Bro, I looked a long time to find a proper tutorial about how to stop on skates and yours is by far the best. You explain and show everything so properly categorized in progression levels and even talk about potential setbacks... Awesome 🎉
This is definitely one of the best tutorials on stopping that I've come across as well! I love the progression. I honestly got a little discouraged when I got the transitions down and still couldn't seem to powerslide. This just made it click! 😁 Also gives me a heads up that I'm closer to getting the simple power stop than I thought! Cheers! 👍🏾
Funny how this was my 1st recommended video!! I've been watching alot skate videos lately and this one was actually something I needed! Great explaining, can't practice it right now but i will tommorow! Thx UA-cam and whittyskater :D
@@whittyskater Ive watched alot of tiago inline skater if u know him, that's probably why ur recommended to me, but your instructions are better then his :)
Great video and explanation. I tried imagining a cone like you used on the powerstop today and the change was immediate. I’ve struggled with spinning out of it but this really clicked with me and helped. Thank you and keep up the good work!
So I haven’t been rollerblading for years (since elementary or middle school) because I had worn down my old skates so much. Well a couple days ago I finally bought my self a new pair of skates and was skating for the first time in years yesterday. Surprisingly I didn’t have trouble actually skating (though I had been ice skating a few times this past year). Only problem I had skating yesterday was the stopping. My skates have a brake on the back of he right side, however it didn’t help me much with stopping, so I am going to try a couple of these techniques next time I skate (whenever I don’t have to work.)
First thing you should do is remove the brake! These things are downright dangerous once you start skating switch ( going backwards) . Keep on rolling !
I have watched tons of videos trying to learn the power stop , and none helped me. i ended up falling down and never understood the technique.. However, following your steps, it finally clicked on my head and managed to do my first power stop from the first day , i will practice more to master it. No word will be enough to thank you for sharing it in such a professional manner.. keep up the good work
I am a beginner in inline hockey and I started 2 years ago but I got my leg fractured last year in the major bone and now I've again started but I've forgot all the basics This video helped me in learning to stop again. Thanks!
Thank u so much. Before I saw your video, I have felt so crazy with stopping over. It took more time that I want. It was a reason why I still prefer ice skating. I know what I should do now. Great job😉 Have still fun with skating
I like the basic power stop, you do it so well. I need it for abrupt stops while skating in the streets. If you can do a further breakdown, and also more tutorials thanks so much for the good effort n time dedicated to this..more Please 👍😅😅
@@harryblaise thank you for watching and I'm glad you liked the tutorial! The basic powerstop is my 'go to' stop when on the streets. I hope to do more tutorials in the near future. People are already suggesting some ideas which is great.
This was much more helpful then other vids i have watched. The progression step by step and methods for learning the different stops helped me understand it better. Thank you for this great video.
Wow a tutorial that is an actual tutorial. I mean that in a very non-sarcastic way. So far every "tutorial" I have seen on braking is basically a list of different techniques. You actually take the time and have the knowledge to break down steps and prerequisites. Thanks
@@whittyskater , What do you think about these braking solutions, it seems that the brake has the shortest way to stop. An example is in the first shot of the film. Regards, Irek ua-cam.com/video/IJmdOsGvd6M/v-deo.html
this is great info. ive been skating (a little bit) for years (mostly short distances to a store) but i never really figured out how to break. so far i always did the 'pizza' technique but that takes way to long or i'd just slam into something i could grab on to. now i've got something to practise
Just found your video after searching so many on how to do powerslide and powerstop. You break each step down incrementally, which helps so much. Thank you!
Thanks alot for your positive feedback. That's awesome you have just started. Good luck with your skating. If you have any questions about anything please just ask.
Great video thanks to you I now have a confident stopping technique at least when I’m fully padded up and only after one session. I’m having more issues with the power slide as I’m very right foot dominated. Thanks again I love you videos as it’s great to see another British skater dealing with the surfaces that we have in the UK. The councillors in my city have done an excellent job providing guidance at crossings for the partial sighted.
That's so great to hear my video has helped. Good to hear from another UK skater as well. We have to embrace our bumpy paths and roads. I enjoy the challenge. Good luck with your skating. Any questions just ask.
G'day mate from Australia! Great video. I just subscribed. In my 40's learning to skate. taken some heavy falls but I love it (skating, not falling). thanks for helping me to improve my technique.
Hello there! Thanks for the sub. Much appreciated. That's awesome you have taken up skating. Unfortunately falls are part of the learning curve but they will get less often. Good luck!

