Yes, Billy is from Predator. The loud police captain is also the loud police captain in the Arnie film "Last Action Hero". Ganz and Luther were both in the AWESOME movie "The Warriors" and Luther was also the main gang member in "The Crow".

Thank you for this reaction. So few people watch Walter Hill directed movies and that is too bad. They are always full of action and he does use actors in more then one of his movies. Ganz and Luther (James Remar and David Patrick Kelly) both were in his movie "The Warriors". Another great movie of Walters is "Southern Comfort". An edge of your seat movie.
Walter Hill is the king of action! I love his movies. "Streets of Fire", "The Long Riders", "Extreme Prejudice", are all great Walter Hill movies as well. All his movies have killer soundtracks!
Truly one of the great cop/buddy action films out there. The studio originally wanted to Clint Eastwood and Richard Pryor for the roles, and honestly I would LOVE to see that version of 48HRS. I still enjoy Another 48HRS just a little more though.
Chock full of damn fine character actors, but no better performance ever as "The Angry Police Captain" than Frank McRae. Never gave a bad performance. ❤ We lost him in '21 at 80.

Eddie Murphy is an all time great. The range and ability of Jerry Lewis. Started on Saturday night Live when he was 17. Started doing movies, by 20. And he was in 3 movies that changed everything..... comedy, buddy movies, buddy cop movies, soundtracks, race relations, u name it. Trading Places, this, Beverly hills cop.

I was an SNL fan day one in 1975, I was 11. When the OG cast left the show everyone thought it was over. Eddie Murphy single handedly saved that SNL. Everything he did was comedy gold! I saw 48Hrs. opening night back in Dec/82. I was already a Nick Nolte fan from "Rich Man, Poor Man" a classic mini-series and a great movie called "The Deep", which I highly recommend, written by the same guy who wrote Jaws. I was so excited to see Eddie in his first movie. I remember thinking "I hope Eddies funny". Well I didn't see Eddie. I saw Reggie Hammond and a movie star being born. A very cool thing to witness. Oh ya this guy is a movie star! Hats off to Nick Nolte for not being bother at some young talent who will steel the lime light, but using that talent to work off. Nick play Gates just like he should be. 48Hrs. is a master class in chemistry. Watch this movie again look closely at Nick's and Eddie's body language. They are performing a dance. I've watched this movie many times. They are so good together! Great bad guys too! I think Nick really punched Luther. Another great buddy cop movie from the 80s is "Running Scared". Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. Again a master class in chemistry. Gregory Hines died to young at 57 in 2003. He was one of the greatest dancer of all time. On UA-cam watch an old tv special with Gregory Hines and Steve Martin tap dancing. So much talent.
During the hotel scene at the beginning of the movie, you yelled, “Call 911!” You may not be aware of this…But the Emergency 911 System we all know of now, didn’t exist yet when this movie was made.
Bro… they didn’t have 911 forever. Back in the day you had to dial the police department or the hospital directly or ask an operator to lookup the number for you or pay for them to connect you.
20:33 This movie is chock full of people who later on went to higher profile roles. The blonde girl is Denise Crosby granddaughter of Bing Crosby. A few years later she played Lt. Tasha Yar on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Jack’s girlfriend is played by Annette O’Toole who played Martha Kent on Smallville. Jack’s fellow cop is played by the late Brion James. He played the replicant Leon in BladeRunner. Prior to this James Remar (Gantz) and David Patrick Kelly (Luther) played in the cult classic movie The Warriors. That film was also directed by Walter Hill. A few years later, Kelly played Sully in Commando. Remar has had a long career playing tough guys on both sides of the law. The late Sonny Landham went on to play the scout Billy in Predator
The actor who played Billy was so notoriously violent in reality that film insurance companies required him to be appointed a bodyguard during filming to protect other people from him.
When Nick first came out, I think in Rich Man Poor Man....he was THE it boy! He was Brando/Dean #2. Then Hollywood kinda ate him up, specially with drinking and partyin. But he still started in a great list of movies, 70-90s, even some big ones past that. Tropic thunder, Tides, Frailty, and others. Part 2 of this is pretty good as well.
I can always tell the difference between Nick Nolte and Gary Busey by remembering this simple mathematical equation. Nick Nolte + GHB = Gary Busey, which can also be solved in reverse as, Gary Busey - Motorcycle Accident = Nick Nolte
The guy who played Luthor (David Patrick Kelly) is the same guy who played Sully in Commando (1985, you've seen/reacted it). The guy who played Albert Ganz, (James Remar) has been in tons of movies and TV series, usually playing the bad guy. And, OF COURSE, you should recognize Sonny Landham (Billy Bear) from Predator (also playing a character named, Billy). We see Johnathan Banks (Algren) teamed up with Eddie Murphy 2 years later in Beverly Hills Cop. Why didn't they call 911 ??? Because it wasn't available nationally for many more years, and the script was quite probably even written years before the movie was made, so it didn't make sense for the people who made the movie to include it, since many would not recognize it as "normal"

