It's 2:14am in TX and I'm familiar with both, having several of each. I'm here to try and catch some easy tips/hacks/ideas on how to make the inside of my duvet or comforter as thick, fluffy, plush, luxurious, super stuffed, cozy af, expensive looking but really only took about $20 tops, as absolutely possible. ... I ain't catch naaan nothin, though... 😏🤣 Help a girl out, y'all.. what y'all got to help me with, maybe, baby, please? Lol💟
@@Sleepopolis hello, I'm very curious. From a female perspective. Which you prefer or would it be more nicer if a single guy has a comforter or duvet? Like, when you visit him. What you'll find more pleasable. & Yes, I know we all have our own taste. Lol
Thanks for the explanation. It's clear now, and that being said, no one is stopping me to put a cover on any of the blankets, duvets, or comforters that I use :))
I stayed at an Airbnb for about 3 mos in FL and was in looove with the comforter, it was so fluffyyy. I was like damn why is this different than any comforter I’ve had before. Then wash day came and I realized it had a cover on the outside. Now watching this video I realize the whole time it was a duvet! Can’t go back to regular comforters now lol duvets are amazing 🙌🏾
Im glad i watched this video… i spent 30 minutes trying to insert a bed sheet on a comforter and wondered why it wasnt working out, thanks for the info! 😅😅
A comforter is hard to wash and heavy, But I still prefer it since I don't like to go into the hassle of inserting the duvet into its cover, it's a headache to me.
Thanks for explaining.. I grew up in Pa in a house with only a coal stove in the kitchen for heat (no heat in bedrooms), so mom always had us layered under blankets and quilts. We always stayed warm, but getting up was brisk to say the least. Now I am 50 years old and I still sleep the same way most of the time, leave the central heat off at night, cover up in layers, and turn the heat on in the morning.
You made me understand completely the difference between the two...Some people don't describe it correctly to make us know the difference, but you did thank you 🙂
Lay down duvet flat on floor. Lay over the cover. Roll the duvet along with cover from bottom to top. Rollover one edge of the cover over the roll that is formed a the end and gently unroll it. Can't explain it any better but it is a pretty easy method.
I find a thin comforter the best option for summer as my only layer. It’s generally enough to keep me warm if I get too cool under the fan but due to its puffiness it feels more substantial so I don’t feel like I’m missing out
Great video I will buy a Duvet I wash my linens twice a month I will be laundering my comforters this Sunday but the duvet will protect my nice comforters..
I use my comforter with a duvet cover. The question that brought me here is why RL duvet cover is more expensive than their duvet set. Anyways this was helpful.
The snaps inside the duvet cover are brilliant. I love using a duvet but it drove me nuts when the duvet would gather at the bottom (foot) of the cover and all we would have around our head and shoulders is a thin layer of the cover (no duvet). This would lead to my fluffing and repositioning the duvet, within the cover, in the middle of the night. This doesn't make for a restful sleep. LOL Thank you for this information! Definitely going to keep an eye out for a duvet cover with snaps for our master bedroom refresh. :-)
If each person has a separate duvet (twin size) it is much easier, no hogging covers, they don't slip off the bed as easily and each person can have the fill-power (warmth) that is desired.
due to how hard it is to put a cover on a duvet, i use a top sheet under the duvet, which I wash regularly of course, but then do not have to often wash the duvet cover.
Best way to do it is to turn the duvet cover inside out, then put your hands inside until you reach the far corners of the cover and then pick up the corners of the duvet with your hands still in the cover and shimmy it down. Super easy 😊
I switched to duvets a couple years ago and like them way better. I can wash the cover easily and it dries very quick. I have a second cover I can put on so I don’t even have to wait to remake the bed. They are simple to install using the burrito method.
I bought a Brooklinen all season comforter and I find it to be enough alone in winter here in Minnesota. It's seems light and thin, but dang does it warm quick. I don't even use the sheet. A dovet cover seems somewhat unnecessary given this.
