I've commented before on some of your other posts, but I just want to confirm that after 50 years of playing, I've yet to see a better tutorial page from anyone. I've searched dozens of players' tutorial sites and by FAR, you are the best at the most accurate at displaying (closest) to the recorded artist's original recordings. I don't your name but you do a helluva job. And folks, this is a labor of love. The man puts in the work and the time. I'd play with you anytime. I go NOWHERE else to find the real deal. Kudos.
@lawnmaster1 SU&P only! Over the years, I've converted several friends, (and some strangers) to this excellent channel. He taught (in great detail), the live 12 string solo performance of "Still You Turn Me On" by Greg Lake of ELP. Just to name one great lesson. I do learn some songs from the Marty Schwartz yt channel when SU&P doesn't have them. He's a great teacher also, but nobody else has the style, technique and precision of SU&P.
Led Zeppelin III was the first album I bought when i was about 10. in 76. Loved Jimmy's acoustic stuff. And here I am 46 years later learning how to play it properly! Cheers 🍻
This particular composition, I believe, ranks right up there with any of the Classical masters' immortal wonders. A timeless Immortal Masterpiece it is indeed.
Been playing for almost 55 years, last 25 professionally, both solo and last 15 years with a band and I still say STFU & Play is the BEST instructionals ON YT!
im from guatemala thanks for the video. I’m 44 starting playing in the 90’s then had to stop in 2006. I just got playin again and Zeppelin is my favorite band.
My first choice in learning to play any song! Andy, you are far and away the best guitar teacher on on the internet and that's because you connect with people. You don't talk DOWN to them! Thank you again for the time and money you spend to give us all great lessons and advice!
Man it took me an hour and now I can see that I am on my way to confidently playing one of my all time favorite songs! You're the very best teacher! Thank you SO much!
Yes but it's mostly due to his songwriting abilities. Anyone can play hundreds of notes per minute. Look at Ingwie. But can you write good songs AND play great leads? In that regard Page has no equal IMNHO.
Remember, this was the album that created all the negative press for Zeppelin because it was so far ahead of what anyone else was doing in 1970. It's an incredible album that produced so many classics.
I have been wondering about how to play this for "so long its not true" thank you so much for putting this out there. Great tutorial i will deffo be coming back to look for other stuff.
I've been learning from you for years, and not only do you provide the best and most detailed guitar instruction on UA-cam, but the black shirt and the black background give your lessons such an added professional quality. Thank you for your dedication to teaching and making it enjoyable for others, like me!
Beautiful song, brilliant lesson!! No other song reminds me more my teenage years and that girl I fell in love with on the summer of '91. Now, playing it on the guitar brings back fond memories of pure freedom and endless night. ☺️ Thank you much! 🙂
Sincere thanks for the lesson, you are a talented person and you have decided to share. I am retired and the guitar is my great companion, and now I enjoy your classes and have fun playing your songs. The lord bless you.
I was waiting so long for this, 6 months ago i was trying to learn that and when I couldn’t find your lesson I just gave up. Thank you so much for being this amazing!!
Since the low E string isn't used in this song, I tune the low E up to G in unison with the A string that is tuned down to G. It allows you more flexibility in hitting that bass drone and gives a nice unison sound when you hit the E and A strings together on the bass notes.
Andy what comes through, what is plain for all to hear, is your absolute love of Zeppelin songs, particularly Jimmy's incredible acoustic work. Just makes this so enjoyable and inspiring me to keep reaching, thanks cobber!
You deliver every time, sir. You're my favourite guitar teacher on UA-cam. I'm betting I'm not alone here. Thanks, as always, for laying it down with every nuance in mind, and taking us through the process slowly but succinctly.
Nice tutorial, and thank you for taking the time to record it and post this. Normally I play my Taylor guitar but after learning this song and finding videos where Jimmy Paige plays this on a 12 string…it got me to pull out my Ovation 12 string and give it a try. I had almost convinced myself that I really didn’t need that 12 string anymore as it was just languishing in my closet for years. But, thanks to your video…I have fallen back in love with my Ovation again. In fact, this song sounds so AWESOME on a nice 12 string that it has ruined me from playing it with 6 strings forever! Gotta go now, its time to Shut Up And Play.
Greetings from Wales…. Zep territory indeed. Thank you for this masterclass. This song demonstrates what I’ve always suspected… peel away all the strutting and electricity and the real heart of the band is melodic acoustic.
Just donated , and you are most welcome. Sitting down right now learning this and transcribing with pencil to tab. Much appreciate your presence on the web.
If I had to choose one favorite Zep album, it would be #3. It really was a departure from the amazingly heavy and foundation-setting sound they had come to be known for with the first two albums. But, it wasn't a weak or phoned-in effort! It was just another direction and I love it.
Three was was befuddled critics and threw everyone off. Then in response to being too "commercial" they released the next album with no name, no information whatsoever, just the catalogue number on the spine and a picture of an old man carrying sticks on his back.
I have always wanted to play this beautiful song and now I can thanks to you. Thank you so much for making all your outstanding tutorials. For my taste, I think you're the best teacher and have on of the best guitar tutorial channels on You Tube. The way you play and teach at the same time are just outstanding. Thank you !
Thank you, Andy, for such beautiful music you make for the world !!! I/We are all so grateful and thankful for you, your kindness, your talent, your love for all things music, your willingness to share... God Bless you and yours! Fran Danco
Hi Andy. Heard you're not doing too great at the moment. Hope to have you back in the saddle soon. You are a fine teacher and such pleasant company of an evening when the family are away to bed and I can get my guitar out. Wishing you good health sir. Oh and I made a donation too yesterday. Everyone should if they are getting something from these tutorials. C'mon loyal subscribers! If Andy can't work just now he can't earn so I'm sure even the smallest of donations would be welcome
You’re the best! I was just searching for a lesson on this song and your video came up. You’re my favorite guitar UA-cam and I can’t believe you made a lesson for this song. Thank buddy!
Great lesson and no blah blah blah like some teachers on youtube. You just get straight to the point with the right information at the right pace, thanks so much. BTW I had a go at playing along with the record and I think they drop it a semitone in the recording. Judging by Robert Plant's voice it's definitely the recording detuned, not the original guitar. They probably wanted to make it sound a bit darker and more mysterious. A bit like Strawberry Fields by the Beatles.
You’re the best man. Your tutorials rule supreme. If I want to play some stuff, and am unsure about some compositions, I turn to you to back up my ear and various crap tabs online. Keep up the good work !😊
I was just listening to this yesterday and thinking I need to buy a 12 string and learn this song and many others. I always enjoy and learn from your videos. Thanks so much!
This song inspired me to buy my Taylor 12 string! Guess i have to learn it now! Hey Andy, you are such an inspiration to so many here, not just your playing, but your obvious love of the songs, and your wonderful humanity in providing so very many lessons for all us wannabe's. Thank you so much, me personally, i owe you so many beers i would be broke!
Andy, your head must be so swollen from all the truths being told. And so it should be. Thank you so much for taking the time to figure out how the Master plays his songs. I've been a Zep fan for a long time and I must say you nail all the songs. The Rain Song is exactly like off of Houses of the Holy. We could all go on and on and on. But hey, thanks man for the countless smiles, laughs, lessons, and the oh my god, I got it!!!
Hello from Russia! I have long wanted to learn this song, it really sunk me, it is really relaxing. Although I do not speak English enough to understand English speech by ear, I still understood everything purely visually. Thank you so much for sharing this! You are an excellent teacher! I will share your video with my friends. :)
Thanks Jerry. I put a lot of time and effort into making these videos. I like to keep them free for those that can't afford it, but if you can, please support what I do. Cheers, Andy www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html
Love it, love it, love it, love it. So ethereal and other-worldly with all the little riffs and melodies ringing out on the open strings. This is accurate and precise. Now just teach me how to sing that in cadence with that riff lol.
"You don't have to be the greatest guitar player to make this sound good". Thanks for making this lesson just for ME! Lol Thanks for all your lessons. You are the BEST!!😎👍

