What I love about Ahsa's tutorial is that unlike other teachers where they skate super fast, Asha demonstrates it really slow and easy. It opens up way for me to practice and gives feeling that I can do it. Thank you so much!
Asha thank you so much for this tutorial. I think it was a great idea to use a student to show every step that lead to a not so good powerslide to a good one, making us know what is the right way to do things but also explaining what are the common mistakes that we do. Usually when I look for a skate trick tutorial I use to watch a lot of them treating the same argument and then I chose what is the best explaination to follow. Obviously I found that yours is the best as many other tutorial you made. But here comes the funny part. Today (sunday in Rome, Italy) I was at home with my wife and she had to work so she said to me : "If you feel bored why don't you go down skating in the garage?". So I tought maybe it's not a bad idea : there are two Asha's tutorial that I wanna try, the powerslide and the right way to do a transition from forward to backward using scissor position. It makes no sense going on watching ten times the same tutorial if then you don't go to try. So I went down to the garage and magically following what you said I was able to do a decent (maybe only about 5 inches of slide) powerslide in less than 5 minutes and i also made my transition smoother. I was really happy I did it. Thank you so much, you're really precious. ALESSANDRO

You did a Powerslide after 5 mins!!!! Now it’s a 12 month project to getting your PS up to your medium speeds. Then it becomes the most efficient effective and impressive ways to stop (I use it 95% of the time”. You are on that road! Well done. Keep it up. And thanks to your wife for nudging you there 😉

I've just started skating (Less than a week ago) so I'm still struggling a lot with just standing on rollerblades and doing basic stretches/walking on the spot etc. It takes sooooo much more muscle than I could have ever expected. So far I've managed to travel around 30m down my street before I lost control and fell. The next step is learning how to stop ;) I get so pumped and motivated to practice or just go out and work on my balance or muscle development every time I see the amazing things people do on wheels and I really can't wait to impress everyone around my area with my epic power slides! Interestingly, where I am, most people I know who skate are women so I'm hoping one I get better I can drag my brothers or housemates (who are men) into skating with me.

Amazing. That's mu goal at the moment as well. But she has much better control going backwards. My other struggle is going backwards scissors. It feels very awkward to have one foot in front compared to when I go forward.
Yes backwards scissors takes time to develop but it's worth it as all fluency backwards comes form the backward scissors for ue. Try just 1/2 scissor positions first and just learn the steering in that position first. Then move to 3/4 scissors and finally full scissors. Hope that helps.

@@SkatefreshVideos Hey there! At the moment i can do it slow. when im faster im scared of transitioning into backwards tho, probably because i cant skate backwards safely yet. i tried another method i found on youtube by northern skatesman, he does the powerslide in one motion. i still have trouble turning my standing leg around tho. Do i need to learn skating backwards before i can do powerslides at greater speed or is there something else i might be doing wrong?
Me compre unos patines High light y estoy aprendiendo.
You're welcome! I'm glad this was helpful. If you like this video do check out my website for the Free videos there which contain more details than I usually share on Facebook. Skatefresh.com - Learn Online - Free Trials
Great teacher!! I can do it in not very high speed. But I would like to know how to do the transition in high speed, when I go downhill and I want to stop. Thanks in advance
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. It's just a matter of practice increasing the speed bit by bit. You can also try to do a hop or a lunge entry instead. Even though it sounds dangerous to hop at high speed, if you do it right it's actually safer than having one of the skates touching the ground (like in the mohawk transition explained here). To understand the hop you can watch this video ua-cam.com/video/MRCTOOaRZC8/v-deo.html and if you want to do it using the lunge entry (which is the one Asha uses all the time) watch this one ua-cam.com/video/VOgvDKxAhjo/v-deo.html On a slope the lunge entry will be safer than the hop. In all cases, before doing it downhill you must be able to do it on a flat surface first. It should really feel like second nature before taking a slope.
Just still learning this myself, but switching for the other leg to brake after turning around seems much more complicated and dangerous when you need a powerfull stop when going a bit faster. I'll try it anyway slowly to get the feeling and agility.
Hi. This is Sergio from Skatefresh Team. It's just a different approach and depends on the skater. Asha and I we don't do the whole turn either; in fact, we usually jump if we are going at very high speed. It's always better to keep an eye towards the direction of travel, especially going fast. This approach however it's easier to get the feeling, as you said. Great you're practicing! Keep on it and you will get more and more comfortable every time. That will allow you to increase the speed bit by bit.
Hi Asha ! I bought your online course on the powerslide. There you teach this transition into powerslide, and I would like to ask you if you would use this Mohawk transition into powerslide at high speed (in a case where transition corresponds to the right one to have the sliding foot ready), if instead jumping is better and if all the exercises you propose in the course are usable for a jump transition too...in the Mohawk transition you always keep your feet on the ground while you usually suggest not too at higher speed... Let me know!
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. In the mohawk into powerslide the feet are not kept on the ground the whole time. You are supposed to lift one foot to get into the side surf (AKA eagle) position for some milliseconds and then lift the foot that will slide. This entry to powerslide is safe at high speed, however the hop is safer. The difference is that with the hop you need to be perfectly aligned, with the right weight distribution, and with the right angle on the sliding foot, when you land. It's like one move only and in the air. Many people find it tricky because of all the factors have to be perfect together, but it's not really rocket science. The hop is actually a natural step further once you get the mohawk entry; so yes, you can use the exercises to learn the mohawk entry and then add the hop. Those who have a problem with the side surf position may prefer the hop instead and go to it directly. Asha uses all the entries but mostly the lunge.
Nice work and tips for a fast progression. I’m training the exact same and it works fine at low speed. However, I would like to be able to use a powerslide as an emergency braking technique when at high speed and I find thta it’s the transition to backwards that is the scariest part of the move. Jump into backwards and slide in 1 move is what I end up doing, but it’s a 1 move thing, so if my weight is wrongly distributed it’s a catastrophy..
You can use a t-stop/drag stop to slow yourself down a bit before going into the slide (at least that's what I see everyone doing - I still can't do a slide...).
@@MrPymx Bill Stoppard does it (drags one foot to slow down) all the time for his power stops. ...Of course, his is a power stop, not a power slide, which he argues is more useful than a slide as it doesn't require as much distance... So, perhaps what you're wanting/needing to do is a power *stop,* rather than a slide...
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. At high speed the mohawk entry works but you may want to hop into the backward powerslide or use a lunge entry instead. The way to learn the hop properly is explained here ua-cam.com/video/MRCTOOaRZC8/v-deo.html and the lunge entry is here ua-cam.com/video/VOgvDKxAhjo/v-deo.html The lunge entry is the one Asha uses all the time. It works at any speed and doesn't require you to slow down first.