In Europe the duvet cover does not have clips or zipper. The duvets are pocketed just like the comforter. You do not need a top sheet that can get out of place if you are one who moves around when you are sleeping.
I love that you are educating people about the differences between a duvet and a comforter. The worrying thing is that at 4:18 you say that you only need to wash your duvet 'cover' about once a month. Really? It is the same as telling people that you only need to wash your sheets once a month.
Thank you, I always wondered what a comforter was. I've never seen one here. I'm English and have always used a duvet. I honestly don't how anyone would cope with a comforter, I presume you would have to wash it at least once a month, and it wouldn't even fit in most washing machines. However... I can't stand putting on duvet covers!!😅😭😬It's a nightmare!!!!
I find that having a separate duvet, one for each person sleeping in the bed, is a much easier way to go. One person may prefer more warmth and the other one less, which is so easy of each person has his or her own duvet. Plus, if one settles the duvet around the body it doesn't slip off the bed as easily and there is no hogging the covers by one person. When making the bed I fold the duvets on wither side of the bed and the cover with a light weight topper of some sort to make the bed look "done". As for putting the duvet inside the cover, just put your arms inside the duvet cover with the "wrong" side out and your arms in the right side, grab the corners and flip the cover over the duvet. So easy!
Who uses a top sheet? Why do u need another layer of sheets over your bed sheets? It’s just another item to wash.. also, it seems like there isn’t a good enough reason to get a duvet over a comforter unless you have helpers who do your chores for you
The duvet can be difficult put comforter inside the duvet so the trick is to turn the duvet inside out then lay comforter on top of duvet then roll from close end until the other open end then flip duvet over comforter and roll open until you have comforter inside duvet
Ok so I've always had comforters. Over time after washing them every 2 to 3 weeks. The fluff would bunch up and the stitching come apart. Would getting a duvet be a better option?? How often would you need to wash the duvet itself. And how often can you wash the duvet cover and have it still hold up.
I have almost never washed a duvet. Maybe once every 5 years. If you want to keep it extra clean you could use 2 covers (one under-cover that you change every few months, and one main cover that you change every week or so, with the rest of the sheets).
@@babkb77b7 well we just sleep with the comforter and a fitted sheet. It's just better for us to have it that way. So that's why I'm going the duvet route so I can clean the cover without the fluff so the fluff stays in good condition longer. I already bought two duvet sets and one white duvet blanket just have to get the sheets and we'll finally be able to use the sets haha. Also the reason I would wash the comforter sets every 2 to 3 weeks was because we only ever had one set at a time. The set we have now we've had for maybe a year or more. And we go wash clothes every 2 weeks.
Hey Tomi! I assure you you are not the only one. In fact, there's no rule that says you can't put your comforter inside a duvet cover (so long as it's a snug fit). However, because comforters do not feature internal clasps that hook to the cover, you might find that it gets bunched up more easily than a proper duvet would. That said, it's your bedding and you should do what makes you feel comfortable!
Don't feel bad or dumb . Want to hear something funny that I did , only because I didn't know any better . Well I was given a duvet cover but it wasn't explained to me how to put it to use . what is your best choice of a real fluffy puffy cloud like comforter or duvet? i want to invest in one but not regret it. & which do you prefer out of the 2 styles? Thanks for any help
Honestly, the biggest difference is natural vs synthetic haha. I got myself a wool duvet and so far I've been having the best sleep of my life. It's warm, comfy, and keeps you from sweating or overheating.. just the right amount of comfort! Organic wool duvet ftw!
Thank so much for showing the difference, I went to caspers the prices are just to much for me, but i have been shopping around and got two for their prices of one, same quality tc and stay safe.
Could you please help me choose which between a duvet or comforter that will be easier to keep clean, be warm in. I have a lot of dogs, by a lot of dogs I mean like eleven dogs that do sleep with me on the bed. Please keep in that the house has two bedrooms in which I sleep in both, and unfortunately, my dogs are NOT potty trained, so they do tend to defecate and urinate on my current bedding. Please help choose, and I will be looking for the duvet or comforter with the design of Superman in queen size, thank you so much. I will be waiting for your answer.
