Love the flow of the video, very clear and to-the-point! On that note, I would love to see you guys talking about the benefits of wool duvets as I have one and I feel like the perks have to shared! Wool duvets are incredibly comfy and keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer - I mean it's so versatile... and healthy because a pure wool duvet will contain no harmful chemicals or synthetics!!
I went to Ikea few years back and was attracted to one of the duvet's design. Bought it and realised it was just the cover. Thankfully I already have a comforter at home.
The comforter goes inside a duvet which is like a giant pillow case. You can also put a blanket/quilt inside the duvet for a more lightweight feel.. I live in the Southeast and so prefer good quality knit blankets. Thanks Martin 😊
Coming from the UK we use the term duvet as they do almost everywhere in Europe. I'd never heard of a comforter until I moved to the US..... for me they're both the same, you can use them interchangeably with or without a (duvet) cover depending on style & also duvets come the tog ratings that determine the warmth they offer.
Using a down duvet without a cover is gross and will force you to wash more often and ruin it Cotton / polyester comforter is very different than down duvet
This was a great informative video. I was looking at the bed sheets and covers and the duvet kept rearing its mysterious self and had to ask google what is a duvet. thank you for clearing that up. An actual useful video. Peace. Helped me decide that I will stick with comforters instead.
its weird.. I am 70 years old and I am just now hearing about a duvet.. thanks for the neet video.. you are very good and explaining and get right to the point!
Well, if you all are coming to Northern Europe, especially Scandinavia and Finland, a duvet is mandatory in a regular bed making. Like, there is no other option except for a duvet. A comforter, what is that really? I mean, here we have a blanket (well, mainly we use these in the living room couch) OR a duvet in our bed stores, comforter is not existing here. Same probably goes for the rest of Europe, we don't primary use the layer type of bedding that is common in America. Most European hotels don't offer comforters, we have 9 of 10 duvets. Some said that American use comforters because of the climate, in very hot nights you often just want a blanket and a flat sheet. I always wondered why American beds often has several layers of fabric...
Yeah i think only north america uses comforters. Havent seen it anywhere in europe. They all have AC too so they can lay underneath a lot of layers in the summer hahaha
Everybody sleeps differently as 1 size does not fit all when it comes to sleep. I always used down and feather but found them too HOT..... I started using the natural Australian Sheepskin Wool Duvet Comforter from a niche boutique brand Down Under Bedding and I'm not sweating all the time and sleeping better. Check it out 💤💤💤
A lot of bed sheet sets in America come with a comforter which is basically a big fluffy blanket, often they come with a cover sewn onto it with patterns or a design or something. They’re made to be able to he washed at home (unless they’re the very fancy kinds like he is describing in the video)
I’m so mad that after all these years, spending money, and loosing storage space I finally found out about Duvet system. I like changing the look of my bed regularly but I don’t have the space for another comforter. Think I’ll just buy the cover and put it over my existing comforter. Why not? 🤷🏽♀️
This helped a lot. So many other videos out there are just to grab quick views. This one actually addressed the differences of the two. Still not sure why people dont just call a comforter a blanket, still baffles my mind.
Never heard of a duvet in my life. I find it so weird that you have two pieces and both are so expensive Both like 60 bucks!! I just buy a comforter for like 30 but can't find a 100% cotton one anywhere!!
In Arctic climates like here in Norway a Comforter is simply too thin and not warm enough. we might use a comforter or a thin "summer" duvet when the winter ends, but alot people simply use a blanket in the summer.
@@terjeringdalen6298 Lol. I can't even sleep if the temperature is below 25C. In fact, 28C is the most comfortable temperature for me, and I still sleep under a thick comforter. In fact, the warmer it is the better I sleep.
Perfect, thank you. I m from the Europe and I have never use any comforter. We have something like a heavier "comforter" or blanket, but not sleeping under that. Its just more for decoration. Now I know.. I need duvet!

