but never for the life of me could figure out what it was, especially on a 12-string. Always wondered if there was a way to adequately interpret it in standard tuning.
Oooooh how wonderful! This is awesome.
I play this, in an easy way, Standard tuning, without the Intro. I am able to sing, but did not find a way to play it that good.......but now! thanx a lot! When I get it right, I will upload it and will inform you. Hopefully in this life!🤔😉😇
Great!
THE DISEMBODIED HANDS STRIKE AGAIN!
I'm breaking out my capo and tuner!!
GREAT LESSON!!
so good.
Brilliant
Thank you!!! YES is my fave band of all time. I have their chord book but it’s nice to watch a tutorial cause I am no Steve Howe! 😃
Wonderful ❤️🤘
you the man!
Superb ! Oddly enough I never bothered to learn this correctly despite it being one of my favorite acoustic intros. I knew it was either multi tracked with a 12 string(of some sort) and/or like capo'd Nashville tunings or something. I've heard others play it in standard tuning which didn't sound wrong but it was obvious to me it was always missing something important, that is, this tuning. Nice job as always.
Your videos don’t sound good, they sound phenomenal. Between the open tuning and the capo, this really sounds like a 12-string. Gets Saturday off to a great start! Thank you.
WOW... Ive always played it in standard and it just never sounded quite right
NOW I know why!!!
Great Job
Thanks for all you do
I play it in dropped D but also on a 12 string tuned down 3 steps.
@@kingrobert1st hmmm... Thanks Robert. I tend to keep my guitar tuned a whole step down in general. I might give it another 1/2 step down but I'm thinking it's going to make those bass strings a little TOO loose.
@@imspartacvs I use 11 thru 50 and my bottom C# becomes B when I tune it down. If it slaps abit try 12 thru 52.
@@kingrobert1st I finally tried tuning up to it for capo 2 and didnt feel comfortable with stretching the strings so I tuned it to use capo 3 -- C#-G#-C#-G#-C#-F -- I Think :)
Again... Thanks sooo much to Sup & Play for this posting
great lesson....now for movement #2
Nice, ! YES!
Thank you for the hard work and great lesson. Would really enjoy your take on Styx Crystal Ball for a future vid.
