It says the Navy wanted to make sure they are gone. An immediate arrest would have played out better for all of them. Leavenworth bound. Scrutiny never hurt though... I suspect a unit commander's future just went down the tubes.

It's illegal for any active military to take part in a protest or demonstration. They knew that. They should've had an article 15 & court-martialed, stripped of their rank, and dishonorably discharged. Jan 6th was a weekday, so they obviously applied for paid leave from active service to attend this rally. I spent quite a bit of time at Fort Meade some years ago. I was a cleared foreign visitor.
The dining facility is massive and usually quite full. Conversations are easily overheard.
It surprises me not at all that people stationed at Meade were on the Capitol. Whilst there I heard some of the most blinkered, violent, bigoted, racist chatter it has ever been my nauseous displeasure to hear. This was several years ago, but these stains linger. The US has unusual criteria for handing out clearances and strangely lax academic and intellectual tests for entry into the periphery of its intelligence community. I am not surprised at all to learn that a fellow posted to Meade was gallumphing like a Neanderthal round the Capitol.