So I'm sittin' there, thinking, "Isn't that oxymoronic?" So I Googled it and found you. Thank you for preaching the truth of these very important terms. ;-)
Oh my goodness! Thank you so so much for clarifying this information for me because I'm getting ready to buy a comforter set but the one I wanted from the place I wanted it from. You've helped me greatly. Now I can move on and order my comforter set that I want!😊

Any comforter can be put in a duvet, and you can multi duvet covers for seasons or different looks and textures. Keeps bedding cleaner especially if you have pets.
I bought a nice down comforter and then had two flat sheets sewn together to make a duvet. Instead of ties or buttons I had a thin matching colored zipper put on it. Using flat sheets gives you way more color options.
Thanks. It was virtually impossible to shop for a new comforter because of these words. It's like they're used interchangeably despite being different things.

Do you know what a Duvet is? - Its a Comforter ? - It’s a blanket. Just a blanket. Now why do guys like you and me know what a duvet is? Is this essential to our survival, in the hunter-gatherer sense of the word? No. What are we then? - We are consumers.
You can absolutely wash your down comforter, if done right! You need a large capacity front loader, it then needs to be thoroughly dried in the dryer with dryer balls (for at least a couple hours).
What am I missing here? I have a down comforter and two duvet covers to switch between. Kind of a pain get the cover on but better than washing the comforter.
I SO wish I'd seen this before I went to Europe. Now I know the difference and much prefer a well made duvet with down filling. Even here in Florida in the summers (think A/C). It truly is like sleeping in/on a cloud. And when you get up, making the bed takes, like 6 seconds. Great video.
I love the flat look of a comforter but after spending anywhere between $50-$99 bucks on some nice ones, after I wash them, they lose their fluffyness and aren't as vibrant. Does it seem more sensible to just use duvets?
A comforter is thinner..and quilted throughout the surface... A Duvet is feather or fibre filled fluffy and heavier..loose filled like a giant tea bag.but requires a cover...its shaken each morning to fluff it up...the warmth rate is TOG..from 4.5 to 13... 4 5 being lightest to 13 for heat...the quilting of a duvet is less giving the duvet loft.....feather filled or goose down..or micro fibre... Range from 10 pounds in uk to 150 pounds ( money )
Yes, this is how it's done. A comforter usually comes in those sets in the store or have designs already printed on the comforter itself. You would probably put a blanket under it for warmth like mom did. Sure you can use a duvet "cover" over it to change your decor. In France a "duvet" only applies to white, thick, down-filled quilted covers that are extremely warm. Any other filling is a "couette" but looks the same. Since they are white, you buy a duvet cover...for change of bedroom design, cleanliness, whatever. I live in France and bring comforters from the US because duvets/couettes are so hot I spend all night kicking them on and off even in winter.
In the USA we use a sheet over the mattress then a sheet on top of our body, then a blanket, then a comforter(or a quilt in winter because the quilts grandma’s make are to heavy for summer). My exchange students from Czech Republic and China were like what is this sheet for(the top sheet ). Well, a protective layer to keep the rest clean so we don’t have to wash the blanket and comforter so often. Plus sliding in a nicely made bed with smooth sheets is amazing compared to just crawling under a blanket. Some hotels in the USA use a duvet over the comforter for easy cleaning. That only started in the past ten to 15 years. There used to be a ‘bedspread’ instead of a comforter(in a huge pillow case, lol, I mean duvet). Bedspreads are old fashioned. There would be a bottom sheet, top sheet, a blanket(or two in winter) and then A bedspread is the decorative top layer but a bedspread also hangs to the floor on both sides and the foot of the bed.
that's what I thought he said too, and I thought, "waaaattt?" but I noticed he slurs his speech and trips over his words often throughout, so when I saw your comment I went back and listened again two more times to that first 30 seconds. I think he's saying "most people 'don't' know the difference but he's saying it fast and melds his words together. It sounds more like "mos people ont know th' diffrnce" LOL
I'm single and have pets. I always buy king size sheet sets and pieces for my queen size. I evolved to using 2 flat sheets to protect my comforter. I winterize and use flannel on top and egyptian or hotel thread count for the underside of my comforter. Warmer weather I spot clean all 3 comforters in the big public washer. High heat dry and checking every 10 minutes with 3 or 4 fabric softener sheets. I spend less DIY, but so grateful for the pros if I'm in a hurry.