Why can't you put a cover on that comforter? I am daft. I have a comforter and it's basically a pancake. I have NEVER seen a comforter that's that thick. IF it's that thick why can't you cover it?
Thank you So much ! I never knew the difference I always seen duvet in the store for a lot more money! so I don’t bother to buy ,but thank you for sharing ,I think I will try a duvet! It just sounds expensive lol
this was a really informational video, but i have a question, should i wash my comforter every once a while? EDIT: and also, will washing my comforter damage it? my mom says it may...
Covering a duvet vs putting on a top sheet, seems about the same amount of work, maybe less with the sheet. Don't even sleep with a comforter, usually sleep with a top sheet and maybe a light blanket or throw on chillier nights.
So if I use a comforter in a duvet cover will it now be a duvet? Is the cover the only thing that ,changes the name? Besides that the comforter is larger?
Great explanations...leading to additional questions. I will be purchasing for a rental under COVID mandates. I understand the quilting forquilt inside dubet, is it easily washed? Do hotels always wash the inside quilt? Can you recommend a choice for rental as the outside dubet will be washed after every renter. Can you also direct me to colors....Randa
Ted Pearson - "duvet" (doo-vay). What do you mean by quilting forquilt? I can't answer your other questions, but I hope you do wash the cover after every renter... I have heard stories of hotel/motel bedspreads/quilts having bodily fluids from previous patrons doing their thing on the top of a made bed...
Great video thanks a lot, one question. Is that the same filling comforter and duvet? I use duvet its filled with goose feathers but in market we can buy gel fiber and fiber as well, comforter also come with same filling or any other special fillings?
Hey Harinda, thanks for reaching out! Yes, comforters and duvets are frequently filled with the same materials. You can find both options filled with down and feathers, a down alternative (like polyester gel fiber), cotton, and more!
I never heard of a duvet until today :-) I've used a comforter and I don't like the way it slides around. Also, I've found it doesn't do any good to make the bed. A few hours later, it gets messed up again. There's no win.
lol americans. You know how you easily put a duvet cover on? Flip it inside out, put your hands through, grab onto the corners, pinch the corners of the duvet, shake, shove the other two corners into the duvet cover corners, close up, done. Doesn't even take 3 minutes. Also, sleeping "european style". What the fuck is a top sheet? We europeans also use '2 sheets', but the second one is below the mattress cover. Dunno if it's also called that in english, but we call it "molton". Piece of fairly waterproof-ish fabricated cotton that has elastic straps that you strap over your mattress. Never comes off unless you spilled some liquid of some sort that you need to clean up. Protects your mattress.
ok im here asking for help, i want to make a little makeover to bedding and im looking forward on the down alternative comforter and a duvet cover but i dont know if theres curtain measurements for it? I looked on a king size comforter but the duvet cover has different size for the king size so im confused
I could actually care less about a Duvet but this young lady is exceptionally pretty and I liked listening to her, so I made it all the way to the end. *Smile*
The easiest way to put a duvet in its cover is to turn the cover inside out then lay the duvet on top, fasten it in place with clips, ties or buttons then turn it right side out again.
I've never once in my 30yrs used a duvet but I really want to because my apartments have pretty junky 4 old washer and dryers thus it's pretty cumbersome to clean the comforter. Also,Does anyone own a casper mattress,Are they comfy? And can you please recommend me an affordable but very soft comforter or duvet? All the cheaper ones are scratchy and I can't stand it with my sensory disorder. Thanks! 😙👌
So...a "comforter" is just a duvet you don't put a washable cover on then. Ok. Genuinely don't get the advantage of that :) Duvet's originated..at least in widespread use..in Europe - we have always put covers on them, because then you don't need to add a top sheet. You just sleep under the duvet. I have yet to see a duvet that hooks to the cover though. I don't even understand why you'd need it to do that - putting a cover on is really easy and then it just...stays there..in place. Maybe i'm just used to it but changing a bed, duvet cover included, takes me all of five minutes.
