In vietnam the ferry boats are not overcrowded and have restaurants and stages for performances and affordable food and are extremely fun.

Two of the ships still plying the river back then were paddle steamers, built in the UK with paddles on either side rather than across the back like the Mississippi steamers. One was called the Rocket and the other the Mail.

Keep in mind that those people are very poor and are OBLIGED to be living the way they are. Did you notice the way they are dressed or the way the workers handle the ship's rope using their HANDS? Although there are very comfortable seats on the ship they travel standing during the trip because they can't afford those seats? You'd better not be judging and fooling around them because I bet that you wouldn't like to be in their shoes.

My wife and I were in Dhaka last month. The life on the river was very interesting to see. The river right at Dhaka is considered dead as there wasn't any fish or plant life except for some plants that had washed down from upstream.
it is where they dump corpses in India ,throw rubbish and anything unwanted human waste the government of those countries in that small continent need to be more responsible

You're judging the pilot on your country's standard. That's called ethnocentrism.
Makes I easier to blend in with the crowd being rescued after the boat sinks.
@@renininan3037 Not much difference from American government (FAA) who take bribes from Boeing and certifying jets and results in crashes! I can talk about many other cases (like lobbying in medicines) in western countries, but I’ll stop it here.

None are 2nd hand boats there, they’re all newly made in Bangladesh, engines were 2nd hand japanese / american

How on earth can this ship be safe for its passengers. They're lucky that it doesn't sink with so much weight and ready to tip over.
Bangladesh considers itself as a fast growing economy. All they need is projects to clean up the river (stop polluting points and establish STPs) and build two to three suspension bridges at the needed locations (these bridges should have lanes for vehicle traffic and sidewalks on both sides for pedestrians as well). Both India and China have the expertise to complete these projects. Bangladesh can seek their assistance. After these bridges are built, those polluting boats can be sent to scrapyard.
I was just going to say this, all they really need are a few strong, well built suspension bridges that will last for decades.
Or a underground metro,road too
What they really need is birth control and women's rights.
Do not trust construction from the Belt and Road initiative. Several African nations have discovered this.

Since sewage has a specific gravity of about 1.3, if those ships left to go out into the ocean, they would sink. Check out the freeboard at 2:44. Maybe if one of these goes down, since they are on a river, the top level would remain above water, but all of those packed on the other levels will be in a scramble.
This reminds me of one of those disaster documentaries. They weren't sure how many passengers were on board, but it was four to five times the legal limit. Sure we had totes of gasoline on board, but the caps were on them. We kept the food vendors with their propane bottles away from them. Who is the captain? We're not sure, he likely isn't using his real name. We think he is wanted somewhere. How do you get insurance? We can't. What happens if the ship sinks? Apparently, it isn't completely clear who owns the ship.
Yet India made it to the moon.....

As always, it's a function of priorities, and society's structures: safe transportation and water for the common man versus transportation to the moon. In the U.S. we have a space program, yet door plugs come out of planes and tires fall off them, but in a very limited situations. We have a space program, yet some of the local governments have botched clean water.