In Germany, we have a Bettdecke with Bettwäsche on it (what you call a duvet with bedding covers - if I got it right). I didn't know comforters exist. Wow! Mindblowing.
I just don't agree with what he was trying to say! Comforters are harder to wash, takes up so much storage when you have multiple and it is expensive to change the look of your bed! Duvet covers all the way! They are easy to store, easy to wash and you can change the look of your bedroom easily whenever you feel like it!
@@BellaCW comforters aren’t hard to wash lol,,it’s like washing some towels. if you keep the bags they come in they don’t take up much space. and with a comforter u just throw it over your bed while a duvet is like putting on sheets twice but harder! and idk what duvet covers you’re buying but when i was shopping for a comforter i confused it with a duvet cover several times and the prices were the same
@@sschrute910 so you wash your comforter every week? 🤔 well, I guess the prices are different too, where I'm from a good comforter cost a minimum of 100$ and you can get a duvet cover + pillow cases in good quality for around 12$, so..... yeah. And no, I've never gotten them confused, and duvet covers aren't hard to change at all 🤭
@@BellaCW no when i said towels i was referring to the weight of a wet comforter right out of the washing machine. idk what part of washing it is hard for you so i assumed that. and yes in the us u can get a nice comforter for $60 and duvet covers range from $40-60 for me. duvet covers take much more work than a comforter that you simply lay on your bed. maybe your used to it so it doesn’t seem hard for you but for someone who never has before it’s a lot of unnecessary work.
@@sschrute910 Still seems unhygienic 🤨 I like clean crisp sheets that are washed every week to minimize the risk of bedbugs and shit, but each to their own. You do you I guess. 🤷♀️
You can... that's what I do! really easy to clean plus the comforter is a little heavier than a duvet so it won't move inside the cover or clump up randomly
This guy is dreamy. I like duvets because then I don't have a top sheet getting shoved down to the bottom. Also you can have two duvets on a big bed if two people are sharing. I remember liking this when my sister and I traveled in Europe, we didn't have to fight in over the blankets like in American hotels!
Personally for me I grew up in Europe and Germany to be exact I grew up having a duvet cover on all my blankets to me it’s warmer and more comfortable I love my duvet cover and here in the United States to this day I still have a duvet cover on my blanket even if it’s a comforter I will put a duvet cover on it LOL

The same thing happened to me once!
Using a down duvet without a cover is gross and will force you to wash more often and ruin it
Cotton / polyester comforter is very different than down duvet
This was a great informative video. I was looking at the bed sheets and covers and the duvet kept rearing its mysterious self and had to ask google what is a duvet. thank you for clearing that up. An actual useful video. Peace. Helped me decide that I will stick with comforters instead.
Finally a simple explanation for something I've not understood for ages. Thank you!!!
Of course! Glad it was helpful.
so... one is a thicc blanket and the other is a thin blanket LMAO
Genuinely appreciate this, this is content I never knew I needed but as a first time mattress buyer…this was helpful
Humans are so needy we need different names and types of blankets
Are you... not... human?
@@thatotherchannel7945 it’s a... joke 😂
So precise and straight to the point. Love it! Thank you.
its weird.. I am 70 years old and I am just now hearing about a duvet.. thanks for the neet video.. you are very good and explaining and get right to the point!
You are welcome!
They all have AC too so they can lay underneath a lot of layers in the summer hahaha
sebbivism yeah I only use a duvet and everyone I know does and I guess i also have a throw that lives on my bed but rarely stays there
Everybody sleeps differently as 1 size does not fit all when it comes to sleep.
Explained clearly. Short, sweet and to the point. Quality video
I’m so mad that after all these years, spending money, and loosing storage space I finally found out about Duvet system.
I like changing the look of my bed regularly but I don’t have the space for another comforter.
Think I’ll just buy the cover and put it over my existing comforter. Why not? 🤷🏽♀️
PumpkinEskobarr smart
Thats what its for haha. I add 2 comforters to my daughters duvet for extra comfy :)
Same thing I do
thank you dad!
It's my pleasure, son.

