I could listen to and watch Asha skate. Every day of every week for the rest of my life. Easily one of the most graceful street skaters. Have yet to come across anyone else that moves like her.
Hahahah thank you! I am very comfortable on streets because I commuted for years all around London as my only form of transport, so I learned a lot of scenarios..... Plus I;ve been cyclist all my life too so that alls helps with road awareness. Skating is where I feel 12 yrs old again, every time.
This is by far the best powerslide tutorial I found on youtube, the step by step approach is extremly useful. Absolutely great work! I learned it by use of this video. For me it was hardest to get the slide. The points I believe are helpful when struggeling at this stage are extending the sliding leg, getting all wheels at the same time on ground and of course bending the other knee as much as possible. Been practising now very frequently for about 6 weeks, think I managed to do powerslide in one move already after 2 weeks but have to say it is not of practical use for me until now because it cost me so much overcoming that I would not be able to execute it in an "emergency"-situation. And can only do it at low speed. Plan is now to practise more going backwards to get a safer feeling at the backwards-entry.
Hi Asha. You changed my life. The best powerslide lessons I ever seen. With your lessons I could make a powerslide in my second trainning day. I dont know that I can learn so fast. Thank you so much.
All this time. Just been sliding into the powerslide. Can come back to Asha, any time of the year and always pick up something new! Thanks for the videos!

Nice comment, thanks. These mored detailed lessons I made with Powerslide really hold a lot of essential information for someone wiling to try it out and practice.
the only method of stopping i mastered so far, after 20yrs of break from skating, is to spin, aside from heel breaking. i have to practice this powerstop cos it looks cool. 😁 will try other methods such as parallel and hockeystop after i improve lol. thanx for the tutorial 😊

I had to laugh at how spot on you are with the assumption that a lot of expert skaters do not know how to stop... I am one of them. I am pretty good with the T stop, and never ventured into the scary power slide. I have an excuse though.... I am no more in my prime, and falling takes a hard tall on me when it happens. And it still happens....
I agree with you, but by not learning to stop well (and i mena learning the powerslide) you are just increasing your risks every time. Learning new things is possible without falling if you do it properly and take it progressively, like the video shows. Most people make the mistake of rushing through all the exercises instead of spending perhaps weeks on each one perfecting all the details....Check out my student Laurence's self learned powerslide he did from this video. It's on skatefresh.com home page, just scroll down. He said he was surprised at how he managed to learn it just by video. Hope that motivates you. While you are on skatefresh.com you can choose a bunch of free video tutorials (beginner or more advanced) so you have even more to keep you busy. I'd love to help you.
Thanks Asha; I subscribed to Skate Fresh. I will look at your tutorial videos. Allow me to introduce myself. As Parisian born, I started inline skating a long time ago, at the time it became popular in Paris, and we started to have all these outings Friday's and Sunday's. This was then. Skating is no longer that much in fashion, sadly, and I am a lone skater in the lone star state. But I kept the enthusiasm intact.
Excellent video! I also believe that 3 wheels are the future of inline skates. A pity they are so hard to find to sell here in Brazil. Very few options at prices not accessible to most of the population.
Yes good skates are extremely expensive here in Brasil. it's a shame that at the moment they are out of most people's reach. But with time this will change.
I enjoy your Videos you are a wonderful teacher ! I have a Right knee injury left over from my time in the Marines. What is the Best way for me to train my Left to be more dominant leg to help relieve weight off of my right Knee ? Thank you !
I had never tried backward powerslides before seeing the video. Somehow, I have no idea why it's much more easy to me compared to the forward powerslides. Perhaps, I stay really low when I start to use the powerslide backward. :D Still learning how to use hockey stop because the feeling is totally different from ice skating. This backward powerslide is also useful during ice skating.
August ice skater turned rollerblade here. Still an amateur but it's like I can learn how to do these stops on ice first. It's how I learned the T stop on both sides, forward crossovers on both sides, braking with heel, plow stop, etc.
mrs. asha iam from indonesia i wanna many questions about.skate line you can praticing for me in your a videos... trying stoping, trying in the street and other ... i wanna do.. thanks mrs. i love youre channel.. and than iam so sory about my language is bad. because a trying speaking to hehehee
where can I learn how to teach a bit like you do in Miami? I just want to teach my love ones so the get the feeling you get when you gate confidence on skates. thanks in advanced..