Really you teach us inna good manner i learn more in i will keep practice on power stop and on power slide really very essential for me in Kabul Afghanistan 🇦🇫
Nice and useful drills. I think it is a bit easier to add a powerslide after the drag. For example you drag your left and add a powerslide sliding with the right. That way for the transition into the second slide you only need to turn your left another 90 degrees. For the combination you showed the drag foot needs to come completely forward from far behind. This needs a lot of momentum. It is more spectacular, but it is also a bit more difficult. At least for me...
This is exactly what I was looking for, everything explained clear and I really like that you showed "steps" how to learn every technic. Really good job 👏
I'm still having a hard time with the track stop (T-Stop). I always spin out. I do end up stopping but not in the correct manner. :( I think maybe I'm not shifting my weight correctly.
I had exactly the sane problem when I started. Try keeping more weight over the forward foot and try to remain fairly upright. Eventually your body will learn how to distribute the weight so you will stop spinning out. Good luck!
This is the best tutorial I've seen. Perfect explanations that I could understand immediately, and it looks like you put a lot of work into the video as well! The slow downs are so perfectly done that I didn't need to pause or rewind the video in order to catch what was going on. I also really appreciated that you not only mentioned, but also showed some of the common mistakes. Being able to see how that makes it harder or could cause a fall really helped a lot with my understanding of each technique! Immediately subscribed, your other videos also look great, and I look forward to experiencing your content!
Bro great video. Probably the best vid out there for intro stopping. I'm having issues getting the initital parallel turn for the powerstop though - I just can't do it. I try to scissor my feet like you do but the only way I can get myself to turn is by moving my back foot up - I'm essentially doing an A-turn at that point. Do you got any extra tips for getting the turn down?
Thank you for watching. I would suggest putting a bit more weight on your inside foot as you do the turn. You can lean slightly in to the turn to do this. I think this will help in keeping you feet scissored. Also start with wider turns first. The wider the turn the easier it will be to scissor your feet. You can then slowly make the turn tighter and tighter. Hope this helps!?
Thank you so so much for this video, I learned how to rollerblade when I was very young but then stopped for years and now I’m trying to pick it up again but have forgotten most of the skills that I’ve learnt, so this was extremely helpful!
If you have a local skate shop try there first. Otherwise online will be your best bet. I can recommend Locoskates. They are a UK based skateshop but ship all over the world. Check out their website.

This is very well done. Calm, clear and appears achievable. Much appreciated. Thanks for the effort and for sharing your skills in skating and teaching.
Thanks for watching and thanks for your positive feedback! 🙏
Bro, I looked a long time to find a proper tutorial about how to stop on skates and yours is by far the best.
You explain and show everything so properly categorized in progression levels and even talk about potential setbacks...
Awesome 🎉
I love how you break it down so much and show all the different things that might go wrong so I know I'm not just horrible at this.
Thanks very much for watching. It's good to hear UA-cam is recommending my vids to people!
@@whittyskater Ive watched alot of tiago inline skater if u know him, that's probably why ur recommended to me, but your instructions are better then his :)
@@DarkVillainBe I like Tiago. He has a great channel.
Great video and explanation. I tried imagining a cone like you used on the powerstop today and the change was immediate. I’ve struggled with spinning out of it but this really clicked with me and helped. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching. I'm glad the idea of a cone made a difference. Keep practising and you'll soon be a stopping master!
I appreciate that you not only show what the stop looks like but how to practice it, thank you!
Thanks for watching.
This was incredibly helpful the way you broke-down each stopping technique.
It's great to hear you are back on skates. Welcome! I hope the stopping vid will help you out. Any questions please just ask!
If it helps, maybe you could remove the brake
First thing you should do is remove the brake! These things are downright dangerous once you start skating switch ( going backwards) .
Keep on rolling !

I've watched many "How to stop" tutorials. This is the best ever! Thank you very much. I wish you all the success with your tutorials!
Thank you very much. I'm glad you liked it!
who else is watching since the ice rinks are closed?🙋🏼♀️
Sofia Menlös yep, I decided to buy my first pair of rollerblades since I miss the ice rink and they are so much harder to ride than on ice
Good luck. If you can ice skate you will soon learn to blade!
WHITTYskater thanks! :)
charbel kerbaj I bought mine off Decathlon, you can get them on amazon too but I recommend decathlon
I got mind from Locoskates, fitter over the phone from foot measurements.🤣 They do fit. Yes, an ice skater will pick this up very quickly.
I have watched tons of videos trying to learn the power stop , and none helped me. i ended up falling down and never understood the technique..
However, following your steps, it finally clicked on my head and managed to do my first power stop from the first day , i will practice more to master it.
No word will be enough to thank you for sharing it in such a professional manner.. keep up the good work
I am a beginner in inline hockey and I started 2 years ago but I got my leg fractured last year in the major bone and now I've again started but I've forgot all the basics
This video helped me in learning to stop again. Thanks!
Glad it has helped you
Thank u so much. Before I saw your video, I have felt so crazy with stopping over. It took more time that I want. It was a reason why I still prefer ice skating. I know what I should do now. Great job😉 Have still fun with skating
Thanks for watching! Good luck with learning to stop.
Absolutely beautiful explanation. I will definitely try all of these next practice session :)
Love these videos! Keep it up!
Good luck at your next practice. Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!