This helped a lot. So many other videos out there are just to grab quick views. This one actually addressed the differences of the two. Still not sure why people dont just call a comforter a blanket, still baffles my mind.
Never heard of a duvet in my life. I find it so weird that you have two pieces and both are so expensive
Both like 60 bucks!!
Further more, heating the room above 22 Celsius is simply not an option as then we wont be able to sleep.
I think most Americans haven't. I've never seen a duvet in the US.
@@terjeringdalen6298
Comforters sold in the US are very thick.
@@terjeringdalen6298
Lol.
Great video! Currently shopping for bedding and I have these two choices and had no idea what the differences were. Thanks!
No problem!

Dude, I totally know the difference, but as soon as one types "duvet" into Google or Amazon to search for one, the first thing that comes up is "duvet cover." So I'm sittin' there, thinking, "Isn't that oxymoronic?" So I Googled it and found you. Thank you for preaching the truth of these very important terms. ;-)
Haha. People have to know the truth.
@@Mattressclarity TROOFED!
Somehow I never had to wonder about this until age 24. I’m shopping for a comforter and everything online seems to be a “duvet cover”. Haha
Oh my goodness! Thank you so so much for clarifying this information for me because I'm getting ready to buy a comforter set but the one I wanted from the place I wanted it from. I found out it was a duvet and I'm not interested in changing all that stuff out all the time so comforter is the way I need to go and that's what I had originally thought. But thank you so much. You've helped me greatly. Now I can move on and order my comforter set that I want!😊
Glad it was helpful!
I literally bought bedsheets but it said duvet cover and i was like omg great!! I bought it just got home now and it’s a literal cover for your comforter... i thought a duvet cover was bedsheets. I just learned now!!! GREAT 😒
I don’t get it’ duvet cover are bed sheets... like a fitted sheet...
Im just going to say "Thanks" This video needed to exist. No big deal otherwise. Keep doing your dooing.
Thanks, will do!
Duvet covers are so handy and you can get them in many colors and patterns. Easy to wash and put on.

Any comforter can be put in a duvet, and you can multi duvet covers for seasons or different looks and textures. Keeps bedding cleaner especially if you have pets.
I have a comforter and put it into the duvet cover.... you'll get the best of both...
I bought a nice down comforter and then had two flat sheets sewn together to make a duvet. Instead of ties or buttons I had a thin matching colored zipper put on it. Using flat sheets gives you way more color options.
yall as a filipino this is new to me im learning so much lmao
I know blankets and sheets that's about it
It's "Prime Day" and I had no idea what the difference was! Thanks.
Thanks. It was virtually impossible to shop for a new comforter because of these words. It's like they're used interchangeably despite being different things.

I’ve never heard of a comforter before.... must be an American thing lol.
Ben Wilde I’ve never heard of a duvet before...must be a European thing.
@@oh_kay2954 definetly
I just know blanket 😂
@@r0conscious I just know it as "a cover".....😂😂🤦🏽♀️
Ben Wilde a duvet is a comforter just with a pillow case
I don't know about you guys but this made me very excited about Duvets and Comforters
Do you know what a Duvet is?
- Its a Comforter ?
- It’s a blanket. Just a blanket. Now why do guys like you and me know what a duvet is? Is this essential to our survival, in the hunter-gatherer sense of the word? No. What are we then?
- We are consumers.
Alright Tyler
my duvet has hutterite down ...the most comfortable and light but warm duvet in the world..well worth the investment
You will find it depends on where you are from. Here in the uk your comforter is our duvet and we just put duvet covers on...
Interesting!
leah marie yep
A comforter is nothing like a duvet.. comforters are quilted like a giant oven mit...i mean in the sense of thickness.. lol
You can absolutely wash your down comforter, if done right! You need a large capacity front loader, it then needs to be thoroughly dried in the dryer with dryer balls (for at least a couple hours).
This video was super helpful, and wow there really is a channel for everything huh?
Thanks for the help :)
You're welcome! And yes, you can find a channel for pretty much any topic now!
