Thank you Shan! I used to visit Singapore quite often when growing up as I travelled between Australia and Taiwan all the time. Beautiful part of the world, hopefully I will be able to return one day.
Fishing with Rod Not sure when you were here last but Singapore has changed tremendously...more & more beautiful🌺 It’s become a Smart Nation now with dominance in high technology. Life here is fast-paced; that’s why watching your fishing expeditions allows me to de-stress! Fishing is so SLOW-paced🤣 We certainly would welcome you back...but currently the mandatory 14-day quarantine for all incoming citizens and visitors from overseas is in place. If you plan for a future visit here, drop me a heads up😊.
I forgot to reply to this. Thank you Shan! I would love to visit Singapore again once this pandemic is over. The last time I was there was actually 1992, too long ago!
I love the entertainment and educational aspects that you and Kitty bring to your channels. Thank you! I would have never imagined that trout could be such gluttons for chironomids. Coming up from the Seattle area back in the 80’s on a road trip, I drove up the Coquihalla Highway and remember camping on and fishing this lake but can’t remember the name of it. I caught and released a five pound Rainbow and remember an old timer saying how impressed he was. He had never seen an American release a large trout before. Lol!!! Keep the lines tight, Rod.
Great to see you guys making videos during these pandemic times! I caught my first trout of the season from an urban lake after 2 very slow hours of fishing - I was shaking too! I'm sure it was from being stuck indoors for so long. Nice to see all those recipes, I'm getting bored with my standard salt pepper and dill weed butter pan fry!
Love it! Man those trouts are feeding good! So many in the stomach, Awesome fishing and a nice catch and cook. Two good friends enjoying some good times.
Thanks! That's the amazing feature of our interior lakes. They are highly productive. Just think how many chironomids were actually emerging from the mud bottom if every fish's stomach was like that.
Fishing with Rod can’t wait to go fishing tomorrow and see what’s inside my local lake trout stomachs. What beautiful and healthy trouts you guys caught! Can’t wait for the next video. Thanks for the awesome videos.
That fish did not budge when she first hooked it, it looked like a snag for sure. Both of us were pretty nervous because it was ten minutes into the trip. 😆
Glad we didnt have to change the title from Fishing with Rod, to fishing with Kitty : ) Ive had numerous trips like that friends, family catching all the fish and me nothing. Luck of the draw thats fishing. great video. Fish looks so good. Thxs

Is that a public or private lake? Can you use the trolling motor for trolling or it is illegal? I am asking because I try to understand BC fishing rules. Tight lines.
Hi Dave, lakes stocked by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC are all public, there are very few private/pay-to-fish lakes in this province. All you need to have is a valid freshwater fishing licence to enjoy these fisheries. Motor restrictions vary from lake to lake. Some lakes have no restrictions on motor size, others may have a speed restriction, or electric motor only, while some small lakes do not allow motors at all. If there are restrictions, they can be found under each lake in the freshwater fishing regulations.
You need a fishing licence to fish anywhere (with the exceptions of private lakes). You will not catch mackerel in Vancouver, or anywhere in BC actually. They are only found on the West Coast of Vancouver Island occasionally during years when warmer ocean current brings them to inshore waters.
Rod Niermann I think my wife disagrees 🤣 My cooking knowledge is pretty limited actually, I just research and try recipes out when I crave for new dishes.
Quite a few options. :) Rice Lake, Lafarge Lake, Como Lake, Green Timbers Lake are all close to Vancouver and have good trout fishing. www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/lake.html
Great video rod! Always enjoy them! I was wondering if you would know any other ways to catch them up by merrit with spinning gear maybe worms or something like if I had a boat? Thanks!
Hi Rod! I wanna do lake fishing but I don’t have a boat. Do u know are there any lakes near Vancouver (within 3 hours drive) that offer good fishing and boat rental?

