Dr J was one of the few stars and draws to the NBA at the time , and yes , the league was still going broke until Bird and Magic showed up ! Dr J is definitely a top ten player of all time ! Jordan before Jordan !
Mr Erving was the first NBA player to enter pop culture as a player. He brought the NBA to the general public He goes back to before Magic and Bird. Mr Erving brought some fantastic medicine for what was ailing the NBA, but he was just patching wounds. Bird and Magic (the big NCAA final and Celtics/Lakers histories didn't hurt) brought the general public to the NBA. Michael took the NBA Global.
dr j didnt save basketball like Magic and Bird. the video says, and correctly so, that Dr J was like the first ROCK STAR for basketball. ppl like HIM, not so much basketball.
Aye, Dr J was big enough to that he shined beyond basketball to folks who didn't know it, Magic & Bird got those folks to tune in, watch and start spending money.
aba sucked they had a few good players but not near enough, teams often switched cities from year to year etc... they tried to be like the afl before they merged with the nfl but failed miserably. Dr j was cool except his shooting was well not good. despite every member of his team being hall of famers Bird still manhandled them in only his 2nd year without the help of his eventual teammates
Ur being extremely disrespectful. And there was a lot more than just a few hood players in the aba. No to mention how revolutionary a lot of the Ava’s concepts were. Mikan as their first commissioner implemented the 3pt line nearly a decade before the nba, the acrobatics of the leagues high flyers like Dr j, gervin, McGinnis, Thompson, and Gilmore. Elite guys like Mel Daniels, young Moses, Dan Issel, Roger brown, Ron Boone, and Rick Barry. OG sharp shooters like louie Dampier, and Freddie lewis. Those players were a large part of the evolution of the game going into the modern post merger era.
Dr J will always be the coolest guy in all of basketball.
I will always watch dr j he's one of a kind for sure!!
