Two of us canoed Loch Awe some years ago and we camped in that castle ruin. I also recall a strange village shop I think in Dalavich which was the original "Shop for locals"!!
That shop is still going, the cafe is lovely. I think the canoe is the best way to explore it, as you get to go to all the amazing islands too. I would love to do that soon!
I cycled along loch awe on a bike packing trip, I couldn't believe the length of the loch Also cafe at Dalavich is 10/10 worth a visit if passing, great content as usual Markus 👌
Hey Stephen, thanks a lot! Agreed, the cafe is amazing, and I loved all the castle ruins on the east side. Looking forward to write this all up for a new book now (:
Thanks Alison, yes, it is a really nice and very quiet route. Especially in late summer, autumn, when the midges have done their job. Highly recommended!
Nice one Markus. Which GPS unit are you using there? I'm still on an Etrex (and rechargeable AA's with a Pixo charger), but am wondering if I should take another look at what's out there…
Hi Graham, I am mostly using my Lezyne Mega XL for those shorter rides, as it syncs with Komoot. I love the e-Trex and use that for longer rides, as the mapping is much better too, but for those shorter ones it is easier to have something that syncs with my phone. The mapping on the Lezyne is very simple, which I thought would a disadvantage first, but have grown to like the simplicity. Battery life is, compared to other modern units, very good.
Great video. roll on 2023
Thanks Gwyneth!

Will check this out. Looks lovely.
Thank you Martin. I have just finished routes for a new book, and this will be included too.
Great video, looks beautiful regardless of the weather. Lovely to see it from the perspective of the drone, so different.
Lovely part of Scotland, and I was pretty lucky on the two days. Highly recommended!
