    Holds 85 cars, was first designed in 2007, construction began in 2009, completed in 2011, 90m long and 16m wide and 14m high, launched in 2010 and delivered to Kennacraig in 2011, Finlaggan serves Islay and Colonsay and also Indirectly serves Jura. I love the noise of the ferry, I hear it everyday on UA-cam, it’s the classic Polish Remontowa ramp and door alarm

      Great facts, carries more cars than I thought, for some reason I was expecting it to be smaller in real life but was pleasantly surprised all round. Wonder how the MV Isle of Islay and MV Loch Indaal will compare?

    • @FinlagganYT
      @FinlagganYT 6 місяців тому +1

      @@craig.bryant MV Loch Indaal and MV Isle of Islay will carry 127 cars which is 42 more vehicles than Finlaggan which can only carry 85 cars, the new vessels for Islay will be bigger which 8s why there are Dredging works and Terminal Development Construction works happening at Kennacraig, Port Ellen and Port Askaig possibly even Scalasaig to prepare for the new vessels which will be delivered between October 2024 and February 2025 after launching and sea trials. There will be more modern computerised equipment and touchscreen features in the captains bridge like Finlaggan with the electronic chats and the ectus or ictus (not sure how it’s spelled) and various other features too. Finlaggan has touchscreen controls for lights and wipers but cars still use the traditional levers and buttons that are tangible and not on a touchscreen. Even the interior will be more modern and automated. Any more questions, let me know

      @@craig.bryantyes, I’m excited for the two new vessels that will compliment Finlaggan, I also have videos of Finlaggan construct and launch I’ll put the links in a separate comment, I find ferries berthing and making noises so entertaining, I love it so much I watch videos of Finlaggan everyday, I get so excited and I love the noise of the ferry, those bow doors are exquisite.

    Great video of the Finlaggan experience! I did the route last year but booked the MV Isle of Arran both ways...Love it a bit more! This vessel did originally have a public forward viewing weather deck over the forecastle, but I believe it is no longer accessible due to a safety incident a few years ago.

      Thank you!
      Great to know, just read that about the forward facing deck today, wonder what the incident actually was to close it?!

      @craig.bryant I used to go on IoL to THE isle of lewis when it operated there, the loch seaforth is nice but I prefer the IoL. I will go to Barra one day just to go on IoL

    Craig your sheer enjoyment and enthusiasm which is very evident in your CalMac related videos really enhances your filmed coverage to great effect. Also your knowledge and pronunciation of places you have visited in Scotland is first class. As a born islander on the isle of Coll many years ago I share your enthusiasm for Calmac travel around the inner and outer Hebrides including vessels I have had the pleasure of sailing on probably before you were born - Your channel is superb and I wish yourself and your beautiful wife, Rachel much happiness and excitement on future episodes of travel. --- ( I recommend Oban to Coll & Tiree plus return usually on MV Clansman or at the moment MV Lord of the Isles ) --- Robert.

      Thank you Robert for your lovely comment. Coll and Tiree are on my list, especially to go on the LOTI if possible! Buzzing I’m getting the place names pronounced correctly, I think Geordie and Scots similarities help with that, I don’t do so well with Irish Gaelic if you’ve seen in my other videos. All the best 😊

    You should go on the Newcastle-Amsterdam route with DFDS Seaways

      It’s painful to admit being a Geordie that I’ve never done it, high up on my list but is sadly very expensive!

    What route will Finlaggen be put on after the new ferries arrive?

    • @craig.bryant
      @craig.bryant  6 місяців тому

      A great question that i can’t work out yet, there will be lots of cascading of vessels and depends which of the older ones will survive. Can see the Heb Isles going to Alagia (ferry land of the dead!). I think the Finlaggan may end up on the Oban-Craignure Mull route alongside the Isle of Mull until that itself is replaced, or join the Glen Sannox on Troon-Arran until the Glen Rosa is finished. Could even see it joining the Hebrides as a second vessel on the Uig Triangle - who knows?!