Thanks alot for your feedback. It's great to hear that this tutorial was helpful for you.
somehow i think this is by far the best how-to stop video guide i came across on YT
really appreciate all the detail given , much thanks !
Thanks alot
Wow a tutorial that is an actual tutorial. I mean that in a very non-sarcastic way. So far every "tutorial" I have seen on braking is basically a list of different techniques. You actually take the time and have the knowledge to break down steps and prerequisites. Thanks
The best tutorial i have seen on Yt. Ty
Thank you for watching!
I agree!
Best tutorial ever made .. thank you !!
Thanks alot buddy. That's very nice of you to say!
Yeahh!, :)))It is perfectly presented. You have the ability to teach :))))
Thank you!
@@whittyskater ,
What do you think about these braking solutions, it seems that the brake has the shortest way to stop.
Thank you!
Glad it helped.
Wow, great tutorial! You really made it so simple to understand! I've also just started skating so this is really helpful, thx a lot !
Thank you for watching. It's great that it was simple to follow. Good luck with your skating!
Best tutorial I've seen so far, thank you! I've just started skating so this is really helpful
Thanks alot for your positive feedback. That's awesome you have just started. Good luck with your skating. If you have any questions about anything please just ask.
thank you for this!! I've been skating for almost 2 years and still haven't got the powerstop down, this may be the time I finally get it
Thanks for watching. Hope this helps you nail the powerstop. Good luck!
@@whittyskater thanks! really appreciate it
WHITTYskater just a little update, About a month later and I got a pretty solid powerstop! Thanks so much again for you video
That's great!
Thanks for posting this and especially for showing the common errors as well.
Best tutorial by far! I found this really helpful! It saved me so much time!
That's great to hear. Thank you!

Thank you for watching from Afghanistan! I'm glad the video is helpful. Happy skating.
Skating specifics aside, this is an absurdly well made tutorial. I wish every youtube guide was like this, thank you!
Thank you
Thank you
That final shot of the power slide was enough to get me to put my skates back on! Thanks for the tutorial
Thanks for watching
Amazing tutorial!! Explained everything extremely clearly, and helped me a lot. Thanks, man!
Thankyou for watching!
Thanks for watching. I've never really tried dragging with one foot and then sliding with the other. Seems like a good idea. I'll give it a try!
Grab you a pal and get out there. Here some motivation. Subscribe for more content ua-cam.com/video/8_RzJvkPYRA/v-deo.html
Nice tuts! However there is one important thing that I could add to all three stops. And that is: STAY LOW!!!
Thank you. Yes! Great advice!

saved this for favorites and keep consulting latter. Thanks!
This is exactly what I was looking for, everything explained clear and I really like that you showed "steps" how to learn every technic. Really good job 👏
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching

Good luck!
@@whittyskater thank you! I practiced more today and I'm getting better. Still wary of the power stop, going backwards at speed is my next goal.
Glad you have found this video helpful. It's worth all the effort when it it helps people. Thanks for the sub.
Very Detailed explanation, really helped me!
That's great!
I thought stopping on the rink would work with inline skates....But i was dead wrong
Yes it's quite a bit different! I tried my inline stops on ice and went flying!
On ice??
Why
Inline skates are roller blade but meant for stunned and stuff they are still stakes why would u use them on ice
Battery Boi it must be a comment mistake, I mean would people actually use roller blades on ice?
Bravo ❤️👏👏
Thankyou.
The best video on stops I've watched so far. Well done and thank you!!
Im gonna practice these in my grandma’s basement smh #coronavirus
Good luck!
Bro my inline skates have 90mm rubber wheels
It has many problems
Where to buy new wheels
If you have a local skate shop try there first. Otherwise online will be your best bet. I can recommend Locoskates. They are a UK based skateshop but ship all over the world. Check out their website.
No problem with the wheels I have 85mm ido all of them
LOL that last one is not an option at all, I can see myself now busting my ass
Watched this so many times during the summer 2020, stumbled upon it again and boy do I miss that summer skating in shorts and a t-shirt. Practiced power stop using the technique here and it's pretty decent now. This summer it's power slide time.
Yeah looking forward T-shirt weather. Good luck learning the powerslide
One question!! I think it's going to damage wheels 🤔🤔🤔(but great video keep going)
Your wheels will wear if using these techniques. But as long as you rotate your wheels and also learn to stop on both sides they will be fine.
Who tf disliked this video??
Maybe people who think dragging your expensive wheels on the ground to stop isn't a good idea! That being said, the explanations were very clear and despite the questionable info, it's definitely not worthy of a thumbs down!
“ Make sure you have good protection” while having no pads or a helmet.
Yeah, bad example but he seems very experienced unlike me and you probably
He IS wearing knee pads. And why should he be wearing a helmet for showing basic stopping techniques? That advice is for beginners struggling, we are all free to decide what protection we should wear, if any depending on the circumstances...🙄
I love the way these techniques are being broken down. It is incredibly helpful. Thank you
Thanks for watching
I knew how to do the T stop but I stop roller blading almost 2 years ago because school is got busier but since the quarantine I have been trying to improve my skill . Thank you 😊
