Assuming you’re the UK, I think before Jan 6, they would have been similar reactions. No way your country is going to make it worst by telling your army to lock and load. Of course now that this has happened, I’m sure your government has had a tabletop exercise on how to deal with this if it were to happen. I didn’t realize how much things were tense when those riots broke out last month.
As bad as Jan 6th was, and it WAS awful, it had the potential to be so much worse. I'm still a bit shocked by it all and very embarrassed as an American that my friends in Canada and Europe were also watching this on live news feeds as it was happening. I was a kid in the 60s seeing some of the war and civil rights protests along with racial riots and civil unrests. Even seeing some of the BLM protests in my own city both peaceful and violent, but as bad as these were, none that I can recall had attempted to overthrow the government, violate the Constitution and stamp out a democratic process. All incited and encouraged by a current president.
This is just crazy.

To be honest, getting worse (say some congressmen and many more rioters killed) might actually be better for this country. Trump would be impeached succesfully with his faction discredited, no place for election deniers for a while at least. Now the autocratic faction is slowly but steadily taking hold of the republican party, things could play out worse in the medium or even shorter term.

As recently as the 1970s and 1980s the whole city was still basically wide open for visitors/tourism for easy access to all the museums and important buildings and security was lax or non existent I’m told.
I was born in 1984 and by like 1986 they were already stopping people from entering or at least from driving through some areas of the city but even in the 90s I’m told you could walk right past the White House gates along Pennsylvania Avenue.
The Capitol Police partially let the rioters in. Many National Guard units and police units were immobilized due to the shock of the attack and also uncertainty about whose orders to follow (the sitting President's or the Congress leaders'). Police units did arrive but weren't effective in stopping the riot because 2000 people (many armed) were swamping the place.
This is why I’m staying out of American politics for the meantime. There’s so much radicalization, it’s just not worth it anymore.
That’s a very bad idea because that’s how radicals gain power.
That's what the radicals want u to do, both the left and the right, to stop out of either loss of faith or sheer exhaustion.
It's not going to get better. It's only going to get worse from here.

Pelosi's daughter was filming (she makes documentaries). She also revealed the location where all of Congress evacuated to (Fort McNair), which had previously been a secret to the outside world. So... Those tunnels under the Capitol connect with Fort McNair. I'm sure our foreign adversaries love learning things without even having to dig for the information.