Rod & Kitty, thank you so much for sharing. Love your videos! I have one question: do you guys think gear fishing could achieve the same or very close results as using flies with indicators? Maybe using weighted floats? Thank you!!
Yep! You can use a float fishing setup with the fly and have similar success for sure! I did a tutorial on this: ua-cam.com/video/Mb14nMnIs4Y/v-deo.html
a guy named Fred Noddin is a pro at it here in Alberta, just a small float, a weight a few feet above, and his fave is a prince nymph, make sure it rests horizontal in the water

There are many lakes around Merritt and Kamloops which offer trout fisheries like this. My suggestion is to head over to www.gofishbc.com and do a search for lakes in Region 3, and check out some of our other videos, plus browse through our lake fishing guide at www.fishingwithrod.com.
Another great video guys. Question for you from an interior fisherman- how did you find the trout in regards to any “muddy” taste? That is one deterrent for me from keeping at a number of our smaller land locked lakes around Kamloops. I often used a dry brine and smoke my trout (fillets) with great results.
Thanks! Most of the rainbow trout I've tried have been very good with very little "muddy" taste to them. I had a terrible batch of brookies about 15 years ago at one lake for some reason. I was so excited to eat them but as soon as I took a bite, it tasted like I had stuck my tongue into a bowl of mud... It's very seasonal and regional too for sure. I like to only keep fish from lakes with relatively clear water and early in the season. What I do find have consistently to have a fairly strong "lake" taste is kokanee... I pretty much stop targeting and retaining them in the lakes I have fished, especially that I am lucky enough to have good access to salmon down here.
Great vid guys, I enjoy both parts the fishing and the cooking and I don’t eat much out of the water. Always fun watching the real stuff like the smoke detector and kitty saying wife is going to kill u lmao or the moist that bothers some people hilarious lol glad to see the vids can’t wait for some ocean ones
We were fishing at one of the lakes near Merritt BC. There are dozens of them to choose from in the area and all of them can produce fishing results like this, but it all depends on the weather conditions.
Pai's kitchen brought me here, you seem to be a nice person and for the love of fishing(though i really didnt have the chance to fish) i subs.to you channel. By the way why is it that you released some of the fish caught??
Thank you Cecee! 😄 We sometimes release the fish because there is a limit on how many fish you can keep (and sometimes how big the fish have to be), so those are called mandatary releases. Sometimes, we also just release the fish because we don't really want to keep more even though we are allowed to. At this particular lake, you can keep up to five trout per day per person which is a generous limit, so we usually just keep a couple of fish for ourselves.
Just had a successful day fishing from a canoe for wild brook trout in the Adirondack Mountains. Last year, a male loon stole a fish right out of my hands with his mate on the nest nearby. This year, the same pair of loons nesting in exactly the same place. He hung around the canoe somewhat, but didn’t try any shenanigans this time!
If I did the same thing on Courtney lake Or a lake near there but just dropped a small worm off the side of the boat to the right depth would I catch some?
Bait would certainly work if it is allowed. At lakes like Courtney, there is a bait ban so you'd need to check the regulations before deciding to use worm. With that said, using flies to imitate what these fish are feeding on works way more effectively than using bait in the spring months.
Thanks! We've chosen not to disclose the name of the lake so it does not ruin the experiences for those who visit it. This is a pretty popular lake near Merritt BC. The best way to find this and other lakes is by going to gofishbc.com.
gr8 catch on the trout and awesome dish at the end.it was amazing to see inside the stomach of that trout. pretty amazing how much prey the trout can find seeing how small they were. wat were those things that the trout ate? insect larvae of some sort? hope u guys r safe and sound from the covid
Those are chironomid pupae emerging from the lake mud bottom. These fish have only one job during the day, which is to eat as much as they can. The amount of pupae in the stomach indicates how productive the lake is. 😊

No Highway 24 this year except maybe heading up there to do some film work for gofishbc in July. Next year though! That was a great day at Irish, Richard is awesome! 😃
Fishing with Rod I was there in August visiting family. It was too hot so the fishing wasn’t good. Cut open a stomach and it was empty. I always wanted to go back there in the spring or fall.
Must be a hoot fishing with Kitty, she's got this kid like excitement about her and your Covid hair seems to be coming in nicely, gonna have a nice mullet in no time. Got a legit belly laugh when the smoke alarm went off and Kitty said oh s**t. BTW my wife bakes steelhead from time to time for us and makes a dipping sauce similar to the mayo, dill and brown sugar mix. No sugar in it though and it's delish.
It's pretty close to Merritt. We don't mention the names in these videos not because I don't want others to enjoy it, but because it'd be irresponsible for me to do so. With thousands who are watching this video, we shouldn't be creating a surge of traffic to one specific lake.
Hi Brother Rod And Sister Kitty That is Absolutely Beautiful Fish i Love it i'm From Mission BC What is The Name Of The Lake That you guys Fishing 😎😁👍👍😍😚
I'm not sure but it looks like Lundbom lake I'm from maple ridge and fished that lake with my grandfather and dad when I was a kid I showed the video to my dad and thinks he recognized the landscape.
Came over just to give you the like for your Collab Video with Pailin. When I eventually visit BC I'm definitely going to make a point of fishing and cooking something tasty ^__^
My father used to take me there as a kid. Dont think we ever caught anything. If they let me out of the lower mainland this year maybe I'll take my son and see if we make a better tandem lol
If you have any questions on what to use etc before going, feel free to ask. There is another video of me fishing with my son at this same lake, I think it’s linked at the end of this video so you may want to check that out. Thanks for watching Jeff!
Kitty, next time you get the bone stuck, get a small piece of banana and shallow it. As a kid, we ate a lot of milkfish and they have millions of them and my dad would prepare banana on the side when it happens. haha

