He he ! Lois lake when fish farm was in operation rainbows up to 10lbs were a bobber throw away. Fish are still there lots of them but have dispersed in lake since the farm closed tripoloids.
I remember as a kid going along the old highway in around 69 there was little pothole lakes all along it finally harrased dad enough he stopped at one. Visible feeding rainbows right in front of me caught two on a small spinner in bout 20 minutes both about 2 lbs im 68 now would love to find that little stretch of road tried once but new highway has changed it to much to remember exactl where
Just about all of the lakes in this region produce big fish. It just comes down to whether you can access them from shore. With the floating dock, it improves those chances by a lot.
The location of that dock at Irish is fantastic. Good access to deep water. Last time when we were there, I could see fish cruising by in the shallows as well.
Floating docks are great for wheelchair users, but unfortunately the pathway to the dock is not always accessible. It's too bad the Fisheries Society doesn't always take this into consideration. It would be great if you could show the pathway as well to determine things like steepness, width, and terrain. Still an information video. Thanks!
Definitely Vince. Lots of people have brought up concerns on accessibility by wheel chair anglers, so I'm sure this will be taken into consideration a lot more for future dock installations.
This was in September, and yes time of the year does make a difference at these lakes. May and June are excellent. July and August, not so much. September and October are good again.
i'm So Glad to See Jessica And Rodney Back You Two Back in the Video Again Awesome Jessica is Telling People The Place And The Name Of The Lake That is Very Greatful Help it will bring Some Visitors So the Park and The Camp Ground will get Some Business Thank You For Sharing us Your Video i'm From Mission BC 😎😍😚👍👍👌👏👏
Biggest rainbow I ever caught was off a dock (near Kamloops). It was estimated at 14lbs. On a bobber and worm!! I was actually away hunting and had brought an ultralight spinning rod and a few worms hoping to maybe catch dinner one night. It was a male and very coloured, then I caught a hen off the same dock that was around 7lbs. We must have hit a magical time because those 2 days we tried fishing in the afternoon just before the late day hunt and probably caught a dozen real nice fish, rainbows and brookies all off that same 12 feet of dock. I have proof if you want/need to see it ;-)...
Very few options are available here in BC unfortunately. The old Shimano 11'6" Clarus centerpin rod can be considered one and you can just throw a spinning reel on there. The next best option is to have one built from a fly fishing rod blank.
Looks really fun :) Bait fishing can be really nice. My lady and I like to do it in the summer. We just open books or something and have bells that go off if we get a bite.
Yes, you absolutely can catch big fish from a dock. Sometimes it depends on how far you can cast. When I first started fishing, before I had any type of boat, I caught some decent sized fish from both shore and docks.
@@FishingwithRod umm thinking maybe Swan lake and/or Gardom lake? Am staying with son’s family at Coldstream…. But he doesn’t fish... :( Might just do a day trip…. Weather dependent. At end of this week we are house sitting in Vancouver for 4 weeks (will try some lakes near Coquitlam) and then back to Okanagen late June. Happy to just try shore based fishing…. We have a rental car though.
Ah ok. So I'm not sure how much shore fishing is available at both Swan and Gardom Lake because they both don't have a fishing dock. There are more options along the shorelines at Shannon Lake in West Kelowna, and you can catch trout and bass in it. You can also try the shoreline of Wood Lake and Kalamalka Lake where you can catch pikeminnows and whitefish, and even trout from shore. When you're in Vancouver, if you are in a road trip mood, you could drive east to a few lakes in the Fraser Valley that are quite scenic. Hicks Lake at Sasquatch Provincial Park is really nice, but just watch out the last 1km of drive to the lake is on a bumpier gravel road. Cultus Lake is a popular lake for families in Chilliwack, we often go there to catch pikeminnow, cutthroat trout, smallmouth bass from shore. You should take a look at Rice Lake in North Vancouver, it's a nice walk through the forest to the lake. You should also visit the Capilano River Hatchery because right now there are lots of coho salmon returning to it. I got many other suggestions so feel free to ask me whenever you need some. ☺️
@@FishingwithRod Excellent -appreciate the advice. It’s fun to explore. My son’s neighbour kindly took me out today in his boat to Swan Lake. Using a trolling technique at a very slow speed we caught 2 good size Pikeminnow (Sqawfish?) which we tossed back, two good size rainbow trout, dropped two of the same and I particularly enjoyed the scenery and lovely weather. Lucky me ☺️
@@FishingwithRod if ever I visit B.C, I am contacting you for a fishing trip lol. I learned so much from you, I use to struggle hard catching Salmon and Trout, but ever since i saw your vids, I never got skunked again!
Awesome vid Rod as always! Can you share some tips on bottom fishing these lakes? What depth were you fishing to get bites? Moreover how to tell if I’m fishing at the right depth and knowing whether or not your bait is just hanging out within the weeds?
I don't have any particular tip on how to fish the bottom setup really. How deep you should be fishing depends on the time of the year (shallow in early spring, and in the fall. Deeper in late spring, and summer). In the video, we simple cast as far as we could. It's basically fishing blindly. If there are no bites after awhile, most likely you're at the wrong depth so start casting closer or further from the dock.
Paul, with the exception of those higher ones around Lac Le Jeune, most of them are now open around Merritt and Kamloops now. I'll know in a few hours from now lol ...
@@FishingwithRod I have a brother in law who lives on Lac Le Jeune, he lets me know when ice is off, should be soon, usually around the first weekend of May. (Derby Day) He told me this morning that Stake is still iced over. I sent him your video.

Haha, not until after the sturgeon trip in July.
the biggest factor in catching big fish from docks is, as always: do big fish exist in the lake.....
Just about all of the lakes in this region produce big fish. It just comes down to whether you can access them from shore. With the floating dock, it improves those chances by a lot.
I have not done any dock fishing since my childhood. I did see a nice size rainbow reeled from the dock at Irish lake near Lone Butte!🐋
The location of that dock at Irish is fantastic. Good access to deep water. Last time when we were there, I could see fish cruising by in the shallows as well.

@Gord Fulton I have a few seconds of it in one of our episodes actually:

Why do you cast and reel with your right hand? All my spinning rods have the handle so I can reel with my left hand.
It's just a habit which I've been used to in the past 40 years.
Great vid Rod. Some awesome fish were caught ! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Ernie! 🙂

Yep I have a video for that too:

Fish find new structure and cover quickly. The first dock was only 2 weeks on the water and plenty of fish were using it already.
😄👍

Totally fun. I used to do the bell thing as well, many years ago in Australia.
Great video, fun to watch, some chunk Bows! Thanks!

Takes me back to the o'l crappie dock where I caught them through a busted board in the middle of summer heat. Great work, Rod and company.
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out.
Lovely day of fishing....
I wish our water look as clean as that no dirty diapers trash litter the shoreline
Yeah we are really fortunate, and gotta keep taking care of them.
Another good video! Was this filmed last year?
Thanks Mike, yes this was filmed in September. 🙂
Yes, you can. Speaking from experience.
😃
Can’t wait! But no phones at the dinner table and that’s about the same time. I will watch it later.
lol yeah, wife's rule is always no phone at the dinner table, but once awhile I break it...
Cool docks, those were some nice looking fish, nice work.
Thank you!
Yes you can ive caught monster salmons and trout at a dock on a lake
Yep!
OMG! now you want me to call in sick now
Settle down, this was filmed back in last September lol...
Rod, you had me totally fooled!! I thought that big rainbow on the dock at the beginning was yours😝🎣