Thanks for your tutorials as always. I managed to learn how to back powerslide from this video. Otherwise I would never have tried. 😇😇😇👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 So, this is the jump entry; what about the lunge entry (don't you like it?)? Could you give us a brief explanation about the foot rotation? I guess one should be on the ball of the foot and try a 180 but I'm having a hard time with it. Also, I tried to check your manual about stops for advanced after briefly seeing them (that's where I realized the name of the maneuver i was trying) on your website without much success. Is it still available? In none of your apps there is any mention about those advanced stops either.... I'm sure with your teaching style, anyone would get it. 😇 Thanks as always Asha and all the best!! I'm starting the advanced app, and your secrets to backwards skating are 👌🏾 PERFECT! But I wondered why not having them in the intermediate one (where it could greatly improve the balance...). Anyway, I am where I am in this journey thanks to you!!
I would be a bit scared to try to stop at very high speed with this method. I normally make the T stop and if I go too fast, I spread my sliding leg almost horizontally and it´s quite effective. Nonetheless this method looks interesting, despite it also wears the wheels a lot just like the T stop.
You should only use this stop at high speed after a lot of training and confidence building. But when it is trained it is 3x faster to stop dead than any T-Stop ever could be (just so you know). I wouldn't skate fast without it. The Tstop is a far inferior stop in terms of physics as the brake is dragging behind you. In the powerslide the brake is in front which ups the risk but once nailed its supremely efficient at killing speed to a stop. I teach the Powerslide in huge detail in 3 different lessons in my new Online Stopping training which I launched earlier this year. This product will be available again in 2017. If you don't want to miss these kind of launches and new online coachings im offering, sign up to my online community and you'll be notified any time I have a free tutorial for you or a sale. +SkatefreshAsha Thank you so much for this tutorial and all the others you have shared with us! You have been my awesome online instructor since I started rollerblading and I can say that no-one explains the technique better than you. I also bought your apps and they were extremely helpful too. I highly recommend them to all the inline skaters. I have a question. I relatively easily do this slide on wet surfaces, but when I move to dry asphalt, the wheel start "catching" the asphalt even with the whole weight on the well-bent carrying leg and good forward lean of the torso. The sliding leg barely touches the surface, but still stops instead of sliding. I was wondering if the softness of the wheal rubber has something to do with it. I use 86A SHR (which stands for super high rebounce I believe). Thank you very much for your response in advance!!!
I just got new wheels for my inline skate and finding it very hard to do the powerslide. The wheel is powerslide’s matter juice F1 and its hardness is 86A. Is it because the wheels are new or these wheels are harder to do the slide? Thanks Asha!
Hi Asha, is execution of the powerslide affected by other factors? I find that: powerslide is easier to execute on smoother surfaces I.e. freshly paved roads), harder wheels (85A vs 80A), and somewhat worn wheels. I always have trouble sliding if my wheels are freshly replaced. >.
It depends on what you hope to accomplish on your skates. Personally I like 3 wheel setups more, because It allows bigger wheels, which makes skating faster. But the lower center of gravity on 4 wheels is also a big plus, especially when learning. So it's all about which stage you are in, and what you want to get out of your skates. - Kasper
This is fun and good to practise but it doesn't make sense not to use the heel brake. Out of all stopping methods the heel brake I think is the most effective and versatile method as sliding brakes take a lot more time to master and are not effective on surfaces like rough klinkers. Plus a heel brake saves the expensive wheels from wearing too fast.
I really like powersliding, it's so sick, but the problem is that all these slides kill your wheels. And sliding can even scrape the metal off of your frames.
Yes I agree. It is THE best advantage of heel braking is that the heel brake is cheap to replace and wheels are not so much! Everything is a compromise in life.
Sorry about that. I have a hip injury which means I can't do hockey stops anymore which is a great loss as it's an awesome stop, but it is a big process to learn and doesn't coem easy. I made a detailed lesson of how to hockey stop in my Stopping online training earlier in the year. This product will be available again in 2017. If you don't want to miss these kind of launches and new online coachings im offering, sign up to my online community and you'll be notified. while this is an already 3 year old video, i would still say, that it is important to point out, that the backwards powerslide is NOT ideal or the safest option to break at high speeds.
soul slide or magic slides are FAR more stable and far simpler to do.
try doing a backwards powerslide at 70 km/h for example, or in rain.
backwards powerslides are INHERENTLY unstable and require far more skill and setup than the soul slide or magic slide breaking methods.
soul slide is also a faster breaking method due to reduced setup at least, but also through being able to put a lot of pressure on the front breaking foot, while staying extremely stable.
backwards powerslides are a fancy thing to do or try, when u want to learn something new, but it should NOT be a part of your main breaking method progression on inline skates, if your goal is maximum safety, control and stability and breaking speed.