Fun fact: The loud mouth police chief played by Frank McRae also played a similar loud mouth police chief in Arnold Schwarzenegger's film Last Action Hero. He was a more exaggerated version in Arnold's film.
In 82 I would have been 16/17 when this came out, and I did see it. That scene introducing Murphy is legendary for the entire decade. Whenever anyone sang Roxanne, you no longer though of The Police, but you thought about Reggie Hammond sitting in that chair singing it throughout the prison. 48 Hours is an immensely satisfying movie. Although, even in 1982 I can in no way see that cowboy bar in San Francisco being a thing unless is was ironic and gay. But yeah, this movie cemented Murphy as a god damned presence in 80s American culture. He and Nolte have amazing chemistry together as two guys who do not fucking like each other but begrudgingly respect the hell out of each other. That fight scene is right up there with the fight scene from They Live as great 80s fight scenes.
"Jack... Tell me a story." "Fuck you!" "Oh, that's one of my favorites." Fun Fact Theatrical movie debut of actor-comedian Eddie Murphy. What Script Fact: According to Nolte in Nick Nolte: No Exit (2008), most of the dialogue between him and Eddie Murphy was improvised. Location Location Fact: The garage where Reggie's car is stored is the same garage where Dalton's (Patrick Swayze) Mercedes is stored in Road House (1989). Method Actor Fact: James Remar often went without any sleep before shooting his scenes in order to give bad-guy Ganz a more washed-out, psychotic look. Prior to filming, Nick Nolte spent several weeks submerging himself in the role of Jack Cates by interviewing San Francisco, CA, police officers and eating foods he felt were fitting to the character. Stunt SNAFU Fact: During the filming of a scene where Denise Crosby hits Eddie Murphy in the stomach with a rubber baseball bat prop, Murphy was afraid Crosby would actually hit him instead of stopping about a foot away like all staged movie blows. She demonstrated her control on both Walter Hill and Nick Nolte to assure Murphy, but ended up hitting him anyway during a take. Gun Enthusiast Fact: The weapon carried initially by Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) and then taken by Albert Ganz (James Remar) at the hotel shootout, is a Smith and Wesson model 29, 44 magnum with a 4inch barrel and custom wood grips with finger grooves. The loaner weapon issued to Cates at the station house is a Government model Colt 1911 A1, 45 automatic. Cates seems to carry this pistol in the same shoulder holster he used for his 44 revolver. In reality, this is impractical as the two weapons have very different contours. Probably a different holster was switched in for the automatic pistol. The weapon procured by Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy) while waiting for Cates at Vroman's, is a snub nosed Smith and Wesson model 19, 357magnum. The weapon used by Billy Bear (Sonny Landham) is a Colt New Frontier. This is basically the classic western six shooter only with more modern sights. However, the adjustable rear sight seems to have been removed from the weapon used in the movie. During his initial arrest, Luther (David Patrick Kelly) shoots at Cates with a Colt New Service revolver, most likely a 45 calibre issue. Oddly, the front sight appears to have been completely filed off of this weapon.
No way ...another gun guy here..glad to see someone else appreciates and passes the info about this movie and the cool guns used. Usually don't see much attention paid to them from regular movie watchers.
MadHatter-ek7vh ....Look out for my comments. I often list facts about the firearms used in a movie, but not always. Hollywood never uses "fake" guns, but blank bullets. I figured that ignorance of firearms leads to fear. Now these things are not toys, but a healthy respect for them as tools is what makes America free. Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
911 wan't everywhere until the 90's. it was still more common to dial the operator in an emergency in the 80's

That fight scene is right up there with the fight scene from They Live as great 80s fight scenes.
"Jack... Tell me a story."
"Fuck you!"
"Oh, that's one of my favorites."
Fun Fact Theatrical movie debut of actor-comedian Eddie Murphy.
Amen to that man ...thanks and you too bro.
This and the next one are two of my favorite movies.
48 Hours made Eddie Murphy a star!
Fun movie!
can't wait for THE DESCENT!
Yeah i would also love to see J react to that movie it so good.
Great pick Jay. Great movie, I understand why this isn't reacted to by other channels more often
I didn't even recognize Mike from "Breaking Bad" until you mentioned it.
The Indian dude also in predator. A true crazy man, he typically had to have 2 security guys on his movie sets....to keep him out of trouble!
34:06 - Sonny Landham was in Predator. In fact his name in that movie was Billy too
Harlem nights is an awesome underrated Eddie Murphy movie
I love the old Eddie laugh it's the best I wish he brings it back for his up coming Beverly hills movie.
In the 80s, Casio was the poor man's Rolex! 😂