I used to try this in open d using a e chord shape. But for this I am now doing it correctly in open g and learning it fresh. Also, I am doing it all on my 12 string. It sounds very nice on that, but I need new strings.
Thanks for the awesome lesson. This tuning is how they played it live but on the album the guitar is tuned lower. So, if you want to play along, play along with a live version. Also, sometimes Jimmy played this on a 12 string.

I absolutely agree. You can see how much work goes into these videos and the accuracy is top notch‼️
Led Zeppelin III was the first album I bought when i was about 10. in 76. Loved Jimmy's acoustic stuff. And here I am 46 years later learning how to play it properly! Cheers 🍻
It's never too late! :)
And the critics hated this album. Say Zeppelin went soft.
One of my all-time favorite albums.
same here pal!
Ancient guitar rule say “tune an open G, must play That’s the Way”. That’s the rule! The most melancholic tune ever.
When I think of the word melancholy. That’s the way. Is the definition . It’s universal
I was playing brown sugar...til a friend texted me that David Crosby had passed.... :( must also play some csny
Isint it played in open A???
I was wrong it is not, I wonder what zeppelin song I was thinking was tuned in open A off zeppelin 3 as well
Can it be played in standard?
This particular composition, I believe, ranks right up there with any of the Classical masters' immortal wonders. A timeless Immortal Masterpiece it is indeed.
Been playing this for two years, knowing I am missing some subtle elements, that you have now clarified. Andy, you are the best. Thank you.

Thanks a lot
Yeah, I have to agree with this comment =)
It’s truly incredible how many amazing lessons you’ve done at this point! Thanks a million.
And he's good at teaching. Thank you ✌️❤️
Beautiful sound. Jimmy Page had so many beautiful acoustic pieces.
By far the best player and instructor I’ve seen. Thank you so much for sharing all of these.
Well done. These songs must be preserved for their stories and beauty. You are doing it and I thank you for that!
I always run out of superlatives to describe Jimmy Page's work. He is an absolute genius. The greatest to hold the instrument.
Yes but it's mostly due to his songwriting abilities. Anyone can play hundreds of notes per minute. Look at Ingwie. But can you write good songs AND play great leads? In that regard Page has no equal IMNHO.