Good luck, it’s getting a bit too warm now.
The more, the thicker the fish, is the more you need to let your spices set on the fish to catch the flavors? Marinate in the refrigerator.

I live on the island but there’s some big fish in the lakes around there.
Yep those are rec campsites.
Fishing with Rod I was there in August visiting family. It was too hot so the fishing wasn’t good. Cut open a stomach and it was empty. I always wanted to go back there in the spring or fall.
Awesome!
Thanks!
Thanks for the recipe Steve! Yep we have a lot of fun filming together. :) Thanks for watching!
Oh man that first one looks like it was pulling like the one I had on for a while, haha. That was a great fight Kitty. I'll need to go back out.
Next week... 🤣
@@FishingwithRod Yeah, Monday? hahaha. Wife might not like that though.
Care to share what lake this is? Was fishing Alleyne Lake this weekend and 0 luck...?
It's pretty close to Merritt. We don't mention the names in these videos not because I don't want others to enjoy it, but because it'd be irresponsible for me to do so. With thousands who are watching this video, we shouldn't be creating a surge of traffic to one specific lake.
@@FishingwithRod understandable. Thanks for your response!
@@charlesb3892 Thank You Brother i just Want To Know That's all i Don't go There
LoL...likes and replies to all comments until you ask what lake 🤫
I've already explained why we usually don't disclose the location several times in the comments, at some point it becomes redundant to reply.
jeez !
Jeez?
Kitty slaying the pigs 🐖
🐖🐖🐖
I've been to this lake in the summer, there are big trout in it, though they were not biting
Spring and fall are best. Once water temperature rises in the summer, fish tend to move further into the deep. 🙂
Its wonderfull....
Thanks!
The spruce tips syrup recipe sounds interesting.
It's pretty good... I haven't had a chance to try it with some of the cold drinks she keeps talking about.
IM AT MY ABSOLUTE LIMIT
Meh... 🤷🏻♂️
Came over just to give you the like for your Collab Video with Pailin.
When I eventually visit BC I'm definitely going to make a point of fishing and cooking something tasty ^__^
Thanks! Feel free to ask me questions when you decide to visit and fish here.
Pai sent me...
I love fishing too!
That’s so awesome!! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of the videos. 😊
Do you guys EURO NYMPH up there?, that FISH IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Yes many do it in streams around here. 🙂
Are you Asian Nepalese?
Taiwanese.
Large rainbows, kitty is catching more than you rod. Wow, lots of insects that were in the rainbow trout.
Doesn't matter who catches them, as long they get in my boat everybody is happy. 🙂
come to nz - we throw those ones back as illegal ;P
I’m waiting for invites. 😎
🔥
Thanks for watching!
Jacko??
No.
I’d like to find this lake
I have been fishing with my papa for 8 years and I’m 9 years old and i cot 80 fish in my life
Awesome!
Kitty, next time you get the bone stuck, get a small piece of banana and shallow it. As a kid, we ate a lot of milkfish and they have millions of them and my dad would prepare banana on the side when it happens. haha
When we were little, we used to swallow rice to get rid of the stuck bones. 😊
Pailin's kitchen brought me here.
Thanks! Pai is awesome!
would love to see the same challenge in the Wild.
PS: take a bucket of KFC with you.
SAADALLAH Nawfel haha yes! We will be doing some in the wild eventually. 👍
@@FishingwithRod I like your spirit