Don't you still have to wash your duvet cover weekly if you don't use a top sheet? I guess the advantage is you don't have to fidget with placing it in the cover.
I can't stand either, both too hot and too fluffy. It feels like they suffocate me. I prefer a thin quilt type. Just as cozy but without the bulk and cooler. I wish I didn't sleep hot even in the middle of WY winter I get hot and we have it at 63° and that is me compromiseing, But I did learn the difference. I though the comforter and duvet were the same but people just call them with different words.
Hey Jon, good question. That totally depends upon the specific materials used. That's why it's a good idea to pay attention to the weight of any given duvet or comforter. If you're a hot sleeper, shop for duvets or comforters that are categorized as "lightweight," as those models will do a better job of promoting airflow through the fabric. For an added cooling bonus, look for comforters or duvets that are covered in cotton, Tencel, or bamboo rather than microfiber!

Hi! What's your opinion of SmartSilk bedding?
I'm still confused what is the purpose of a duvet, is it supposed to be the topper of the bed or you use it as a blanket?
Great video thanks a lot, one question. Is that the same filling comforter and duvet? I use duvet its filled with goose feathers but in market we can buy gel fiber and fiber as well, comforter also come with same filling or any other special fillings?
Hey Harinda, thanks for reaching out! Yes, comforters and duvets are frequently filled with the same materials. You can find both options filled with down and feathers, a down alternative (like polyester gel fiber), cotton, and more!
So they are blanket?
I legit shove my comforter In The wash wtf spot wash ? I need it really clean
If I want to protect my bed I used a bed cover its soft and I can wash .
I never heard of a duvet until today :-)
I've used a comforter and I don't like the way it slides around.
Protects your mattress.
i cant believe i watched a vid on duvet vs comforter, but i stuck around for the presenter. now i know i want a duvet though.
Somehow I'm 31 and i just learned what a duvet is. Grew up using only sheets and comforters.
I use safety pins always roll it over the duvet inside out....
Thanks! I was so confused!
Glad I could help!
ok im here asking for help, i want to make a little makeover to bedding and im looking forward on the down alternative comforter and a duvet cover but i dont know if theres curtain measurements for it? I looked on a king size comforter but the duvet cover has different size for the king size so im confused
Thank you for articulating, very helpful.
I could actually care less about a Duvet but this young lady is exceptionally pretty and I liked listening to her, so I made it all the way to the end. *Smile*
I need an organic duvet with cover..... super luxurious, sateen, long staple, 400-600 thread count. Help?
I, am now smart about bedding, thanks!
i bought duvet on amazon cause it looked like a big fluffy comforter. 😭😭😭
David Cartagena you need a cover for it.
Where/how does a weighted blanket fit into the overall equation?
I swear to god they always make putting on the duvet cover like an outtake from one of those made for tv things. Like its not that hard.
The easiest way to put a duvet in its cover is to turn the cover inside out then lay the duvet on top, fasten it in place with clips, ties or buttons then turn it right side out again.
Great tip!
I say, hey, come on, design a comforter with a cover and see the duvet people more confused! Ha!
Thanks! 😙👌
Where’s that comforter from???
So...a "comforter" is just a duvet you don't put a washable cover on then. Ok. Genuinely don't get the advantage of that :)
Duvet's originated..at least in widespread use..in Europe - we have always put covers on them, because then you don't need to add a top sheet.
Please give price details
For hot sleepers, would a duvet or a comforter offer more of a cooling and relaxing feel throughout the night? 🤔
Duvet makes excellent sound proofing
Now I know the difference.. Thank you!
Is a medium or large the same as a queen size in duvet
Lol I havent washed my comforters in years let alone every month lol. Still good
Lol facts🤣 It's too difficult for me to go up and down 3flights of stairs when my apartments washers hardly even wash my clothing anyway!