I bought a comforter by mail, but it turned out to be a duvet cover, now I'm here
in the UK we just have Duvets like we buy it and can change the cover whenever we want, I’ve always wondered what a comforter was but I know now ! X
Now I know that I’ve been using a duvet my entire life it was a struggle. Just a year ago I changed to comforter best decision ive made
You learn something new everyday! Lol Thanks! Now I’ll sound like a bedroom pro! 🙌🏽😬☺️😁
No problem!
Easy to understand and appreciate the Clear and concise video!
Glad it was helpful!
What am I missing here? I have a down comforter and two duvet covers to switch between. Kind of a pain get the cover on but better than washing the comforter.
Love duvet because you can easily wash it and save room storing different duvet covers whereas storing different comforters take storage space.
Thanks!
This is the actually most helpful info I’ve found
I love the flat look of a comforter but after spending anywhere between $50-$99 bucks on some nice ones, after I wash them, they lose their fluffyness and aren't as vibrant. Does it seem more sensible to just use duvets?
For ease of washing, probably yes. You could use the comforters you do have as inserts, if they are still good but just look less vibrant.
@@TheCrazyOrange thats what I do. Works well
A comforter is thinner..and quilted throughout the surface...
Thanks for the detailed note, Thomas!
Hey Dawn! It's interesting all the different terms and sleeping styles you see around the world.
Yeah, it's really interesting how different countries set up their beds!
In the beginning "most people know the difference, and if you're here, you probably DON'T know either" lol
that's what I thought he said too, and I thought, "waaaattt?" but I noticed he slurs his speech and trips over his words often throughout, so when I saw your comment I went back and listened again two more times to that first 30 seconds.
I love a little coldness when sleeping...
In Germany, we have a Bettdecke with Bettwäsche on it (what you call a duvet with bedding covers - if I got it right). I didn't know comforters exist. Wow! Mindblowing.
I just washed everything and slipped my comforter in the duvet. I'm tired lol.
No idea why this was in my newsfeed.
Learned something new today. ♥️ UA-cam.
1:31 the comforter is definitely the way to the go. 🙃
Finally. Was wondering like I've never seen a duvet in my life lol
I prefer duvet lol !!! I can change into diff. Sheets .. 😍
I always wondered about the advantages of a duvet. Thank you for clarifying that. I love my conforters.
Finally!!! Thank you!
Haha, no problem!
They're all easy and hard at the same time.... but we can go with all options. Thx for the upload
I hate duvets so much because mine always end up bunched down the bottom of the cover. That shit drives me mad. Comforter squad for sure
You are supposed to tie your insert to the duvet cover
Corner ties?
I didn't know the difference between both until now.. thanks to you. Nice video...good job explaining thanks again.
Excellent! Glad to be of help.
My OCD would be off the hook whiffa Duvet..But Thanks now I know what it is😀😀
I use both, duvet for winter season and comforter for the rest of the year
The way you talk and explain things reminds me of Vince Vaughn😅
Haha he does!
The guy speaks as if he had a train to catch.
very quick and easy to get to the point! great information!
Glad it was helpful!
why can’t I put my down comforter in a duvet cover. I like easy cleaning too.
You can... that's what I do! really easy to clean plus the comforter is a little heavier than a duvet so it won't move inside the cover or clump up randomly
For a hotel luxurious bed look like should use a comforter? and a fluffy king size pillows of course :)
So...I buy a duvet cover...now I have to go buy a comforter...so...let's spend about $450...I mean, it only grows on trees.
Yeah, it can definitely be an investment.
A good duvet and cover costs nowhere near that price. Like a 3rd of that
This guy is dreamy. I like duvets because then I don't have a top sheet getting shoved down to the bottom. Also you can have two duvets on a big bed if two people are sharing. I remember liking this when my sister and I traveled in Europe, we didn't have to fight in over the blankets like in American hotels!
Actually a Comforter and a Duvet are the SAME THING. A Duvet Cover is like a giant pillowcase that covers the duvet or comforter.
I only gave a thumb down because how dare you assume why I watched the video!! Lol 😂.... and then I removed my thumb down because you actually replied!! You sir or madam have won UA-cam! Congratulations 🎉
That is tough but fair.
Thanks for the clarification on the differences between a comforter and duvet..
