In Peru we have a place named "Islay" too. It is incredible to know that exist an island in Scotland with this same name.

Regarding whisky, you've got something wrong: Bruichladdich is not the only distillery on Islay making unpeated malt. Bunnahabhainn also makes unpeated malts.

Currently sat in my room in the harbour Inn next to the bowmore distillery having done a tour of Laphroaig and a tasting at Lagavulin earlier today. Can 100% confirm it's a great location. Nice quiet roads friendly locals and great seafood and whiskey.
I will definitely be coming back again.
Sad to be leaving tomorrow having only arrived yesterday. 🙁

Bruichladdich makes the only unpeated whisky on Islay? Have you not heard of Bunnahabhain?

That and Caol Ila also do unpeated whisky runs for special editions and blends.

@@motosnape For Christmas Eve I’m getting an Ardbeg 10 delivered to my house from my local liquor store (liquor stores delivering in my state is the only good thing that’s came out of the epidemic Lol). I’m pumped up to finally get it. The first scotch I ever tried was last Christmas and it was Lagavulin 16 and I loved it! I jumped right in the deep end on the peated scotches and I loved the stuff. 😁

@@mikeappleget482 Try Talisker next. Similar in style to the Islay scotch, but with more Highland influences. To me it tastes like Old Pulteney mixed with Ardbeg. Then Try Highland Park and Ardmore....both are peated, but the peat on the mainland is more wood based (Islay is moss based) and gives the malt a more campfire character without the medicinal notes. Its a welcome change from Islay every once in while.

I've wanted to go to the Hebrides since my 20s & it hasn't happened yet, but... I think the calm you mention, as you show all that green moss etc is due to the green. At least I love all those colors & textures! Bright colors are not for me. I appreciate finding this tonight because this morning I was wondering where he wrote that book & you answered for me! Strong contender to visit. Thank you!

To be honest unless you want to tour the distilleries or try out the golf course there's not much else on Islay. We only found one dog friendly cafe (called 'Labels') and there is only one real campsite if you are in a campervan or tent at Port Mor beside Port Charlotte. We visited in September 2019. We enjoyed going over to Jura and camped overnight at Corran Sands. We did buy some gin (the Botanist) and whisky on Islay. The ferry company Calmac have very friendly helpful staff though they can't seem to be punctual so just 9/10 for the ferries.