Just subscribed to your channel, seems good learning techniques. not sure if it will be easy for me to take my phone and watch learn and practice but so far so good, looking forward to try it all
yassss queen!! It took me 2 years for being able to do powerslide lol
Good stuff. Great teacher.
I'm in Plymouth and well I need help with everything haha .well done Ellie!
love this.
love from india really enjoy your videos
really good detailed explanation
Glad it was helpful! How's your Powerslide?
@@SkatefreshVideos Hey there! At the moment i can do it slow. when im faster im scared of transitioning into backwards tho, probably because i cant skate backwards safely yet. i tried another method i found on youtube by northern skatesman, he does the powerslide in one motion. i still have trouble turning my standing leg around tho. Do i need to learn skating backwards before i can do powerslides at greater speed or is there something else i might be doing wrong?
nicely done!
I loved your video.
Me compre unos patines High light y estoy aprendiendo.
Very nice video
Good girl! You all make it look so easy! Im still trying to do it forwards! 😭
You can do it! The soul slide is a greats top if you have the internal hip rotation.
@@SkatefreshVideos Thank you! 😊 dont think ive seen the soul slide so will have to have a look :O
Don’t address women with “good girl” it’s “nice job ladies.” Not girls women.

lovely
A slide is a sliiide is a sliiiiiiiide. You rock, ladies :D
wow, congratulations to the girl.
Yes she did great!. Most people don't get a Powerslide so fast, but something in her clicked and then she had it.
Good Job!
Bless me so that I may be like you🥰❤️❤️🙏🏻
I need Asha!
so i'm gathering it's all about getting weight onto the back leg and getting the sliding skate leaning over.
I watch your video from Bangladesh🙂🙂🇧🇩🇧🇩
Nice training
Thank you for posting this video Asha. Is this doable in quad skates as well?
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Yes, it can be done on quads. The sliding sound is not really nice, though.
@@cerenademe9433 thar is absolutely what is more commonly seen, but you need time and distance to do this. Like a contolled emergency 😃
@@SkatefreshVideos Hi Sergio, yes this is exactly the refresher course I needed now, thank you so much.
I have watched both in the past, the first one probably more than a year ago, but wasn't ready for the moves.
These 2 videos are packing all the answers to my current questions, except where to LOOK when backwards sliding (I feel this has an impact on my shoulder position, direction).
Thanks again!
Thanks lot
Hello, very helpful video, thank you! Also please could you advise on the brakes to use on trinity mounted 100mm wheels triskates like Powerslide Next 100? The powerslide habs brake S/M seems to be out of stock everywhere recommended. Thanks
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. You mean a heel brake mount? I guess this one could go fine with Powerslide Next 100 www.inlinewarehouse.com/Powerslide_Urban_Inline_Skate_Brake_Mount/descpage-908058.html
Exactly what I was after. Thank you for the prompt reply!
